[Q] Alternative Lock Screen? - Wildfire Themes and Apps

Hi, just wondering if there was a good custom lock screen I could install on my wildfire. I'm using a custom ROM with all the Sense UI junk removed, and I'm sort of getting bored with the "vanilla" lock screen.
I tried Lock Go but it always asks for my default home option when I press the home button. The others I saw are paid apps and I can't pay until they add paypal support, or I get a credit card.
Thanks in advance

Try searching for an app called "GOTO", you might like it..

Looks like a paid app. Can't buy it yet until I get my credit card but also heard that goto Doesn't always work so well.

Download Lock 2.0 and get a skin.
Edit xml file to move "slide to unlock" about 40 pixels up. Works fine

Where do I find the xml file? I'll have to do it later when I have time to connect the phone. I can't find anything in ES Explorer.

Widget Locker = win.

You download skins to Lock 2.0 (here) wich is basically a .zip with a couple of files inside.
You need to move <slider_backgrounds> and <slider_texts> upwards so edit:
Code:
<slider_text name="Default" textSize="18" fontFileName="" posX = "100" posY = "110"
textColor="#ffffffff" text="slide to unlock" />
and
<slider_background name="Default" imageFilename="slider_background.png" posY = "384" />
to something like (I dont remember exactly offset)
Code:
<slider_text name="Default" textSize="18" fontFileName="" posX = "100" posY = "70"
textColor="#ffffffff" text="slide to rock!" />
and
<slider_background name="Default" imageFilename="slider_background.png" posY = "344" />
Put skin.xml back to .zip file and choose install skin from Sdcard (You need crappy file manager too..), and you are all set!

Thanks so much! They look really good. maybe some a little too iPhoney, but I managed to get the slider in position with a slick AlienWare theme. I downloaded a bunch so I'll play around with them on the weekend and buy the full app as soon as I can.

Goto never worked properly for me. I always ended up with two lockscreens when I used it. One from Goto, and the stock lock screen.

Im not 100% sure but isnt there a way to make the sense lockscreen to be canceled?

I'm using something called screen suite, works great. I've always had problems with other lock apps giving me 2 lock screens. This is the first one that works 100%

I'be searched the market for "screen suite" but didn't find anything . Is it a pay only app?

Worked fine! The Lockscreen is easy to enable and disable, only thing that annoys me is if I have the phone in a offmode, (have pushed the powerbutton, to sleep) then if I got an sms or so, it unlocks by itself. I want it to unlock by pressing the powerbutton only, not that it unlocks itself by sms or something.

how do you install skin from sd card?

[HOW TO] Disable lock screen (solution)

Ever since I got my Atrix I've been searching for a way disable this annoying lock-screen, but couldn't find any good way. There is an app "no lock" witch worked somewhat ok, but had some quirks here and there.
Today I accidentally stumbled upon a key in a database that allow disable it once and for all.
You'll need SQLite Editor (or if you know how to manually write database queries...)
open com.motorola.android.providers.settings -> settings.db -> settings
Search for screen_lock and change value from 1 to 0
Reboot and enjoy Atrix with no lock screen whatsoever.
where exactly is that file located? my SQLlite editor doesnt see it....
Good find... actually works. My widgets didn't quite no what to think, since a good part of them usually load behind the scenes... bogged down the launcher initially, but caught back up without any problems. Widget locker still works too.
You should post this in the general section.

Is that in GB 2.3.4? In stock 2.2.1 sqlite editor shows it as com.motorola.android.providers.settings
theres an app call "battery indicator pro" which can disable lock screen very well. i have it disable my Atrix's lock screen by accident and it worked great.

[info]How to enable AOSP lockscreen

I'm sure that a lot of you know this already, and also that most of you enjoy the Sense 3.0 lockscreen. However, in case any of you wanted the simplicity of the AOSP lockscreen, here is a simple way to do it. With the Evo 4G it was the same way, but you needed to use the AOSP clock for the alarm to function properly. So far I've had no issues with it here, I'm able to unlock the screen and click dismiss, and the alarm turns off. So I've had no problems using it yet. If you have a screen lock or whatever, you'll need to enter it to unlock before being able to dismiss. That is good, to ensure you're really awake, lol.
Using Root Explorer or any other root level file manager, such as ES File Explorer, navigate to the /system/app folder. Scroll down to HtcLockScreen.apk, and rename it to HtcLockScreen.bak (I prefer to rename change the file extension to .bak so the app disables, in case I choose to go back to it, it's as simple as changing it back to .apk and rebooting). Once the HTC lockscreen is disabled, you're left with the stock AOSP lockscreen, which is there all along. Don't forget to make sure Root Explorer is mounted as R/W before doing that. Once done, reboot. You should then have the AOSP lockscreen.
EDIT: And btw, I'm currently not using the Rosie launcher. I'm using the stock gingerbread launcher, so I'm unsure if or how this will affect using Rosie. Report back if there are any problems with that, so others know. Thanks.

