App Similar to Sense UI?? - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

Ok, so I can't seem to find anything on this. I had Sense UI on my old phone and I really liked how everything was consolidated within contacts. When you selected "contacts", you'd see their name and whatever their FB status was. Then when you'd click a specific contact, you'd have tabs for each communication method. You could easily click on call history, SMS history, emails, etc.
I can't seem to find anything like that for the Streak in an app format. There has to be something like that.

Is PhoneBook 2.0 something like what you are looking for http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.voxmobili.phonebook2

Close. Better than the stock contact app. No email grouping and you have to link one profile at a time to FB.
Like I said, better than stock, so I'll use that for a while. Thanks!

I think you'll struggle to find a home replacement with all the features of SenseUI.
Sense isn't just an .apk, it replies heavily on HTC's framework.
When Dell get off their arse and release the Kernel, we should be able to port over Sense to the streak

WHEN ???????????

I don't necessarily want a home replacement, just a better contacts/email/sms/info organizer. The link above is close. Another drawback I found, when you put a contact shortcut on the home screen, it opens the stock contacts and not the Phonebook app.

The contact app from 2.1 is much better, either wait for the upgrade or flash the leaked beta,
To direct dial a contact with a shortcut go to add /shortcut/direct dial
The icon will direct dial the number you choose.

No, I know how to do that. I mean, when I put the contact on the desktop (whatever you call it for Android ) it opens the contact in the stock contact manager, not PhoneBook 2.0 manager. When I use Handcent, I defaulted that as the SMS client, so now when I start a new SMS, Handcent pops up. I don't get that option with Phonebook, for some reason.

[Q] Disable sms conversation

Does anybody know how to turn off SMS threated mode (conversation) and make it normal like in outlook (just classic view - sorting according to date)? I had android 1.5, than tried 2.2 and 2.1 but i didnt found any option for this. Thanks for help...
Moved to Q&A as not development
Why would you want to go back to the old way? It was clearly worse. One of the greatest change I had from upgrading to a Hero was the conversation mode - just incredible. Why would you want to go back to a situation where you can't see the message you're replying to?
On topic - have you tried Handcent SMS and checked the options? That app is amazing.

thats because its sorted according to date like in Outlook. icould never use outlook with conversation mode in my work becouse it seems to me very chaotic. You only see name and number of sms, so you have to click on contact. Dont know why developers dont give us at least possibility to turn it off. i think its just a matter of small tweak or st....
The individual threads are still sorted by date though. So you still know the latest texts over the older ones, i.e. higher the contacts name the newer the text. You don't have to even look at the older texts as they're hidden in the conversation lists but available if necessary.
As I said Handcent is the most likely program to have this feature.
It's unlikely to be a "small" tweak as it requires splitting your conversations into Inbox & Outbox as well as then having multiple messages for each contact. This is a complete overhaul of the way in which it currently sorts, sends and receives messages.

[Q] What sms and dialer app do you guys use?

