[Q] Hero back from repair - Which root method to use? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently received my phone back from HTC repair. It's an unbranded hero, the software on it is :
Firmware v : 2.1-update1
Baseband 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.11
Software : 3.32.405.1
It wants me to download the following OTA update: "system upgrade 3.32.405.2 (5.87mb)"
I had no problems rooting the phone the long way from 1.5 when I first got it, but after I sent it back to htc the first time (unresponsive lower touchscreen) I tried to use the oneclick root method unsuccessfuly (it said root successful but it said permission denied when I typed "su" etc), and then the phone became essentially bricked when I allowed it to dl the OTA update. I don't want to make the same mistake again!
Which root method would you guys recommend I use this time?
Many thanks!

1click root mate it works on all versions of the hero

You can also follow this guide to root it manually.
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...o-Root-The-2.1-RUU-or-OTA-Update-For-The-Hero

I think I'd prefer to do something other than the 1 click root after what happened last time!
The villain method says its for 2.1 ROM RUU - is this what they will have used at the repair centre? Does it tie in with the sotware version I posted in the OP? Or should I use an RUU and then follow the method to be sure?
I've been without my phone for 7 weeks now, just don't want to mess it up again! But equally I dont want to be stuck on an unrooted phone

I believe Unrevoked works very well for extremely easy Hero rooting? Not used it myself but heard good things.

Moved to Q&A as not development

Im in the same boat as you. when my phone was returned it was
Firmware v : 2.1-update1
Baseband 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.11
Software : 3.32.405.2
Looking to root now. Cant decide on a rom or a method. Any other suggestions?

This root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726118) is the one I prefer (yes, I posted it, but it seems to be easiest method if you have ADB set up, or follow the guide to enable it)

Rooted as per pulser's guide, all is good
FYI iknorr I DID NOT install the OTA update I mentioned in my OP
Many many thanks to pulser, the rest of the villain guys for the roms, and to btdag for his guide on taming adb on windows 7

thanks for the suggestion & info...
Ill give it a go tommorrow i think. Ill post an update.

I used pulsers method dude and its been cool since. It might take 3-4 times to take so make sure your chosen Rom is on SD ready first.

sadly SEUS tells me any time i connect to it ..that i have latest update !!!
From what you have said it seems the 2.1 isnt out on your network, I'm going to assume your phone is branded. By that i mean, locked to your provider with a customised firmware. If you cannot wait i suggest rooting and debranding, i believe you can visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793 . thats the one i used as i am also rather noobish, however its easy to follow and will flash 2.1 on your phone.
Hope this helps
@puremods -
from your arc unlock screen -
press the following keys
Menu back back menu
back menu menu back
go into the service info menu..
go into model info..
tell us what it says in there...
^ guy above me, i have the same problem im not very tech savvy but i did the secret menu thing and it said
country: Singapore
Carrier: Singtel
anyway, Im on T-Mobile USA, and i heard there is update out (2.1) in Singapore, but my phone says its up to date its still on 020 firmware.
is there a way to update to 2.1 without rooting, i heard of the flash tool but the guy didn't give very clear instructions.
so if someone can link me to that thread and also give me VERY detailed instructions it would be greatly appreciated.
i worked in a college cafeteria for a year just to save up enough money for my x10 and im not going to risk bricking it by doing something wrong
Mine says
Model x10i
Country: Global Generic
Brand: Generic
Which method would be best for me to upgrade? Using SEUS doesnt work, when i boot it in flash mode and press enter on the program, nothing downloads.
Sorry for posting in your thread, i just dont want to open another one.
@vengeance1990
Thanx for helping ...i hope if this link will help ...but still don't know which file i have to download
cause my experience in phone softwares and programming is little
@ im_iceman : this sequence is not working
i did it many times and still nothing
@ im_iceman:
sorry it works
model info is
Model:x10i
Country: Mena Arabic (b)
Brand customized
and if u want the software info tell me too
Ok.. unless you want to wait for your official f/w to be released you'll need to root (suggest downloading the oneclick root app - This is the simplest as it does exactly what it says on the tin!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7913568&postcount=338
install the apk file on your phone and run it...
Then follow the instructions here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828163
Job done.

Sounds like your phone is branded to singtel.. so like puremoods you'll either need to wait, or follow the instructions I gave to him...

Official V10h rom.

I've just downloaded and installed the official rom V10H using the LG mobile support tool.
Android ver: 2.2.2
Build date: FEB-23-2011
The phone feels way faster now and boot up needs less time.
Also some problems with USB connection are now corrected and LG PC Suite now works flawlesly with the phone.
Has anybody else installed this rom?
Me (my Light ROM). The only problem I can find is me not being able to play "The Impossible Game". The phone panics and then restarts Tried this with two builds: One Vodafone branded and one unbranded KDZ for Germany.
So yep, I think this is a 2.2.2 problem.
Other than that, it's perfectly fine. So far.
Hey. Is that OPEN EUROPIAN 10H. I wanted to download that one and flash it but on LG site it says forbiden and trough LG Update all i can do is flash 10E German version becaouse my phone is for German market. Is touch Lag fixed on 10h?
No it isn't .
able to root using z4root or other?
I dont think so. This root bug is fixed from 2.2.1
I do the v10h upgrade from the officiallg site, but its unable to make root the phone with superoneclick.
The process stop in a loop of the psneuter component. Can anyone to make the phone root with other way?

