[Q] Anyone else having problems with the stock Vibrant Video Player? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
So I was wondering if anyone else thinks the video player on the Vibrant is really lacking in terms of functionality. The device says that it can play .avi files (and then some) but when I download files from my PC to the phone (I transferred a few episodes of The Simpsons and Pixar's UP), it simply says "Unsupported Filed Type".
Does anyone else have this problem? I've also tried downloading official .divx files (movie trailers) from divx.com that I know should work on the Vibrant, but it still doesn't.
Now, I've downloaded RockPlayer and all those files that couldn't be played with the stock video player now plays perfectly. Now, what am I missing here? It's not an issue with my particular phone right? Additionally, if the phone is marketed as a multimedia phone that supports a wide variety of file types, it kind of sucks that it can't even play on the stock video player.
[PS. The files I transferred to my phone can play fine on a PS3, so the format should be correct, I believe]

Often the issue is a particular encoding or the resolution is too high. I use MediaCoder to do my conversions, because Rockplayer freezes occasionally on me.

The avi files in PC (usually downloaded from torrents) tend to be encoded with special codecs and not all players can play it. Even in the PC, if you don't have VLC player, some times they don't play in computer itself...
Convert them to supported formats before copying them to mobile.

Audio and video issues with atrix

So I am having some issues with my atrix. I am trying to watch movies off my hdmi and video and audio are both working. The only problem is that the sound is not in sync with the video. Do i need to convert the videos files in order to correct this issue or am i doing something wrong. Sorry if this question has already been posted but i couldn't find any info on it.
its not the phone. The problem is from the way you are converting it. Try a different program and see if that helps.

Have you played them on a PC to see what they look like?
What software are you using to create the videos?
What source are you using? (avi, wma, etc.)
Where is the source material coming from?
If they are out of sync on another device/computer, then it rules out the phone.
yeah I have, the play fine on my windows media player. I downloaded them via torrent and they play fine on my laptop. They are .AVI files and I already trouble shooted them all on my phone. They all seem to do the same thing. windows media player plays them just fine. My atrix plays them too but the sound doesnt go in sync with the actors voices.
I really dont think its the phone, I just think its the software in the phone that is causing it. I have tried other players on android market and they do the same thing.
I did not convert the files to mp4 or mkv files. Im thinking that this is the issue. Its just a drag to convert them since it takes so long to do the conversion.

[Q] Video playback issues

Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone had any issues playing videos (of any type) to play properly on their tab and if so if they have found a way to fix it..?
Recently bought a tab 10.1, and no matter what file type I upload - avi, mkv, xvid, divx, mp4, m4v etc none will play without pixelation on playback.
I've converted with 5 different converters, played using moboplayer, vplayer, rockplayer, diceplayer and mxplayer.
Youtube playback is fine, I'm going to try streaming tonight see if that's fine.
Don't really know what else to do. So any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

What quality of vids are you playing? 720p should be fine with those player especially mobo and dice
I'm not playing HD quality. Most of my video files are normal quality avi's. Really I'd really like it to just play them but it won't play them without the pixelation.
K well I tried streaming a video from my MacBook Pro to my tab via wifi and it works perfectly...
Thoughts anyone?
How are you transferring the files onto your tab? I have a MAc book pro also and the only way I was able to transfer quickly was via the USB adaptor...
I'm using Diceplayer and have encountered no issues with play back and most of my files are downloads and avi, mkv etc. I just plug and play, no converting or anythign and not encountered any pixilation or play back issues.
Seems what works for some doesn't work for others...but if streaming worked for you, try the adaptor for getting your video's onto the tab.

I'm using Kies, and that seems to transfer at a reasonable rate. Not too painfully slow.

Have u tried transfer it manually using usb data cable from pc to tab?
i'm not suprised you're getting pixalation issues if you're trying to transfer using Kies. I found it an absolute joke but then again I am using a MAC.
Just suck it up and buy the USB adaptor...and transfer files via a USB stick or use WIFI explorer
Ya, Kies is as absolute joke on Mac.
Didn't think that it was the program that was causing my problems. I searched and searched for days and converted god knows how many types of files when all along it the useless program.
I just transferred some files via the hubby's PC through File Explorer and it's now playing perfectly.
Total fail of a program. Can't update firmware on Mac, can't upload files, it can't even update itself.
Cheers for all the help guys.
Why not instead of the USB cable, download SwiFTP and setup an FTP server on the tab? Then just FTP files to it using FileZilla on the PC or something?

[Q] Files Streaming Issues through WIFI

Just got the S3 couple days ago and I have a problem with WIFI Streaming at home.
Previously, I have been using the Transformer to stream large video files over wifi without having any issues.
On the S3, I have tried ES File, and File manager to stream videos and transfer files that are over 500MB. Streaming stopped at various times and transferring large files always stopped at some point and eventually crashed the transfer. I don't know what's the issue is and WIFI seems to be stable and I never had an issue in regards to losing connection.
When the video is played, it would load to certain point, and then when the video reached that point, it would stopped.
This happened on MX Player and the default video player.
No problem at all when the same video is played from internal memory.
Transferring and streaming small files such as MP3 seems to be ok.
WIFI is set to always on during sleep.
I even tried to *#0011# method to turn off WIFI power save mode.
Anyone knows what the issue is?
THANK YOU!
Anyone able to help?
Can someone please help? Thank you!!
Same video streaming issues. problem details.
Hi.
I'm just a week into Android OS but have good knowledge of Windows and networks.
I bought a Sammy 7" Tab 2 (ICS) last week and liked it so much, I gave it to my wife and got a Samsung 7.7 (Honeycomb). So, I have both OS's to play with. Both are WiFi only. Both have the same problem.
I have a large collection of old movies & tv (w/o DMR) on my W7 desktop's hard drives. I can copy the files via USB or over WiFi using "ES File explorer" with no problems. Once the files are on the tablets local drives, xvid, avi, wmv, mkv, and mp4 all play perfectly.
If I stream the video, using "ES File explorer", wmv and mp4 files play fine, but the other formats don't. I've tried Mobo and 2 other players with the same results. Most of my library is in xvid format. I can covert them, but that's a nutty solution.
Anyone have the same problem? Better yet, understand why and have a solution?
Richard

[Q] Can't play 3gp video file on my phone and pc. WHY?

