Newbie needs help - Debrand T-Mobile G2 Touch UK - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the site and really like the forums so much information and you all seem to be pretty helpfull. I have a been trying to make sense of it all but getting confused as to what ROM I should use and what version etc. So if I just state what I have and what I want to do below maybe you can help me I have flashed phones before but no HTC's or XDA's lol
Ok so I have a T-Mobile HTC Hero and I want to debrand it and install all the latest generic official software that I can for it, so its effectively fully updated with official software and debranded. I also want to unlock it but I'm aware this cant be done via any flashing methods so I will pay for a service to do that.
I'm going to post some information I got from the phone below and hopefully you guys can give me some links and away I go
Model Number: T-Mobile G2 Touch
Firmware Version: 1.5
Basband Version: 63.18.55.06U_6.35.04.25
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-a5504199
Build Number: 1.76.110.6 146733 CL#47214 release-keys
Software Version: 1.0.0.A6288
I am in the UK too and plan on using an O2 sim later,
Thanks!

You can unlock it, update to the latest 2.1 official firmware then check the sticky with the explenation. Or use goldcard method.
If you're gonna do research atleast do it right.

Moved to Q&A as not development

For future reference, the development section is not the place for Q&As, this post will be moved by one of the mods but please remember for next time.

How do I unlock it? How do update to the latest 2.1 official firmware? Which sticky is that I should check?
Thanks

Ok, yep for the unlock you will need to buy an unlock code.
As for the debrand, I recommend BTDAGs guide linked in my signature.

Ok then thanks mate! Will check it out now

Ok I installed "VillainROM12.0.0-Full-signed.zip" should I upgrade the radio?
Also I still have the "G2 Touch" and "T-Mobile" splash screens when I switch on the phone as well as the "VillainRom" one too.
Can I replace these with the stock HTC Hero ones?
Is there a zipped official HTC Hero rom I can install instead of the Villain one?
Thanks

[Q] Legend Vodafone AUS Downgrade

Hello all
Had a crack at trying to root my legend about 4 months ago. Got stuck at crackin.bat and gave up.
But I think it's time. I've got Froyo 2.2 with HBOOT 1.01, are there some specific instructions for my device that won't confuse me
And I love HTC Sense too much to go with plain Cyanogenmod, is there any ICS based roms with sense? Something like how the HTC One V looks?
in the meantime htc has provided an official way to unlock the legend's bootloader - you can just follow the instructions here: http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ or have a lokk into the corresponding forum thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498298
the development of ics for our legend is still in the early stages, so at the moment you certainly won't find a rom which bundles ics & sense. however in the development section there are gingerbread based roms, that come with sense...

There are quite a few ways to roots your legend now since Boot unlocker has been released for the Legend.
1. Downgrade and etc.: Never used this method but it was the first guide I read and it confused the heck out of me.
2. HBOOT 1.01 root: The way I used to unlock my HTC Legend very easy and comprehensive guide in this forum, CHECK IT OUT HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223950
3. HBOOT unlocker (Haven't used this guide before)
From the title of your thread I sense that you had trouble downgrading. No problems! Just use the 2nd or 3rd method listed above, the first guide was only used because the Legend still had eclair and the 2nd or 3rd method wasn;t released yet.
ICS rom is still in Beta version but can be used (Nearly fully functioning ). Check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562595
Best of luck!

Many of the links to the required programs/files in that guide no longer work.
I pretty much rooted mine the way it's described in the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596635
Look in the Legend Android Development for ROM's with Sense
If you need further help, don't hesitate to ask
Yeah, just use the boot unlocker method since its the newest method.

Wow that's exciting. Didn't know that HTC released their own method.
I go to the site and click Begin Unlocking Bootloader but nothing happens
Have you made/signed into a HTCDev account?

I used ogo2's gingerbread rom for quite a while, never saw that issue. If you look through the thread in the dev section for the rom, I have seen others with this issue too, but I don't know the cause or solution.

[Q] Advice on installing ARHD.

So basically I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Android rooting and flashing etc. I've managed to successfully root my One X+ using Hasoon2000's awesome toolkit and I used the CWM International, I have SuperSU running fine. Now I've done that I would like to install the Android Revolution HD ROM.
Carrier: O2
CID: 02___001 (That is with 3 underscores)
Software Version: 1.17.206.1
HTC Sense: 4+, Android 4.1.1
HBOOT: 1.35
Kernel: 3.1.10
Baseband: 3.1204.168.32
No idea if all this is relevant but I thought I'd better give it.
Is my phone compatible first of all, and also any advice or links to guides on how to do it or what to do to prepare. I was particularly curious about my CID having 3 underscores when almost all other CID's I could find reference to only has 2 underscores?
Finally I'd quite like to know about anything cool or interesting I can do at this point or while installing the ROM, I'd heard about custom boot-up animations or something like that?
Boot animations are just .zips stored in system/media or system/customize/resource. Make sure the resolution and screen size is the same as the phone. All boot animations in One X and X+ section will work for a fact.
I have no idea about the underscore thing. But if your phone works then I guess all is good. Post in the rom's thread if you are worried.

