so I have a vibrant and was running 1.6 bionix mod on it, and i figured i would download 1.7 and flash it over. But before I did I wanted to flash back to stock via odin to download the OTA but when I did that I get a black screen after the galaxy s logo..I have looked and searched these forums and

PS. ever since i used odin to flash Euguenes froyo rom whenever I start up the phone it goes straight to android system recovery and I do not have the option to do anything else. HELPPP

your phone doesn't have to be rooted to use adb ...
When your phone throws you into recovery with that media error, unplug your phone for 5 seconds, and plug it back in. Eugene put that in the instructions, and i didn't read that part either lol. If adb still doesn't work, you need to dl the right drivers again

when you unplug the phone and re plug in what should the phone do?
is it just so the computer recognizes the phone or does it boot something up?

nothing will happen on the phone, but your computer and adb will recognize the phone

Haha no problem. As for Voodoo ... i never ventured there. I usually stick with JAC's or King Kilikkk's, but here's the uninstall/verification for Voodoo. Try it b4 you flash anything else just to be safe.
How-to Disable the Voodoo Lagfix:
1. Once again, you MUST disable the Voodoo lag fix in order to flash any other rom, kernel, or perform a nandroid backup. If you don't...well....lets just say I warned you.
2. Its simple. Create a folder on the root of your sdcard called 'Voodoo'.
3. Now, open notepad or something similar and save the blank file. Name it 'disable-lagfix'. This file cannot have any file extension, so remove it if it does.
4. Place your blank file into the 'Voodoo' folder you made on your sdcard.
5. In order to disable, simply power down your phone and power it back up.
6. FINISHED! You can now flash anything you'd like!
How-to Confirm Voodoo Lagfix is Disabled:
1. In adb shell or terminal type 'mount'
2. If it is disabled is should read '/dev/block/mmcblk0p2'.
3. If it is not disabled, it will read '/dev/block/mmcblk0p4'.

Phone is rooted and I believe Ive got a lag fix installed.
No idea what I need to do - did a quick looksie through the JI6 thread and I didnt see anything in particular about the update ****ign up anyones phone.
EDIT: The update is called JI6 right? Whatever I got automatically from tmobile is what messed it up.
I'm having the same problem. I'm thinking its because I had the lag fix before this.
If you have the voodoo lagfix then you may have to use odin to fix things. See the instructions on the first post of the thread for Simbionix for that.
With other lagfixes you may just be able to wipe the phone. Can you still access recovery?

I can access recovery. I really didnt want to lose things like contacts saved on my phone even though I dont give a piss about anything else. I dont think the contacts copied into SIM so I may be screwed on that.
If you had your Gmail synced, all the contacts should be on your gmail account, and it will not be wiped

Your contacts should be saved on your google account unless you disabled that.

The same thing happened to me.
I pushed bionix 1.6 to sdcard with adb.
Then flashed it with clockwork.
I am up again.
What a tmobile nighmare.
to disable vodoo lagfix
A quick and easy way to disable voodoo lagfix, is to just create a file or a folder inside of the voodoo folder called "disable lagfix". Worked for me, hopefully this helps.

take out battery and hold power up/down buttonswithe buttons pressed insert battery. you should see Vibrant logo once continue to hold once it goes blank then let go of all exept down button you should be in stock recovery now if you had clockwork recovery press reinstall packages you should now by in clockwork recovery if so flash again or flash some thing else hopefully a nandroid back up... good luck but you problem does not seem that serious keep at you'll be fine

Do you have adb setup? If so, put the bionix ROM in the tools folder of your SDK & type:
adb push *file directory/file name* /sdcard

Hmmm I think I remember about this other way to boot up where you can push stuff to the phone. How do I do that again? I have only been able to get to the Clockwork Recovery screen and need to get the Bionix zip file from my PC to the Vibrant using ADB which yes I have and it did work a while ago. I just forgot how to boot in that mode. Thanks!
I'm stuck as well. One small difference. I DO NOT have a lag fix installed. I uninstalled the One Click Lag Fix yesterday in preparation for the update.
Well, let me rephrase. The App is installed on the phone but the fix is not applied.
Any thoughts?
Side note. My screen has some how gotten scratched recently and I'm curious if this is a possible way to get a new screen (and phone) from Tmobile. The phone is rooted and I have a GPS fix applied but that's it.
EDIT: I wanted to add, while booting, the Vibrant screen obviously comes up but after a few seconds, the TMobile jingle STARTS to play. It quickly goes quiet and then continues to sit at the Vibrant screen.