I had this app on my phone that could record videos and take pics in secret. I recently bought the app to gain 1/3 access of it's functionality. Started to test the camcorder and looked it up in my sdcard directory. Played the video file but the notice came up as "Unable to play video file". I thought this was something that you can play only on my computer with any player software like Windows Media Player, VLC or Realplayer but GUESS I WAS WRONG. I ported over this "3GP" file from my phone to my computer, chose any video player software that can play this file and all off them failed. Classic Media Player tells me that there's a missing filter, Quicktime can't understand the file, RealPlayer says that I'm missing a "moov atom" and I have this FreeStudio software by DVDVideoSoft and tried to convert it but it told me that "Unable to convert format. File is DRM protected". Can anyone tell me what's going on here and is there anyway without going to some nefarious website for solutions?

[Q] VLC for Android Beta doesn't show srt subtitles?

The latest version of VLC for Android Beta (version 0.9.10) downloaded from Google Play doesn't display srt subtitles anymore on my device (Sony Xperia Z2 D6503). I'm running the latest version of Android available for the device (4.4.4) and the latest available firmware version (23.0.1.A.0.167). The VLC application correctly detects the SRT file and it can be chosen as a subtitle track. However, when playing video there's no subtitles to be seen. I've tried this with a large number of different video files in different formats and with different SRT files stored in both internal and external storage or USB stick with no luck. The video files and SRT files are not corrupted since I've been able to play them with no problems on my device by using other video playback software such as BSPlayer for Android or Sony's built-in video player on the device. I've reinstalled the VLC application a number of times, rebooted the device, soft-resetted the device, cleared the media database and history in the application's settings, and cleared all application data in the system settings with no luck. I've also tried older versions of VLC and the nightly build.
I also posted this problem on the VLC's official help forum and I had a discussion with one of the developers there. From the log file I sent him (available here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jclfbs2a7hbha2o/VLC debug.txt?dl=0) he detected that the problem is somehow related to system fonts or text rendering modules as can be seen from the following lines in the log file linked above:
freetype spu text: Using /system/fonts/DroidSans-Bold.ttf as font from file /system/fonts/DroidSans-Bold.ttf
freetype spu text: Using /system/fonts/DroidSansMono.ttf as mono-font from file /system/fonts/DroidSansMono.ttf
freetype spu text: file /system/fonts/DroidSans-Bold.ttf have unknown format
core spu text: no text renderer modules matched
Unfortunately the developer wasn't able to help me any further than that. So that's why I'm posting here.
I'd also like to point out that this issue wasn't there in the previous firmware version (17.1.2.A.0.314). I'm currently experiencing this problem running the firmware posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/stock-4-4-4-23-0-1-0-167-bug-free-t2929402 As a friend of mine who also owns a Sony Xperia Z2 and uses the exact same firmware is experiencing this exact same issue, one could think that it has something to do with the firmware and Android build in question. Of course it could be any number of things affecting the subtitles but other Android devices I've tried have had no problem with displaying the subtitles in VLC.
So I'm just wondering is anyone else experiencing this annoying problem with VLC and Xperia Z2 and would someone have any idea of how to fix this? Of course meanwhile I can use other video players such as BSPlayer to watch videos with srt subtitles, but I prefer the interface of VLC.
I actually don't know anyone personally that uses either VLC or BS player anymore. You'd be best getting MX player instead, it has native support for everything that's thrown at it, including stylised subtitle support.
Are you sure you're trying to use SRT subtitles? The only time you should get warnings/errors about TTF font files is when a MKV with embedded ASS subtitles can't find a suitable substitute.
Of course there are other viable media players available, I'm aware of that. And as I pointed out VLC is the only media app misbehaving this way. And yes, I'm absolutely sure that I'm using srt subtitles. Same subtitles that have no problem playing with other media players on my device or with VLC on other Android devices. I specifically pointed out the location of the subtitle files for VLC manually. I was just curious about this error. This misbehaviour with VLC started instantly after updating firmware and the same happened to a friend of mine so that got me thinking if there's a possibility of something being different in the fonts department FW- or OS-wise. But I happen to know a couple of other apps as well that are not currently playing well with Android 4.4.4 so it's not that exceptional to find an app not fully compatible with that version of Android. Oh well, maybe I just have to move on and start using some other media player as you suggested. Using VLC was just an old habit for me and after all there's a saying that old habits die hard. And now that you mentioned MX Player as a better alternative. Well it seems that it no longer supports AC3 audio due to licensing issues so in that way it's unfortunately less functional compared to either VLC or BSPlayer. :/ And I happen to play quite a lot of media with AC3 audio on my device. However, there seem to be workarounds available for getting MX Player to play AC3 again.
One year later I suffer the same on a Asus Zen pad 540 and newest firmware, so it seems there are sensible parts of Android, mine is 5.0.
I wish I could use Ac3 with Mx player
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
its 2020, updated my VLC to latest version... and VLC now is not reading any .srt file...
.mp4 .mkv are my vid extensions.. and no srt reading happened
