[IDEA] lock button functions. - Nexus One Android Development

Hopefully this is the right thread, if not I apologize...
Anyway, I think it would be cool to be able to give the lock button more functionality such as being able to set an app to open up when you short hold it and have power off and reboot to appear on a long press. Or even set an app to open on a single press and have it lock on a long hold. Just an idea but it would feel comfortable to me to be able to get to my mms this way =]

[Q] Remap power key to launch CRT shutdown app

Need help remapping power key. Someone made awesome app called screen off & lock that does crt shutdown. It would be epic if we could remap power key to launch app.
whoa awesome i just downloaded it. the power button remapping would be awesome, but the long press search button isn't half bad. that's what i'm doing now.

I use voice search all the time. I would think the coding couldn't be to hard but I don't know where to look. It would be awesome if anybody could get this to work.
yeah i'm sure a lot of people use the search button, for some reason i never really need it.
with the camera hack that allows photos to be taken with the power button, and while watching videos, the power button locks the screen while keeping it on, so i know there's gotta be a way to get it to launch this activity. i just don't have any experience with this kind of stuff.
edit -
saw an app called galaxy tuner that apparently remaps buttons, but i am unable to mess with my phone while at work. give it a shot maybe?

App to use nook button like iphone home button?

Hi,
I love my Nook Tablet, and have rooted it using Indirect's method, and have added the SystemUI.apk published by revcompgeek.
However, I'm not quite where I want to be...I am really hoping for some tweaks or app(s) that will make my "n" button truly act like the home button in Button Savior, or the home button on my iphone - I want to double-click or long-click on it and get a list of running apps, with the option to switch to another one directly or to close one or more.
Does anyone know how I can do that?
Thanks,
ST
natively no possible, apps will do

Look for Multitasking Lite on the market. You can get a running list of appear by single press, double press, or by search button.

Multitaking Lite did the trick! I also tried TaskXP and that does the trick as well. My problem with them is I didn't realize I needed them to catch the home page button press. Now that I figured that out everything's working the way I want.
Thanks for everyone's help, this noob appreciates it!

Thanks for the info, just downloaded taskXP

Does anyone know of a multitasker that actually catches a home button hold rather than a double or single press? I want a single press to go home and dislike the delay that setting the multitasker to double press introduces.

You can disable the double tap function in TaskXP and have the multitasker popup on one click. I tried it on mine and it works.

Yeah, that doesn't quite solve my problem unfortunately, thanks though. I've gotten used to the single click for home, hold for MRU from other devices and was hoping to find something that would make this the same. I guess that's probably unlikely though since that's default android behavior and the whole purpose of these apps is to change it.

Eliminate Capcative Hardware buttons

I use the S Pen a lot. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate the back, home and settings button into my launcher (ADW)
The same way ICS does it basically to eliminate the need for the Capcative buttons.
Does anyone know of an app or way to put those shortcuts on your home screen? Its really annoying when using the S Pen to have to always go back to those buttons.

You know you can use the s pen right?
Press pen button while swiping back to go back
Press button up and swipe up to open menu
Press button and swipe down to go home
Samsung has all these tips in the phone
Menu.settings.spen
There is also a s pen tips app in the market...and lots of cool stuff on the facebook page.
If that doesnt work out for you there are a few apps on the maeket for "soft buttons"

You can use the S-Pen for going back, home, and menu. Hold the button and drag left for back, Button+down for home and button+up for menu.

Shutdown/Reset button for Android 4.3

Hi,
Can anybody know about how to add reset/shutdown button into notification panel or button on Home screen for samsung galaxy note 3?
I have searched around the phone but couldn't see that function.
THANKS.
JACK
I don't know about an on-screen widget, but simply holding the power button for 3 seconds will result in those buttons popping up.
as per I know I have not seen any such on screen widget..so all you need to do simply hold the power button for 2-3 seconds and you will get the pop up of shutdown and reset...but still if you get to know about some on screen widget then just do let me know..would be happy to know about anything like this...and will be going to implement for sure......
If your rooted you can use an app called quick boot. I'm not sure if this is what your looking for.

Taking a screenshot. Both methods I know doesn't work...

So the first is the usual Power/Volume Down. It doesn't work. It keeps bringing up the Shutdown Menu.
The second is the Palm Swipe. It works, but it captures the screen of the Multiwindow app tray.
Anyone else having issues? Wish there was an option to take a screen shot using the spen.
I hate that Samsung has overridden the usual way of taking screenshots using the power/vol buttons and there is no way I've found to re-enable it. That said, I don't have an issue with taking screenshots using the palm swipe. I think it's cumbersome and yes, you have to get it "just right" but it works for me on my tablet.
You can swipe from the left or the right to get a screenshot. Have you tried from the left so you avoid bringing up the multiwindow app tray?

I can press power and volume down to take screenshots on my S6.

I have no problems using Volume Down and Power to take a screenshot.
Also, you could take a screenshot with the S-Pen by setting it to open Screen Write when you long press the button. You'd simply need to tap save without editing anything.

Thanks for your inputs. It's really odd that the power/volume doesn't work for me. The palm swipe from left works...unfortunately...i have palms with very high traction, lol...so it's very cumbersome. The screen write function is probably what's going to be the easiest for me. :good:
How odd. I've tried every thing I can think of using power and volume down (and up) and get no screenshot. All I get is the power off screen.
It's been very annoying for me because trying to swipe to get a screenshot is a test of my patience. I usually end up swiping and moving around what I wanted a shot of.

Perhaps you're pressing them too long? You just need to tap both at the same time, do not hold them. For me, if I hold them, I get the power options, but simply tapping them takes a screenshot.
Also, which build are you using?
Oh jeeze! It worked. Quickly tapping the buttons is the trick! Wow, never knew. Every other Android device I've owned required pressing and holding the buttons for a screenshot. Leave it to Samsung to be different...
Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, my Tab S was hold iirc. Maybe Samsung changed it this time because it's no longer the power button, it can now activate Bixby - Perhaps their testing proved it to be awkward with Bixby if you hold.
Anyway, glad I could help.

I believe they changed the hold time to a quick simultaneous press due to the newer Samsung phones (ie Note 10) using hold power button to bring up Bixby by default. Probably caused an issue by calling up Bixby when attempting to take a screenshot? Not sure, but it seems to make sense based on when this was changed.