Hi!
I find the default sms app a bit lacking in features, it's not very nice/pretty and it's slow. I've tried handcent and go sms pro, and they're OK but I feel they're also a bit slow and sluggish. So what do you guys use?
And hm, the dialer, why oh why can't they implement it like for example the HTC Sense one, where you can dial the "letters" of a contact with the dial-pad and it'll find it? Like 2 = abc, 3 = def, etc... Anyone know a better one for SE?
Handcent was always really quick for me until recently.. about a month ago maybe? (was using it for ages on my X10..) Would like to know if anyone can suggest an alternative to that..
I used superdial for a while, but it's not being supported now as they're doing a complete re-write.. however, dialer one looks pretty good.
I am using Handcent SMS although it seems slow & sluggish now, was quick on X10i. I have tried Go SMS Pro also, but Go SMS is way too slow & sluggish on ARC So i have to live with Handcent... As i am a SMS-person, i need a fast SMS app I will try Chomp SMS within days...
I use stick dialer
For Calls, I recommend Dialer One. It has Speed dial (type numbers for letters), and it's customizable. For SMS, i'm still with the default one.
For dialing I'm using TouchPal Smart Dialer:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cootek.smartdialer
For sms I'm using Handcent SMS: ( not sluggish at all for me )
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.handcent.nextsms
for sms ... go sms pro ... but i didnt use the handcent to compare so ill try it and tell ya
for dail . default becuz i feel the other is complicated .. but im gona try again hehe
ARC of NOAh
I have purchaised donate version of Chomp SMS today.. Using it & it is quciker & faster than handcent & Go sms pro so far, but need more testing
Touchpal dialer and go sms pro. Both do the job good for me.
Sent from my Arc using Tapatalk
i used to use dialerone but have recently switched to youlu which loads much faster. the latest version is integrated with sms. i prefer to use a separate sms app (go sms pro by the way) so i downloaded v1.5 from the internet which was the latest version before the sms function was added.
I am using RocketDial Pro - cool dialer!!
I have tried pair GO SMS + GO Contacts, but it had not good localization, & after RocketDial found i`ve delete them & now use standart app for SMS.
I've always been a massive fan of handcent SMS, havent gotten around to installing it on my arc yet, but if it's really laggy i might give one of the others a go.
Was happily using diallerone on my previous phone. However there was a recent update of the app and it suddenly started to request *far* too many permissions from the phone for a simple dialler app, so i wont be installing it on my arc.

I have no lag at all with Handcent, so I'd suggest you try it if you use to use it. It can always be uninstalled if it's bad for you.
I was really liking the stock sms app. Even liked it on my x10. But i just realized that the arc's messaging app doesn't have the search function.
I used to use it all the time. Anyone got any other suggestions. I want it to be just like the arcs standard app but with search.

power search is great.. and you'll be able to search calendar and pretty much anything else!
i use the GO products from the DEV Team,
i like go sms pro, and also uss go contacts and go dialer,
i was using go launcher ex on my HTC desire before, but right now i stayed with the SE ARC's normal home launcher
I use Go Dialer and handsent for sms,,
Never sluggish for me,,,,,,
Go SMS is definitely much better than the stock app
Are any of the various SMS apps mentioned here better suited to landscape usage?
The stock one is ok but when viewing previous messages the bar along the top of the screen with the contact information in it takes up a lot of room - the picture etc could easily be shifted to one side instead.
And when composing a message, the send button is hidden behind the keyboard, with the pointless 'add media' button above it.
If anyone knows of a messaging app that addresses both of these issues, I'd be interested to hear.
I will be trying Chomp, Go SMS and Handcent soon anyway but I'd still appreciate the feedback.
I use chomp SMS and dialer2. Chomp is similar to iPhone with the conversation bubbles, it comes with several themes or you can create your own...its very customizable. I highly recomend chomp. Dialer2 is ok. It is all black with white text and numbers. It doesn't have many features but it can search your contacts using the t9 number pad like sense.

Is there a way of disabling the default notification when using another sms app? when I installed both Go and Handcent I get two notifications for each sms.

Suggest Best dialer and addressbook

Can anyone please suggest a good dialer with address book..which has google and Facebook sync for CM7.
Tried youlu and contapps(uselessly using lot of screen area) but weren't up to the mark..
Please suggest one...thanks in advance ..

hi there
I think you should try GO CONTACT,it has dialer that integrate your phone's contacts with your contacts from facbook google yahoo etc
I use GO Contact it is very good. It has features like quick search in the manufacturer HTC phone app. Unfortunately, it would prefer the original applications from HTC.
Don't know if you are facing the same issue..but go contacts always takes time in initial loading of contact list..any solution ...please suggest ...

