[Q] SMS / Textmessages - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I put android (frodo) on my HD2 last weak but now i want to switch to the Desire HD version. the only thing that is stopping me is my Text messages (sms).
I want to know where i can find them on my SDcard and if i also can put them back after installation of the Desire HD version.
( or do i keep the SMS/ text messages when i switch from the frodo build to the desire hd build?)
Best Regards and Already Thanks a lot
JM
Btw i have searched for this for more then an hour so if the answere is already given on the site i applogize.

why not just use one of the many backup programs available such as titanium?

Thanks a lot didnt knew there was a program for that...

For Root use Titanium with SU permission. Works amazing. Just do a batch backup with all apps and data.

[help needed] stock Android apps on Hero

Hi,
In anticipation of the great work our devs are doing, like porting vanilla 1.6 to Hero, I wanted to put some stock Android apps on my Hero.
The reason for this is; I like the original Android UI better.
I made a list of which Android apps I would like to have on my Hero, I will update the startpost with added howto's, for the people interested.
Ofcourse, I am not capable of doing 'real dev' work, if that was the case, I would try to help port 1.6 to the Hero. But this is all I can do at the moment and I hope I can contribute this way to the community.
[done]
-Home app: download "home switcher" from the Market
[to do]
-sms application
-music player
-calendar
-browser
-cellphone /dialer application
-contact list
-camera application
-albums application
I think if we work together to make the original apps work, we have a viable alternative to a 'real vanilla' android Hero rom. Also I could be more easy to just modify the original Hero roms; when the HTC branded 1.6 and 2.0 will come out, we will know how to switch the apps, which I anticipate to be more easy than porting the kernel, and rebuilding everything, etc
The following stage would be to delete the old apps, and to make Android as clean as possible.
Ofcourse, only for those who want it. A lot of people love the Sense UI and the HTC apps, and that is good. Android is about choice
Also, I will look on how to change the apps, just comment if you know if a certain app can be restored, and even better, if you know how to.
Thanks in advance, everybody!

yeah, it is way easier to set this through application preferences in the phones settings, nothing so special about that.

did you check which of these are modified by htc anyway?
tbh i don't really care for a vanilla android, but afaik at least the camera application is the stock android one even in htc roms...
Yes, I checked all those applications:
In the Application properties you can see that it says "hTC Application" after you press the info key.
And in the application list (from the settings menu) it says "HTC corporation" under all the HTC rebranded apps.
edit: the HTC camera application has a different interface
so does anyone know how to get certain original apps back?
How can i remove the sense interface? I'm on modaco 2.8 but don't know for sure what i can delete
Just try that : http://android.modaco.com/content/h...7/13-08-1-0-modaco-hero-rosie-remover/#entry0
(you can download the zip and see in the rep MANIFEST what the update do and do it in adb shell)

this is what happens for the update.zip, just do a nandroid backup and try it?
i read in some forum that the camera app was identical, sry for that. did you find actual differences in the application, besides from the htc strings?

Thanks for what what the update.zip changes.
As you can see, it had widget next to everything, which means it only deletes the widget 'front ends' of these applications. It will not restore the stock android apps, like the browser or the music player.
I am trying to contact some Dream-developers/modders as they appear very capable and knowledgeable. They should be able to help us out.
Again, when we learn how to replace the HTC apps, we can have a 'clean' rom in notime, regardless of the android version. For example, if HTC released 2.0, but with sense and all that, we could just delete that, and change out the applications so we end up with a very fast, and clean rom.
I don't have a lot of faith in people porting over/ compiling a fresh, complete and fully working version for the Hero ..
any suggestions
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the htc apps with the stock google android apps on Hero?
The list in the initial post contains all the apps I need.
I find it strange that this is not possible after such a long time. I would really have my Hero all stock Android. I dont like the HTC approach to things. Why is it so hard to replace the HTC apps with stock Android apps?

