[Q] Vibrant warranty and replacement? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I recently began experiencing network issues on my Vibrant (would not work on 3G, only EDGE) which did not go away with any troubleshooting steps.
Yesterday, it crapped out completely and refused to connect to the network at all. No calls, no data, just a "Not Registered On Network" message. It wasn't the SIM card either.
I did a soft reset, hard reset, factory reset, and ended up flashing the latest Bionix rom (1.9?) with Voodoo and the whole deal. That still didn't work so I called T-mobile and requested they replace it under warranty.
So my questions are:
1) The phone is not only rooted, but flashed with Bionix 1.9 (JAC UV Voodoo). Will that cause problems with the warranty?
2) If yes, would flashing to a stock ROM fix that (disable Voodoo and restore from Odin)?
3) If the warranty is VOID, what will TMO do?
I asked the rep but she wasn't very helpful at all.
Thanks!

You coyld just delete everything on the phone all apk all apps and send it in all there going to so is reinstall there info when you send it back I don't think that they communicate with eachother about stuff like that if they did customer service would know more about flashing roms and actually be able to help more when something gos wrong other than a series of resets
The guy on the couch

I would flash it back to stock via odin... why take the risk they might say something. Its easy takes and takes next to no time to do.

That's what I'm thinking too. I'm going to do that. Does that clear root though?
@willsnews, I'll try that too. I don't want any trace of my stuff on the phone anyway.

replacement phone
ezspassov ... mind sharing the status of your replacement? my tmo samsung vibrant (18 days old) crapped out on the 12th within 24 hours of receiving the JI6 update from tmo. phone will no longer boot. got it to boot a couple of times but all the apps force close even after a user data wipe (guessing it's a hardware problem). tmo was to express ship out a replacement but today the order status was changed to BACKORDERED! did you get your phone or is it also backordered?

Yes, flashing the stock rom through odin will remove any system traces of root. On the other hand, make sure your smart and delete any evidence manually through the file manager on your internal and external sd card. For example: Don't leave a bunch of zip files lying around named "Root", "Bionix rom", etc....Be smart...

That's crazy because I am having the same issue actually. I had to order a new one.
Anyway, the loyalty rep assured me it would be easier for me to just do a warranty exchange (and assured me it would be brand new, which I doubt very much but eh whatever) instead of of sending back this one and doing a whole new order and waiting long times for my account to be credited and all this crap.... anyway I went along with it. Well I called today to get the tracking number cause she told me to and found out it was on backorder. Hoping it isn't on backorder for to long cause I want to get to enjoy my phone fully.
I asked if I could just send this phone back, they could cancel the exchange, and then place a new order (the backorder is only for exchanges they told me) that way I know for sure I am receiving a new phone cause I am still under the 14 day buyers remorse period but after a 20 minute wait, yes 20 minutes, they came back and said they couldn't place the order at all (I was going to pay with my cc).
So I said eh whatever just go ahead with the exchange in hopes that it won't be to long before they come. I know the rep told me they've been on backorder since the 13th, smh.

So..
So what if I had flashed nero beta 2 and the phones rooted and not only can I not enter clockwork recovery anymore but my phone isn't recognized on the USB ports so I can't Odin back to stock. I get the "USB device not recognized" even though I've manually installed all samsung vibrant drivers. How would I go about erasing all the data now? Any help would be great cause I'm not sure what I can do with the phone now.

