Small Problem with HD2 Screen/Housing - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey mates,
for some weeks i recognized, that the glass of my hd2 is pushed a half mm or so into the housing..
generally, it's only at the sides..but thats annoying while scrolling, cause you can feel the edge...
my hd2 is in perfect condition, no scratch or anything else...
my question is: have you got the same "issue"? i can live with it, but if i would know that it would be a warranty case, i would contact htc...
i have no cam here right now, but if you need, i post some photos...
DN41

I remember there were a fair number of reports of the seating not being flush way back around christmas.
Dunno whether anyone got it swapped under warranty though.

so here it is:
i'm wondering, if you all out there have a similiar issue..
i think its worth a try to write the htc costumer support?
DN41
edt: its hard to see but if you look at the right corner, theres no edge...

maybe someone who has experienced this?

mines like that all the way round, guess it stops it getting scratched if it lands face down

scratches? ive never seen that before on any hd2..
do you remember that video where the guy tried to scratch the hd2's glass with a blade?

you haven't seen mine then, ive scratched it!always keep it cased, had it out to play music and a broom fell on to it, not a major one, but seems a lot less then a knife!no idea how it done it!!
doesnt bother me as I never knew it was a problem, I quite like it recessed to be honest, you know where to stop your finger haha

My hd2 has a similar problem, after returning from screen replacement a few months ago, the new screen is offset from the housing, like near the earpiece I can slide a piece of card etc from the right corner into the middle, no issue though I just live with it at the minute, same as my pressure marks in the middle of the screen haha, all working fine apart from that, will wait until something drastically bad goes wrong then get onto the insurance

mines like that nearly all the way around, the only place its flush is along the bottow near the buttons and in the bottom left corner......
there was an incident where my screen took a pretty hefty knock 2 thirds of the way up on the right hand side, not sure if its coincidence or not but this is where the glass is least in line with the edge of the phone........
doesnt really bother me...... it will when my screen falls out though....

haha. mine is like that too, after like the 6 or 7th time going into service n out, i just cant bothered with sending it in again for something like the alignment lol. guess im like you, want everything perfect, so sent my phone for servicing 5 times in a month because they couldn't do a perfect job each time

hey mates
thanks for your help and feedbacks
i contacted htc and will let you know what they say...
if they say its a warranty case, i'll be happy...if not, i can live with it..
but, as smirnon says, i want everything perfect

Cali-for-nyee-aayyy Love, brah.
Oh! when I saw your hd2. I think we should double take care of our HD2.
Thats nothing this is what i did to mine:
Lucky seen as i had insurance so i got it a new phone to replace it
have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613954&page=24
You're not the first and not the last either, I bet. It happened to me too and I fixed it myself using the tips found on XDA.
The best one being getting a complete unit (LCD + Digitizer) and not just the screen.
I paid about 100 € on Ebay for the unit, came in about 3 dayx with the special tools shown on the leaked HTC video tutorial.
If I managed to do it, anyone can, believe me

Hello,
as far as I know HTC charge about 180 € ...
But you can have it repaired cheaper when you looking arround and find a local phone store.
I know what you must feel
@ceh01:
must say that pattern on yours is best so far
Hi,
HTC quoted £120 to repair the glass.
4 more month until i'm due an upgrade
Wondering if its worth it....
:S
man, some pretty bad looking screens here. i was soooo lucky with mine the other week. i was in the shed when i knocked my leo off the bench and it landed face down on the concrete, i well an truely shat my pants. god knows how or why but i got away with a tiny tiny crack in the top left corner, it really is so small its miniscule but i'll still probably blag a new screen through the bank insurance about a month before im due to upgrade.........

same thing happend to mine but i've got insurance so thay repare it for me for free just last week

Top layer of the screen cracked, poor build quality?

From day one when I got my Folio the right bottom of the screen is a bit coming out of the black "frame" (1-2mm). But lately its getting worser and tonight when I hold the Folio on that spot like usual, the top plastic layer suddenly cracked.
The screen itself is unharmed and as for the touch part, all still work fine.
This should be covered by the warranty I hope. Looks like a poor build quality. Only got the device for like 2-3 weeks. *sigh*
Should I flash it back to the stock rom? Since its running Dexter's Mod 1.3C now.
They only need to replace the plastic layer and maybe the touch part, idk.

Some pics of the crack, the board doesn't allow me to post links because my post count.
Well i would say hold it more carefully, the screen is glass and cracks like glass (if you want it to).

