[Q] Can we force front camera - Streak 5 Android Development

Is there a way to force front camera.
I tried echo'ing to a few things that looked relevant in /sys, and did succeed in (temporarily) breaking the camera, but I could not force a switch.
Can we use the 'am' command to force a camera setting? perhaps by calling/changing an intent in the camera app, or the particular chat/voip app we are using?
If we can force the camera to switch, perhaps by using the normal app switcher, we can switch to a running app, and have the camera remain switched.
This would be a temporary work around for apps that don't currently have a switch option

Why don't switching the active camera by using the menu button?

It is possible because fring can do it.
Saying that, i have absolutely no idea how it's done. I'll have a look and see what i can find.

sipdroid claims to be able to switch cameras (at least on the EVO), but it does not seem to work in the Streak.
You can get the sipdroid code here:
http://code.google.com/p/sipdroid/
But my question is can we force a switch after an app has opened the camera, thus allowing use of the front camera in any app, whether it supports it or not.?

Camera app crashed, retrieve temp/cache files?

Was taking a video with the camera app supplied with CM7 ZMOD and while I was shooting I pressed the change white balance button and the camera app crashed, asking me to force close or wait, I hit force close and went back into the app.
Turns out I lost the 8mins of footage. Would it be possible to retrieve this footage from a cache folder somewhere?
It's probably possible to get the data but that rom uses hardware video encoding and would most likely be unusable because the encoding never completed.
fair enough then, thanks.

[Q] Alternative camera apps freezing on stock GB ROM

So I'm a big fan of all the alternatives like Camera360 and Vignette, but somehow when GB came along, everytime I install one the app is able to run until you actually try and shoot a photo. Whether its focusing or shooting, hard button or screen tappin, the application freezes and the phone says 'camera not available' when you try it with the stock camera app. Theonly way I found effective out of it is a restart.
Is this normal? I have tried reinstalling the stock camera app but the phone won't allow me to.
Its as if the X10 gets jealous of the camera alternative and shuts down the hardware altogether.

[Q] camera sometimes freeze

Hi folks,
I have a haipad i9300 mtk 6577 4 days ago the camera start to make trouble. Sometime just show black screen and after ask for a force close.
I tried to delete the old camera apk and installa brand new...I give to JB 4.2 camera a try to see if it works...nothing still the same. Black screen and after several touch ask for a force close. I guess is not an hardware problem because sometimes it works...what can I do?
I notice if I press several time and I force close then the camera app cannot connect to camera. This happen 4 or 5 times...then if I am very lucky the camera rebirth and start working again...It seems there is a kind of problem between the app camera and the camera hardware...because every camera app have the same issue, so maybe the problema is after...maybe some libs or something like that...any idea?
Odd update...I have a torchlight app with its widget. I notice the torchlight has the same issues of the camera. In fact it freezes and often I need to force close. The strange thing is if you turn on or turn off after few timers you can heard a kind of "click"...the same click you heard when you activate the camera...after that if you turn on the camera it is working. So I guess the torchlight and the camera are linked in some way. Of course I try to unistall the torchlight app...nothing the camera still not working.
Any ideas?
I'm not expect ,but
if something using start using camera (for example torch widget app) then other program cannot access to camera,so if program was not design for that case it will crash. (I know this as When I writing my app i spotted the same problem as You. ).
So i guess something using camera and that cause your problems.Try to find how many programs/services use camera and close all of them and then check/
That's my thought...in fact I'm pretty sure something is bothering the camera app...but...I did an hard reset, so a clean system, but the camera still freeze so I assume is not an application I installed. How can I check which application is accessing the camera?

[Help] Pixel 3 Camera Bug (NOT related to saving/gallery)

As of yesterday afternoon, I can no longer get my camera to open/work in any app.
Native App - Nope
Messanger - Nope
WhatsApp - Nope
Snapchat - Nope
Filmic Pro - Nope
All apps that I can use the camera in it loads a black screen and nothing shows up. Example: Load native camera app, it shows the shutter button, options, video, etc...but no picture. If I try to flip to the selfie camera I get the same thing.
When I restart the phone, the camera works in the native camera app. But if I open Snap, Messanger, etc...the camera stops working. When I go back to the native app the camera no longer works either.
I've rolled back the updates, factory reset the phone (twice), and removed 3rd party camera apps.
If I use JUST the native camera app after I restart the phone, the camera works just fine. The second I try to open the camera within the Messanger app, it fails again and I have to restart the device.
My Pixel 3 is not modified in any way.
I spent a 1.5hrs on the phone with Google Support and their answer was to RMA the phone. Which, 1, doesn't make any sense. This seems to be software related. 2, I leave for a trip Monday and the new phone wouldn't be here in time and they won't ship it to my hotel.
I'm hoping this is something that can be sorted out with an update. But would like some input on other possible causes or solutions.

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.

Camera error, Camera unavailable error.

Hi,
I am using LG V30+ (LG-H930DS) past one year. For past two months, my default camera app stopped working. I have tried with restarting the mobile, clearing the data and cache, force stopped the app also. Nothing works. I am receiving the following error
"Camera Error;Camera unavailable"
Also in other camera applications the selfie cam is not opening. If I select the change camera option to take photo in front camera, its redirecting again to rear camera. I am unable to open the camera through applications like WhatsApp also. Even face detection is not working.
I haven't dropped my mobile or damaged by any other means like water also.
So can anyone of the members in our forum could help to rectify this error?
My mobile IS currently running in May 1 2019 security patch. Software version is V20f-IND-XX.

1) Perhaps there's a conflict:
"Camera Error;Camera unavailable"
"Also in other camera applications the selfie cam is not opening".
That first error usually means something else is using the camera. Uninstall the other camera applications to test. You can always re-install later.
Back when I had Moto Maxx XT1225 and custom ROM, I ended up with two Galleries and my camera would crash when I tried to use it. I ended up having to freeze one of the Galleries in Titanium Backup.
If you have multiple camera apps, it's possible one of them is always running in the background or something which prevents the others from using the camera. Just a suggestion to uninstall them, temporarily go back to stock LG camera only and see if that solves the issue. Then you can add them back one by one, rebooting in between, see if there's a conflict again (if that's the reason).

2) Yeah, could be hardware failure. In one instance, someone's selfie camera was not working -- wouldn't open. But turns out the problem was actually the rear camera. They had to REPLACE THE REAR CAMERA and then the selfie camera worked. The rear camera was faulty and wouldn't switch to the selfie camera.
This camera error, camera unavailable just happened to me. This is the 2nd time its happened and rhe first time i had to do a complete factory reset to restore my camera function....i didnt know what caused it then but it happened again and I think I know what may have caused it.
So this time just like last time I had my SD card filled with photos mounted and taking photos with this new phone created a 2nd "camera" folder.
I moved all the photos out of that folder into my existing SD card "camera" named folder and this inadvertently deleted my newly created LG "camera" folder...
I noticed my next time I went to take a pic I got the error....im thinking its related? Any weight to that? How do it restore or create that folder again...? To check before im forced to factor restore again??
Thank you!
