[Q] Cannot hear caller - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone else seeing an issue where they frequently can't hear the caller when receiving a call, but the other person can hear you? I'm seeing this very often (almost every call I receive, about 7-8/10), not every call, but most. It never happens on outgoing calls. I've rooted and applied the update.zip to fix the GPS. Come to think of it, I've only noticed it since applying the update.zip. Perhaps undoing that would remedy it. Just thought I'd check if anyone else has seen a similar issue

I know it sounds silly, but are you sure your voice call volume is up? Try pressing the volume up button while in a call to see if that works.
I don't always complain, but when I do, I #BlameWes

That was of course, the very first thing I checked. I usually just hang up and immediately call the person back after first explaining that I cannot hear them. Good suggestion, but I'm fairly certain that's not my problem.

Then to be honest, I'm not sure. You may want to try to wipe back to stock, but that is a little extreme.

Just wanted to bump this post, as this happens on almost every call I receive... it's not volume, it's not google voice (which I suspected) because it happens on a direct dial to my cell #... and it happens inconsitently (one call I can't hear, they call back and I can).
The only common denominator is that they can always hear me.
Right now I'm running Trigger 3.2 with Bali 1.8.8uv kernel

Try muting and unmuting when this happens, it may very well solve the issue

Perhaps a problem with your speaker?
Maybe you have an intermittent problem with your speaker? Although it really doesn't sound like it since you can call back immediately and hear them.
Just a thought. I recently had to replace the back speaker in my phone.

If you can hear them through a headset (not BT for testing purposes) then you have an earpiece issue and should have it (the earpiece) replaced. If your problem does not change with or without a headset then it could be a rom or interfering app issue. I would back up and flash back to stock to see if it still happens. That will tell you what to do from there.

titan cant connect a phone call

after i did all the updates. (dcd new rom , 3.27 radio, gps finder, tomtom, vista phone dialer and the htc home plugin) i have trouble making a call.
It will just stay in the dialing screen and bam! call ended......its doing this so opften that i just spent a half hour tring to make a call..........no luck.......
i usually have 3 bars but sometimes 2 but that was always good enought before.
I've had this problem a few times as well.. even more often, I make a call and it calls out, but I have no audio (I can't hear them, they can't hear me). A soft-reset always fixes both these problems.

thats not my prob.....my prob is the call wont get connected period it says dialing then goes straight to call ended.
have you tried a soft reset? that fixes it for me.
sure would be nice to find out what causes it, though.
(I meant that I have both the problem you mention as well as the other variation, each in its turn)

[CM7/CM9] Mute/Unmute hacked Phone APK

OUTDATED: Tunnel voice has been fixed in the latest CM7 and CM9 nightlies.
Hope we can find better fix to this in future.
Using the CM7 version with makelegs Kang.
Pushed with Root Explorer (I'm at work and don't have a cable to use ADB).
Phone kept FCing so I:
1. Rebooted
2. Fixed permissions with Root Explorer
3. Rebooted again to recovery and wiped cache and dalvik
Seems to be working so far. I will report back in a few days.
The CM7 version is not working.
I have received several calls and the caller says I sound like I'm in a tunnel. If I mute and then unmute after answering the call, the problem immediately clears up. This leads me to believe that the hacked phone is not properly muting and unmuting.
I will try to reproduce it and get a logcat.
Logcat coming soon...

Me too bro... me too.
I think a commit from before, merging audio HAL fixes in, was supposed to fix it, but part of that got reverted because it broke some devices on some carriers.
Also, apparently, this problem happens on other devices as-well (I'm guessing just Aries devices)

If it doesn't have the mute/unmute fix, others will confirm and I'll clean compile a new one.
So everyone else, please post if this fixes your problem.

It doesn't seem to have the fix (or its not working) because if I manually mute then unmute after receiving a call the tunnel voice immediately goes away.

