[Q] ATT Tilt 2 Screen Help - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

Hey,
I have an ATT tilt 2, running an Energy rom. It worked great till 3 days ago, when I noticed a "light" spot on the screen (about 50mm in diameter) , like something had scratched some film away.
I disregarded it as just that, a scratch, but the next day the screen was completely unresponsive. If I press on the spot, it "fills" with a darker color, I am guessing this is the digitizer pressing into the LCD screen, the screen then becomes responsive for a few seconds (Just long enough for me to reset my alarms!), but not always.
I have ready through these forums and online, and it sounds like I damaged something, digitizer or LCD, but I am not sure which I need to replace.
Also, I have read that replacing just one or the other can be problematic as they need to be aligned just so and with no particles in between, but I cannot find any Digitizer+LCD assemblies online for Tilt2...
So I guess what I am looking for is:
Based on above, do I need just Digitizer or LCD or Both?
Can you point me in the direction of a good vendor? The ones I have found are either selling just tmobile or generic replacements (which if I understand are incompatible with the att version cause of camera placement?) or are very unclear which version they are selling and do not clarify it in emails...
Thanks XDA Forums, keep up the good work!

Do You Have A Screen Protector On Your Phone?

@ Doo Doo
Nope, deluded myself into thinking I was careful enough to not need one... that mistake won't happen again ><

If it's under warranty, do an exchange. That would be the easiest/cheapest option. HTC provides a 15 month warranty normally. Going through your carrier would be a better option, however, as they usually just swap out the headset. If you have no warranty, then just search eBay or Google for the digitizer and LCD. They normally come together. Based on your description of the problem, you'll need both anyhow. Some come with instructions, and some don't. YouTube has a few videos detailing the replacement, though.

I have had a very similar problem on two Tilt 2s now. Looks like the glue leaks out of the side of the plastic over the lcd. Both phones did this on the right side of the screen.

Just in case anyone turns this up in a search like I did and can't swap the phone thru their carrier....
Global Parts Direct sells the ATT versions of these, though the LCD was out of stock at the time of this posting. (I'm too much a newb to post a direct link.)

I just had the same thing happen to me and I was able to swap the phone out with AT&T.
Oddly enough, the bubble wasn't there when I called AT&T but showed up the next day. My screen was unresponsive, called, went through a ton of questions but I had gone through this before with a couple of Fuze phones.
One thing I noticed before this happened which appears to be symptomatic before the phone becomes unresponsive is a large rectangle appears on the phone's LCD. It doesn't obstruct the viewing or anything I have just noticed that it has been on all my phones that have had trouble with the LCD/digitizer.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Random Spots Developing on TITANS / 6800's

I have the XV6800 and noticed that this phone over times developes some screen spots. I have one so far, and on my previous one that I returned (for other reasons) developed one also.
I read a thread on another website that Moguls / Titans develop it too.
Has any one else Developed this? If so is it fixable or is it something that might cause like sometype of recall and issue a fix where we might get phone replacements later on?
i have a light spot about the size a pea in the screens lower left-hand quadrant. It's noticeable it during the verizon boot-up screen with the white background, in word, etc. anything with a white background. Not noticeable if the screen is colored.
I've wondered if this was normal.
mine's got 3 of them now
same here, my burnin spot is also in the lower left-hand corner the size of a pea.
same here, lower left corner is lighter than the rest of the screen...looks like somebody missed something on QA

Yes, mine is in the exact same place. I read on another website that it might be an HTC issue because other TITAN's have gotten these spots also.
At first I thought that a picture image was burnt into my screen or that I might have pressed the screen to heavily and damaged it.
This has happened twice. I wonder if there is a fix because this is very annoying especialy when trying to read or watching a video.

I have a pc6800 through Alltel and just noticed the same problem three days ago...has anyone spoken with their SP and found out if they are replacing them?

I am afraid to take mine in since my all High and mighty Moister sticker now says void even though my phone hasn't been with in 100 feet of water. I find those stickers to be such BS...but that could just be me...I wish I could find some where to buy spare ones..