I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news are; though you say you're a noob, atleast you paid attention to the CID-number
The bad news are; since we're not S-OFF yet, you can't change the CID-number, hence you can't flash the ARHD rom untill O2 comes out with an updated firmware package.

At the moment the CID is irrelevant because it's only needed to flash the firmware package which isn't needed to flash the ROM. So you can flash ARHD just not the firmware package.

Actually i think the point he is making is, 02 are yet to release an official rom containing the latest hboot version. People with lower hboot versions are having issues with custom roms based on the latest software update. So alot of devs have advised that people with the lower hboot versions to update hboot before flashing.

He has 1.17 firmware and 1.35 hboot, is it there any newer? I was running bindroid beta prior release on 1.14, 1.16, 1.17 without any glitch or problem, so I dont see any problem to flash arhd or any custom rom

Installing Android Revolution HD ROM

I have a new HTC One X+ for about two weeks now and I´m planning to install the Android Revolution HD ROM, but I have some questions.
Using the HTC One X+ All-In-One Toolkit, I think I´m not going to have problems unlocking and rooting it.
But I have questions about flashing the ROM.
In the Android Revolution HD thread, one of the requirements is a firmware package which is available for download. But then in the instructions there isn´t any reference to it, so I don´t know if I have to download it and neither how to use it.
I have HBoot 1.30.0000, CID is HTC__622 and firmware version 11.14.708.16.
You should post on the thread you would get help quicker than on here.

I can´t, because I don´t have enough posts.
Question about firmware is quite clear, you can't use it, it is for x.xx.401.x aka wwe English, compare your cid with posted there, you are able to flash arhd Rom on your hox+

I know I can´t update the firmware due to my CID.
The problem is I read two people in the ARHD thread saying you can install the ROM with hboot 1.30 and one saying you can´t. But all the answers were before the 6.3 version was released, so I don´t know if I can install it.
you can. test it.

Thank you very much. It worked.
Some advice for the people doing it for the first time like me...
I followed the following thread for unlocking: [HOW TO] Unlock bootloader, Root, Flash Custom ROM, Flash Kernel
I did every step from the Post 1. When you use the toolkit, remember to close the command window or nothing will happen if you click on the next item.
I used CWM TOUCH v6.0.2.7 for recovery.
Then, instead of following the instructions on the Post 2, I followed the instructions in the ARHD thread. In the boot imagine folder there is a Readme file. Follow those instructions to install the ROM. You can use the toolkit to do some of the steps.
And in case your phone gets stuck in the boot animation after installing the ROM, press Power + Volume Up to reboot and you will be fine.

[Q] Can someone explain firmware for me?

I am pretty much lost when it comes to the firmware of the htc one. First i'll explain what I think I have grasped and what I have done. I am running ARHD 11.0 (thinking about 11.5, but cant decide if i want to wait for the next w/o the LTE bug). Running CWM 6.0.3.2. Last night installed a new radio .zip (baseband?). NO S-OFF and hboot 1.44 (i think).
Now the firmware gets a little fuzzy for me. Im getting the vibe that it is not mandatory, but could potentially be beneficial. How do i check my firmware? Is it include with custom rom updates? Should I upgrade it? And do i need to upgrade hboot or be S-OFF to do any of this.
Thank you in advance and especially to all the great developers out there.
I'd say to start off go check out mike1986's post in the international section and read around and if you have more questions then come back here

[Q] [S-On][Unbranded]Firmware Question

Hey Guys,
I have an unbranded HTC Amaze(Asian Version), s-on and rooted, recently I tried to flash Cyanogenmod 10 on it using 4ext, it flashed fine, but after starting, it kept hanging and rebooting, so I researched a bit and found out that my firmware is still the old gingerbread one, and to upgrade it I would have to turn s-off first.
However, I found a stock T-mobile Gingerbread ROM ,and flashed it its working fine now, and the it also allows me to update the system to ICS officially using the update available.
But my question is that if I update my android officially using the ICS update available, would it update my kernel as well? So I may be able to flash custom ICS roms on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thnx
Yes, it'll upgrade the software, kernel, and radio. But it's not recommended to do.
There's a link to the guide to upgrade the Asian amaze in the OP of the viper thread.
Follow the guide and read it thoroughly first.
Afaik you should use the guide and it'll then you'll be good!
