[Q] Is my phone memory fryed??? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello i just got mine htc hd2 from berlin.
German rom.
Everything was working fine for couple of days untill i conected it via usb cable to my friends pc.
The phone then froze up and i had to do hard reset to get it working again.
Everything was fine untill i again connected it o the same usb port(usb front hub) next day. Phone froze again, and after hard reset pop up message just keeps appearing that my memory is low i that i need to uninstall programs, which i havent installed!
When i go to information about memory it say that my total storage is 56 mb only, and i know it was around 180mb. When i delete few sample pictures the message wont show again.
My question is? Did the stupid usb port burned up my phone, becouse my friend told me that he burned 3 usb devices from that same port !;/
And why was amount of total memory reduced?
Now phone sometimes dont boot at all, i did 5 hard resets and always same error!
Thank you for reading , and sugestion will be usefull.

Try SKTools or cleartemp to clean up your device (with sktools select clean)
This will clean up temporary Internet files, caches and other files )

Solved
I solved my problem, by unlocking the phone, hspl 2.08 , then ran task29 and flashed new rom.
Ty

Main memory from 50+mb now going to 65Mb
My problem for HD2 is each time browse FB video. Rom space will gone.. even i use "ClearTemp" to clean the temporary file problem still the same.
Just format my phone last week ago. From 45+Mb going to 50+mb..... Now is 65Mb+ I think few month later i need reformat again my phone.

Upgrade went wrong

Hello, I upgraded using the kitchen rom to 04.00.16 ENG T-mobile. I really like this new OS, and that Voice Command program is really useful, but I have noticed a few problems that have occurred since installing it.
1) My unit freezes alot requiring a soft reset atleast 1-2 times per day.
2) I can't to seem to keep anymore then 3 programs running at one time. My xda seems to want to automatically close programs when I start opening the 3rd applications.
3) My 256MB SD storage card was spontaneously erased by my xda! And it happened twice! So I am getting pretty fed up. I have already lost alot of information and I don't want to keep doing this.
Does anyone know about these issues? I am beginning to think that 2002 isn't so bad. Atleast it doesn't erase my SD card and freeze all the time. I am trying to give 2003 one more shot so I tried installing it via the exe file, but it says "Error: Get device Data - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. Error getting device data." It also says "Cannot execute the remote communication program. Please make sure that the USB/serial cable is properly connected. " I restarted my labtop twice and did a soft reset on my xda twice as well and it still does it. And I frequently connected and disconnected the usb cable to make sure the computer recoginized it, which is has on a consistent basis. I am beginning to think that I should have just stuck with getting something stable like the special rom edition, but now I can't get this installed due to the errors I have been getting above. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks
Quang
i've had non of those issues with tmobile's 4.01.00 rom
though have a program i love which dont want to run on mw2003

Opera 10 Crash after connecting to PC

Hi
I've installed Opera 10 to my storage card on my HD2 and have noticed that after dis-connecting from my PC (as a disk drive) if I try to launch Opera 10, I get the following error message:
'Opera10-armv4i' is not a valid Pocket PC application.
I have to soft reset to get it running again.
I'm on the stock 1.48 ROM.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's what happens when your device doesn't have access to the storage card and you try and run software installed on it. I had the exact issue earlier tonight, but it was still plugged in at the time - I was being a numpty. As soon as I unplugged it I could run the app.
I take it this issue persists with you after you unplug then? Maybe your device isn't recognising that you've unplugged the cable.
If I try to run the application (Opera) when connected to the PC, its a different message:
The file 'Opera10-armv4i' cannot be opened..........
I've also tried installing directly to the device and get the same error.
That is strange then. A bit obvious, but have you googled the error message to see if it's a common Opera 10 problem?
Yes - tried to Google but nothing!
Well I'm sorry mate, but I can't help. I'm sure someone on here will have some good ideas.
Good luck getting it sorted!
Just replicated the same error on my spare stock 1.43 ROM HD2.
How are ppl installing this cab? Directly from the SD card on the phone or via PC / Activesync?
I'd imagine via a cab. That's where I originally did it from, but I uninstalled it way back. I didn't like the lack of pinch-to-zoom that was in the earlier version, so I just dumped it.
Maybe it's a general Opera issue. It would be interesting to see if any others who have Opera 10 could reproduce the problem.
Interestingly, just connected it to my Macbook as a disk drive and the error hasn't replicated.
Strange......
im getting the same error. DL'ed a fresh copy of Opera 10 Beta 3, removed old version, deleted registry keys and reinstalled onto storage card. Been having this problem for some time now. Strange thing is, I can play my music, navigate through my storage card, and even install the .cab from the storage card, but it doesnt seem to like running Opera anymore. It ran just fine until a few weeks ago.
I had also hooked up my phone to my PC as both a storage device and Active Sync.
I have the same problem.
Installed on HTC TP2 from cab on storage card and now there is an error.
same error
I have the same error. Where any of you able to fix it? if so how? thanks in advance.
I have the same problem! I can just soft reset to get it working again.
Any other good touch browser?
Thanks
I am getting exactly the same problem. I have uninstalled it, downloaded the cab again and installed (copied cab to SD and installed onto SD).
Edit:
After some more routing around it seems that if you connect via USB as a disk drive it causes the problem. A soft reset should solve it. Connecting through Active Sync does not cause this issue. I was copying some files across last night using **** drive access mode (something I rarely do), and I started to see the error message.
Soft reset cures it (I guess until you want to connect using disk drive access again!).
I think this mostly happens when we try to open opera from home screen short cut (on Sense, SPB MS etc.). I often face this issue and when I open it from start menu it works sometimes, otherwise I have to do a soft reset.
Thanks

