[Q] How do you boost battery performance? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my HTC HD2 (O2) phone, my drains battery drains why too faster, i'm running the latest ROM v1.72.206.3 from O2, is there a way of boosting battery performance?

install a new radio rom. Which is best for you is dependant on your area but for me it's 2.12.50.02_2. I also use the energy 6.5.x series roms (not the best on battery but is very easy to use) in conjunction with the radio rom i just mentioned. On light usage my phone will last almost 3 days. With heavy usage (but not playing video) it will last about 2.
Geting rid of the stock software and going custom and newer was probably the best choice i made regarding my phone.

If you want to keep your radio and stock ROM (like me, 1.72 TMob) you can also try and space out the update of weather and email. l have automatic weather updates every 3 hours and emails every hour. You'll be amazed how long the battery lasts. On the other hand, if you are in an area with not very stable reception, your battery will drain quicker because the phone will be working very hard to try and find a stronger signal to keep you connected. So, battery trouble is not just down to stock ROM or even usage. We have a growing number of super-sophisticated smartphones (not just HD2's) using almost Jurassic networks

I use Dutty's latest rom and have to say it is great for battery life! =)
Heres the settings that I use to get 2 - 3 days per charge:
- No email account (I use opera to see my gmail account so I dont need my email updating every few hours draining battery)
- No weather animation (The clouds get annoying for me anyways so I'd rather not have this battery drainer)
- 30% display backlight brightness
- Wifi off
- Bluetooth off
- 2g edge connection on and 3g turned off unless I need to browse the internet
- HTC location services off
- Black background
EDIT: Heres the link to the ROM I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610634

Sooooo, looks like the only way to have good battery life is to switch off all the functionality that makes the HD2 better than a crummy 10yr old Nokia. Is there nothing else? Anyone know of higher capacity battery availability? Mine drains completely between 8am and 6pm with a couple of short calls, couple of minutes on the internet, location on (hourly updates) and push gmail.
Just found this - very helpful people and lots of ideas to sort out battery draining issues:

Battery Life? Nothing running, no calls, or messages. 10% down in an hour?

Is this what everyone else is getting? I am running DCD's latest Rom and Radio.
I used to get two days, now i may get one. This is with no GPS running or any programs. Or making any calls.
Any advice?
Rephrase then.
How much battery life is everyone getting on the new Rom?
Are you sure your wi-fi switch is OFF?

"These are some factors that could cause your battery to drain fast"
The brightness of the screen is a factor. Try lowering it if possible.
Disable active sync, bluetooth, wifi, and beam when not needed.
Using the GPS drains the battery quick. ( results vary )
Push email also assists with battery drain.
Put your phone on standby when not in use.
Also the extensive use of PIE and Windows Media Player also assists with the drain of battery.
Last if you have poor signal strength this can also be a factor for battery drainage.
There are others out there but these are some that I encountered and learned live with.
There is a battery hack out there that can help you with your battery life. I don't know from the top of my head but search for a registry battery hack.

all those are try but when you first got your phone did you charge it all the way before using it cuz messes up the battery i know it did for me
Follow up.
On my original Rom I could get 48 hours on a charge.
Today I got 8 hours. I did not use GPS, I am not using vibrate for calls. I only got two calls. And two emails.
Basically I am using the same settings as I had on the original Rom and getting about 24 hours less battery life.
I guess I'll switch back and report then.
Perhaps this might be it?

DAMN.. that would explain alot.. I have a feeling its the same bug with the titans..
I dunno... I've been through the progression from 2.0.0 to 2.1.0 to 2.2.0 to 2.3.2 and I haven't seen anything like this.
I use the phone for about 10 minutes a day, so not much call time, but I have it checking 4 IMAP accounts every 15 minutes, do about an hour of web browsing, and use the GPS two to three times a day (basically any time I drive anywhere cuz it's fun!) and the most my battery has drained is down to 70% after about 16 hours.
Just to give an alternate view... battery life has been very good for me.

