[Q] [Req] XBOX Controller App - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was playing games on my emulators on my Vibrant and it got me thinking... what if i could use my phone on my Xbox instead of a controller? Could you make an app that you could use to play? Since you can already use wireless controllers, it'd just be about emitting the right signal from the phone and you could use the touch pad in place of buttons.
Genius I know...

Microsoft uses a proprietary wireless standard on their xbox 360 control interface.

The Xbox controller most likely used IR which no phone has. If anything you could use this phone as a PS3 controller since it uses bluetooth.
I don't always complain, but when I do, I #BlameWes

That would be nice but I also think it uses infrared.
Good idea though

Here's a video of the N900 controlling the PS3 via Bluetooth. I don't think an app like this exists for Android.

The controllers work off a 2.4GHz radio signal, not IR.
ConceptVBS is right, the protocol is proprietary and unpublished. They won't even license it to other manufacturers or developers. (My wife is into robotics and on Trossen forums somebody was trying to figure out how to make this work, but there is just too much back-and-forth between the console and the controller for the initial registration.)
I suppose in theory somebody could write a driver and hijack the wifi radio -- but without the information on the protocol, you have about as much hope as using your microwave oven to control your 360.

wow this thread is old. but I was just thinking the same thing.
this thread has xbox controller enabled rom available for the Elocity A7 running android 2.2. question is, can anyone else do this for a vibrant?? I'm sure there would be quite a few ppl, including myself, willing to donate towards a product like that!
boo yeahhh! vibrant with a wireless xbox controller would be soooo siiickkkk

Game Controllers

I read a glut of reviews when they were posted last night so forgive me for not remembering which one mentioned this, but..
I thought I read somewhere that the tablet will have native support for Xbox 360 controllers (with wireless adapter--though I believe HC already supports this) and wireless PS3 support, as in they added drivers to support them.
Has anyone else heard this? That would be amazing if PS3 controllers started working without having to open an app every time you wanted to use it and then disable it when you were done.

The current transformer supports this as well. The problem is app support. There's an app on the market that does really well with the xbox 360 controller, and will even map the analog nubs to buttons. It has worked the best in the emulators that I used it with.
https ://market.android.com/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoy
Ps3 works you just have to configure the controller on a pc first!

As far as I've understood, you've always had to use apps like these to get it to work. I think what I read was that the Prime will have native support, so I am assuming all you would do is turn on bluetooth and then the tablet & the controller would automatically pair together.
Don't get me wrong, I plan to use the hell out of a controller on this thing--I'm not complaining. It would just be awesome if every time I didn't have to launch a separate app before I launch the actual game/emulator.
Video I saw last night said that TF Prime supports game controllers right out of the box.
Video @ 6:15 talks about Game Controller
I don't know why reviewer used USB BT to TF keyboard base. I'd think you could go direct to tablet BT.
Look forward to hearing full answer to this question though.

Yes, like I said, the problem is app support. The game shown in the video apparently supports game pads with analog sticks. A lot of games, however, do not. So, if you want to use analog sticks in a game that does not recognize them, you will probably need to do something like what I had posted before so that you can re-map those to keyboard buttons.
Bluetooth Controler
This is my first post on the xda-developers forum.
Your are missing out on a GREAT Bluetooth controller for the Prime.
This is my first Android tablet so I hope my idea of a perfect portable gaming machine works!
Here is the dual analog controller I found. Check out phonejoy-net as a new member I am not able to post links.
This software (Bluez IME) for 4 bluetooth controllers in the Market.
Now I am not sure that this will work on the Asus Prime? Any recommendations?

Eh, I've got enough game pads, and if OnLive ever launches, I'll probably pick up their controller as well. I've got 4 xbox 360 controllers and an iControlPad. All of them work with my current transformer.
I preordered from Gamestop and they include a bluetooth game controller.

I was going to order that two because of the bundled games, but they didn't specify which color they were selling. I want/ordered champagne gold and I assumed they were shipping amethyst gray.
Re: Game Controllers.
Am I reading this thread correctly, that you can use some kindof software to use a blue tooth game controller on " any game " after I go through some kindof controller button programming.
OR
are Game Controllers only for " games designed to work with game controllers".
Thanks

Unfortunately, it's for the latter. On the plus side, I expect the vast majority of Tegra Zone games to support controllers, if only because nvidia seems to be advertising that feature hard. Can't wait to try that shadowgun game!