Awesome. As cool as the animated weather lockscreen is I think that whole ring thing is just stupid. It's ugly and not very intuitive. Not to mention it is not smooth at all.

I'm using the launcher from the Supra rim thread. He has an apk attached. I haven't had ant issues with it. The apologize drawer doesn't have that "rounded scroll " effect when you scroll it, if that's what you mean. Otherwise it works great.

I thought so too at first. But a month and change in (for the most part) and I found that I almost never used those shortcuts. I'm talkin' single digits here...perhaps countable on one hand....the weather is really cool, but, that ring...I'm all like "what?" But, as usual around here, to each his own.
Thank god for the stock lock screen...thanks OP

It is a good lock screen. But either way it's always best to have options.
I'm now trying to switch to the AOSP lockscreen. Works fine when I rename the htclockscreen.apk file but... I'd sure like a way to turn off the menu button which completely defeats the entire lock system. Reason I want to switch is that HTC still doesn't know how to make a lock screen that doesn't constantly pocket answer. Sense 3.0 is no better. So the AOSP lockscreen would do the job: if I could disable the menu button so that pressing menu does nothing (like it should). Anyone know how to disable the menu button on the lockscreen? Would also be nice to turn off the haptic garbage when sliding the slider too.
Any info? I found a flash for the Evo 4G that disables the menu button on the lockscreen but it involved replacing a .jar file in the framework folder. I'm thinking an Evo 4G file in there would probably not be compatible with the Evo 3D so we probably need our own file, right?
Thanks,
Mike
Hell yeah. Just what I've been looking for. Thanks. Works great!
is there any way to do the opposite?
use aosp throughout the whole rom
but have the htcsenselockring?
sorry if it had already been asked.
Guess I'm stuck with the HTC lockscreen answering in my pocket. You lose too much using the AOSP lockscreen:
(1) Caller ID on lockscreen: have to unlock to see who is calling and after that, there's no way to relock before you put it back in your pocket: pressing the power button disconnects the call. Smart!
(2) Menu button completely overrides the lock. Again... SMART!
(3) Idiotic haptic feedback while sliding the lock.
Just wish HTC would do it right. All they'd have to do is offer a side to side or different type of unlock as an option. Screen Suite actually works pretty well but you have two choices of a lock slider: iPhone (don't get me started) and a stupid cartoony spaceship that looks completely ghey. Sigh... this should be SIMPLE!

There is a ROM that has that, it has the sense lock screen but an ASOP look. Sadly I forgot which one it was since I flash like every other day.
Edit: Its Project ROM.
The easiest way to get the AOSP lockscreen instead of Sense imo is just go into Titanium Backup, go to Backup/Restore tab, scroll down to HTC Lockscreen(not sure of the name of the actual app but it is obvious and has HTC Lockscreen in the name), uninstall it and then reboot your phone and you will have AOSP lockscreen.
I used this method but now when my screen is off and I receive a call, I have to unlock the screen, but it only displays the red end button as if I am already in a call. It does not allow me to answer the call. Any remedy to this? Thanks

[Q] How to change the icons on the S3 lock screen?

I know how to change which apps are shown on the lock screen, but is there a way to change the icons for those apps?
I'm using Apex Launcher and I've changed some of the icons for apps on my home screens, but it still shows the original icons on the lock screen. It would be nice if I could change them so that they match.
Is there an app that I can use to do this?

Actually, I'm pretty sure it says that he knows how to change what programs go there, but he wants to change Icons for certain things. E.g. he wants a different icon for the Dialer instead of the stock one, he doesn't want to change it so Dialer isn't there.
You'll have to use themes to change icons though afaik, so you're probably better off looking for that OP.

