[Q] Lost facebook account contacts after voodoo install - Fascinate Android Development

I just got done installing voodoo, and everything went very smoothly. 1735 quadrant score, and it fixed the lag I got when adding an application shortcut on the home screen. However when I went into contacts I noticed that all of my facebook contacts were missing. I thought no problem, I'll resync my facebook account. However, when I go into accounts and sync then add account all the integrated contact accounts are missing. I see the heading that says integrated contacts accounts, but nothing is listed underneath.
Under more accounts I can add a corporate or google, but if I click facebook it highlights but doesn't launch. I uninstalled voodoo without a problem, went into CWM and restored my backup I made right before voodoo. I still can't access the add facebook account.
Any ideas? I liked sync profile pictures, and checking updates in contacts.

That's weird man. Look in your system files to see if the social hub apk is still there. If so clear the data in settings-applications-manage applications.

I found I had to do a Factory data reset on my phone when I had a similar problem. I screwed up and had to return to stock and when I did, the facebook account friends would not sync up right. Did the factory reset from the Privacy menu and it's been working great since.

I think I figured out my problem. I moved back even further in my backups, and got one that still had facebook sync'd. I search through my system folder and noticed SNSaccount.apk was in the app folder. In the how to root, install cwm, remove bloat... thread it mentions that this file is ok to freeze. Well instead of freezing bloatware apps in titanium, I used root explorer to move them to a junk folder on the SD card.
That seemed to fix the issue. I reinstalled voodoo no problem, and facebook sync was fine. I alerted the OP in the sticky thread to mention that this issue might occur if the SNSaccount file is moved.

Why on earth would you remove apps?! Freeze instead!!
Check the second sticky in the General forum for answers on what to do next

This post is not about freezing it's about the Error which I have noticed a lot of people are experiencing. Some say it's due to Google + App, I have NEVER downloaded this app and I'm experiencing this issue. Need fixes that Don't involve losing my contacts.

u revived a rllly old topic...
anyway, if u synced ur contacts with Google, there is no worry, since it backups them, so u can do those fixes and sync them back later...

I can't my contacts won't do anything. I did export them to my SD card tho, but still trying to find a fix with out the reset.
I'm also posting on Motorola Forums.
and a few other places I mean this issue seams to be a random one but still affecting a lot of people. be nice to find a fix.
Okay I got a post from another person who went thru the same issue. It seam when Hotmail wento Outllok.com it messed up something. Here is a copy of his post
"I may be on to something here. I recently installed the MS Outlook app. That's when my contacts stopped working. I uninstalled both my Hotmail and Outlook apparently and restarted the phone. The contacts still wouldn't work. For some reason, I decided to reinstall the new Outlook app. After I did that, I was able to access my contacts again!"
I did uninstall both my hotmail app and outlook.com app, Restarted (pulling battery) then it worked. I reinstalled Outlook.com and it still working. So that is how my issue got fixed. hope it helps others out.

Have to agree with Hotmail app being the problem. I have had FC problem for a while(around the same i was forced to start using the new outlook.com webmail). Uninstalling the Hotmail app fixed the issue(Also installed new Outlook app and still works). Thx!!!

I TiBu-froze "Motorola Services" and lost my phone contacts.

Background: I noticed that Motorola Services was eating a bunch of my battery, so I froze it with TiBu. Blur account disappeared, taking with it my phone contacts (not Gmail or Corporate Sync).
- Thawed the program, still gone.
- Wiped cache, still gone.
- Used Mybackup Root to restore all of my contacts (Gmail, Corporate, Moto services), which involves overwriting the old ones: nope. The contact app doesn't see the phone contacts thru Moto Services because it doesn't see my blur account.
Funny story: Airdroid still sees the phone contacts. They're hiding somewhere. Just not showing up in the contacts app, and I can't seem to download the contact list to my computer.
Does anyone have any ideas before I do a factory reset? I don't flash new roms often for a reason: setting everything back up is a PAIN, dammit.
Contacts > menu > display options
Make sure groups are selected to be displayed by selecting accounts, e.g. Google to expand it and ensure there are checks in groups you want to show up.

Yeah, the problem is I've been storing phone contacts under my Blur account which is what went missing thanks to me screwing around. The only groups available to check are my Gmail and work email, both of which were added by me after the initial setup procedure (and don't have phone numbers associated).
I did some more searching and it looks like others ran into the same problem, which isn't fixed by "thawing" the app. And, it looks like the only solution involves a factory reset. Maybe I'll upgrade my rom version while I'm at it... ah well.

Backing up contacts to Google

Hey XDA!
I have a rooted Samung Infuse with AT&T and am currently running ZEUS with few problems. I love this ROM but I am going to switch up and flash a newer ROM within the next few days. However, (back in January) before I got ZEUS, I went from the Stock ROM to MIUI and I used Titanium Backup to transfer all of my data. When I backed up contacts in the Stock ROM through Titanium and tried to restore them once I had MIUI, I kept getting force close messages that made the phone unusable because they were so frequent. I isolated the problem to be related with contacts and just deleted my saved contacts. The problem went away, but I ended up switching to ZEUS later, now with no contacts.
Anyway, I don't know if that was a random occurrence that happened only to me in my flashing process, but to avoid anything like that again, I'd like to be able to backup my contacts to Google. I've seen it mentioned several times here and on Google's site, but never did I find a how to or any sort of procedure. Can someone explain to me (as comprehensively as possible) how to backup my contacts to Google?
Any guidance or redirection would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Actually, you only need to activate the sync option on Settings >Sync (or account settings, I dunno). All your contacts will be uploaded to your GMail account, and downloaded to your phone the next time
You can also make a manual backup, doing this:
Go to Phone >Contacts >press Menu key >Import/export >export contacts to SD. So, when you need your contacts, follow the same procedure, choosing now Import contacts from SD.