TOUCH PANEL-fail

I receive this error when I boot into fastboot or HBoot modes. When I power on normally, it boots up fine (takes longer than usual), the slider lock screen comes on BUT the touchscreen doesn't work.
Also, this phone is flashed to Cricket (I'm not a Verizon customer) so while the phone is technically under warranty, I'm not sure Verizon will honor the warranty.
Any thoughts?
Downgrade to 1.5 if possible.
PCDPhones can probably fix it, the warranty is technically through them.
I'd go to their website and call them up. They'll have you mail your phone to them. OR find a Verizon friend that you can re-flash the phone back to Verizon, and take it into a Verizon store. They will either give that person an exchange or mail them a new phone.
If you send your phone to PCDPhones, it can be 2 weeks, but they DO honor the warranty. Possibly if you take it to Verizon as well, I'm NOT sure. I know HTC still honors this warranty, and it's done through PCDPhones. Sounds like your touch screen went bad.
You could try to downgrade if you're worried that you won't be under warranty, with http://www.androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/ in the All Things Root area in AcidBaths' thread on his first post there, hboot and all, so that you're "covered by warranty" - to be honest I bet if it's a physical problem - which it sounds like it is - they won't care about the software anyway
ok so I got the $5.18/ month insurance from Verizon, they tried to offer a $6.99/month plan that adds a 6 month warranty to the exchange and then took it back saying you cant with the thunderbolt.
So my question is should I just tell them I lost the phone and get to keep the battery, sd card, and possibly fix the touch screen later to put it on Metro PCS? Verizon says they cover lost phones, does anyone know if I will have more trouble if my phone is lost versus broken?
Also if its broken is there anyway of getting out of the $100 deductible?
Anyone know if I have to wait a day after adding insurance or any trouble I will run into with this?

Exchanging SGS2

I need some advice please.
When I received my SGS2, it had a couple of problems. A few of the games I played made the screen freeze and the 3g keeps dropping out even though my Nexus One with the same sim holds a strong signal. I contacted the suppliers and they were able to offer me an exchange, so they are going to send me a new phone and take the defective one back (courier will do the swap-over). Thinking that I was getting a new phone, I thought I would root the one I have as a practice. I have also downloaded the rom that gets rid of the triangle.
My questions are:-
Where can I find the binary counter, I have gone into download mode and cannot see where it tells me how many roms I have downloaded.
Secondly I have ordered a USB jig from DH2311 but I know he has been snowed under with orders and I dont think I will get it in time, as the phone exchange is happening on Tuesday.
When I first reported the fault the phone company said that due to zero stock, I would have to wait for upto 5 weeks for a new one, instead it is now coming after just over a week.
So will the phone company check to see if I have rooted even though I will already have the new replacement and will they try and charge me for the second phone through my phone account as it was rooted.
Thanks for any advice.

Thats up to them and yes rooting invalidates warranty .
You can search for the Samsung Rooting post to service centres to confirm .
download mode then its says button up .

Called Verizon trying for replacement. They said put in safe mode.

I told them that my phone was overheating and would freeze and shut off while on and off the charger after updating to ME7 (which it actually does). They told me to put it in safe mode for 24 hours and see what they find. I know I have to unroot it before putting it in safe mode. Anyone else have to do this to get a replacement? How did it work out for you?
That sounds like BS to me. Someone might tell you this in hopes that you somehow solve your own problem. But, I would just get irate and tell them that it's their responsibility so give me a claim number and tell me where to send the phone.

Sigh Verizon and their Walmart Techs.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
I called verizon today, talked to the tech told him my phone kept losing 4g service and dropping my wifi signal all the time. Told them I restored it already twice and it didn't fix the issue. Tech said looks like you covered all area's you'll recieve your replacement in 2-4 days.
It's that simple :good:
My replacement phone I just received 2 days ago had no wifi strength and the bluetooth would skip when I was holding the phone (anyone ever heard of that happening?) I called them last night and told them I done everything I was supposed to (factory reset, troubleshooting) they over-nighted me a CLNR got it this morning. I'd call again and ask for someone else because I've never heard of safe mode on the phone-they just didn't want to do their job I believe....
I just wanted to make sure they can't get inside your phone or anything by putting it in safe mode. What should I tell them when I call back. Any messages or info come up when I take it out of safe mode that the tech may ask for?

Four tries before working replacement
I too had overheat problems w/ my phone(s). Including the original phone Verizon sent me four phones before a fulling working one arrived. The certified program, in my experience, is crap. I've gone through multiple models, S4 & Razr MAxx, when phones were replaced for faulty operation. Good news is the last, working, model S4 I recieved was still on MDK. It was rooted within the hour after receiving it. Eclipse ROM and never a problem since. Be persistent, call back as often as needed, and don't take no for an answer. And safe mode, bunch of bull****. Factory reset is only reliable fix. About half the time...

