[Q] HTC Pro Three - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day all,
Am very interested to able to run Android on my device " HTC Pro Three" . I have try many ways but am still failed to do so.
As advice from " Pongster " this is because my HTC Pro Three RAM is only 320 MB and the android "startup.txt" will run on RAM 512 MB . That's the reason when it reboots it just blank only.
i don’t know if anyone out there have the same device or have any idea how i can make the "startup.txt" able to run under my 320 MB.
If you have any idea or know the solutions, kindly assist me.
Thanks and Regards

what's an "HTC Pro Three?"

I think it was the HD2 prototype

+1 as seen HERE

Am not sure.
So is there any way we can make it work on android? Like HTC HD 2?

can u flash regular hd2 winmo roms? (yours is the one in the picture, right?)

Just by curiosity!
Where did you buy it?
From [[ Cold ]]'s link I see that it has the 1 ghz Snapdragon processor but not the whole rams

I think I read somewhere here on xda someone else had the tp3 prototype. Unfortunately they were out of luck because of the specs and the limited number available there is absolutely no support for that phone.I don't think there is even a hardspl for that phone? Have you been able to flash a custom winmo rom on it?

I think there were others with the same problem as you. They said the devs told them that there most likely wont be any support for them. You should try to trade it for a normal HD2. There are some people who want the pro.three
Maybe someone will trade...

Ask user xmoo.
He seems to know a lot about that particular proto.
Thread example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708637

Why wouldn't you just get the hd2 in the first place

Yes.
am able to flash normal HTC HD2 ROm. I have tested many such as:
- ChuckyDroidROM
- Energy
- MINi ROm

Is give by my company.

Thanks to xmoo.
After i flash the Radio, it show:
RAM Size : 448
Flash Memory Size : 512 MB
In order to run the startup.txt for android i need to do some changes:
But which to change:
Startup.txt
set ramaddr 0x11800000
set ramsize 0x1e400000
Basically, i need know what to put in there in order to address the RAM correctly.
Any one have idea on this?

I don't think you have a real prototype. Cause the max rom on prototype is 340mb.
Android won't run on the PRO THREE cause of chipset diffrence. Best thing you could do is trade for a real HD2. I got a retail HD2 if you want to trade pm me.

Don't give up.. don't listen to them.. you better give this phone to cotulla for some days and ask him to figure out something and thank him.. or just use IRC and participate with their discussions anyway.. I'm sure there's a way to fix this..
-What about the old Android builds since they use only 252mb of RAM.. maybe try asking marychima for an old kernel
Good luck with your Pro 3.
EDIT: Quote from xmoo "Android did not boot? Before or after the HaReT patch? Cause one of my friends who still has a pro three (under HTC contract) can bootup Android using the patched HaReT" well.. i'm sure there's a way out to get it working.

Thank you. Old Android builds? Do you mean 2.1 or 2.0 android? and may i know were can i get it?

In the early days for HD2 android we only had 320Mb ram working
I would have thought one of those early startup.txt files would give you what you are after. Having said that if Pongster didn't advise this then maybe it's not that simple.
He knows a hello of a lot more than I do about HD2 Android

might want to sticky an android topic, new fresh details as of 28th jan 2010
I´m a fully ignorant in programming but I have an idea on my mind, if the Nexus One have the same Snapdragon platform that Toshiba TG01, could be possible a port of Android 2.1 to the Toshiba TG01 and HTC HD2 also with Snapdragon?
I don´t know if it´s possible or not, but to me would be a dream have the power of Toshiba with Android ... and if it would have Sense UI would be perfect xDD
I saw someone said Android on TG01, don't know if this is true or not.

Oh, can't believe it
Yeah i think the dood who posted that over at gsmarena was just lying.
Out of my own interest I've tried a few builds of Android on the TG01 but havn't got anything to boot up fully yet - i havn't played with startup.txt files or anything yet - i might have another dabble at the weekend if i get abit of time.
I'm not a dev and have minimal knowledge of Linux so theres not too much i can do, but if we could at least get a build to boot and show the Home screen i think would be a great start to springboard development.
There's a lot of builds of Android for HTC devices flying around, it couldnt hurt to try them and see what happens - You cannot harm your device in any way doing this as it isn't flashed to ROM just copy the relevent files to the root of your SD card and then run HARET.EXE application.
I've noticed the boot text is really tiny so it's difficult to read any error messages and such.
If anyone has a go at testing any builds it might be worth posting here with the build and results of any testing.
Also this may well be just a complete waste of time - who knows!
Cheers
Paul