I am from Belguim too, and i have the same thing!
It didn't (yet) cracked here but still...
I thought it was because I always hold it with my left hand, normally warranty should fix the problem for you. (as long as the screen isn't cracked!!)
Did a factory reset and flashed it back to the stock rom. Don't want anyone getting hand on my "personal" data like logins/emails etc when you know how confidential ppl work at repair centers.
The screen itself is untouched, touch works fine even in the cracked area's. It is really that plastic/glass layer on top. I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow.
Killerbie, watch out around that area and don't put too much pressure on it when you hold it there. I was holding it with my right thumb (and palm of course) and then it suddenly happened. The layer doesn't fit very well in the black frame around it.
I just came back from the store and they refuse to take it under warranty. Even though everything works, touch part (even in the cracked area's), screen is untouched (no liquid leaking or spots), etc.
I'm going to call Toshiba Support directly and see what they say. Since I'm not the only one with that 1-2mm popping out at the right corner. It is just a matter of time the glass cracks on other's Folio.
I've also added more pics and a video showing the touch part is still working fine. But I don't dare to push on the cracked area to prevent further damaging.
http://s861.photobucket.com/albums/ab178/thepretorian/Toshiba Folio 100 - Screen cracked/
Despite being very carefully with my hardware, I noticed the screen is beginning to come loose. It's not as bad as I've seen on your pictures but worrying nevertheless. It's only 1 month old.
Looks like the folio 100 don't like being handled with just one hand.
Did you contact Toshiba, and what did they say?
Well after a couple of phone calls to Toshiba they agreed to pick it up and gave me an RMA. After a couple days I got an Email with some information and RMA number written in bad Dutch.
Saying that I have to print and sign this document stating that I agree to be charged in case the repair-center deem that the broken glass top is not covered by the warranty.
Due to that phrase and the fact if I sign, I'm screwed either way, because the device has to be fixed anyway. Also in the email they mentioned that I have to sent it to Czech Republic. Means that would cost me 44 euro to UPS it (sending faulty devices by regular post packs is a big no no).

So I mailed them back that on the phone the lady spoke of a pick up etc... No reply for one week. So I decided it to give it another try at the store.
This time it was a different person at the counter, I did my story, said that I contacted Toshiba and they agreed to repair it etc. And now its at their repair center for a week now.
And right after 2 weeks I sent that mail to Toshiba about that pickup, they finally replied back, saying, indeed a pick up will be done by UPS or TNT... and that they will contact me for the pick up.
So from calling to Toshiba, to get the device picked up... will take 2 weeks! *unacceptable*
So right now I'm ignoring Toshiba and hoping that the store is really going to repair it under warranty. Since its not a crystal breach. Just the top layer(glass/plastic, etc).
Glad I'm not the only one with this problem, mine is just the result of the problem.
Hm, sounds promising...not.
As said mine is not as bad as yours and my screen isn't cracked (yet).
I'm gonna send a mail to the shop I bought it from (Dynabyte NL), at this point it's acceptable but I don't want to wait till the problem gets bigger.
Thanks for your respond and I hope it works out for you.

Mine is also bulging, and it has never been handled with just one hand... Actually, it has never been handled, because I just bought it yesterday, and I have not even unsealed the plastic bag; touching it you can clearly feel the bulge, so I believe it is not that the screen comes unstuck after use, but that there is something pressing it outwards, that causes it to bulge first, and to crack later on. Of course, mine is going out tomorrow; I will exchange it for a non-pregnant folio, if available, because there are several people reporting the same problem, and in any case, will take out insurance on it; that way any potential trouble will be covered, either by the guarantee or by the insurance.
Glad that there are other people having this problem too. That was my first impression to, that something under the glass/screen is pushing it 1-2mm out. And after a while it sticking more out due to usage of the tablet.
Right after I got my tablet accepted at the store for repair, I went inside and checked the demo device if it had the problem too. And indeed, there it was also sticking out. I'm really disappointed in Toshiba
My screen is coming out a little bit too. At the Bottom, middle or slight right of the middle.
Funny thing is that my touchscreen sometimes just stops responding and then I have to slightly press that plastic frame part on the bottom and instantly after pushing it the touchscreen works again. So the tablet basically wants me to push it on that bulge.
Screen gapping away 2mm at the bottom
The same with my folio. Yesterday I RMAed it for repair.
The screen at the bottom is about 2mm gapped away so that it could be easily teared off by an accident. I didn't noticed it at first because I use original lether toshiba case.
Definitely it was the real cause of all my problems with responsiveness. Folio was often unresponsiveness at the bottom edge. After I pressed the gapped away plastic surface back down into its correct position then responsiveness was OK for some time until the gap reappeared again.
I think that everybody should check his/her folio. Maybe it could be a wide spread problem.
p.s. And all the time I was thinkink that it was a SW problem :-(
I asked in this Thread if maybe someone knows how to repair this as this is an Hardware issue. Maybe it's just a wrong screw that pushes the touchscreen out of the frame.
Took my folio to the shop today, it's going back to Toshiba for repair.
Got the option to trade mine in for a demo-model, but unfortunately it had the same problem. It's probably gonna take some weeks before I hear what's gonna happen. Repair, replace or nothing, we'll see.
I don't think it has to do with screws, while this problem is always on the bottom side it's not always on the exact same place.
Looks like some sort of tension, mine was ok when I bought it, one month later it's loose from the bottom-middle all the way to the right side.
Mine has been sitting at the repair center for more than a week... no new updates at all... sigh.