Read the very first thing I said: -
"I know how to change which apps are shown on the lock screen, but is there a way to change the icons for those apps?"
It's not possible unless someone mods the touchscreen (probably quite difficult).
Your best solution would be to change the actual app icon - there should be a png in drawable-res/??? (??? = resolution of sgs3) that is the icon. you can overwrite it with winzip or whatever (make sure the size is the same though).
Axtually, just use a different lock screen app.

Running root at 240 ppi

This is my first post here.
I recently switched from iPhone to Note 2. I was very drawn towards a large screen with lots of real estate. The note 2 out of the box didn't do it for me. However, I read the discussions about the international version and people changing the DPI with ROMs and other methods and figured if they could do it, so could I.
After waiting 5 weeks for my pre-order to arrive, then a week for the developers to provide a root option, I finally have my wish. Here is how I did it.
1. Root
2. Install a custom launcher (I installed nova, which works for me.) Set it as default
3. Install a new keyboard and set it as default
4. Install LCD Resolution from play store. I found nowhere that discussed this option, but I tested on a GS3, GS1, and Droid Charge and it worked better than the other DPI changers.
5. Set PPI to 240 in LCD Resolution. Uncheck Always Set on Boot until you know it will be stable. This caught me in a boot loop on the GS3. The only other res I tried was 160 and it failed.
6. Reboot.
It should work great. There are a few things to note:
1. The camera looks bad. I have not replaced it with a new one yet. - Please post any suggestions.
2. The calculator and dialer dont look amazing but are usable.
3. Email in portrait doesn't use the whole screen. I use it in landscape and it great.
4. Clock does not work, but can be replaced easily. I have not found a new alarm to use yet. - Please post any suggestions.
If you get another DPI to work well, let us know.
Otherwise, this is a great mod if you need more real estate on your new screen without loosing any of the s-pen or other stock functionality.
Thanks to those of you who helped root...
hmm, doesn't seem to work for me. The prompt in the app to reboot doesn't do anything.
Can we see some screen caps?
just do it manually it doesnt cause boot loops. You can change it to any DPI you want.
Use root explorer
navigate to "System/Build props"
Hold down "build props"
choose "open with"
then choose "text editor"
scroll down a few lines look for "ro.sf.lcd_density=320"
Change the 320 to whatever you want, I use 240.
click "save and exit",
reboot your device,
profit.
Why would you want to change it if it makes stuff look bad?
you can also edit the build.prop via rom toolbox really easily and the results are attached. 240dpi is first 320dpi is second.
Your Samsung keyboard will also crash at 240dpi but you can replace it with this one made by bala_gamer http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1501015&d=1353535434

I haven't done it yet but a lower dpi would be great on this phone. It would let you take more advantage of such a large screen real estate.

It doesn't really break anything from what I've noticed, just makes a few things appear a bit differently, but still fully functional. It's worth a shot if you're interested in doing it, and you can always change back if you find it unmanagable. Personally, a per app dpi would be ideal, because you don't always prefer every app to be at 240 dpi. But I really like it, especially with the on screen nav buttons, which even those make some apps SLIGHTLY off, but still plenty usable, and worth the small inconvenience. To each their own though.

The white line is probably the miui battery bar, see if its on in settings> custom settings> battery bar settings. As far as the dpi, just use a root explorer to go into system>Apps>build.prop, then long press build.prop and open in text editor and change the line with "screen/lcd density" and change the value to 240(or whatever you want). Hit menu and save/exit then reboot. You are correct that you lose the edit function in multi windows, but you can always change back to edit your apps, then switch back. The change only takes 10 seconds.

Why you would want to is easy. Ever used a tablet and seen tablet mode on apps? Stock DPI prevents apps from entering tablet mode and that was one feature I was looking very forward to with such a big screen.

I couldn't get that to work either. I think it ma be a touchwiz conflict.
Just experienced my 2nd screen/sleep of death today, and unfortunately I'm thinking it's from the dpi. Going to change and will report back if I discover otherwise. I'll also leave my nav bar on, just to eliminate that variable. Bummer...I really hope we can incorporate a per app dpi on this phone at some point, maybe paranoid android(as long as it's reasonably compatible with the s-pen).
I also noticed my "android system" under battery was going through the roof. It was going over the screen %, but now that I changed the dpi back, it's already back under.