[Q] problems with USB 'Disk drive' connection to Windows XP

I have raised this before but as yet no one has offered any explanation.
I have search forums but found nothing.
I am running a stock VF UK 1.72 rom on my HD2, which also has a sandisk 8gb card.
For various reason I have hard reset my phone several times since installing this rom.
The previous 1.66 VF UK rom gave me no problems when I hard reset the device.
The problem I have is that sometimes after a hard reset the phone does not recognising the storage card after I have connected the phone to a PC (windows XP) as a ‘Disk drive’ (connecting via active sync works fine) and then disconnected it via the standard remove hardware on the PC.
When I do this the phone does not reload the storage card, I need a soft reset to do this, however this is not consistent, some hard resets works fine others does not.
I now always test this after a reset & prior to reloading any software.
Also does not matter if I reset via active sync (run RUU…Exe on the pc) or hard reset on the phone.
The storage card gives me no other problems.
I would be grateful if any one throw any light on this, as sometimes to get a clean storage card pickup I need to hard reset 2 or 3 times, which is annoying.

[Q] How to retrieve data after a factory reset

Hi all,
I may sound stupid with that title for this thread....I was recording a video and apparently my S3(32GB) went extremely low on storage and konked off. It used to freeze after every boot and just wouldn't move. (the screen along with the h/w buttons)
I tried connecting it to the laptop where I thought I could delete some stuff from the phone through the laptop but it just wasn't recognized. It showed charging but never connected. Tried all the drivers but didnt work. I cleared the cache in the recovery mode, connected in safe mode, download mode etc but the MTP driver never got installed. Eventually I had to do a factory reset. Its working fine now...but obviously I lost all my data...I really need the pics real bad. Is there any way I can retrieve them...? I tried a couple of recovery s/w but with no luck.
I'm using a GT I9300, 4.1.2, XXEMB6. kernel: 3.0.31-1071725.
Please help, those pics are really precious, from my own wedding and honeymoon (before I could take a backup this happened):crying:
No backup no Nandroid then no chance outside of a data recovery service .
See faqs and guides .

So here is what i suggest you do.
Since your phone is working fine now, and it can connect to a pc, try using a recovery software. Try not to fill your phone storage with clumps in the mean time. Nothing is ever really deleted unless it's overwritten by new data.
Try. ht tp :/ /w ww. ea se us .c om /d at ar ec ov er yw iz ar d/ fr ee -d at a- re co ve ry -s of tw ar e. ht m
Since i am new here, the rules doesn't really allow me to post links yet. Remove the spaces in between the link i posted
It used to pull out data from accidentally formatted USB drives, but then i consider my phone an external storage device.
Good luck and let us know
Cant without backup, sorry

I tried various softwares on the phone itself but nothing worked, couldnt run these softwares on my laptop coz the phone is connected to my laptop as a portable device & not a storage device, hence it is not picked up by the software as a drive that i want to scan.