Yes, you are right about go contacts, try phonebook 2.0 on appbrain or market, it has nice UI and is faster than go contacts, I think.
Go contacts sucks, compared to the CM7 Dialer most dialers suck.
The only drawback I found in this rom's dialer is the fact that you cannot preview a contact when typing a part of that contacts number into the ,,phone" tab. ( like the sense dialer does for example )
Any ideas on how to enable that, as I am unable to find the option?
You can't on the Stock dialer, it's not supported, which is exactly why everyone is finding (Or rather, trying to find ) alternatives.
This feature is called Smart Dialing BTW, Just FYI.
I use TouchPal. It supports smart dialing and is much faster than Go Contacts.

Does that sync the FB contact details..
I use contapps, works pretty well.
Contapps use lot of screen space in case of wildfire

Angel Dialer is the best
Personally I use aContact - skins, plugins, integrates Call History with dialer screen, smaller than GO Contacts & seems pretty quick.
I tried lot of Dialers and in my opinion the best are:
- aTAKEphONE (payed)
- Youlu Address Book (free)
For "best" I mean they are fast in smartdial and they are nice/fancy, plus they fit pretty well on the QVGA screen of our Wildfire.
I never tried Angel Dialer and aContact, so I'm gonna try them ASAP.
Bye

Your phone is Wildfire? Install, go to aContacts, not see any contacts ...
Contapps is definitely has the best dialer, work smoothly and has so many extra cool stuff.

Should open to show the dialer - swipe right to see Contacts, swipe left for config screen to download plugins & set initial screen ... at least that's how it installed for me
+1 on Contapps, fastest dialer in the market, works great for me.
Hello,
before i use the Dialer of CM7 i used Youlu and last i prefer Go Contacts!

[Q] SMS Popup

I have been using "SMS popup" on my android phones for years now. Never had a problem until I installed it on this new Rezound. The SMS popup comes up when a new text comes in, it just doesnt pull up the person's profile photo as it's supposed to. It's got to be an HTC/Sense issue. I've used SMS popup on AOSP, Samsung Touchwiz, and Team Hacksung's ICS port for the Galaxy S; all of which funtioned properly.
I know I can get handcent but I really like the way this HTC messaging app looks (and its ad-free, unlike handcent). And SMS popup is such a simple way to accomplish the popup on incoming texts and still allow me to use the manufacturer's messaging app.
Has anybody else run into this problem or have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Do you have your contacts linked? Maybe it doesn't know which one to grab...
Alternatively go with Go SMS which is free and does pop up.

Some contacts are linked, some arent. Either way, neither contact photos shows up.
The way my contacts are set up is, I have a google gmail contacts. None of those have any photos in them. Then I also let facebook sync my friends list to my contact list. Some facebook friends also have a google gmail contact equivalent. Those are the ones that are linked.
This is the same way I've always done my contacts on all my other android phones and it's never been a problem. This HTC phone is the first time I've ran across this problem. It's like the SMS popup is calling for a contact photo, but the HTC version of the contact app is calling it by a different name.
Weird, SMS popup works just fine for me pulling up the contact pic using sense etc (innefilibis ROM if that matters)
By the way, I used Handcent for years (with the ads blocked) but this is the first phone I like the stock SMS so much (with red theme bubbles) I didn't even bother installing it.

Stock messaging app & embedded URL's ?

guys I have a question: does the stock messaging app NOT have an option or setting or something to tell it what to do with embedded links? when I press on a link, the response options I get are for the whole message [like save, forward, whatever] not for the link. it doesn't seem to recognize the link even though it is properly highlighted...
I was hoping to get out of the "two competing messaging apps" cycle but gosms at least knows what to do
if you are rooted then just delete the stock apk and keep gosms.
Have you seen the same problem with the default msg app?
never used stock. i use att messaging on cm9.i like having voicemail transcribed and messages all in one app. embedded urls work fine with it. also work on google voice. thats why i suggest just deleting stock. there are better ones out there. like you said gosms works fine.