I am not entirely certain but I think the void sticker that is displayed by the battery is for the screw. I mean if you try to unscrew your phone to fiddle with the insides then that voids your warranty. I could be wrong.
The only concern would be that if we where to return the phone to get a replacement one, that we would have to flash our RADIOS and ROMS to stock if any one has flashed them to anything that is not stock.
The stickers on both of my alltel 6800's said void out of the box. Their explaination for this is the when the sticker get wet the words bleed and turn the entire sticker purple. Not sure how accurate the rep was but that is the story for what it is worth.

Yep..you are right . The void stickers are good until they turn a solid purple or red...weeehhh...I'm goin to go and replace my phone this week will let you know how it goes..and what they say
Yeah, mine's got a spot the size of a small pea in the bottom left-hand corner. Doesn't bother me too much yet though, I've got the insurance so I'll go get it replaced one of these days. For others that have tried to get them replaced, any troubles?
After doing some research on forums I noticed that many people have this problem.
Some say that it might be an issue with the phone heating up, faulty LCD manufacturing, the excess use of the vibration feature and so on......
But It seems that no matter what you ( such as gettting a replacement) your current or new phone might still get these spots.
It seems that not many carriers know about this issue, not even HTC.
So the problem might consist unless it is made known to them so they can create a fix for the new shipment of phones. Or else this will reoccur on the phones they have shipped out already.
It sucks because most of us paid a large amount of money for these devices to have it be faulty( not something that can be fixed via software at this moment). Just my opinion.
Ditto, same spot here. was wondering about the spot for a while. I have dropped mine a million times and thought it was because of that.
would be nice to be able to change it in because of the spot because mine is beat down to the ground like 4 flat tires.
will they give me crap because of how beat up it is?
I know every time I go to Alltel and get a phone replaced via the insurance the first question they ask the Rep at the store is if the phone looks like it has been dropped or if it has water damage....I'm sure that is so they can blame it on the user. As far as the phone being under manufacturer warranty they usually just swap it out for me no questions asked. I just always hate when they open the box infront of me and give nothing but the phone....would be nice to have an extra case and charger...LOL..
anyone know if sprint good about swapping phones and if i should do insurance or manufacturer warranty and if i do insurace can i switch to touch or you can only change phone in first thirty days
i got 2 spots in lower left corner
Me too (x3)
I've been through three Sprint-branded titans because of this. I'm 100% sure it's a design flaw. If we all complain at once, HTC might actually listen and make a titan that doesn't do this!
I also have two pea-sized spots in the lower left quadrant of the screen. Doesn't really bother me though, as I only notice it when the phone is booting up.
I've got 3 spots lower-lefthand corner as well on my Mogul.
I made a poll to actually see the statistics of the effects of these Spots on the TITAN / 6800

Replacing Lcd Screen caused by wild friend

Hello,
yesterday I installed some new games on my p4350 and let a friend play with it,
unfortunally he pushed to hard with the stylus and the screen got damaged . the screen is still working but it got a dent.
now I wanna replace the screen myself, anybody can give me instructions how to do this?
Also i wanna know if the soft layer on the top(not the screen protector) and the lcd, is one thing.
http://mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/HTC Herald Sevice Manual.pdf
download and read that ,it will show you how to disassemble the herald and take the screen out
Replacing digitiser on Herald as opposed to Hermes
Scuse me for butting in but I have both just bought a Herald with a broken screen AND have done a few screen replacements on Wizards, Blue Angels and Hermeses.
On this Herald I had just assumed that you could basically follow the video on YouTube which shows how to replace a screen on a Hermes? I see that the PDF file is quite complicated and is designed to show you how to take off every tiny part if it has failed. The screen replacement is far easier that this, right?
Secondly, I see that you can buy the screen separately from the 'protector' which is I assume the bit with the hole in on your unit? I have to say, I had never seen these replaced separately before: Is this something special to the Herald or can you replace this digitizer separately from the screen on other units as well? If so, how on earth do you get it off the screen please? And is there a reliable way of getting one back on? (There is no reference to this in the pdf manual but the digitizers are suddenly being sold on ebay for about five bucks)
So the question is whether this is still as difficult on the Herald as threads on the Hermes suggest?
I've opened my Herald, and to reach the screen you have to disassemble the whole thing.
It's not that difficult (albeit while following the service manual, since there are a lot of tricky areas like removing the Keyboard), you just need to have patience and not rush it.
Any way to set up device after flash with no touch screen.
The digitizer or screen is not functioning, before i take it all apart as shown anybody no of a way to bypass the touchscreen setup.
before trying to change the digitizer...
(and i know this is crazy but worked for me after replacing the cable going from the screen to the board)
install a screen protector and try again!
I had the same problem after opening my Herald, and right now the screen only works if i have a screen protector on. If not then nothing happens
digitizer replacement is actually very easy.