Partly because not all the stock apps are that easy to get, partly because HTC has stuck their brand on practically everything, and partly because if you replace one you have to replace others, else the apk signatures (especially with shared users and other dependencies) don't match. And if we're talking about the Sprint Hero, it gets even worse, because HTC had to modify the core framework beyond recognition, so that it would work with CDMA (so it's possible that just grabbing a vanilla apk, resigning it, and throwing it on there wouldn't work anyway).
All that is just conjecture though, as I haven't tried any of it aside from the Calendar app (gave up cause it didn't work immediately and I didn't have the time). Maybe I'll have time to try it this weekend and see how much can be replaced.
Great explanation, thanks. I miss Windows Mobile (Phone, whatever) where things like these were much easier to adjust without all this hassle.
If you manage to pull it of you will be my ...erm... Hero.
Yeah, the best of luck!

Backup app/utility, and gprofile.

Hi, I new to the android platform, but I am a longtime xda user. But I did spend most of my time at ppcgeeks. I'm coming from the pro2 and the titan before that, and both were on winmo.
So here is what I am looking for, I want a spb backup type of app to save all my programs, user info and the like. I would also like a gprofile type of app also. I'm kind of nervous about rooting until I can backup the things I have downloaded and the username/passwords I have saved.
I have searched through the market and google for both of these and couldn't find anything on either of these. I have found everything else I needed, it is just these two that I can't find. Maybe I was searching for the wrong terms or something, so any help would be appreciated.
One last thing, does anybody have any recommendations for websites that stream tv that work with our phones. I can't get atdhe or Justin.tv either one to work. And of course my Hava product doesn't have a working android app. Being the avid college football fan that I am, I need to find a good solution for this too.
Thanks for any and all help
Brandon.
Titanium backup will save your apps and app data system settings Bluetooth and wifi conections and stuff but you need to be rooted to use it.
Sms backup an a restore will back up and restore your text and you don't need root access.
Google backs up you r system setting s and wallpaper if you allow it. It will also redownload you r apps but not the data you had with them.
This all gets restored when you sign in your google account.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Thanks man for the answer. I was beginning to think no one had any answers to help me with.

This would work if I did not need live updates on the text that my work phone is getting. To compound the problem my work cell is the TP2 and my personal phone is a Droid Eris. My work cell has voice and text only so the application would have to utilize text to text feature. I don't think my phone allows mms. Is there any apps out there that can do this?
Still Searching.

[Q] untouched HD2 backup and afterwards Flash Andoid

The one HD2 i have is running hyperdroid GBXV12, which i like very much. but finally i found out that this was an easy job.
Now there's a new job, i'd like to do the same to another HD2, but this time i'd like to have a backup, which would recover the HD2 as it was before, because the guy, who's the owner says, there are oh so special things on it... Is it possible to do that?

Not clear what you want to back up.
You can use PIM back up to back up your sms and contact but not the file in sd.
Or else, you can use Window live to back up (include internet bookmark) and file in the sd.
Cheers

[Q] How To Transfer text Message From iPhone 4 To Samsung Galaxy S3

I have iPhone and a S3. I want to dump my iPhone but i have some imp messages and want to retain to my S3. Is there any working method which will help. Some google techniques don't work. Does anyone can help me out?
Very doable, done it myself when I had to use an iPhone while S3 was on repairs.
Cant remember the exact deatails, but I will describe as best I can, maybe that will help your future goolgle-ing =)
Actually found some of the bookmarks that helped me:
www[dot]mydigitallife[dot]info/move-and-transfer-sms-text-from-iphone-to-android-export-import-msgs/
I used a webservice to convert the file into xml, and then used "SMS backup & restore" on the phone to import from the xml. At that time there where two apps in market with the same (or at least very similar) name, the one to use is developed by Ritesh Sahu.
There is also an androidapp I found called isms2droid that was supposed to take the itunes backup file as input and import messages directly on the phone, but I did not get that to work.
There are also a couple of desktop applications that can help you if you are uncomfortable letting some unknown websservice read all your messages, one I remember is backuptrans, but no guarantee since I never tried them myself.
Well, you can transfer texts message from iPhone to Android with this guide: https://transferphone.com/transfer-iphone-sms-to-android.html
