Flash to EU fw? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
so I've just picked up my Galaxy S Vibrant, imported from the US. Since I am a Norwegian I would very much like to flash to the European firmware with Norwegian language support. However, samfirmware.com site says that one "should ask in the forums" if ones phone is from the US.
So, is it safe for me to follow the regular guides and flash the phone to EU fw? Also, not sure if it's related, when I try to check my fw version (*#1234#) I get the message "Unable to process request"?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Kies question

I live in latin america, but I received as a gift an european ace. My question is if I will receive updates from kies over here or I have no other choice but to flash my phone if I want gingerbread? I'm asking because I think my firmware is old (KAA) but there is not any update avaliable.
Thanks.
Read this*, and install this** to upgrade to GB!
* Root the phone
** Flash!
Thanks for the answer but that is not what I'm asking. I want to know if kies will let me update my phone when I'm not (and never will) in the area where it was purchased. I prefer an "official" update if there is a chance of it. If it is not, of course I will flash my phone.
The linked ROM is the official firmware, and since ive never used KIES (never had to), i have no clue.
you must specify a CSC which is for your region (latin america).
You can flash a multi-csc firmware from samfirmware and when done, enter
*#272*YOUR-IMEI# then choose the approriate CSC (latin america)
When done, KIES will update your firmware again.
Cheers

[Q] Which firmware to install?

Hi everyone, I am new here. I just returned i9100g for a i9100. Anyways as I look for the i9100 firmware at sammobile.com, there are tons of ICS available. Which one will I install?
Also I am in Bangladesh, however we get mixed region phones: Sometimes from Malaysia, Singapore, France, etc. How do I know which region I have, so it can guide to install the proper ICS.
I installed XXLPJ, everything works well, however I noticed that just like my initial i9100g, whenever I use the voice to setup alarm, it doesn't work. I fixed this problem when I installed the proper region firmware for my phone, which was French at that time. The problem is I don't know which region of the phone this actually is.
Any idea?
Thank you
I dont think different regional firmwares will make any difference in your alarm settings too...
you can check the firmware information by dailing *#1234#
ROM selection
you can have a look for the language supported by that rom, you can also go for custom rom, language information was given there that it support these many language.
Also i am agree with "zaheedahmed" that "regional firmwares will make any difference in your alarm settings" i guess this the bug with that version of ROM, so it better to upgrade your ROM.
Thanks for your responses. What do I need to look after after for the latest firmware, android version? Cause there are tons of 4.0.3

Official Version for ace

Hello.
I want to install a new rom that it an official version for my ace.
The problem is, that there are versions that specific for a country.
My question is which version i need for my country?
I live is Israel.
Thank you very much.
Go here and select your region. Then flash with ODIN.
Yes, but there is no my country. Is there a difference between the countries?
The csc file is differente between countries, that means system language, keyboard language and some preinstalled app.
If u want official check for upgrade with kies or via OTA on setting\info\firmware upgrade\update (eventually check the wifi option)
Thank you both very much

Hong Kong SGS II Firmware Update?

Hi Guys
I have a SGSII, which I got in Hong Kong a couple of years ago. It came pre-installed with Stock Samsung Firmware ICS 4.0.3. I currently living in the UK and was wondering if I did a Firmware update using Kites, would it install you UK version of the firmware instead of the HK version?
If it's got the HK firmware/CSC on it, it will update to the latest for that region; where you are now is irrelevant, it reads the CSC info off the phone to determine what firmware to upgrade to, assuming there is a later firmware for that region.
But it's a moot point. Why would you use Kies for anything ? Flash whatever stock rom for whatever region you want with Odin.

To be honest, I am a noobie when it comes to the advanced aspects of android devices. So I've always followed the mantra of always following the manufacturer's instructions to the letter. Also I don't want to loose all my user data for my game of Asphalt g

Unknown "LAO" firmware, please help noob flash

Hi,
I bought a G850EMW from China to work in the UK. It has Android 10 and works perfectly. However I would like to update to Android 12. I have seen guides for this involving downloading a Rom from LGRom.com.
My current phone is running "V20a-LAO-COM". LAO seems to be hard to find information about, and there are no LAO roms on the site. I saw on one forum a reference to "Latin Amercian Region".
My question is can I go ahead and flash my phone with a Rom from say Germany (DEU) or will this cause a problem (is this a "cross-flash") as I'm supposed to find a compatible "LAO" region firmware? I don't want to brick my phone, but I would like the latest security updates, battery improvements, etc.
Thank you.
