Which dev(s) (if any) are working on porting the leaked captivate froyo rom? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, while I understand that questions don't normally go here, I figured this one was ok because it hasn't really been asked before and it seems like a pretty important question. I was wondering which devs were porting the captivate froyo rom to the vibrant? Unfortuanantly, I can't code, but I'm certainly willing to donate and beta test if someone is up to the job. Fyi, I know this is already posted in q&a , I'll request its deletion.
-thanks, bobofosho123

Eugene373 is working on it. But apparently it suffers the same issues as the i9000 leaks.

I've used it, but the wifi doesn't work, there still isn't a "bug-free" enough version of froyo for the vibrant to justify me flashing it, which I've done in the past only to revert to some other 2.1 rom, all i really want is flash though...I don't care about froyo too much beyond that.

Eugene_373 tweeted he had it running on his and he would have an upload soon.
*Shrug* past that.

All I know is that I'm running Froyo_R3 on my Vibrant, and have yet to really run into any problems besides the fact that randomly the messaging app will open something else random. That got fixed with ChompSMS

Whats your lin pack + quad scores running that rom?

But GPS was always broken in the first place.

Yes but the leaked builds have working gps.....

I thought wifi was still broken on Eugene's latest froyo rom, correct? Last time I flashed the froyo_r3 rom it caused my phone to spazz out and keep cycling through off and the lock screen. Has that been fixed?

GPS is going to be Broken until we get a Leak, it's not like we have source!
Linpack? Quadrant? Sad if you Depend on those score's to consider it Fast
Regarding R3, Key mapping issue & GPS is Broke, that's about it.
Regarding the ATT build, I have it running fine, but why Post it when it has the same issue's as the I9000 but worst! The key mapping could be fixed on the ATT but the ATT kernel has Sounds issue that can't be fixed as it's kernel related..

Yeah, until we get an official kernel source for the vibrant, porting the captivate 2.2 will still be buggy.

It's funny that neither xrider or eunki can answer the question. Xrider just seems like a tw fan boy (not to knock tw, I've (mostly) used tw roms on my vibrant), but frost is still not 100%. Frost is faster is not an answer to my question either.

Wow,
Some real A-holes on this forum =)
I think the "issue" is that Google doesn't seem to (afaik) release a full changelog of each Android version.
From around the web:
The carrier says enhancements include an updated Twitter application with new authentication support, improved Exchange ActiveSync functionality, a new Gmail user interface, and updated Amazon, News and Weather widgets.

So...
2.2.1 is supposedly "faster" and has a "other improvements".
Basically, if you're happy with you current rom, it doesn't matter.
You could always read the Android 2.2.1 user guide
https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.google.com/googlephone/AndroidUsersGuide.pdf&pli=1
and play spot the difference. lol
This is what I needed, the only info I found through searching was that google had no official change log. Active sync I did notice when I flashed the rom. Basically, it's just speed improvements that may or may not be marginal then. Thanks much!
yup
know whats funny? when i flash back to 2.1 before i flash to 2.2 my data download speed literally goes for 20 Kb/s to 150Kb/s wtf? no way ill ever hit a data cap at 20-50 k a sec in downloading.
xriderx66 you are really showing your age with comments like that. Also, no one likes your kanye west impersonation. I WRITE IN ALL CAPS CAUSE MY WORDS ARE LOUD LAWLZ!!! His question was about the difference. His statement was about the menu lag.
Back on track: looking around the net it is hard to find the difference between 2.2 and 2.2.1. What I've found is the same as Hole. Heard someone around these parts say it has gpu acceleration for the browser. But I thought I had read about 2.3 coming with the vp8 engine. Someone correct me if I am wrong with that info.

