[Q] Sorting "Sent Items" folder in Outlook - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While it seems logical to sort the Sent Items folder in Outlook by addressee of the emails I send, when trying to sort it one only sees the following options: Message Type/From/Received/Subject .... googled this issue and the only answer I could find was in MSDN's Outlook Mobile Team Blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/outlook_mobile/archive/2006/07/05/657074.aspx)

QnA: Can I sort e-mails in the sent-items folder by recipient?
Question: I want to know if i can sort the sent items folder by "Sent to" instead of "Sent By" which is obviously myself.. I find it strange that this is not a sort option.
Answer (by Liang Chen, one of our Messaging Dev Leads):
No you can't. With its current design the email list view is optimized with a set of specially handled properties (sender, subject, and time) for better performance and in Sent folder you need recipient instead of sender, which requires some expensive database operation and will slow down performance. This is an unfortunate tradeoff we had to make between performance of more important scenario (inbox folder) and user experience of less important scenario (Sent folder) under current restriction.

This answer is quite old (5 July 2006) ... does anybody know if the situation has changed and Outlook Mobile's sent items can now be sorted out by recipient?
TIA

Well, i have this same issue now. The SENT folder only shows my name, which is logical.. I want to know the recepient..
anybody?

Hiya
Firstly, may I say what a great resource this forum is!! I've learnt a lot and I've only had the XDA for just under 2 months!
SMS storage, is anyone closer to finding out where this is stored? I have managed to locate the messages you send OUT in the windows\messaging folder, though it's only the actual text and doesn't contain any of the timestamped stuff etc. I cannot for the life of me find where the inbox for sms should be. I know others have had similar problems.
Cleartype, I have it enabled and it looks great, but it doesn't seem to appear everywhere. ie the Today screen. I did have a program (I think it might be Pocketblinds) but I found it unstable to the point where I would turn off the pda part, then back on again to find that the custom start menu icon had disappeared. Grrrr. Does anyone know a way to make cleartype effects appear on the today screen? I've tried putting a reg entry in various places of the registry for it but to no avail.
Also, if there is a way to bind together numbers and contact info for incoming SMS messages, presumably the same would apply for outgoing ones. Does anyone know of a program to do with sent items as sms_name by paragon does for inbox entries?
Thanks in advance
Anthony
in the database 'pmailFolders' lookup the desired foldername,
then open that foldername as a database.
these folders have names like 'fldr10019e7', these likely different
on each machine.
This may seem a stupid question, as I say I'm new to the XDA and hope to start writing programs for it soon (I've been a programmer for a while but not in this style)....
how do I open it "as a database"? I've tried going into Databases and selecting it but i cannot drag it to the desktop or open it in file explorer on the phone.
Cheers
Anthony
If you are interested in enabling celartype (any many other enhancements) you should check pocket facelift.

[Q] Beginner questions about contacts

Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.

[Q] Seeking the Impossible Calendar App

I'm new to Android, have a non-rooted Tranformer TF101 and prefer to keep it that way for now. I need a stand-alone, non-syncing calendar app that allows me to add typed notes to each day's appointments and to attach .jpg and - here's the impossible part - .pdf files to each appointment. I also want password protection for the entire clendar.
I tried Jorte, but can't add .jpg or .pdf files to the appointments - unless I just can't figure out how, which I'm not ruling out. I've tried Private Diary. While it's not in the monthly calendar view I prefer, I could add .jpg files to each day. . . but then it kept crashing.
I love my Sunbird calendar and would go all-Android if there were something like it available. Anyone want to write this app for me? I'm a lawyer and I know other lawyers would find this useful.
Thanks!

Android and MobileMe compatibility?