Any game that allows for keyboard input, you can map to gamepad controls with the use of another app. For apps that directly support gamepads, you just need to tell it to use the gamepad input.
I've read all the thread.... but I can't find my anwser
(beleive it or not) I have no controller pad at home. My Prime being pre-ordered, what pad would you recommand me to buy ?
Xbox ?
Ps3 ?
Wireless ? (If i could keep my dock's usb port free while emulating or gaming, it would be great...)
What is the must-have ?
(thx !!)
So did anyone tried with xbox360 gamepad ? is it working ? what do I need to get to be able to use xbox360 gamepad ?
One of the pre-release reviews I've watched on Youtube, was demoing the gamepad.
Asus sent out the Logitech F710 with his Prime.
The reviewer plugged the Logitech dongle into the TF keyboard USB port, and was plug and go.
How about the wii controller? I haven't used any controllers for my a500, but I want to for my Prime. I have all 3 controllers, I just figured the wii was more "portable".
NVM. watched after I wrote. supports all 3. niiiiiice
I want to know if a 360 controller works. Possibly with the USB dongle Microsoft sells for the PC?

This should help
Gamers can then play the game with an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 controller. By the end of 2011, about 40 games that take advantage of the Tegra 3's advanced features will be available.

You'd need a USB adapter for tablet, or the keyboard base to plug in any USB dongle though, a few I've seen are WIFI dongles.
PS III looks to have a Bluetooth Version that should probably work. I would look for an actual confirmation before buying one on that basis.
Does anyone know if the prime will let you connect more than one Bluetooth device at a time? I would like to use a PS3/Phonejoy controller along with my Bluetooth headphones.

[Q] Tablet S as PS3 controller?

With the Tablet S now being successfully rooted (hurrah, and much kudos to djrbliss!) does this now open up the possibility of using the Tablet S as a bluetooth controller for the PS3?
One of the main uses of my Tablet S is as a universal IR remote control, but it's still not capable of controlling the PS3 (as a Blu-Ray or media centre) which is a shame. With root achieved, will that open up the possibility of having the Tablet S paired to the PS3 as a controller? That would be sweet ...
Ta,
Jon
Phew! lol
From that title I thought you wanted to be able to play PS3 games with a massive on screen controller on your tab. That would be a little too crazy for my liking haha.
Anyways, my tablet already works as a remote for my PS3...but there is a catch.
I have a fairly new Wifi Sony 3DTV that has HDMI control. It just lets you control attached HDMI devices with the TV remote as long as the attached HDMI device is compatible with that feature.
I don't think the HDMI control feature is new at all tho. It's worth checking the settings for your TV and PS3 and seeing if you can just set both devices to "ON" for this. It's a really sweet feature! I can even turn my PS3 on and of with the tablet S this way too.
Thanks for the hint - I'll have to check into that when I'm at home tonight. The TV is 'fairly' new - Philips bought about 3-4 years ago, so it may work for me. Fingers crossed.
A super-size PS3 controller to play games via the Tablet S would be a bit weird Some kind of remote view/mirror would be pretty awesome though.
Many games are not suited to a keyboard/mouse setup. A solution to this problem is to use your PS3 controller as a joystick for PC games.
Blueput Droid may help. I never got it working on my rooted Nexus One, but maybe it'll work on the Tablet S. I'm sure it's been updated since i last tried it too. I haven't rooted my tablet yet so I can't try it.
https://market.android.com/details?id=berserker.android.apps.blueputdroid
I can confirm that BluePutDroid does work on my Tablet S. It took a couple of pairing attempts to complete, but it does seem to control the PS3. The 'X' and 'O' of the virtual sixaxis are mixed up though, and it does seem like a bit of a faff to get to the control section.
Overall though, a good start. A whinge to Sony would be that it is now demonstrated this can work, so why don't they add the functionality to their remote app? It seems like a no-brainer to me...

Working controller?

I'm looking for a controller to use with my att
note. What are my options? I used to use the Wii mote with classic controller on my old iPad. It didn't work the same here. I see these female usb adapters do they work using a ps3 and or xbox controller? They all say Android 3.0 or higher. Or how bout the Gamestop wireless controller. I have all the consoles so i rather use a controller i already have if possible. Btw I'm looking to play gta3 and emulators snes nes gba.

Well i read wii mote doesn't work with touchwiz our something. i just figured there had to be someone who has had some progress. I don't wanna be buying things if it doesn't work right now. They all say honeycomb 3.0 our higher for usb host.

I've seen it work, but that has always been on custom ROMs, not sure if the use of a wiimote is restricted to custom ROMs due to proper BT drivers being cooked into them or not. I never really had any desire to try it, but you're making me curious now as I have a Wii with all the toys and add ons that no one touches anymore.
Well there isn't many roms yet. I did try saurom with the wiimote and it wouldn't fully sync. The remote was found but kept blinking and just shut off. Is there a usb host on the g note? Does the female adapter work. Cause i have seen the gs2 with that working on stock ROM and this phone isn't far from that. It would be awesome to use the xbox wireless receiver.