The German unbranded version before that was 10a, right? Is it normal for the German firmware to revert to German language everytime you restart the phone? This is highly annoying, I like my phones in English.
"The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update."
version : v10f
where, how i cen get v10h ?
In Italy today we got v10e. I'm wondering if in different countries there are different versions for the same changelog...
Today I also received an update message for version 10H. Currently I am running V10B.
In this topic I read that after the upgrade rooting will not be possible any more. Is that correct? Or are there ways to root the phone, even after the upgrade to V10H? And what about custom roms, can they still be installed after the upgrade to version 10H?
Sorry for my "dumb" questions, I am new to Android, but learning
Anyone knows the changelogs of the differents version?
LG is making a mess..
I have upgraded my p500 to 2.2.2 and it's awesome. Touch became more sensible and responsive. Crash count of LG preloaded applications decreased seamlessly. 2.2.1 from LG was too buggy.

How to upgrade to 2.3.3??? Plz help

Hi..
I m heaving x10i with t-mobile, how can i upgrade to 2.3.3?
Please help.....m new to xda..
Thanks in advance.....
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
You may be new to XDA but at least you posted your question in the right place. A lot of XDAers who behave and sound like they know what they are doing, don't even follow this rule. So don't worry!
Basically there are 2 ways to upgrade to 2.3.3. One is (1) to upgrade through PC Companion, and the other is (2) to flash pre-rooted version of the ROM.
If you have never used a flashtool or never flashed a ROM before, you should probably go the route (1). All you have to do is to install the PC Companion and connect your X10i to the PC. But you have to wait until an update becomes available for your version of installed 2.1 firmware. Here is something you should take a look at. If you happen to be in the legion where no official 2.3.3 is unavailable now, you may still be able to upgrade anyway if you know how to edit build.prop.
Going through the route (2) is a little more complex than (1) but if you read this or/and this carefully it shouldn't be that difficult.
model no x10i
fw version 2.1-update 1
bb version 2.1.54
kernel version 2.6.29 [email protected]#1
build no 2.1.A.0.435
what should i do to update?
Download the flash tool.
Doiwnload the firmware.
Flash.

[Q] Root gone with ICS upgrade

Hi, apologies if this has been covered but i couldn't find anything specific on this.
I got the ICS 4.0.3 upgrade yesterday for my S2, but my root access seems to have disappeared (upgrade was the official Voda UK upgrade via Kies). I originally followed the instructions on this forum to root the phone a few months ago. Titanium backup has stopped working
Presumably I need to re-root? If so, should I follow the identical instructions which I used for rooting my 2.3.5 version?
Cheers
Wat lp version is it? Just install cf root kernel and u should be fine. Or speed mod. Up to you.
Yes the same instructions, just make sure you root using a cf-root kernel for ICS

Not sure which L9 P768 I have?

Hi there,
I just got my L9 yesterday. ITS AWESOME!
I would like to root it, but I don't know how to identify which version I have.
I'm not sure which county it came from, I ordered it from mobicity and they import from many places. The box has Asian symbols on it, I've used Google and "Quick Translator" on the box text and I think its Chinese. Also the box says production date: 01/2013. I have used cmahendra's ROM Linker - Option B and that said the latest firmware for my phone is V10B, but I have V10C running.
Under 'Software Information' it says:
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband Version: L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1230.00
Kernel Version: 3.0.21
Build Number: IMM76L
Software Version: P76810c-466-92
If anyone could help me identify the phone, that would be great, then I can root and provide a CWM backup for this thread
Thanks

Also, I'm not sure which county it came from. I ordered it from mobicity and they import from many places. Is there anyway of checking by looking at a code on the box or on the phone? The box has Asian symbols on it, I'm not sure which language though.

If you have V10C then you can root it with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990705
It's known to work with P768 V10A-C. For rooting you don't need to flash kdz.
For me my software information show P768f10d-THA-XX which come from Thailand. Don't know which country your stock rom on but you can flash any P768 kdz, it not brick your phone.
Re: Not sure which KDZ I need
Thanks for the reply, I only looked at the lelus root method as it says it works with all versions.
I'll use the method you listed and hopefully I'll be rooted and ready to put CWM on.
This phone is pretty new, the production date says 01/13 so it's only about a month old. Maybe it's korean and it came straight from LG?
EDIT: Root didnt work with that method

If not confident, then don't try. Staying with stock is not bad.

Please try to use LG Support Tool. It can read information from phone. Just run and connect your phone in LG Software mode. I can't remember that this software install with PC Suite or I download from LG support web. This is what I got