Thanks a lot! I tried every manner of playing with the settings possible. I had the account sync multiple times, but none of the contacts actually stored when I checked on a computer. I'm just gonna settle with the backups from Titanium, my SD card, and my Sim. No worries!

Contacts disappearing after reboot on ICS

I've got an HTC Desire HD that's been rooted and have tried out several ROMs, the last couple have been ICS. I would like to stay with an ICS ROM but there seems to be an issue with contacts. I sync my contacts (and calendar) with Outlook via MyPhoneExplorer, Google isn't in the running here. On GB all is fine and both contacts and calendar go into a 'phone' memory. With ICS this 'phone' memory has gone and you have to sync with your gmail account locally. With ICS the calendar is fine but if I reboot the phone (it gets switched off most nights) this causes all contacts to disappear. I usually use Contapps as my contacts app but the stock People app also shows the same behaviour. Tried all the settings I can think of, and SEARCHED the forums (and further afield) so far, but still the same.
In all cases I've set up my Google account but then turned off ALL synchronisation, as I want to keep things local to my phone and PC. The calendar works fine, it's just contacts. I've checked with my gmail account online and it does NOT have copies of my contacts or calendar so it would appear that 'not syncing' is not the issue as my phone's calendar keeps it's data intact.
Also, call history doesn't seem to get deleted either but you obviously just get the phone number in each entry, with no contact details.
Using the stock People app to check (though other contact apps show the same lack of contacts!). I've tried 3 different ICS ROMs and at least two have shown the problem (the 3rd may have done but that was the first I installed and may not have checked). I've seen other comments both on xda and the wider interweb that indicate that I'm not the first to see this but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on the solution, if any.
Can anyone shed any light on the issue? Or at least have details on how Google changed contacts operations in ICS?
Oh, I know that I "could" sync with Google, but I don't want to. I know all the arguments for and against and I'm in the "against" camp on this one so comments along the 'just sync with Google' line aren't that useful. No disrespect to those that think differently ....

OK. More information. I've noticed that the contacts database file .... /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db ... gets overwritten on the 2nd reboot. (File Manager tells me its a smaller file AND the timestamp gets updated). I've deleted ALL files in ... /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/ ... and they get re-created on a reboot but after syncing they still get overwritten on the 2nd reboot.
I've also tried to 'fix permissions' from ROM Manager but no change.
Anyone any clues as to what could be going on?
Ta.
Thought I'd sussed it. Did a factory reset, re-installed all my apps via Titanium Backup then used Rom Manager's 'fix permissions' (and rebooted obviously). Reinstalled my contacts and it took until the 3rd reboot before they disappeared again ... :crying: However, I now have a 'Me' profile I created and this does NOT get deleted. As the file is in the same directory and has the same permissions there has to be some boot process "amending" the contacts2.db file. But what the heck is it? Anyone point me to docs. that describe the supposed Android boot sequence?

wierd bookmark issue after ota update, need assistance

So I did the ota update. All is well except that somehow every link from the favorites I have on my computer now show up as bookmarks. I go into edit bookmarks and it doesn't show all that stuff. So I erased all the bookmarks that were there. But all these links still show up if I put the bookmark widget on a page. I don't know how to get rid of these things.
Another issue, the stupid facebook app put everyone in my friends list into my contacts list and I don't know how to get rid of them with.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Any random issues like this can be solved by doing a factory reset. As you may or may not know, rooted users always do a full data wipe when flashing a different rom. This is because if you just update the system data (like an OTA update does) you will run into random issues like this.

Go into the settings of the Facebook app, and select Sync None. Or go into the People app settings, and uncheck Sync Facebook.
Did a factory reset and the bookmarts from my comp are still showing up if I use the bookmark widget. But if I actually goin to look at the bookmarks it shows nothing there. Is there possibly some kind of PC sync through google pulling these off my laptop?

Ahh sorry I read your first post wrong. That is normal with ICS, it's a feature that will automatically import any bookmarks and open tabs you have from Chrome on a PC. I'm really not sure how to disable this feature, I actually like it. I would assume it would be a setting on the PC side in Chrome, but I'm not sure.
Funny thing is that I don't use Chrome. I just have a gmail account. But anyways, I figured out what the issue was.
When you go through the setup and synching process after a factory reset the Google app does it. The key is to choose to sync everything manually instead of automatically. There's now an "Internet Sync" under the Google account in "Accounts & Sync". It is a neat feature but I have probably 500 or more links in my Favorites folder on my comp. That's a ton of links I don't need on my phone.

Hmm so it's not through Chrome? Then how is the GMail account pulling the bookmarks from the PC? I just assumed it was from Chrome since that's what I use on my pc. I also have a lot of bookmarks on my pc, which is a bit annoying, but it's nice if I'm away from my pc and need to pull up one of them. I wish there was a way to just have a separate bookmark folder for syncing with the phone.
It is through Chrome. I forgot that I tried Chrome for a day or two but didn't like it so uninstalled it. All that stuff got put into my gmail account when I did that.
If you signed into your gmail account all sync data is automatically sent to your phone, it's an easy way to backup all your contacts, makes my life so easy.