No. When I first got my phone I installed on the apps I researched before buying the phone, configured my WiFi, and imported my playlists from Windows Media and then I charged my phone with the AC adapter.
I use alot of WiFi through out the day along with Stereo Bluetooth Headphones to listen to music one Windows Media Player and I have a very good battery life.
Follow up.
My email server locked up this morning and my activesync wouldn't sync.
BUT my battery life was back to it's old self, used 6% in 4 hours. Very Happy!
Email server is now working and Active synce is syncing.
When I check the activesync program it always says connected now. Is that normal? It doesn't seem like it used to say connected all of the time.
It does look like activesynce may be the problem. The setting are the same as they were before the flash.
Any info would be appreciated.
Update: In case anybody is following this.
I went back to stock ROM and Radio.
Battery behavior is back to Normal. I am going to reflash to GPS Rom and see if that was the problem.

I an confirm this too. A few days ago I noticed excessive battery drain and reset my phone, and put it out of my mind. The only later ROM that I'd retained for days at a time has been 2.3.1 and today my battery level feel down by 50% in ~6 hours of standby. With the power on, with 46% remaining, the OS estimation for usage was 26 minutes. In 1% increments I could see it counting down....
I checked all running processes and nothing was out of the ordinary and nothing except that running task manager was bothering the CPU.
On a reset it appears fine.. Disconcerting. My phone didn't demonstrate this behaviour with the DCD 2.1 and previous ROMs. I don't know if to go back to 2.1 or 1.6.10. I'll see if this issue shows up again over the next few days.
That was the same problem I had.
Hopefully I'll dp some more testing this weekend.
After a reset the draining was repeating for me.. I decided to revert back to a working DCD 2.1 set-up and all appears fine again.
2.3.1 ROM was a kitchen build including the transcriber and no2chem's nueLED v1.5. That's all that I can think of being out of the ordinary.
I thought I am the only way with this problem. I thought it just a bad battery. Using DCD 2.31. Before 2.31, battery is about 90% on casual used when I left work. With 2.31, it becomes 95% after it pull from the power plug. Browser the web for like 10 minutes, it goes down to like 92%. By the time I finished work, and get back home around 7, it left with like 30%. That's on casual use.
Anyone tried reflashing to see if that helps the battery consumption?
It seems like this is not common, but effects a few of us.

I am also noticing the same effects, i was thinking bout reflashing my rom, i am currently running dcd's 2.3.2
Flashed back to stock and then back to 2.3.2
It looks like I am seeing the same battery drain again!! ARGH!!!
My battery is dropping like crazy too since the latest kitchen. When I first went to DCD's first WM 6.1 ROM I was blown away by the battery life. Same settings , same apps, different ROM and the battery life blows.
I decided to wait it out for a week and see if the new ROM comes out, if not I'm going back to the WM6.1 ROM that I first tried.

Yes... none of the 2.1 ROMs currently provide long battery life times. I believe that one of the chefs said it was because of the kernel and that it won't be fixed until HTC releases or leaks an official Hero kernel for Android 2.1.
However it also depends on what you think would be a good/adequate battery life.
Personally I charge every night so as long as the phone lasts circa 24 hours it is fine with me.
All 1.5 based roms should give you battery life over 24 hours even with everything turned on.
as for tips:
-turn of wifi when not using it
-turn of mobile internet when not using it
-turn of gps
-always put phone in sleep mode (end button) when not using it
- screen time out turned low
- backlight on low
- kill tasks that run in background
- don't have a bright wallpaper
Just depends how extreme you want to go
I have a decent battery life on the rom I am on (see sig) and I use a brightish wallpaper and auto backlight but always turn wifi off when out of the house.
Flashing a new radio file can also help battery life.
Edit: with a bit of use I have lost 5% in the last 8 hours on my phone today
Mhm too bad i like to use 2.1
Does 2.1 Roms drain the battery so much more?
Battery life is very important for me...
I am running the original Rom and i had to charge my hero every night, too.
But one day is okay...
Thank you for your tipps (bright wallpapers *lol*, but it make sense^^)
So what are you fav. 1.5 roms?