If I recall well some discussions in Android for Diamond threads, if you try to tweak the settings in Haret and give it bad values you can hurt your device or the memory card... So be carefull...
To people not confident in what they are doing : don't do it ! You have been warned

Thanks Howell, im sure people here would be more than aware of any possible risks as always with this sort of stuff but from my understanding this should be safe - the HARET application is simply a bootloader for the Linux kernel - it absolutely cannot write to your phone's system files - it can however write files to your SD but cannot damage it in any way - the generated files can simply be deleted.
There's actually no settings to tweak in HARET either - it simply looks for a startup.txt file, if theres none present you have the option to browse for one - theres nothing else to tweak. The startup.txt file contains the settings that Haret reads - if this isn't correct it simply crashes the device which then requires a soft reset if in fact it doesn't reboot itself.
If someone who actually knows from experience and not 'recalling from another thread' wants to verify any Harm that can be caused with HARET please let us know!
Thanks
Paul
They have port android on HD1. Like it's in WVGA, maybe some crazy guys want to try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621498&highlight=android+HD
Supports Blackstone, Diamond, Diamond 500, Fuze, Raphael, Raphael 800, Rhodium, Tilt 2 & Topaz
if programmers started making a port i would consider getting a tg01 i love the white color, currently i have a htc fuze and am always running android onit.
who are the main android developers on forum?
Just Trying
Just Trying The Hatet way on my phone also trying the htc .cab way
dam they both just fail and i tried all startup.txt files for all phones!!!
It ain't that easy. You need the configure the starup.txt you need to find the Thosiba tg01 id etc etc...
You need a kernell who works with the toshiba hardware...
You need a lot, but it is posible.
i am currently trawling the intraweb looking for a zimage kernal to run my tg01 and trying to do the startup file myself.
slow going...
If u get android working on tg01 please upload the file and give us a link please
ditto, you'd be a legend if you could get it going!!
i think android will be so cool on this device come on android geeks where are you we need your skills show us what you can do do us proud and bring android to tg01 i dare you if you can hell i will even donate let the world know we want android on toshiba tg01 let the android games begin.......... woops sorry if i got abit carried away.
I agree and i would donate to if we could get android on tg01!!!!
CUMON!!!
android 2 be or not 2 be that is the question

Is it possible to run Android on Touch2?
Nope, it needs the HardSPL first and then a custom android rom cooked just for the touch 2.
If I sound like i know what I'm talking about, I dont, but thats what I've been told so far.

I dont think that you are right! You dont need HardSPL for Android not even to change ROM! You can run Android under windows for many devices just not Mega yet! Check this.

Why did you bought HTC Touch2, which is with WinMobile OS, when on other side you could buy HTC Tattoo with Android, and with more hardware, and also little cheaper...
And now, you want to put Android to Touch2...
Why didn't you buy android phone...?
I just don't see point...
How about getting WM on the Tattoo?
These two devices seem as similar as it gets.

The touch 2 is half the price the Magic and the Hero are.
@secosan
Touch2 is about 10 euros more expensive than Tattoo...
@LtBlue
It is nice to have dual boot (WinMO and Android). I have it on my Diamond.
Only thing is that Android will never get 100% ported to Diamond (or other WinMO device). There is always something missing,... and battery life when using WiFI is very short (approx 2 hours). This and other small bugs (plus frequent Android crashing on Diamond) is turning me from android on Diamond...
There is android topic in Diamond forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402002 with more than 6000 replies, and more than 1,600,000 views, but solution for 100% port of Android to Diamond is not yet found.
Honestly, I think it will never will be made... More likely, everyone who desperately want Android on Diamond, will buy Android device, like me... (still need money for that)
Well, I just wanna say to you all: Don't give up with android on Touch2, but most likely it will never work as it work on native Android device.
If you are desperately in need on Android device, then buy one...
And have in mind, that you will get more hardware with Android phone, and it will be cheaper than WinMO device in same rang.
Hope I helped a little...