I'm sort of in the same boat. Rooted, but haven't installed any of the lag fixes or gps fixes. I don't have clockwork installed. Is there any way for me to download the OTA to my SD card and try flashing it that way?

FYI. I had the same problems as the original OP, getting stuck at the boot screen after the update, due to having lag fix enabled. I finally got the true stock 2.1 firmware installed via ODIN. I've called T-Mobile requesting they push the update again and was told to do the following to send a message to google to have them push the update to my phone. It's been 30 minutes and nothing yet but I'm crossing my fingers. For the guys who haven't received the OTA update yet give this a shot.

One you complete the sequence all the numbers and characters should disappear leaving your dialer blank. Then you just sit and wait for the message to update your firmware. Hope this works!

One Click Lagfix from the marketplace immediately thereafter. Phone was blazing fast.
I decided to push my stupid limits. I tried to download and install Eugene's Vibrant Hybrid final ROM that would give me glorious, stock android. I followed the instructions I found for "installing a ROM":
Copy the zip to the root.
Boot into recovery.
Go into clockwork recovery.
factory reset.
install zip from sd card.
after that's done, reboot.
I got a little chimy, should-be-startup noise, (not the standard vibrant start-up noise, but what I expect would be the new ROM start-up noise I downloaded) and then nothing. Just the Vibrant screen.
I can boot into recovery mode, but I don't know what to do next. I tried to find the backup I made on Clockwork, but it was NOT THERE. I am now panicking and trying not to do anything stupid to my phone.
read on Eugene's site that it could be that I don't have the correct kernel flashed to support the ROM...? At this point, I kind of just want my phone back while having to lose the least amount of data. Please Help.

no, didn't realize that it would be an issue until after flashing the ROM. I think I'm stuck in a boot loop... and I have access to a mac only at the moment. Tomorrow I'll have access to a PC if ODIN could help at all...
Search for "froyo that doesnt brick your phone" flash if with odin and after that flash back to stock.

its just a simple user error. Honestly imo opinion, if you are using the lagfix option found on the market, flashing to other roms reformats /data and /system and such undoing it. So thats not where your issue came from the flashing. Before the flash, if you were on stock jdf, the flashing the hybrid final rom didnt update your baseband/modem.bin and i am pretty sure that would put you in your situation. Possible situation number 2. You had the ota update on your phone already. Meaning you were running ji6 then the rom update.zip may have been corrupted or incomplete.
to fix either one of these situations is simple. As long as the answer to my next question is a hell no. Did you flash jacs xmod voodoo kernel after you flash the hybrid rom?? The faster you reply to this the faster i can get to to a solution. You will also need a computer that has adb installed and properly recognizing your phone.
IF YOU DID FLASH THE VOODOO LAGFIX YOU WILL NEED ACCESS TO A COMPUTER WITH ODIN AND ANDROID SDK!! WETHER IT BE A MAC WITH PARRELLS OR A VM OR LINIX OR WINDOWS.

That is not true. Anything on his internal memory will be perfectly intact. And if he can still get into cwm recovery, he adb push a few files to the root of his sd card and boot right up depending the cause

I didn't flash **** after that. Just the Hybrid mod, then I was stuck. The steps I mentioned in my process were the only things that ever ever happened.
also, yes, I (was) running JI6 as well. Until this fiasco.
Eugene's thread for the hybrid mod also has files posted for, quote, "reboots and freezes" with the file name JFDkernanmodemji2.zip. All things that have been mentioned positively at one point or another in this thread. Since I am pretty sure I don't have the appropriate kernel to run the ROM, do I simply push the JFDkernanmodemji2.zip file to my root, flash it, then flash the ROM again and life will be good?

