I made this one after the update: Here
It's rooted. No responsibility.
Extract into your clockwork backup folder, and restore from Rom Manager.

[Q] Got a replacement Vibrant. Can I just make a Nandroid backup on old phone...

So I got a replacement Vibrant from T-mo. I already rooted it, and now I am trying to figure out the easiest way to trasnser everything from my old phone (running Bionix, a 2.2 rom) to the new phone which is running JI6 2.1.
I already rooted and installed clockwork on the replacement. Can I just make a nandoid backup on the old phone, running bionix, and transer that nandroid backup to the new replacement phone running stock 2.1 and do a nandroid restore?
If I remember correctly, nandroid does not backup/restore the kernel...So should I just flash a 2.2 kernel on the new phone, then while still in recovery restore the nandroid backup from the old phone?
This seems like the easiest way to get the new replacement running like the old one.
Any help is appreciated
Edit- also, if I restore the nandroid, it should do my photos and videos too?
Yes. Just move your backup folder with the saved file into your clockwork mod folder inside your phone then you can run restore your old settings.
Thanks for the response. Regarding the kernel from current 2.1 and doing a nandroid restore to 2.2, do I need to flash a 2.2 kernel before the nandroid restore?

Nandroid does not restore your kernel. I would dl your kernel, put it in root of your sd,. Put the nandroid on the sdcard. Reboot into recovery, wipe, restore nandroid, clear cache, fix permissions, flash kernel. Reboot, let phone sit for 10mins, reboot, use as normal.
Edit.
Nandroid will only restore system, apps and app data. Pics and personal address content will not be included. For a full transfer you will need to copy your entire old sdcard to the new one... on the old phone - make Nandroid, copy entire sdcard to new phone, add kernel to the new sdcard and follow instructions above.
I tried copying my pics over and it made a folder in gallery with like 2100 thumbnails... I only have about 200 pics... its weird, looks like it just keeps repeating the pics over and over

That is strange. Did you copy the old sdcard to your computer first, do you still have a copy there, What does the backup folder contain?
Or it might be quicker just to mount the new sdcard, nuke the thumbnails and be done with it.

Switching ROMs

Just wondering......
I'm on simply honey 5.1 and have been updating with it's no wipe script. I'm curious in trying MIUI and Cm7. I just wanna know if I could restore with a cwm backup, and get ask my apps back without having to do a titanium backup.
thanks!

I believe you can but you if you go to CM7 or MIUI, you will have to odin back to stock if you want to revert to anything else. But from there you won't be able to just restore your CWM backup because CWM does not backup the kernel. Best thing to do then is to flash any GB rom to get back to GB kernel. Then you can restore your CWM backup.
Anyone correct me if this is not the case.
But wool all of my market apps still be installed thru the cwm restore? Even if the ROM I switch to wipes?

Yeah the CWM backup backs up your current config exactly as it is (*except the kernel). So if you end up restoring, it should be right back to the way it was when you backed up.

Use titanium backup *Needs root
make a backup of your User App
Reflash phone with same firmware
root phone
Install Titanium Backup and restore files
Make a backup from clockwork recovery, then flash a rom, and you will be able to restore things of the recovery made with clockwork from titanium backup pro or appextractor app
Can we just make backup with CWM Recovery, reflash the ROM, restore the backup with CWM Recovery?

[Q] Nandroid restore with DZK's bootstrap

Hey can I use dragonzkiller's bootstrap to restore a nandroid backup I did before flashing CM7? There is an app with data in it I need to get to. I tried backing it up, but now in CM7 it won't find the backup file to restore even if I put it in the folder with it. The nandroid is for rooted 2.3.4 stock.

First off, everything that is nandroided goes in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup (depending on whether you stored it on the external sdcard).
If you put it on the internal, then it would be in /emmc/clockworkmod/backup
If you just want the one app, you can use Titanium Backup to extract it from the nandroid backup. I think you have to have the pro version though.
There are some free programs that will extract from a nandroid backup. App Extractor is a free app that will do this as well. You can get it at the Android Market at https://market.android.com/details?...wxLDEsImNvbS5oYW5keWFuZHkuYXBwZXh0cmFjdG9yIl0.

You can use titanium pro (paid version) to restore an app with data. I did this successfully but did have one problem. After restoring, the app would not run. I moved it from sd card to internal and back to sdcard and it's worked perfectly.

Glad it worked for you. I didn't want to see you have to nandroid it all back to get it for just one app.
AppExtractor and TiBu have saved me more than once.

[Q] How do you make a full flashable backup?

I have run a search and surprisingly did not find my particular question..
How do I make a backup (image?) of my phone as it stands now...
I flashed a rom, everything is working to my liking and have backed up all my apps and settings via TB.
Is it possible to have a backup sitting on my PC that I can just flash with Odin or CWM that will restore my phone to how it is right now? Similar to a PC image?
Thanks in advance!

Just make a nandroid backup using cwm and copy those backup files located in "clockworkmod " folder in SD card to your PC. Whenever you need to restore it back just copy back the files to.the same location and restore it via cwm.