As I have now posted on a different thread, the digitizer replacement is actually very easy. You just slip a razor blade under the tabs and lever it off after removing that yellow tape on the back.

I agree. It was not difficult at all. I took apart and put together the phone a few times after just to develop a feel for it.
We have a tendency to get nervous about it but if you relax it becomes easier.
I have a a extra digitizer that I never used. If anyone wants it, pm me.

[Q] NEWBIE HERE! Really F'd my HD2 up!!! HELP!!!

So, about 2 weeks ago, I got my HD2 off of Craigslist with a cracked screen. It worked perfectly fine with the exception of the hardly noticeable cracks. I knew I could get the replacement digitizer/screen for $40-80. I got my screen in the mail yesterday and, following the "YouTube" video tutorial found on this site, I......ugh.... replaced the screen....................I SCREWED UP BIG TIME!
First, I broke the ribbon cable for the Side "Volume Up/Down" buttons. Then, I broke the ribbon cable for the "soft keys." Ah, crap, but oh well. I figured I could use the touch screen for pretty much everything i needed to do. Well, while prying the cracked digitizer screen from the LCD, I went a bit too deep & peeled the tinted film off of the LCD. I thought nothing of it at the time. I'd already done enough damage. So the display would be a bit brighter than normal oh well.......WRONG! I put the phone back together and once I get it to power up, all I get is a white screen. I thought I missed something. So I disassemble & check 3 more times. Still a white screen.
Well, after all of this, the new digitizer/screen doesn't want to stay in place very well. So, being pissed off and curious, I pull it out and away and notice in the backside reflection of the digitizer that I can slightly make out the phone display. So, apparently the "Tinted Film" that I accidentally peeled off of the LCD makes images visible on the phone screen. I kind of damaged this film when peeling it off. Therefore, I am unable to put it back on. Does anyone know of a simple fix without replacing the LCD?
SORRY FOR THE "SHORT STORY LONG."
I was brainstorming and thought that maybe the film was polarized. So, I grabbed my sunglasses, which are polarized, and wearing them, I can faintly see the display. Anyone think maybe polarized window tint might fix my problem?
Hey man I have some electronic devices that need repair, can I send them to you to fix them?
SURE!
You can pay me in HD2 parts.
Sir i can only say 1 thing. search ebay and replace everything you damaged. only that way you will get your hd2 in perfect state.

I'd go one step further and say bin it and get a new one!
You sound just like me. That is why I never try things like that anymore. Hope it gets sorted but might be better looking for a used one.
I've got it functioning...
I found the film that I ripped off, put it over the screen and........I CAN SEE! However, the top half has lines through it. So, I must've damaged the LCD. The good news is that my phone is useable again. I just have to do everything via the touch screen and can't let the screen hibernate unless I have my charger close by. I'm just gonna keep my eye out for a cheap busted phone and eventually have a 100% phone again...
I sympathize with you. I broke HD2 while I was trying to check for loose WiFi card cable(cuz i was getting weak WiFi signals). The cable turned out to be fine but the external speaker stopped working. I opened it up again and adjusted some parts and it just got worse. the HD2 didn't power on at all. I tried fixing it but to no avail. I ended up sending the HD2 to a repair shop and was charged $170 for the repair. the repair guy said i messed up the power IC and the connector for the external speaker and he had to replace the power IC and resolder the connector.
I think I'm gonna stop trying to open up expensive phones. i was stupid thinking that since I have successfully replaced digitizer for my previous Palm T3, E2 and T5, opening up HD2 wouldn't be a problem. Should have known HD2 components are really fragile...

Digitizer bjorked?

