[Q] Sudden Reduction in Battery Life - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

My battery life was very good in Mini. I used the phone for normal talking (around 30 mins) and 3-4 hrs of GPRS and battery wwas kept around 20-30% at
10PM after fully charged at 7AM. At that time the battery usage status showed something like this.
Display -40-50%
Android System 10%
Cell Standby 2-5%
Phone Idle 2-5%
Others (not remebering)-the remaining
Suddenly two days ago my battery started dischrging very fast and my full charge at 7AM came to zero at 4.30PM with similar use as stated above. But this time the battery usage shows something like this and consumption always remains highest by phone idle & cell standby parameters.
Phone Idle 40%
Cell Standby 30%
Android System 8%
Display 20%
Others - remaining
Now, my battery is draining a lot faster than it ever had two days back.
My battery had consistently been draining at around 1% per hour idle until today. Now I'm seeing it drop 5% in LESS than an hour while idle (idle meaning the screen shuts off and I don't use it).
So my question is, what do Cell Standby and Phone Idle mean? Previously they had both been 2-5% and my idle battery use was excellent. But today they both shot up to the 30-50% range and I'm thinking this may be the cause for the excessive battery drain even while the phone is sleeping.
I have not changed anything during these two days. But again to be sure I "Factory Reset" the phone and reinstalled all the software again but found the problem persisting. Moreover, during my travel to office (which takes about two hours) I find battery drain is minimum and same as my earlier days, i.e., it drains very slowly but once I enter my office hall the rate of drainage increases, But previously in the hall also the drainage rate was very low.
My queston is what may be the cause of this?
The only change which I feel is deterioration is signal level because the calls now frequently gets disrupted which was not the case earlier. Can this be the only cause for such high battery drainage ?
An exactly similar experience can be found in some other blog whose link is below ( for reference only)

Anticipating some advice/solution for improvement from the geeks here.
Thanks

i noticed i had the same issue whenever i installed some apps from the market...i noticed in particular a data counter to screen my phone bills and Quick Profiles.
So i suggest to think abotu the last installed apps and try to remove them one by one until you find the guilty one.
Remember afer uninstall to reboot your phone or you won't notice any difference

Have you recently rooted the phone? When I did mine I found there was a shell process left running that was eating battery (but doesn't show in the battery info screen) - Turning off and on again sorted that out

Thanks for reply. I will try your advices. But today I morning I switched off my charging at 4.45 AM and now at 6.37AM I am seeing my battery at 99% ot bad. Let me see throughout the day.

Even i am experiencing this problem
Phone Idle is 59% and Cell standby 37% for me?
Now i have removed all task managers and Info apps
lets see what happens to the battery life

@acemadmav
Your advise helped me to track my problem. I also use a Data Tracker software which was refreshed at 2 min and was the cause of battery drain. Now I have set it to 30 mins and my phone is back to full battery strength. Discharge started at 7.30AM after full charge. Attended not less than 45 mins of call, an hour of GPRS and I am still at 50% at 10PM.
@tejagamer
My Phone idle & Cell Standby is still high at 30% and 25% respectively. I googled about this and found that "Phone Idle" is the state when phone uses minimum battery required to keep the electronics of the phone alive and "Cell Standby" is battery consumed for communicating with cell towers in standby mode. Finally, when battery consumption is ok the percentage used by Phone Idle & Cell Standby doesn't matter.
Thanks

[Q] Standby / Airplane mode battery consumption

I have been using X10 mini pro since the past 3 weeks.
After a few days of discharging cycles, I see a improvement in battery performance. I've already read about the tips section on battery improvement.
I manage to get about 11-12 hours of standby with wi-fi/bluetooth/background data off (No Music, no videos, screen off 90% of time). Screen timeout is set to 30 secs.
I have not installed any other software apart from Helix launcher & Advanced Task Killer.
I observed that when the cellphone is left in Airplane mode for over 10 hours, battery depletes by just 1-2 %.
However, if I leave the cellphone in GSM only mode, the battery loses from 100% to 10% in just about 9 hours with display set to lowest brightness
The signal strength is always between -57dbm to -90 dbm in my area.
I'm not able to understand what is eating up the battery.
Initially I suspected that I'm not on the latest firmware which could be using a lot of battery on cell standby. But I see that the build number is 1.1.A.0.8
Anyone thinks that this could be a GSM service provider issue?
When is the next firmware update coming?

That is true, I have experienced this. It is not the Service Provider issue, it is something related to signal reception. If you are on call for 1 Hr battery, drains by 20-30%, this is too much.
The worst part is short duration calls, everytime you call some one, battery reduces by 1-5%. To make matter even worse, you cannot replace the battery

battery problem awake while phone is idle

So I have narrowed down why my battery dies even when I'm not using my phone...for some reason when I look at the stats under battery usage, the battery seems to be awake almost 60 to 70 percent of the time, EVEN when I'm not using the phone...my battery lasted a total of 15 hours...I made a 20 minute phone call and screen usage was 25 minutes on lowest settings....4g was on wifi was on...automatic background data was off...gps on....everything else was off....why is the phone waking when it is not being used???? any way to find out?

Have you tried restarting your phone and then tracking the battery usage?
Just my .02 here, I installed Earth HD live wallpaper and the phone went crazy. I keep it plugged into my laptop during the day and noticed that the battery was slowly draining instead of maintaining, not much only a couple of percent. Toward the end of the day I noticed the the battery charge was in the 50% range and dropping fast, you could see the go down so I did a reboot and the charge came back at 4%. So you may want to look at what you have installed and try removing apps that may cause issues. I removed the app and now no problems, I'm also using Beastmod.

