[Q] HELP! Changed registry key folder name by accident - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
Before of all things, it must say that i tryed and googled for a solution before posting but i was not succed..so i hope someone can help me here...
Yesterday i was reading a page of tweaks and apps for my HD2 based on changing some key values, using phm registry editor.
By accident, i changed a key name wich made my SD card unreadable and undetectable i just need someone to tell me the names of the folders in HKLM\System\StorageManager.
In StorageManager key i have in it: AutoLoad, FATFS, Filters, IMGFS, MSPART, PartitionTable, Profiles, UDFS...and the next one i renamed it to "W"
Can anyone tell what is the original name of that last key?
Thank you very much
Sincerely,
El_E69

not easy to help you I'm at bed now traying to get sleep.
but saw your message, so I extracted the reg value of the storage Card of my device. take a look and compare.

Thank you for your help and effort Kurt, but unfortunently that didn't solved my problem
under UDFS i have another key, wich is the one i need to know the original name was...
But once more, i appreciate your help
Sincerely,
El_E69

No problem at all sir, but question. witch OS version do you have/use?
because I don't have any other reg key under UDFS

I don't have anything after UDFS, it goes to Uptime, which is not under StorageManager

Thank you all for your answers...
After asking a friend of mine to see in is Diamond 2 his folders on StorageManager Key, i realized they are two diferent and distinct phones.
I've attached two images of my StorageManager folder so you guys can give me an additional help, hope that they help you to help me.
If not, is there any tool to restore the whole registry of the phone or at leat Storagemanager Keys?
Thank you very much once again
Sincerely,
El_E69

Anyone please...

heres mine....
not sure if it will help but worth a try....

Ok...after seeing your storagemanager folders, i saw that the key i renamed, you huys don't have it..
I would like to know how can i put all storagemanager folders and key like yours without having to do it manually one by one? Is there any procedure or tool for that?
Or any tool to restore it ?
Thank you once again
Sincerely,
El_E69

Help me here guys...i'm just about to do a hard reset

use ceregeditor. connect your phone to your pc with activesync, open program, have it read the registry, navigate to the registries you want, right-click>export & make sure to save as .reg & not whatever the first option is. then just open the file in notepad & there you go.
post what yours comes up with & we can compare to see what you might have changed.

Thank you very much for your help Xnifex
as you told me, i downloaded the software and i was able to export my storagecard registry, wich i leave here posted so you can continue to help me if you may...
Thanks once again!

i don't know why everyone keeps capitalizing the first x in my username. that's not important though.
disclaimer: i'm at work & don't have my cable so i'm working off of the file that conantroutman uploaded.
I'm guessing you've tried to load up someone else's registry because you have some stuff that should be there but is messed up.
first off, using ceregedit, delete all 3 of these (delete the whole FATFS folder & it should delete the second 2 things):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\Fil ters]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\Fil ters\ENCFilt]
"Dll"="mencfilt.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000005
second, change the "w" to "FATFS" for this one:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\w]
Doing this will make all of the other registry keys that fall under that whole folder to be right. That's the key you've renamed on accident. It should be FATFS but you have w.
I said that it looks like you imported someone elses registry because the first 3 things I tell you to delete are correct, but are missing all of the actual info. I'm guessing that came for the import.

THANK YOU SO SO SO VERY MUCH GUYS!
It Worked, after all you just said, the folder "W" was really FATFS!
You can't imagine how happy i am right now
One special thanks to this fantastic community!
Sincerely,
El_E69

glad it worked out

Anyone know where speed dial settings are stored?

Looked up & down in the registry but could not find where the where speed dial settings are stored. Is there any kind soul who can point me in the right direction? TIA
there is a hidden directory on the XDA named \Databases ... you can access it through the ActiveSync explor function ... the data is stored in the speed.db file ... you can use dbView s/w to read/modify it
Thank you sooo much!!! This is great information. Most appreciated.
I find that I can't copy that file using the Activesynch connection. Any idea how I can make it unhidden so it can be copied? Thanks once again!
there is no need to take it to the PC ... us dbView (freeware) to deal with the file directly on the PPC
Sorry for not articulating clearly. I am working on a script to rebuilt an XDA after a hardreset. This script does many things like installing cab files, restoring file based settings & importing registry entries etc. In order to restore the speed dial settings I would like to be able to copy the speed.db file to my PC where I am assembling the restoration folder structure etc. Eventually the whole lot will go on a SD card. Hope this works. If not I will need to use the screen-tap automation method to recreate my speed dial list which is quite tedious. Thanks for your help.
ah I see ... nice project
Well, this is a system folder. So, I guess it has a hack tweak to unlock it ... the same like the brilliant unlocking tool for the XDA II extended ROM ... so maybe Peter or Itsm can help
In all cases, re-assigning the speed dials after a hard reset is not that lose ... waiting to see this new tool