Guys, I'm on the verge of jumping ship from an iPhone 4 to a One X (when released). But my only problem may be the fact that I have a MobileMe account - Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc - which I really can not afford to lose.
I need the possible new HTC to be able to do all that the iPhone does with MobileMe on the iPhone - Push Mail, Cal and Contacts. Is this possible?
I know some people have setup GMail accounts instead, but due to business needs I really cannot afford to change accounts right now.
Sorry guys. Have I asked a mega stupid question that no one wants to answer? Or is it because no one knows?
It's not gonna sync with iCloud and going from iPhone to Android is like downgrading from a BMW to a broke down scooter.
MobileMe is completely proprietary in the sense that it will only work with apple products nothing else, email has a chance of working but it will be fairly stripped down as it's not gmail. Also ignore the troll above me, not allowing you to use something you pay for on anything you want is just another one of the many many reasons to leave apple products.

You don't pay for iCloud, it's free. There is no reason to leave Apple for Android seeing how the OS is a fragmented mess. You have a better chance of winning a pottery then getting a timely update from an OEM.
Thanks for the replies guys
I've been doing some research and have had some help from other places, and it seems that MobileMe can be sync'ed but with the assistance of other desktop apps.
If these work well, then I will take the leap.
Alex2792, I would have agreed with your "downgrade" comment a year ago. But having seen some of these new Android phones in full flow... well, no restrictions, far cheaper, far more modifiable - it makes sense to
how i got contacts from mobileme
this is my solution.
1. login to mobileme
2. go to address book
3. select all entries in your address book
4. under setting select export contact
5. connect your HTC phone to your mac in disk mode (found under setting within the connect to PC menu)
6. once connected, open finder and copy your vcards.vcf file from your mac to the mounted phone's downloads directory
7. after copy is completed, disconnect phone
8. restart phone (I had to do this for the storage device to find the file)
9. open contacts on HTC phone
10. open contacts settings (top right corner)
11. select to import contact from phone storage
12. import should begin and all contact will be found under under in contacts under "phone"
a status window popped up showing the percentage complete until all 350 contacts were added. I got pics, email addresses, and names without issue.

I really don't understand this fragmented crap.
I have a 2 yearold HTC EVO4G which I've been completely happy with. It runs android 2.3.5, without any noticable bugs. I have decent battery life (newer phones have better due to better displays, and not using a 60nm chip), can run any app on the market, and can do all sorts of things that I can't do on iphone (such as change a freaking default browser). I use the go launcher, which is freaking pretty, and has all kinds of new fanciful effects. I don't even have the original launcher installed anymore. My contacts, photos and videos are automagically uploaded and backed up on google plus, dropbox, my desktop, and my netbook.
I have a very good experience on my "fragmented" phone.
Ignoring the obvious troll, I too have switched from android to iphone back to android and then iphone and am back to android. Since google backs up all your app data (who needs call logs backed up?) and there is an app to backup your texts, well I don't see any reason to blast google.
Also, do some research, there are some desktop appear that can help you switch everything over. Although it sounds like you've already done that.
For instance:
Dropbox will automatically upload your pictures to yourself and every device that has your account installed.
Google backs up all apps just like iOs.
You can most certainly have push email with android that is not gmail based. There are a ton of email clients in the play store.

HTC one x plus - apps advice

Hello everyone
I hope someone can help me with this.
I have just moved to android from ios and hopefully i'll stay on android because of the fact that it can customize everything on it.
I have a question regarding some apps at the moment.
Does anyone know any good app for hotmail that allows to see all the folders.
At the moment the native app it makes it very hard to browse through my hotmail account where I need a few steps in order to switch folder and in addition it doesn't tell me which folder has emails unless I go in it.
On the iphone I was greeted with all the folder as a root window and each folder had a notification showing how many non read messages were in each folder so browsing was easy.
I've tried hotmail seven as well but the problem with the folder is the same unless I need to do something with the settings, which I don't have any clue about.
If someone has used hotmail and know what I'm talking about then please let me know if you know about any app.
Secondly: I wanted to know if there's an app that allows me to receive notifications about messages, emails etc but without showing the contentn of the message and that gives me also the ability to put passwords on messages so that it can't be accessed without it.
and finally: I'd like to know if you guys are aware of a good contacts manager that allows to keep contacts private so that names and similar stuff is now shown in the incoming and outgoing calls.
Sorry for the many questions but will appriciate if you can help.
Thank you
What I do to find all this information is go on Google and type in (example) best hotmail app for android and read the post.