I'll clean compile CM7 with it and pull it and upload it tonight then.
Here are two logs. Both calls had the tunnel voice until I manually muted and unmuted.

Sorry they are so long. I started recording just before the call and ended recording after ending the call, but I wasn't sure what may be useful so I didn't filter anything out.
V2 is up (just a clean recompile), try that.
Is this useful for aokp if people face mute unmute issues

I'll try it out and report back. Thanks again!
Here are my findings:
I am running CM7.2.0-RC1-vibrantmtd-KANG-signed.02282012-2202
Using the stock phone:
For every call (25 of 25) I receive from my mother, she said I sound like I'm far away and in a tunnel.
If I manually mute and unmute, the "tunnel" voice immediately goes away.
Using the hacked v2 phone:
5 of 8 calls received from my mother were clear with no tunnel voice
3 of 8 calls received from my mother had the tunnel voice, but after I manually muted and unmuted, the "tunnel" voice immediately went away.
It seems this hacked phone helps, but does not fully solve the problem.
I will continue to run it for several more days to gather some data from other callers. I use my mother as a base because most calls I receive from her have the tunnel voice bug.

Hahaha. The fix is only in the CDMA portion of the handleCallKey function... (even in the original fix, so it wasn't just my fault! Even though I manually added the fix )
I'll recompile AGAIN with it also in GSM today and re-upload. Sorry 'bout that.

The apk may not be, because it's based on CM9, but you can use the source of the fix, but you need to put it in the GSM section aswell as the original fix only has it in CDMA.

Thanks, I'll let you know
Still not working.
I called my phone from my wife's phone many times and this is what I've experienced and learned:
1. The tunnel voice does not start until the caller speaks (e.g. after my CM7 phone receives a voice signal from the caller, the caller starts hearing a tunnel voice). When I called my phone and had my wife start talking everything was clear until I said something (I was on her phone), then the tunnel voice started.
2. If I manually mute and unmute my phone immediately after answering a call and before speaking, the entire call is clear, no tunnel voice.
Maybe the mute and unmute functions that Nelson used are incorrect or in the wrong location?

[Q] minor problem after answering calls

So here it is: I receive a call. The phone acts like it should. If I answer very quick I hear a robot from the future telling me to kill all the monkeyz from the mars(I know they are up there) or it just may be the other persons voice but with a robotic/fuzzy/50% downloaded video file/noisy/electric touch; the other persons hears me exactly the same. If I let it ring for 4-5 seconds everything is ok. I can live with this but I have to ask: does anyone else have this problem?
I've encountered it on 2.3.3,2.3.4, ICS and other custom roms.

[Q] Google Now Not Recognising?

Anybody else having issues with Google Now's voice feature since today? When I tap the mic button and start speaking, my phone doesn't seem to register that I've said something into the mic.
The ring around the mic icon pulsates as I speak, so it seems like it hears what I'm saying, but nothing happens after that. No confirmation "tone" to register I've said something. It just asks me to tap the mic and speak again.
I know it's not an issue with my mic, as I've made 3-4 calls with no issues today too.
Anyone else experience this? Any help appreciated
***SOLVED***
Never mind all sorted. Uninstalled then reinstalled the latest update and all is good now

[Q] Help! No voice call + GPS can't get fix

I just replaced my Verizon S4's camera module. Afterwards no more voice calls. However LTE data and text both work fine. I can also see the signal bars and they are just as strong as before. If I make a call no dial tone no sound but it will say "dialing..." for several seconds before "hanging up". No calls are actually sent to other phones. When someone calls it, phone won't react at all. It's as if the voice call feature is completely gone. Yet sms and data are both fine. Speaker phone, headphone, microphone and vibration also work. Also GPS won't get a fix now - it will keep searching forever until I turn it off. I wonder if it's related to the no-call issue? What part(s) did I accidentally break during the repair process? If I knew what went wrong I can probably find replacement for it. So far everything else works. Please help!