I'm actually surprised that it took this long.
We used the 1.2 bl initially because we had to as we ported directly from the Adam devs. But once there were Clem kernel ports, it wasn't technically a requirement anymore. I just never changed my port as my opinions on 1.2 are already well-stated and sticking with it made sense to me, at least. But that doesn't mean that a 1.1 based HC ROM was impossible.
However, if NI releases a HC port and it's using a .36 kernel to make everything work, this 1.1 ROM might have issues with porting that. But this is all speculation, at this point - I don't know if a NI port will even work on a GTAB yet, regardless of the bootloader used.
does this has the same bl 1.2 version issues or just the usb to pc?!
bl 1.2 version has these issues:
(copied from other forum)
- Camera isn't working (pulled out the app for now)
- Browser is working, but OpenGL is disabled for it to work. That means no Flash on the stock browser.
- (High-def) video playback does not work, yet.
any testers can confirm this? i'm a bit feeling lazy to try it today

One other thing, on a good note -- I'm definitely happy to see more modders our there for the GTablet. Options are always a good thing and I plan to pull back a bit, starting new month. So the more HC ports we have, the better!
Quick question... If I'm running Vegan 5.1.1, what do I need to do to install this ROM? Full wipe? Just flash it from CWM? Something else entirely?
Sorry, I'm still a bit of a noob at all of this, but I promise I'm trying to learn!
roebeet said:
I was really hesitant to post anything, as I really don't want you taking this the wrong way. I apologize if it came off as anything else but a concern for post-support, that was not my intent (and, in retrospect, a PM would have been better. My bad).
The branding, for me, is mostly about post-support. Remember, I'm a sysadmin by trade so when I get PM's on issues, I usually ask the usual questions like what mod, what version, how did you install it, etc. That's actually why I started branding "TNT Lite" as such back in November, as it was easier for me to know if a user was actually using my ROM or not. That's really my only concern, here. When two different mods are branded the same, it will get confusing. Especially if they are on two different development branches. It is fun, I agree - that's why I do this. But for users who soft-brick, it's sometimes a major panic attack and a lot of them are hesitant to use nvflash.

Robeet, I think you were spot on, the OP is not reading it correctly. I can just see the flood of posts/PM's asking you questions and users cross posting between 1.1/1.2 because of this and the difficulty of tracking all this. it's difficult enough keeping up with all these great roms and boot loader types, I could not imagine what it is like on your guys side.
OP he is not dissing you, he is just asking that you rename it so you can support issues and he does not have to keep getting cross questions, it's pretty much non-issue in my eyes.
OP, thanks for supporting the Gtab and the 1.1. people like all you devs that make android so much fun and android FTW over IOS.

Yes, full wipe and flash it. do a backup of course just incase you want to go back. back up your apps as well so you can restore them on the other side of HC.

if you dont have time to read, comprehend, and understand what you are doing to your phone, you dont need to do anything to it.
if you want to get pissy because you didnt understand the difference between a firmware version and a rom, then fine. this website is not here to 'make your phone cool'

I'm hoping that the dev for UnNamed will incorporate a newer 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 base for their roms soon for further development. Maybe they're waiting for ICS like most other Devs?

The ROM Dev has to recreate the ROM on that base. Currently UnNamed is based off 2.3.4 and the dev will have to redo all his mods he incorporated in the 2.3.4 base into the new 2.3.6 base or other..... which he decides if at all. So basically you are at the mercy of the rom dev.

gtg's policy is just like mine - Unless there is a MAJOR reason to rebase on a leak, we don't do it. Leaks are a major hassle for ROM developers (and kernel devs) unless the leak offers a major feature. UXKG3 (Rogers Gingerbread) for the Infuse was such a ****ty release it actually did make sense to pull stuff from the AT&T leaks, however, completely rebasing onto them caused tons of problems for gtg (broken GPS, broken modems, wonky data, etc.) when he tried to pull in too much. In the end all he did was pull the camera libs (the only significant improvement).
So you'll see UnNamed move to 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 when an official AT&T update comes out based on it, or a MAJOR feature shows up (and even then, it's more likely to just get backported like the camera libs on Infuse.)

Hello, noob here! My OTA update failed so I installed UnNamed v2.1.1 (Based on UCKK6, Android 2.3.6). ROMs poll

I've been on unnamed for a while and cognition before that. I came from Cognition on the Captivate, so it's obvious I prefer a mostly stock ROM. Both of these ROMs are no longer supported though, so gathering opinions on where to go. If anyone suggests something please say why. Thanks
ShoStock is still getting updates.
My favorite is villainrom 3.0 hellraised with the latest version of the siyah kernel
CyanogenMod is pretty nice, its my first non-stock rom. The only thing I miss is the stock Samsung alarm clock. Its worth a try for a day or two at least.