Nobody here is responsible for your inability to read. Please go to General forum and look for a post named something similar to Debranding X10. It took me less than 30 seconds to read, understand, and download what is needed, and 5 minutes to have an X10 debranded.
Please stop wasting everybody's time.
By the way, nobody's mom is responsible either for your lack of attention when you're playing with a 500$ phone. If you bricked your phone, you did it all by yourself.
Please mods, delete or close this topic as it's going nowhere (abuse reported)

in simple words Ken ... X10I/A doesnt have a custom ROM yet .. its still under R&D by our skiiled mates.. have some paitence and wait and maybe if u dont get burned for all the previous posts.. do keep checking back
I'm glad that he doesn't see it as wasting our time
But the developments are going strong. I even read in a topic about the rooting of the Desire that Modaco will buy an X10 and try to root this (but this is just a rumour)

Since root hasn't been accomplished yet, not much customization of the X10 is possible.......but why would you ever want WM6.5 on an Android phone!?!?!?
Why would you buy an Android phone if you prefer WM......
WM is such an old and crappy OS, and I doubt WM7 will be any better, MS should just get out of the mobile game........

Ya, I've played with WM 6.5 and Sense on my HTC Touch, and I won't disagree that it looks and runs very simliar, but that's just the home screen, underneath it all, it's still WinMo......
I was a die hard WinMo fanboy back when there wasn't too many other options, but I don't think anyone will disagree when I say WinMo doesn't compare to Android.
Does HTC even make WinMo handsets anymore? I think the last one was the Touch Pro 2, and that was a while ago.....
Don't get me wrong I'm not a WinMo hater, but I just think there is way better options out there today.......

Ya, so did I, and win 6.5 on a Touch is not even close to whats on actual devices. The touch version is stripped and is a farcry from what the HD2 winmo offers. It's very different.
However, I also think droid is thee best OS around and love it. It's a shame we are stuck with 1.6 atm and until Q4 according to Sony, but hopefully that will change soon with the talented individuals here at XDA workin hard at getting the x10 rooted.

Buying HTC HD2

Hey XDA users !
I'm planning on buying a new phone. HTC HD2..
I really like the huge screen and the interface so yeah...
Just a few questions ;
- I'm from Israel and I'm gonna buy the Sim Free T-Mobile version... Will I be able to install all of the regular t-mobile ROM updates ?
- Does using themes and stuff can cause problems EVEN if you do it right? What is the risk ?
Thanks in advance !
Regular rom updates, yes..
Theming.. Hmm then you would be better of with custom roms,
in order to install those, you should install HSPL, that is actually a little dangerous, but only if you don't follow the rules. everything is explained very well around here. I did it and once you done that, you can install custom roms made by developers here, or you could even go give android a try yes, with SD card you can run android.
The only real risk is flashing your phone when battery is low, always make sure you flash when around 100% full, so if you do something wrong, you can easily correct your mistake without problems. (because when you **** up HTC won't fix your device) so always read what the threads say. I flashed over 100 roms, never had any problem! so I would say, you get used to it, not really a high risk but you must follow instructions, first time read about 3 hours, after that, it goes fast
oh, welcome btw
Hehe thanks for replying
Pretty sure I got it now..
btw.. just asking.. can I disable the 3G network ?
I really don't wanna spend too much money on internet..
So I prefer using WiFi only for now..
Thanks once again !
EDIT; Oh yeah... another question... what' 'Manila'?
Yes, you can disable 3G or data altogether. I use mine as Wifi only with no problems.
Manila is another name for HTC sense or touchflo3d.
You can currently run windows mobile or android on the HD2. Explore the forum to find out more.
Indeed, I needed that too. Nodata.cab for winmo and in android you can just switch it off 3g and other data.
Manila is the userinterface htc has put over windows mobile and is way better then winmo on its own, that is what much devs modify and tweak to get better roms, customised for everyones needs
Oh wow.
So many names for just an interface lol !
Thanks

How do you know it's possible and not difficult yet? I know cotulla got it to boot using magldr, but past that we don't know if its gonna be possible to actually run it unless we have Microsoft's test versions and jtag flash them to the hd2 ... and even then we don't know if it could be functional enough to make it worthwhile.

I'm pretty sure that what was seen in the Chinese video was one of the testbed hd2s that ms put wp7 on for development. It was definitely an earlier version of the os... and I'm sure it was either flashed on by ms or a jtag was used to flash one of the test versions of wp7 ... either way there is no wp7 that would be possible for one of us to flash.

Did you bother reading my post above? I clearly stated that cotulla got it to boot with magldr, but until today, no one knew if it was operational at all. Now we know that he did get it operational except for the live stuff and app store.
I was just saying that it was not known at the time of the posts if it was gonna be possible to run. Maybe you believed it did, but that doesn't make it fact, and I think peoples questions should be answered with fact. Now that we know it can be somewhat ran with magldr, questions about whether wp7 can be run on hd2 can be answered with a yes.