What they said-def keep calling back. I read in a post a few months back about someone saying Verizon was able to get into our phones to help look for the problem not sure how truthful that is-but I would not allow them to hop into your phone they could prob see if you rooted or not. My replacement was MDK thankfully all the bloat they put on these phones really burn me up. And sometimes it does take several replacements before you find one that is perfect-my husband went through 7 Rezound's before he got a good working one. Now I'm the one with the issues LOL

ATT Users Tip for Replacement Device!

I know it should be common sense but stupid me it wasn't so thought i'd pass it on here for anyone else in this situation.
Well having a device replaced under the 1yr warranty from ATT and got what seems to be now after i unlocked bootloader, twrp recovery, flashed custom rom, etc is now bunk! So i call ATT Warranty Exchange to tell them about my bunk refurbished device they sent me so i can get this one now exchanged for another. Well the lady said she needs to have me install some ATT app so she can basically diagnose my device first. I say ok so she sends me a text message with a link for app download and install, DO NOT DO THIS, HANG UP PHONE!!!
Well basically i downloaded and installed the app and what this does is gives ATT full access to your phone by remote! Not even a second after she connected to my device she says to me, "When did you root this phone?" I **** my damn pants and just denied everything and said i didn't and then she said well maybe since it's a refurbished device it was rooted before. Then she wanted to put me on hold it seems to get a supervisor to look further into it which i'm sure they would have then seen the date of root which is obviously after i received the device. So needless to say i hung up right away and deleted the damn app ASAP!
Now i'm worried to call back to Warranty to try again because i'm sure now she added on my account that i have a rooted device so who knows if they will help me now? Going to call them later tonight and see what happens. Will update this thread if people are interested so thought i'd just throw that tip out there. Worst comes to worst i have Square Trade warranty too for 2yrs so could just pay the deductible and get a new device from them but guess we'll see. Maybe just live with my device for another 4-5 months until the HTC M8 comes out?

bricked after ATT update

I was out of town and ignoring the notification to install an att update. I was in and out of wifi at my hotel and I think it downloaded about 9% of the official update. When I got home and under reliable wifi I decided to do the update. When I came back to the phone about 10 min later i had a blue screen with the message System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone please take to nearest AT&T store. I called att they conference called with Samsung and sent me to ubreakifix to look at it. They were able to get in download mode and the knox wasn't tripped but it only said Official Samsung in one of the 2 places the tech said it should (i think the binary didn't say official Samsung but I only saw it briefly). I have only had this phone for 2 months. It is NOT rooted. It wouldn't go into recovery Any thoughts?

Man, talk about a bad situation. I would try itekimei .com. Buy the unlocked package for $30. He will be able to flash your factory firmware back to the way it was. Granted you can get into recovery and download modes.
I wouldn't turn to At&T for that type of help. Carriers are usually pretty stupid when it comes to stuff like this. At least with my experience with t-mobile for 17 years.
* I should add I recently used itekimei .com for two galaxy s9+'s with success for CDMA carriers, I.E. verizon. But part of that process is flashing back your original firmware, which should be no problem for AT&T and t-mobile. They have access to the actual Samsung tools, they can do just about anything when it comes to flashing firmware. Which in your case, sounds like your best alternative.
I took it to the ubreakifix (authorized Samsung repair) They said they were going to call Samsung, if they gave them the go ahead it will be fixed under warranty, which it should in the first place, or they'd charge me $40 to flash back to factory.

And Itekimei will do it for $30, plus it will be carrier unlocked if you ever needed that. But he does the same process in the end, flashes back your factory firmware. So six one, half a dozen another. But with samsung, I don't think they will leave you carrier unlocked after they reflash your firmware.
But your right, it should be fixed under warranty. If that's an option for you that you want to take, then take it. I don't know how long they will take, the guy at itek takes about an hour to do the process. They have access to the same tools samsung does to flash phones, at least they claimed to me.
Thanks for the info, that will definitely be plan B.

No problem, but yeah that sounds like your solution anyways, is to have someone flash back your firmware. That will solve your problem.
ubreakifix couldn't fix it, they called samsung and they claim I rooted it. I DID NOT ROOT. used the help of iTekIMEI and he tried to flash stock firmware, he was unable to get it going too. Called Samsung directly they want me to send it in for analysis, sounds like they don't believe me either about not rooting.