P.s. Does HTC want to upgrade the hero to 2.1 ??? Would be awesome...any dates?

indication is yes they are updating to 2.1 however they have not released any official confirmation of when.
rumors are March and/or April, but don't hold your breath
SenseHero 1.6 is awesome 1.5 ROM
Also it uses a nice theme, and can last for more than a day

To me BeHero has the best battery life of the 2.1 roms and Villain had the worst (the life would literally go from 100% to 50% in 4hrs and I barely touched the phone).

I put on 3.4 yesterday and ya my battery life was terrible. The only thing is that I hadn't ever updated my radio. Now instead of it being dead within 4-5 hours I've gone over a dozen and my battery is down to 45%, which is pretty good for me. I'm a pretty data intensive with my phone.
if you want to test the battery life, test it 2 days or more!, because the first day every rom(almost..) is draining fast, because then it needs to set up everything etc(idk excactly why)

Wow I find it very hard to believe that you only lost 5% battery in the last 8 hours with little use...do you have mobile data on or off?
Even with no use at all I can never get 5% decrease in 8 hours, regardless of whether its a 1.5 or 2.1 ROM. I keep my mobile data on all day and night and with no use at all i lose like 20% battery life in 4 hours.
If you want 2.1 firmware with good battery life, go foe BeHero_v1.3.2, I am using it without any trouble!

Trust me I was not lying I have no reason too.
Will report on what it does today.
Yesterday I had mobile internet mainly off but turned it off at certain times of the day.
So far today (3 hours since fully charged)
-wifi for about an hour
-use wifi things during that time (seesmic and News Rob mainly)
- bluetooth for 45 mins (journey to work)
- mobile internet for about 40 mins
- downloaded an app and tested it (used barcode scanner to scan a barcode (twice) and go to the download link)
- synced emails
- sent a text
- mobile internet now off and back asleep
And a reboot as my connection was lost for some strange reason
lost 2%

i cant even get half of that with 1.5 rom (with the same usage)..i will surely lost like 10% with that kinda usage on phone..
no offense..but..unbelievable...
my current setting :
GPS , WIFI & Bluetooth off..
brightness around 15%
dark wallpaper..
mobile internet on when browsing needed
@aziz831
Lennyuk´s battery consumption is real. My battery would last 216 hours just in idle. But that would mean just asleep and waiting for a call.
I use WiFi 18/7, I have in that time mobile data enabled, I have a brown wallpaper and my backlight is on lowest level (but I can still see everything). My average loss is 1-1,5 % a hour if I´m in idle with all this enabled. Over night I do disable WiFi and auto sync, that saves a lot of power.
My average time of usage with one load is about 80-96 hours.

[Q] HTC Legend Battery drain

Hello, I`m new to this forum and wanted to ask if anyone knows why my HTC Legend drains battery so fast. My phone is rooted with Fuse ROM and unlocked bootloader but it was draining battery on stock ROM too. Even with the screen of it drains ( in 8 hours with screen off it drains almost 10%). I have 3G connection on all the time and when I`m at home i don`t have full signal in the house so it may be a network problem that affects the battery?
a weak network signal may be one reason for the battery drain (since your phone has to use more power to send data).
however when there's always synchronisation & exchange of background data going on in the background, i think 10% battery down in 8 hours isn't way out of the ordinary.
maybe you'll get some clue, what components are causing the drain when you go to settings > about phone > battery info...
Best solution to stop battery drain is turn every thing off if you're not using it eg GPS, wifi, Bluetooth, mobile data, auto sync, if you have them on they will chew up power.
On a stock legend, HTC would seam to have the CPU speeds set at 480 low and 600 for high, if you root and set your lower value to lower than 480 that will also help in cyanogen lowest value is 245.76, this seams to be ok, on other roms they can go as low as 19, this is not so good as phone can sometimes freeze. I never go below 122.
sent from my legend, currently using extream legend fuse™
My HTC legend battery life is 2 days. But I enable internet access only when I want, same for gps
Have you tried to calibrate your battery after installing custom ROM? Try the free battery calibration app from the market.
I'm using "[ROM] B 0.8.4 based on stock HTC FroYo (04/13/2011)".
Using the stock speeds the battery drain is quite fast, I get a day at best. I'm running 245 - 804 and this makes the battery last days. I'll try down to 122 to get a tiny bit longer battery life