System files moving not permitted

Hi to everyone.
Before this HTC device I had others and also had a Motorola Mpx220 (WM2003 SE).
I was used to move the files within "\Windows\Start Menu" (mostly .lnk files to installed programs) into newly created subfolders, to be able to use and/or access the function I needed in a faster way.
I've tried doing the same on this WM5 device, but everytime I try I get an error message reporting it is not possible (File Explorer has greyed out options to cut and/or copy, while TotalCommander just reports it's not possible to "overwrite" ???).
Does anyone have an idea of how this can be done (registry ???) ?
Thank you.
Ciao
Here is the solution...
Hi Mix, it's Mix answering (yes, I'm the same person...)...
First of all I would like to thank you ALL the people which knew the solution and were fighting to answer to my doubt...
You were so many, I wonder why the message has been read times and so many answers arrived: 0 (yes, ZERO).
Anyway, I came across the solution myself, by chance...
The problems seems being the smartphone versions of WM5 being protected against file modifications. This protection extends also to some files execution and to certificate installations (hence some problems may arise when connecting to an Exchange Server for syncronization).
Some tools are needed to remove this protection, and some experience of registry modification is required too (I will not help anyone beside what is in this message and I take no responsability for any mistakes and/or troubles you may produce or face).
First of all you need a special version of RegEdit (the tool from PHM): you should find an HTC digitally signed copy of it called RegEditSTG.exe.
Look around for it: there are many forums around which do hold a copy of it.
Place it in your phone's memory, not on the MicroSD card...
With this tool you should change the following values:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 2 => 1 (RAPI)
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 16 => 40 (Cert)
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001017 = 128 => 144 (?)
The first is the value you will find, the second is the value you should enter. The third line has a question mark because someone says it should be made, someone not... It's up to you. I made it.
Then you should find another tool (with the same above method) called SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe which has to be run on your desktop PC with the phone already connected with USB (and possibly with ActiveSync not in the middle of a sync...).
Once you run this, you will get a message that the unlock took place (if not, it may be the first operations did not complete well).
Disconnect your phone from the USB cable and power cycle it (switch it off and then on again).
Opla'... the phone is not APPLICATION UNLOCKED and you will be able to move file around the directories as I was looking to when I first posted my message.
Now I have a very quick Start Menu, as I wanted.
Please, be aware that this operation hacks the security policies of WM5 and then any other application which may be dangerous can now run on your phone.
If you wish to stay on the safe side, it could be useful to restore the registry settings to their original values, but I do not know if this could cause other problems, since I didn't on my phone.
I actually double check every single file by myself before launching it and I do not run anything which I'm not sure it is safe.
So, pay attention... (you have been warned...).
Hope this helps someone else out there.
Ciao
Thanks for the tips mate! I was searching around for the same problem.
Can a hard reset put all the files back as in the old WM2003? I'm asking that 'cause if you look at the windows directory, many exe and dll files are repeated, with a different code. I guessed they are for the many different languages the phone support and the code is the country code. Maybe when you switch from one language to another those files are renamed so you have the correct exe and dll for the language you need...
If I can erase all the files I don't need (I will never change the language or maybe have only italian and english) I can save lot of space.
Am I wrong? Was that ever tried before?

In order:
- Yes, I suppose a hard reset of the device completely restores the original factory settings, hence, the device will appear as "brand new".
- You're right: all the localized files present there are just to be able to swithc to other languages (maybe following user's settings and maybe also following user's SIM settings too...).
- Erasing the unused files may appear as a "space saving" job. It is not. First of all you will not be able to remove ROM resident files, but provided you could be able to do this, you will not be able to use ROM space as you intend...
Finally then, it's completely unuseful to try to remove them, just a waste of time trying...
Ciao
Thanks Michele.
Are you sure the windows directory is in ROM?
I always tought ROM was only to store the "disk" image when you hard reset the device. I was so for the Qtek S100.

Yes it is. On the fact that it is then copied into RAM, well, this is a tecnique which was used up to WM2003 SE devices.
Starting from WM5 devices MS somewhat changed the behaviour of the whole system, hence I'm not then so sure.
Indeed, I have never been sure of anything, beside death, so you can imagine...
I'm not really so "expert".
Having used an MPx220 for over one year (with all its limitations, but exploiting it very much), using a WM5 device now is a much more relaxed experience (faster, more realiable and less troubly in terms of memory).
Just MHO
Thanks Mix - i followed your directions and it worked.

X01HT manner mode executable wanted

hi,
can anyone still running the original japanese rom on x01ht share the manner mode executable with me? i don't recall the exact name of that file but i think it was like manner_mode.exe you can find in windows directory.
i had it backed up when i made the rom switch to tytn but i somehow lost it. appreciate it if you could reply to this with that file attached.
thanks in advance...
can anybody help?
Is that the program that activates manner mode by press and holding the comm manager button?
Sorry I don't have it either, I flashed English and would love this functionality back too.
tle,
yup, that's what I'm asking for. i think it will benefit everyone if someone can upload it here.
Isn't it on x01ht ExtROM? If it's not you can probably extract it from the dumped rom.

