The Galaxy s and verizon Logo disappeared after i flashed to the new kernel..

Which kernal? Some would consider losing those boot logos a fix in and of themselves.

Try d/l a bootanimaton.zip in /data/local/ directory and see what happens. Maybe jt or dirrk removed the commands to play Samsung's qrm splash animation and so it trys to do the legacy bootanimation.zip method.

It's still there with jt's kernal.
Hopefully JT or Dirrk can fix this in their next kernel so that way we can fully do bootanimations.zip without lags.

Bootanimation zip files won't work on our fascinates. They are using a .qmg file system on the boot animation so the normal bootanimation.zip to change the boot screen won't work.

i pushed them through with root explorer. works fine
I haven't tried it yet but I just looked it. It's a .qmg, not the bootanimation.zip that a lot of ROMs use. The shutdown should work fine, but the boot animation won't on ROMs that use bootanimation.zip (including Nero). It can be converted, I've never done it before but I'll check it out. If anyone knows what they're doing and could probably beat me to it, please do!

Shouldn't matter what recovery you use. As long as the update.zip is signed properly, it will do what it's supposed to do either way. But like I said, not compatible with all ROMs in this format.

i agree that it doeant work on all roms. i deleted the bootanimation amd now i have a android logo across the new bootup image.

older version of CWM would crap out on me when using the updater binary, I just tried with
CWM 2.5.1.2 and install went fine.
rebooted only on axura and there are now the too rebooted

just like the title says, boot animations dont work. Since i loaded the 1.3 rom into my phone, no boot animations have shown up. My phone would load from the Vibrant screen, into a completely black screen that lasts about 5 seconds, into the home screen. I then tried to load a different boot animation and nothing happens, just the same black screen. So i guess my questions are 1) why wont the other boot animations i loaded work? and 2) is the black screen the stock bionix boot animation?

try re-flashing the ROM
what kernel are you running? it must be a kernel that supports bootanimation.zip.
stock kernel does not, fyi
also make sure that the bootanimation.zip is tailored for the vibrant (.png resolution), and that images are named correctly, and that the folder structure is accurate if you made changes. the desc.txt file inside the zip calls for a certain number of images that have a certain name.
if that confuses you^^^ then just remember this: if you make changes to a bootanimation.zip, always make sure your changes mirror the original setup (image size, name, type, folder structure, same desc.txt file, etc.)
check on this stuff and then post back with what you find

arrrghh...this and "ODIN back to stock" have become everyones answer to every problem!!!!
there are plenty of other steps he can take before going through the trouble of reflashing the ROM.....people will never learn anything if they just reflash or ODIN everytime something happens

what does the stock bionix boot animation look like? And to make it clear... the stock kernel that came with bionix doesnt support bootanimations? i have loaded different ones (boot animations) before on Nero, and they worked perfectly. I grabbed them right here on xda. So i somewhat have an idea of what im doing. But i havent messed with any kernels since i loaded this rom, maybe i need to flash a different one? any suggestions?

i dont know what kernel comes with bionix, it will say in the OP of the ROM....and i dont know what the bootanimation looks like....never used the ROM

The stock Bionix-V boot animation is black w/ "Team Whiskey" appearing in white letters repeating....the kernel that Bionix-V comes with DOES support bootanimation.zip....cuz i'm using my Matrix Red one now.....if it didn't have a bootnaimation.zip then it would just show the stock "Android" boot screen....so its is something that you're doing wrong....are you grabbing some that are from other phone forums on XDA or are you getting them from Vibrant section of XDA?

im getting them from right here in the vibrant section. and theres no way i did anything wrong because i havent seen a boot animation since the FIRST flash (1.3) it has always gone VIBRANT > BLACK SCREEN > UI. No stock android bootscreen no nothing! when i originally loaded bionix V, the TW boot animations worked and showed up. But it hasnt since i updated to 1.3....
go into system/media with root explorer or super manager and rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak then use it to move your bootanimation.zip you want to use into system/media and make sure you set permissions to rw--r--r--

i have the same problem!!
i have the same problem, no matter which boot animation i put - it doesnt work.
it shows the original android boot animation.
the thing is that team whiskey's boot animation DOES works..

I found the solution!!
I used ES File manager to copy the file, but this app doesnt has CHMOD changing.
you need to give the .zip file CHMOD 777 (read/write/execute permissions) in order it to work.
Try using "Absolute System" from the android market I'm running bionix as well and it works perfect for me, and it is SUPER easy to use

I spent about 6-8 hours building and customizing every frame, i couldn't stand that BRIGHT At$T animation that came on before so i had to replace it.
I dropped it down to 10fps because i made it go by to fast at 15fps.
and the first few version lagged a little but Ive optimized the animation files a little to make it lag less.
I still get a stutter while the matrix part is going down but other then that its pretty smooth.

It's very easy to do this without a flashable zip.
For the boot logo, follow the instructions here, (most of you will only need to follow the sixth instruction) -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16019521&postcount=1.
For the boot animation, just backup your current animation in /system/media by renaming it, then copy the boot animation from here into that location and rename to bootanimation.zip.
Reboot and you are all set. Takes less than 5 minutes!

You copied and pasted his boot animation into one of mine and never changed the update script, so it says Green Matrix on install. I'll fix it now.
Also, as a FYI to everyone, this is just the boot animation, not the boot logo.

totally agree, perfect with Alien. Just wish the android logo would appear for the duration of the animation so there's no black screen.
Here is the CWM version with updated script. I also included the boot logo files in the zip, although they won't be flashed. I'll look at extending the animation tonight when I get home and have more time if the OP doesn't get to it first.

Atrix stuck in loop at flashing m logo

I just finished the boot animation...
I usually don't package up boot animations into flashable zips since the boot animation file names are different depending on the ROM that you're running.

Boot animation won't take on DNA. System keeps reverting. Maybe its cause were no s-off, or I'm on stock rooted? I switched both boot animations the vzw_bootup.zip, and hTC_bootup.zip one and set permission rw-r-r. No luck. I know with adblock someone had to make a flashable zip for it to work properly.

Stock everything, just rooted and kept stock everything. No new Rom, or kernel. If this is an issue, I understand no problem.

I also don't have a bootanimation.zip file in the system/media folder so can't replace it - instead I have the bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg files.
Any other ideas how to install custom animation in this case?

It wont work for the i527 because the bootloader is locked so we cant use a custom rom if you look around they have ways to modify the samsung files so u can have a custom boot but its nothing as simple as a quick app or adding a file you need to move the samsung boot animation file to your desktop and modify it or create a custom one with tools then overwrite the system file.
If we had an unlocled bootloader we just install a custom rom or even twrp or tcwm or something then use that to install the samsung fix personally id into cyro but kind of impossible at the moment.