boot your phone into clockwork recovery and plug in to computer. Then open a command prompt window. you can type in cmd into search bar in windows to open it up. Then type adb devices into the little black window. tell me what happens when you do this. Do you have gtalk or aim? This will go by faster If you have one

I flashed JK6 + voodoo over my stock froyo. now i can't get back to clockwork recovery, i have tried everything and i cant get even into download mode, but my phone turns on perfectly fine... idk what it is or how to fix it can someone help? my phone's fine right now but if i try to go into recovery it gives me and error: code-7 , which i have never had or even seen before and i tried to flash clockwork recovery again and it said it flashed just fine, but it won't work.... help me someone. thanks
it sound's like you have a 3e recovery now and CWM doesn't work with stock 3e recovery. you need to modify it using the information from this
post.
also if you have adb setup on your computer, and you want to go back to stock and start over but can't access download mode from buttons, just use
adb reboot download
another way is right on the phone, download terminal emulator and use
su
reboot download
also works for getting to stock recovery(not sure why you would need to other than to flash CWM from SD card..)

I suggest you disable voodoo then retry it... Voodoo is real tricky when it come to certain things.. if you go to Team Wiskeys website, the have a tutorial on how to do it.. then try to redo OCLF. i myself use Eugenes kernal B_Stock_1120_100 Kernel #20..... and the Lagfix... letme know how it goes... but ALWAYS disable voodoo before you do any flashing!! or system changes.
Just my 2cents... thats how i overcame the CWR... besides flashing a stock Kernal and starting from scratch..

With the Voodoo kernel recently released you DO NOT use clockwork as you're used to seeing it, ie, green text version, and going through rom manager and rebooting into recovery from there will not get you where you want to go. Reason being, the voodoo kernel you flashed has a new version of clockwork to work with. When you see the red text clockwork, you know you are there.
Now how to get there. If you are familiar with adb, use "reboot recovery" command and you'll be there. If adb is not your bag, dowload android terminal emulator from the market. Open it, type "su" and press enter. Accept the superuser prompt. You may have to hit your menu button and toggle keyboard button to bring your kb back after the su command. Then type "reboot recovery" and press enter, your phone will now reboot into the red text voodoo version of clockwork. All command listed are of course typed without the quotations. Good luck, its really easy, and mentioned in the voodoo thread, along with other tips for your reference.

You have recovery, just a different version now. To disable voodoo, you can use the good old fasioned method of creating a folder inside the voodoo folder, named "disable lagfix", no quotes, reboot your phone and listen to linda do her work, or use the voodoo lagfix menu in the red recovery to disable it. Note you will still have red clockwork until you flash a different kernel, after disabling voodoo of course.

Which is cool, except. My drivers are messed up and I have parental controls on and yada yada... So I cant install the drivers unless I use a friends computer or something. But its cool. Thanks man
One more thing that might help. Last week zimphishmonger started a thread and found a fix for the new voodoo not disabling correctly. Find it and there is a flashable that replaces the format.fat file on the phone and on some phones lets voodoo didable. Search it and try it. I'll try to post a link when I get around a pc.

But now I'm trying to simply boot into recovery to flash my backup of my other gingerbread ROM that actually worked. I boot into bootloader and it automatically tries updating the radio and there is no possible way to boot into recovery.
I don't know what to do.
When it asks you to install update, what if you say no, then you should be able to boot into recovery from the bootloader.

Like g00s3y said, you must first remove the file you were trying (or successfully) flashed off your sd card. It's always best to remove this file once youre done with it. In your case you will probably need to use a sd card reader unless you can get your phone to mount.