it is a common problem... as long as your phone signal is not dropping to completely zero that it goes for finding alternative networks its fine.. but if it is dropping blank .. try using airplane mode (ya no other option )
or else as a quick thing try below options
- try installing infolifes battery defender (tweak their ignore list if required). along with their advanced task killer (jst set for auto kill when screen off and not interval kill
- get a cpu governor (I was using cyanogenmod inbuilt one) and set in conservative a low-400mhz and high-600mhz
-turn off auto brightness if u've it on and use it in low as required
hope these should squeeze some more extra standby time..
I went back to a stock rom after putting up with the battery issues.
a friend told me that there's a .bat file that helps with the battery issue, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
I also had freezing problems when I tried to adjust CPU settings, so my best option was to bake a rom through modaco without all the bloat crap.
Now it works a treat.. hope this helps
Bat files are for windows computers, not used on android....
However your friend might be talking about the "battery.stats" file deleting it is supposed to help "calibrate" your battery, I personally have not seen any benefit to battery life doing this. Once your phone goes flat (turns off) and you then fully charge it it seams to set the calibration automatically. The only way I can see it actually helping if your a phone user that never let's the phone go flat enough to turn its self off.

IMO, battery life isn't bad on the HTC Legend if we compare it to High End phones. But there are ways to save it.
Ceebs typing the whole thing so I might as well link it to you from a similar topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586022
Cheers ranger.
I asked him about it, and it was a .bat file that is used through the adb and he didn't say where he got his information.
Removing the battery stats file can be done with an app from the play store, and that wasn't anywhere near as effective as the move from cyanogen 7 back to the baked stock HTC rom.

I've been using it for half a week now and battery is phenomenal even in LTE all the time. Will last you a full day off not a day and a half with moderate use. Full day heavy use probably.
You have nothing to worry about this time. Nokia got it right.
More details here: http://forums.wpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=200158
Mine sucks right now. I'm just using it for normal email updates and a few downloads from the app store and it'll be on 40% by 4-5pm. I've turned off a lot of the background updates on the live tiles too, but it's not making a difference.
Screen on time is disappointing.
Mine has excellent battery life. 2 days on a row on my last charge.
Ppl with battery life problems, I would suggest to visit the Nokia support forum.
Important
If you disable NFC (tap+send in settings) you have a HUGE improvement in battery life.
As mentioned above, disabling NFC and background apps will greatly improve battery life. I am more than satisfied.
I leave my data connection on 2G most of the day and it seems make the phone last all day, with heavy use. If I really need the faster connection I switch it to 3G. This seems to work for me
Full day, 3G use (using on a 3G only carrier, no LTE unfortunately). Moderate-to-heavy usage, not a problem getting back home, chilling on the sofa, doing what not, and having enough battery to last until bed time. FYI my day starts around 8-9 and I head to bed around 11ish+.
I hear battery life isn't as good when NFC is on. Don't know though, I never have NFC on anyways (really don't see how useful it is atm).
Battery saving Tips
This battery saving tip has been overlooked since WP7 first generation devices. The reason why some ppl will be having huge battery drain is due to apps running in the background. So, you need to think about the apps that you actually need to run in the background. Make sure all your email accounts are on the highest interval time to be checked and/or "as the item arrives". When you select as the item arrives I believe true push is being used which if you don't receive tons of emails will save battery in the end. The other apps settings are located here start screen>settings>swipe over to applications>background tasks>and block all apps that you can that don't need to be running background tasks. I for instance only have accuWeather app running background tasks. Another thing is you need to be aware of apps power usage...i noticed that accuWeather is far better at using less power consumption than the Weather channel app. Other tips are common knowledge. Disable NFC, use WIFI when available, turn off high sensitivity if you're not needing it, use low time-out for shutting off display and use low brightness. Be efficient!!
Good
Lasts me about 1hr for each 10% increment. About the same i was getting with the S3. While playing music its battery life seems to last longer than leaving it on standby :S Find standby kills battery some reason, just recently turned of nokia drive background app, hopefully that makes it last longer
Battery life has been excellent for me. Mine was fully charged on Wednesday morning @ 8 AM and was at 48% when I put it on the charger Thursday @ 2 PM with moderate uses. Unexpectedly, the battery life is much better while on the LTE network than when I'm using my SIM card not registered for LTE usage. Standby drain is very very good.