Have you tried Bluez IME?
I had wonderful luck with that, but then again I was running CM7. It becomes a keyboard input, and the android thinks you have a bluetooth keyboard.
Give that a shot.
I no longer have a wii to try it out on :/
Im using sixaxis to connect to a ps3 controller with bluetooth.
Running stock rooted.
Edit-to connect the ps3 controller you need the sixaxis app and you need to go to their website and get software for your windows pc(you will also need ps3 controller drivers), then connect the controller to your pc and use the software to edit the mac address to our phones bluetooth, the sixaxis app will show what your mac is.
They may have the same software for linux or macs, I do not remember.

Is it wireless? That'd be pretty funky to have to hook your ps3 controller into a pc in order to play on your phone.
I suggest a 6ft. Mini-USB cable attached to your laptop pc with a USB extension cable and placed on your favorite coffee table or flat surface. Add to that the HDMI cable for the note, and you have a pretty cool setup. Would it be practical? No. But would you earn major geek cred points?
You betcha.
Wait this is only to set it up at first right? After that i can use the ps3 controller at will? Without the pc.

On the atrix I could use the Wiimote perfectly fine. Unfortunately I believe it's a problem with newer galaxy s phones. I tried almost every app but no go so far.

Ok so the ps3 controller works flawlessly.wiimote won't work with touch wiz devices on stock ROM. Bluez ime don't work as far as i know unless i just don't have a supported controller. I couldn't get it to sync anything but for the ps3 remote just download sixaxis from the play store and the sixaxis pair tool from dancing pixels website on pc and connect the controller through usb cable, change the Bluetooth mac address on the controller and it will sync right up. This works for all games and emulators with on screen touch pads. I can now play all n64 snes nes games with a ps3 controller and gta3 sonic cd reckless racing all work amazing. Its the most useful controller app I've seen yet. Best part combine this with mhl hdmi out and you have a portable console in your pocket. Still haven't figured out multi player though.

[Q] Using Xbox 360 Controller on Photon?

Did some searching around the forums and couldn't find a clear answer - is there any way to use an xbox 360 controller with my photon? Seemed like it might be possible using the HD dock (I realllly want to play gta using an xbox controller). Can anyone confirm or deny?
I somehow made mine work, was a hell of a process though. Ended up finding an app on my phone that would sync to my computer via wifi and see my controllers(plugged into my comp) signals and send them to the Photon. Cant recall name of app off top of head though..

Which version of Android are you using? I seem to remember one of the big features of ICS was native USB device support, so I'm curious if you still need third party apps for gamepads. I'd really like to see if I could use HDMI out and a 360 controller to turn my phone into a full fledged console.

Yeah forgot about that, I was on Cybiks CM7 at the time. On CM9 but haven't messed with trying it out on here since CM9
One guy in here bought the HD dock, and he said a generic controller from Radio Shack worked, but he didn't say about a 360 controller. I know that with the sixaxis app, you can use a PS3 controller, and it's amazing. What's cool about it is that it not only can play games like GTA and Shadowgun, which are designed to take physical keyboard inputs, but it can emulate screen touches. So you can play pretty much any game if you are willing to set up the touch profiles. Modern Combat 3 looks pretty good on my big screen, and game play is smooth once you get the controls you want.
I dropped the $50 on a PS3 controller just because I wanted to use it on my phone, I don't even own a PS3.

I have heard the Wiimote (Nintendo Wii remote) works as well. The common denominator here, with the PS3 Sixaxis controller, is Bluetooth, which our phones support (pretty much all of them do). The Xbox 360 controller uses another kind of wireless, or USB as a peripheral, and phone support for that (without the dock) is far less. I'm considering getting a PS3 controller as well. Screen controls are okay for some emulated games. I beat Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA) on my phone, but I tried a couple Mario games and it was laughably bad.
(Running an Electrify, BTW... should be the same minus 4G.)

using xbox controller on rezound question

I did search but found older posts on ps3 controllers being compatible. Can I use an xbox controller on my rezound if rooted? If so what do I need to download and how? Thanks!
I could be wrong but I don't think it's possible.. Microsoft uses a different kind of wireless technology to connect their controlers.. not Bluetooth and not WiFi.. that being said I believe Microsoft keeps their wireless patent under lock and key. Would be awesome tho cuz I have neither a Wii or a ps3..

Famouscollin is correct; can't be used on the Rez, or any phone, unless your phone has an RF (besides bluetooth) receiver.
It is a form of Bluetooth, but can't transfer as much data as Bluetooth and doesn't use the same setup methods as Bluetooth.

apparently the Nexus 7 is compatible with the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq3tWODIm6g . so if you have a nexus 7, you can use the 360 controller.
Ok so in theory it could work but there are some requirements that are most likely impossible to meet but if you want to work at it you might be able to do it. If you can get a micro usb to standard usb adapter and get one of those wireless receivers for PC then you'd need to somehow get drivers to work with it which is pretty unlikely but perhaps it's possible. So while in theory it could be done it's not really practical, sorry.