It's definitely not on the extrom... I've converted a half dozen X01HTs from Japanese to English, and not been able to restore that function. Thanks for the links to the dumped ROM; that should help me get some of the softbank special stuff back...
- awh
hi guys,
it's not on the extrom. it's in the windows directory for sure. i once copied it on my storage card but i lost it when i screwed it by reading that micro sd card with my pc.
pof,
i realized that you might be right saying that it's on the extrom. i recall that it was not a rom file and it was a file copied into the windows directory. i think that means it was installed by one of the sb cab files on the extrom. the only cab file i did not execute was PT_SIMlock_Empty.cab.

I think it's not on this one, this just adds the "annoying screen" for simlock protection by software. If you install this then you need to install SB_USIM.cab to remove the annoying screen.

I agree - I still have the unnerving feeling that some of the content in the extrom actually points to executables somewhere in the ROM. Bad band-aid type code, but what would you expect..? I think I saw similar on the i-mate extrom where it tried to execute parts of the standrard rom after a cold reset..

Is it this??
Dear all members
I saw some bbs mentioned as follow
'there is a file that was conianted in X01HT WINDOWS folder
TrayIcon_MannerMode.exe'
But I'm not sure is it correct?
Manner mode is called in oversea 'silent-mode' or 'flight-mode'
I've flashed my X01HT to Dopod rom so that I can not try it.
anyway let's you try it.

i don't exactly remember the file name but i think the one you saw is the one i am looking for. it's not the "flight-mode" that turns the radio off but it is the same as the "silent-mode" and turns the vibrator on.
you can turn on the vibrator by opening the comm manager and tap on the vibrator icon, but this small exe file i am looking for does the same by just press and holding the comm manager button. when that is on, an icon sits in the tray. not a big deal but it's convenient.
i'll check the dumped rom pof advised.
Now that I understand what "manner mode" is, this might be useful for you too:

hi pof,
thanks a lot for that. it works great and this is what i wanted. i should have searched more to find this thread myself in the first place. now i will find a way to assign this to press and hold state of the comm manager button (button 3).

I didn't take the time to check..but here is what you can do to find out. Uncheck the box, export your registry. Check the box and export your registry again..then just compare the two you should able to find the registry key for that.

i'm using total commander (PPC version to export, PC version to compare).
you can download a trial of registry work shop... it will take 2 reg dumps and compare them... just use something like TRE to export your entire reg on your phone, then copy it to your desktop, then make your changes again and export your whole reg and copy that to your desktop, fire up registry workshop, open both the dumps with it and do a compare.. it will give you a nice little comparison!

Can I cook AE button into my rom?

Well, there you have it... that's the question, and the answer is obvious.
However, the caveat is not...
Does AEButton save your changes to the registry, or to a DLL?
Can someone tell me how I would go about cooking my personalizations into my ROM?
yes, you need to get the OEM package for it though. I have a lot of packages, but no aebutton.
you can one of two things....
1. learn how to create your own packages. there are a few tutorals here on xda.
2. send me the app and seriall number for activation and I will put one together for ya.
email is codyppc at gmail dot com
Cody,
thanks for answering, but i think you misunderstood...
I need some help figuring out how to make an OEM that will also set up all of my current button associations. I'm not sure if there's a DLL I need to pull off my phone and overwrite in the cab, or if there are registry entries I need to add to an RGU... I'm hoping someone has that info.
Any help?

The easy way to find your answer is to use a registry compare program... Export your current registry, then change all the button assignments you want changed and then export the registry again. have the program compare the 2..... here's the registry program that I use to compare with... works great.... You should see the differences real easy if they are saved in the registry.....

Thanks. I'll give your program a try.. I've been using windiff, and haven't been able to decipher the gobbledy-gook to figure out which registry entries are changed.
Here is a working AEButtons Plus OEM.
once you try user customization, you will love the flexibility in it. If a new program comes out, you can just uninstall your current version. Or, when you reflash you can just edit your SDconfig.txt
When you cook programs into the rom, you are stuck with that version

Can you tell me how to set up AE button with user customization?
LOL. I forgot about that. yOu have to use the hide and unhide function in UC. It is posted in the UC thread. I'm laughing b/c i just remembered AE button plus gave me the hardest time at first, until I found out about the hide and unhide.
When you install AE button plus, it pulls you up to the program menu screen. That will just freeze User customization. So you have to be in unlock mode. I actually just install AE button plus and .net 3.5 upon start of UC, then I lock the phone and let it do the rest.
AE Button Plus stores its config in AEBPlus.cfg. This stores the button config as well as your registration data. That file needs to be in the same directory the rest of your AE Button plus files are.
EDIT: I have attached the OEM I use for mine. It has my AEBPlus.cfg in it which you will want to overwrite with yours. Otherwise, you will have my config as well as my serial # which is only good for my device.
Thanks guys! you're all awesome.. thanks for the help..
I'm going to try to cook AE into my next rom.. with that success, I think I'm only 1-2 steps away from having PERFECTION on my phone... haha