I got the exact same problem
I ran into the same problem last night. I hooked my phone up to my laptop which has adb installed. When you're stuck at the start up screen, in a command prompt just type:
adb devices
You should see your phone show up under devices. If it shows up, then just type:
adb reboot recovery
This will get you into your recovery, and I just started the whole process over again. The 2nd time through everything worked great.
Hope this helps. (my phone wouldn't hard boot in to recovery, which I'm assuming is your problems also)
To hard boot into recovery, just hold the volume up key and turn the phone on. (correct me if I'm wrong)
Now I went and did it!
OK, so I was loading a new ROM and something went terribly wrong. I got stuck on the HTC, quietly brilliant screen. I then tried to boot into recovery thinking I would just restore the back up I had made and for some reason it jumped right to the HBoot and ran through some sequence of commands. Next thing I know I don't have root! So I'm screwing around trying to get adb to work on my computer and having problems with that. I try to recover again on the phone (power button and down volume) and notice that I still have s-off. Doesn't that mean I have root? But I also can't find a super user on the phone and none of my 'rooted' only programs work, they all say I don't have root. What do I do now?
Hboot is vol down and power.. not recovery. What that did was look for an update file on your SD card and flashed it. When you rooted your phone did you use the 1 click root? If so you probably just need to do step 3 again.. which gives you root and the super user app.. hopefully that's all it takes. When your done go into your SD card and remove the PG05 (there's more to the name don't have the whole file name memorized) zip file that's on there so it doesn't happen again

You will have to re-root now. This should teach you to be more careful and not just go randomly flashing and updating things. Read up some more before just trying things.
Yeah probably like he said your best bet is to re do the whole process.. Idk what you flashed on your phone or anything so just be careful and do your research before jumping into things.

When flashing a new rom make sure you check the md5sum. You can do this in adb or dl a program, just google it. If the md5sum comes back with the correct number then you know the dl isn't corrupted and you have the correct dl.
But as far as your current problem, you need to re-root.
Research your steps before you do them. I'm NOT a fan of 1-click. If you do it manually, and one step seems not to go right, then stop and ask on the forums. Someone should respond.
So basically i got the ICS Encryption unsuccessful error and now my phone wont get past the vibrant splash screen. I tried odining back to stock but it just goes to splash screen and then turns off. i cant get into recovery mode. please please pleaseeee help!
jig or get to download mode

then flash back to stock then try not too "brick" the unbrickable vibrant again.
this does not fix the problem. the /data partition is the cause of the problem and i dont know how to fix it. repartitioning in odin doesn't fix it either. :/

and then what? anything i flash gets me bootloader screen. eugene's unbrickable rom gets me to stock recovery but buttons dont work in that rom to let me select anything.
Unfortunetly there is no fix as of now. The problem seems to be the internal flash memory 16gb is unable to mount. SD card (External) mounts perfectly fine as i was able to pull some files using adb commands. Hope you have a spare phone cuz there is no way to fix your phone as of today.
A warning to ICS rom users. You phone could potentially become paperweight so be extremely careful. You might want to consider using Gingerbread or some other rom other than ICS until someone finds a solution to this problem.

The buttons in recovery don't work after flashing Eugene's rom.
You can only reboot your phone through the adb command:
adb reboot
Of course you must also have the android debugging bridge installed on your computer to issue these commands. Including the SDK. Good luck.
i have two other vibrants in my family right now. what do you think i could do with those to fix mine?

I have been reading most of the morning and am looking into some things. Alex's thread does show how to workaround the problem but it seems that the internal sd is lost (for now).
Since you are not the only one this happened to, I would like to know the above and see if it correlates to the others that this happened to in the Vibrant section. I'll post the same in their threads too.

i was running ICS Passion 13 with the Kiss kernel that came with it. and i've looked around and many people with ics have gotten this problem both on our device and on the AT&T's captivate.
If you loaded Eugene's rom, and are stuck at the recovery, don't wait so long to type that adb reboot command and don't unplug the usb just type the command. let the rom load then get the phone back in download mode and flash the stock rom.
Eugene's rom properly set up will fix your issue. try again!

that wouldn't work as the /data partition isn't being red by the phone. Nothing happens when i try that command.
These are the instructions, Eugene's rom write like a lowlevel format, either you are not following directions or you actually bricked the vibrant.
But....you say you've made it to Eugene's recovery if you did you should be good to go.

First,
You must already Have Odin installed & Know how to boot into Down-loader Mode!!
Do Not Select Repartition In ODIN Flasher