Second and/or third opinion. All areas of the screen do not respond to touch on a normal basis. Soft keys work fine. 3 different ROMS tried, froyo, gb, and eclair.
Informed opinion is saying digitizer is not working?

My money is on the informed opinion at 20:1
The digitizers can be replaced for about $30 if you are a little bit handy - this post over on AF contains a link to a useful video of the procedure on YouTube. I suppose it's feasible that the problem is as simple as a "loose connector", but that's still a hardware problem, not software.
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/371983-help-save-brick-5.html#post2941531
Search around (both here and on AF) in the Eris forums for "screen replacement" or "digitizer"; you might find some links to inexpensive sources for the digitizer and cover glass
cheers

Yeah, that's what I thought. Good to have a second opinion though. Haven't used this phone in about a year anyway, not sure if I have a plan for fixing it or not to be honest.
FYI, it occurred to me that many of the folks that have replaced their digitizer did so because of one or two different scenarios:
- they dropped their phone and cracked or smashed the cover glass
- portions of the touchscreen stopped working.
In your case, because you don't have partial functionality of the touchscreen, the possibility exists that the problem is elsewhere (for instance in the electronics or wiring which "talk" to the digitizer).
It would be disappointing to go through the trouble of replacing the digitizer only to find out that you had spent the money for no result; but cut-n-try is the name of the game in electronics repair.
I mentioned the other possibility of a simple case of a loose connector - before you spend the money, you might try popping the Eris open and then disconnecting and reconnecting the flex-cable connectors to see if its an easy fix like that.
bftb0
Since I don't use it and it has been in a drawer since September of 2010 I might get around to it but I really don't think so.
I am half tempted to just mail it off to the first person that wants it.
i just recently replaced my digitizer, but like the previous post said, the problem was that only certain parts had no touch. i actually started to have another problem where pushing the back soft key would then initiate a barrage of pushes from all over the screen. honestly, if the soft keys are working and the rest of the screen isnt, i doubt that its a loose connection.
i found my digitizer on ebay for around $30 give or take a dollar or two. and its honestly not too hard to replace if you watch youtube videos on it. the only hard part is taking off the original digitizer (seriously u feel like its going to snap from how much pressure you need to put on the adhesive they used before) and trying to clean all that adhesive they had on before. but i was very pleased after replacement to have my eris working wonderfully, lol mainly because my upgrade at the time wasnt for another month!! and just think, with the condemned soul wifi fix for non-serviced phones, you can have the almost equivalent of an ipod touch with $30 n a little bit of handywork )

Damaged LCD? Can be saved?

Hello, one of my Android phone (not present on xda) got its LCD damaged apparently. Strange cause i don't remember hearting it ever, and it's supposed to have last gorilla glass.. Anyways, there are like very tiny vertical invisible lines which makes text & everything looks pixelated.
This still let you use the phone, just can't read small text. But after ~20' with screen on (any use) one side + other parts of it while really get fuc*** up more & more. Turning screen off & then on just after will make issue go.. Until next ~20' use.
If i push a little hard on a specific place, then lines will comes and go, once again after on/off. Sometimes they'll stay for a while, listing "ghosting" (or maybe it's not that word?). Any ways to "repair" this without disassembly?

Not likely without dis-assembly.
Nothing to be done about that without replacing the LCD. Gorilla glass has nothing to do with the LCD, for future reference. The Gorilla glass is only for the top glass.
I know that of course.. What i meant is : how could the LCD be damaged this way if 1/ i'm cautious 2/ it has gorilla glass.
Could this be a bad LCD that started dying only after days of being ON? I'm planning on getting same phone but i'm worried..

Just depends on the phone. Nowadays many of the phones are so focused on being slim with tiny bezels that it doesn't take much to break the LCD. I've known people that broke their phone just from being in the front pocket. Never dropped or hit anything, etc. I own a little repair shop and have seen it more than once and have read about others online with similar issues. And sometimes parts just go bad. Just like any other tech based thing.
I see.. Ayways, as said i can still use it, things will just get bad after a moment, i'll just turn off/on and all's gone.
Will it goes on like this forever? I mean, unless accident happens, it won't get worse? Better either i guess..?