[Q] Battery Drain

My x10 is losing all of its juice in maximum of 5 hours , I've bought a new battery from SE showroom but the brand new battery is also giving me the same bitter taste ..... I have tried various ROMs and presently flashed my fave ROM DONUT HD2 ROM based on GB......I also flashed stock GB 2.3 with new batterty but the same battery issue is noticed.
Its music port also stopped working from the day im experiencing this battery issue.
I calibrated the batteries , but also NO use.
In battery stats it shows that the maximum battery consumption is for Display and Cell Standbuy. NOW I have no idea what the hell is my phone problem , but i love it , so wanna fix it ANYWAY.
Please suggest me your valuable ideas.

What screen display timeout do you have? I have mine set to 2minutes.
What screen brightness do you have? I have mine set to the lowest setting as I'm indoors mostly.
However, it doesn't really matter if you have a short screen timeout.
Do you have 3G mobile data, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and Google Maps with Latitude/location tracking all turned on?
The battery can be drained in low/poor mobile cell areas.
The phone boosts the receiver to get a signal which all takes power.
If you have no or very poor 3G mobile data signal, it'd be best to disable 3G mobile data when in poor signal area(s).
In the battery History display (Settings->About->battery use), tap on the graph to display battery status.
This will show you the signal strength of the battery over the time from the last full charge.
If the phone signal strength indicates red/yellowish that's not good, dark grey/green is good.
A new battery should be charged to 100% and left to continue charging for approx 8-12 hours.
The charging cuts out at 100% and then drops back to ~93% and then charges again.
Leaving it for 8-12 hours on the first 4-5 charges help the battery find it's maximum charge.
Any new battery may not provide it's maximum charge for the first 4-5 charges.
I found Google Play Store GSam Battery Monitor a very good indicator of process and battery usage. Also shows percentage of cell signal strength state.
Look for "View time held awake" and "View number of times waking device" in the applications section.
If you have root access, you can run something like Google Play Store SetCPU and have a screen-off profile which can under-clock the CPU when the screen is not on. Using a Powersave Governor can massively improve battery life when the phone is in standby state and/or not in use.
You can use Google Play Store CPU Spy Plus to verify that when the screen is off the phone is going into 'deep sleep' for most of the time.
I get approx 60-70% of the time spent in 'Deep Sleep'.
I know on my 1800mAh battery in my XPERIA X10i gets 3hrs 17mins when CPU is at 100% and screen on 100% brightness, with 19% of the battery still left.
In 'normal' operation I get from 1 - 5 days of battery life.
I have had 10 days when I didn't use the phone, with WiFi forced active at 8:00am once a day and email(5 accounts), whatsApp and weather widget active.
In 24hr period when not using my phone, it uses approx 7-9% of battery(1800mAh).
should CPU rate decreased????
THANKS for your REPLY
I set my Network Mode to ONLY GSM , switched OFF location services (GPS,Maps,G altitude, etc etc) and my screen Brightness is ZERO , time out is 30 seconds. And i've been living in the same place since 3 years and it is not the problem of the network.
From your suggestions it is clear that , we (x10 users) should not use x10's at 100% CPU.I should NOW try this.
I got a 1500mAh battery in the box when I bought my x10 and the battery I bought when i messed up with old battery (I thought that the old one is damaged) ) was also a same 1500mAh battery.
The apps(EXCEPT GSAM battery Monitor) you have suggested me were also used by me in the past and Im actually fedup with the battery.
Now i will try to underclock the CPU rates at screen OFF mode and use GSAM battery monitor App.
ONCE AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.

The 100% CPU was an AnTuTu battery stress test know as Google Play Store AnTuTu Tester
This tests the battery use from 100% down to ~20%, calculating how long it would last.
Using a 1500mAh battery the AnTuTu Tester should return approx 2hrs 45mins on a battery operating at the same capacity as my 1800mAh battery.
I still really enjoy my XPERIA X10i and use it daily, probably helped by the fact I have a 64GB SanDisk Ultra card in it.

[Q] cell standby consuming battery in a tablet

After spending a few hours with the Lava Xtron+, I noticed that the battery was diving downwards at a ridiculous rate. This kind of usage was very strange, so I opened the battery stats page only to find that Cell standby had consumed nearly 65% of the battery. This tablet DOES NOT have any radio cells , even after turning on airplane mode it is consuming huge amount of battery, how to fix it?..Please read this review, this has addressed his issue

Mate 20 Pro Battery Draining Issue

Hi, I found out that my Mate 20 Pro batteey isn't as solid as advertised. The battery keep draining in standby mode. Yesterday, it dropped 9% in 8 hours of standby mode with WiFi on. However, the first few days the battery is very great but after 10 days of usage the battery performance dropped a lot ?. May I know is the AI allocation of power based on my usage pattern or the battery is faulty?
Looks like a rogue app...check the battery usage stats or install AccuBatttery to get full details.
Might have to restart in Safe mode to confirm it's an app.
Standby with Wi-Fi should be below 1%/hr unless some background activity goes nuts on you.
Try restarting the phone, i had the issue at some point, the switch from auto app management to manual, keeping just the apps i want. After the recent update(153) i switched back to auto. There is some issue with the app management, cause sometimes i lose just 1-2% of battery during the night, but sometimes 5-7%. Now i get an avarage of 36h+ of usage, and if not charging at 30-40% i could get more.
From brand new, my mate 20 pro drains about 12-13% if left overnight, also thought that was pretty bad