From day one the glass is sticking out a little bit at the right bottom of the device. The customer didn't return it while he has noticed that. By pressing on that spot, the glass cracked during a normal use. The customer has already contacted Toshiba and they "agree" to repair the device under warranty.

It is some kind of tension/pressure squeezing the screen together, like it doesn't really fit the frame.
So like Tobr said, everyone should check it out and report it to this thread so in case the store or Toshiba is charging you for the repairs, you can at least print or point them to this thread, saying that is a general problem.
According to the shop it could easily take one month before it's back, so I'll just wait and hope for the best.
Checking your device is indeed a good idea, an if you can live with the problem maybe get a written statement that your not responsible when the screen decides to crack.

I was able to introduce a thin peace of plastic between the frame and the screen and its much better now.
This way the plastic cover wont break and it responds way better.
I doubt that toshiba fixes this by replacing anything. If they used their brain they could solve this before it brakes
Well it must be a miss calculation of the sizes or places where the components are placed. So if they replace/fix the screen, the chances are big the bulging is still there.
But according the the European warranty law, if some thing is repaired for the 3rd time within the warranty period, they have to give you a brand new device or your money back. Still 23months to go (the warranty) here. Its gonna be a long journey
Finally after almost 2 weeks, some updates at the status page of the repair center

I take same glue and I fix it myself I know warranty is gone but at least I don't wait a month I will try to do some mod

Burn in (or whatever to call it) from sticker!!! :(

So I just got a new Galaxy S3.
It hasn't been a day and i've noticed a kind of a shade that looks like the "super amoled" logo that's on the sticker that you peel off.
I really hadn't noticed it at first but now it's really annoying on white background.
I've found a picture on the web so that you guys can see my problem.
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/3724/img2689su.jpg
Is there any way to get rid of this? I've tried running so called burn in fix apps but none of them worked.
I've also tried using wet wipes but it didn't remove it.. so It's not stains or anything and it appears like its burnt on the screen
Everything else is great about this phone but it's just this shade that looks like "c" that annoys me!
I have 6 months warranty but my dad bought it in Japan and he just returned from there and it's not like he's there every month so it's a bit of a problem.
If you have any solutions or if anyone here encountered the same thing please please share your experience.
Thanks in advance!

no alcohol is not dangerous (or any other liquid), as long as you do not let it seep through the sides of the phone.
I don't think that mark is inside, the plastic cover is outside and I don't imagine ever seeing a screen saver image of that type unless you have used one...
Hmmmm, its not only the c, you can see inside of the c the word amoled and on the top you can see the word galaxy s3

No not that I know of, my father took it off.
Anyway how silly it is to put sticker on the phone if there is a risk to get burn in because of sun light?? this is ridiculous from them!
at least warn the customers.
I don't know.. it's not like a stain or something because it seems imprinted inside the screen ;(
and that photo is not mine but I do have that same 'C' right in the same location obviously from the sticker

Return it or get it exchanged. That screen got exposed to sunlight while having the sticker on.
Probably a display unit (which you would not want to have).
Best of luck mate.

Ship or take to them .
Fact is standard warranty from a vendor is usually 12 months standard limited warranty from Samsung is 24 months .

According to their website there is also 6 months limited japan warranty.
I will contact them and I will also add pictures of the phone and all of the receipts..
And I see that when you ship the item to them you need to fill an RMA form so that no additional customs will be charged.

I noticed it 5 days after buying. Went to the store and they exchanged it for me.