These kinds of thread are really a gray area for us.
On one hand, there is nothing wrong wanting to get user's opinions. For somebody who is unsure, getting experience from others about what is good and what is bad can be really useful.
On the other hand, you can't just ask "What is the best". For one, since there are different versions of android builds, no one can just say what the "best" is. For some people, the best can be the most bleeding edge build even with broken functionality. For others, they may value stability the most; and for even more, they may want a build with tons of extra features.
So, with that said - OP: i welcome you to rephrase your question, preferably about some specific ROMs that you might have in mind, as well as what your needs are. Otherwise, i will close this down per board rules..
If you know how to flash roms and you are comfortable with it then just try them. Thats the best advice any of us can really give you. Im on sensation rom and that is still alive and a great rom, but its really up to you. ShoStock is your best bet to stay stock though.
Every quit your *****in'
ANYWAY
I've stuck with ICScrewD and Siyah for the past several months keeping up with the updates and I've been pretty pleased with my battery life and performance. I also switch to Entropy's DD occasionally. It's all stable
Try some various ones out man. Like poster above said if you feel comfortable flashing then it can become trial and error. You'll eventually find the one that suits you

First and foremost I'm a HUGE Miami Dolphins fan...It's a shame that you're such a facist

I apologize if I wasn't clear when I said "I prefer a stock experience". I use BT extensively in my car, so I was looking for a MOSTLY stock ROM with finctionality being a priority, would prefer to keep TW as well. Basically, something along the lines of COGNITION or UNNAMED, but, a ROM that keeps getting updates. I wasn't trying to cause problems, but, I really don't feel like going through the 5000 ROMS for this phone; I didn't think asking other users opinions was that bad. I did post in the GENERAL section. I hope that clears it up, if not, delete if you must.

Any desire for a choice of stock?

I have lots of my old unreleased roms stored up and am curious if you guys would like them.
These are the 2.2.1 i9000 releases, with signal fixes and home key haptic feedback.
The ones I haven't done I can get done in about a half hour. In fact, to get back in the swing of things, I have been redeodexing, fixing signal reboot and adding haptic to them one at a time - very helpful as a learning experience for me as my "Chemo Brain" sucked tons of knowledge away and I have to relearn a lot of it.
Anyway, do you guys have any interest in these or any of my unreleased past roms? I don't want to start a new thread if there is no demand for it.
Let me know!
Absolutely!!

Are they all pretty much the same? 2.2.1 based, differently themed etc. I honestly don't know how much you can change in like 8 ROMS on the same firmware.
If they are, I would just say Make one ROM thats the most stable; and then put the others as themes possibly for that one ROM?
I think you should also move along to ICS as the other devs have done, possibly join one of the devs and work with them rather than creating the same ROM, like there are right now about 8 AOKP Roms, which run the same, have a different kernel.
I'm interested in stock style 2.2 roms. Now that megauploads is gone most of the links in here are dead and we're stuck with ICS roms aren't 100% working or 2.2 roms that are so tweaked they're unreliable at best.

I did and had either problems with bluetooth, gps, mute/unmute, mic problems (which killed my bt headset), or all of them at the same time. They were all pretty bad. I need a phone that 100% works and ICS hasn't offered that yet. When it does I might switch but right now I'm content on near stock 2.2. All out speed isn't worth reliably IMO.
Jellete, i'm interested. I still have your BOJS5 rom on my sdcard. I'm sure people will love your new rom. Thanks
Chemo brain? Where have you been jellette. I thought you just moved on to other devices like our other good old devs. Were you not well?

Yep, I HAD cancer - radiation and chemotherapy seem to have taken care of it though!

Cancer effing sucks. But at least you get to talk about it in the PAST tense! That's awesome!
My wife is a survivor - we got into Relay for Life. I'll be thinking of you this June when we relay!
Oh - and my wife still has 'chemo brain' - and her last infusion was in 2002.