That's because WiFi stays connected when you're streaming music, whereas WiFi disconnects when on standby. Known windows issue that should be addressed by ms soon.

How do you switch the 920 to 2g mode? I only have 3g and 4g in the options on max speed? my old lg wp let me set either 2g or 3g, huge difference in battery life on that devic.
to be honest tho so far i'm impressed easily outlasts my old phone, just tried turning off the high sensitivity on the touch to see if it makes a difference.
also run down the phone till it turned itself off last night, tried turning it on got the warning icon of low battery, did it again then it started, data connectino wouldn't work battery said 0% remaining and it lasted just under half hour with me playing mirrors edge, makes me wonder how accurate the battery % is
Battery capacity seems to have been cut in half!
When I first got the 920, at 100% the estimated battery life would say 1 day and X hours. Now (2 weeks later) when my battery is at 100%, it now says 13-14 hours of estimated life. My battery also drains much faster now than it did in the first week of owning the 920. My use of the phone has not changed over the last two weeks. I'm always in an LTE area, WiFi on and I use bluetooth from time to time. Is this an issue that other people are experiencing?
I'm trying to figure out if I need to exchange my 920. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
i found it was using 2% battery every hour whilst connected to a data connection - but not syncing anything, all backround tasks turned off. This seems a bit mental.
So it seems that battery isn't so good :/ Too bad because i was wondering to buy this phone.

I'm always in an LTE area, WiFi on and I use bluetooth from time to time. Is this an issue that other people are experiencing?
I'm trying to figure out if I need to exchange my 920. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

After deep cycling the battery, I am back to the correct reading. I am now losing a little less than 1% of battery life per hour on standby!

Amazingly bad battery life since I flashed a custom ROM Lumia 710

So I've recently installed the RainbowMod 2.1 WP 7.8 custom ROM and my battery is now pretty much ****. I wanna know if this happens to everybody because of this ROM or did I do something wrong, because before on a full charge I was getting estimate standby time of over a day and a half. Now I'm getting 10 hours max. And also the battery pretty much dies after using cellular data like an hour or two. Before (on the stock 7.8 ROM) I could leave the cellular data on all day and still had some spare 40% or so. Is there some extra crap I should disable? I usually use medium brightness and turn on battery saver when I go out, but I use a lot of cellular data. Are there tweaks or something that the ROM is doing to f**k with my battery? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On stock, I usually get about 12hrs battery life using data, sms and light phone calls, but haven't noticed any difference since using any of the roms - I tried them all (RainbowMod, Reality, Rataplan v4 and Rataplan Lite, and settled on Rataplan Lite as it's the closes to stock you can get which I prefer).
Did you apple any tweaks to the phone? For instance, applying the dyhydration hack using WPH Tweaks which enables fast app-switching but can be a battery drain. Bluetooth or WiFi left on after applying rom?
