Where are system app icons stored? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to take the icons from my Vibrant and use them on the LauncherPro Dock of my other phones.
Where can I find (for example) the Dialer icon... just the basic green dialer. My nexus has a clear/very little color icon, and I was not able to find our icon on some sites by googling...
Thanks.

bump, id like to hear the answer to this myself.

All of the system icons are located inside the .apk for the various system apps. For example, the Dialer is DialerTabActivity.apk in system/app/. If you open DialerTabActivity.apk in Root Explorer or WinRAR and look in /res/drawable-hdpi, you will find an image file named ic_launcher_phone.png. If I am understanding you correctly, that is the icon you are looking for.
Each icon would be located in a separate .apk for that particular application.

how to change launcher pro menu icons?

i've been trying to use themes, and noticing that with launcherpro, after you press menu on the home screen, some of the icons don't change along with the new theme. as such, the search, notifications, and preferences icons don't change. does anyone have a way to fix this?

You have to touch a blank spot on the screen. A menu will pop up, hit shortcut then applications. Pick your app then click on the icon and it well ask if you want the default icon or a custom one. You should be able to use any pictures you have in your gallery. You can also google png (fill in the blank) icon pictures and then download them to your sd card.
No he's talking about the icons for the menu options. When you press menu on the homescreen. I believe its because some of the icons call on the system default icons (the default in your case being whatever theme your using) and some come with the app. I think you would have to open the apk and swap out the .pngs with the icons you want to use.
I think...I've never done this, so hopefully someone will come in and fill in the holes that my ignorance couldn't.

yea thats what i meant. here's what it looks like currently. its a honeycomb theme with bionix 1.3.1 and using launcherpro. you can see that some of the icons are the new blue ones, but the rest didnt change.
i tried using ninjamorph to change the the icons, the blue ones are in system/framework, but i dont know where the notification, search, and preferences ones are located. anyone have any clue?
Those specific ones should be located with in the launcher pro apk, if im thinking about thi s correctly. you will need to resign the apk after making my modifications for it to work. Hope this helps

Changing/Moving the locked Phone/Contacts/Messages/Apps icons?

I was able to move these locked apps/icons which appear on all home screens on my SGS1, and now on the SGS2, when i try and edit the home screen(s), the phone wont let me change these.
Ive downloaded Handscent SMS which i want to use to completely replace the default messages app, so in a root explorer program just renamed the Mms.apk application to a ,bak, in doing that, it removed the messages icon from this locked menu so now i can only see PHONE/CONTACTS/APPLICATION icons and still cant add or edit anything...can someone help with this? Just wanna throw the HANDSCENT SMS icon in there...

If you're talking about the four bottom icons with the app drawer icon at the far right then you can change it quite easily. Just open the app drawer, hit menu then edit. You can drag and move whatever you'd like to the bottom area. Home/Applications must stay though.
Is there any way of changing the icons, renanming them or just pointing the existing icon to another application?
I am trying to keep the stock messaging icon but open Go SMS Pro with it instead?
TIA

App Drawer Icons and Their Related Processes

Hey everyone
i've been compiling my own .apk's for my own personal use with LauncherPro today, using icon packs i've found throughout the XDA Forums
I've had some issues trying to figure out what the correct way to go about naming the files for the Dialer and the Contacts icon
They both pretty much go to the same app, just a different tab within that app.
IF someone could provide me with the proper filename or even just the activity name, or a method of finding out which process / activity it is that i need for the different icons, especially for the Dialer icon and the Contacts icon, that would be great!

[Q] Miui icons

hey everyone got a quick question.
so ive searched and searched multiple forums and threads and i just can't find away to do this. what i would like to do is change some miui system icons with out applying a whole theme. like going into the icons of the theme and just changing the ones on my homescreen. i know that if you use a different launcher you can change them but i do not want to use an alternate launcher i would like to use the stock launcher. if anyone can't point me in the right direction on changing them feel free to post in here or message me.
thanks in advance
You can either open the theme you're using and modify or add the icons, or you can use Desktop Visualizer. You'll still have the app icons on your screen, you can just put them in a folder if you want. Use a Desktop Visualizer widget, don't use the shortcut.
If you need help changing your theme (or making an icon theme if you're not using a theme) you can pm me & I'll do it for you. Just send me the icons and name them what you want them to be. If you don't know how to name them properly, I can do it. I just need to know what you want the icon to represent.

7zip should work. Unzip the theme, and inside you'll see an "icons" file. Add a zip extension and extract. Add/replace the icons that you want - they have to be named the process name. For example, if you want to add an icon for the Market, you'd name it "com.android.vending.png". You wouldn't add the png extension since it's already there. The MIUI Music app would be com.miui.player.png, and so on. Once you've finished, rezip the icons and remove the zip extension. Then zip up the whole theme and change zip to mtz.
I know a lot of the popular process names off the top of my head because I do this a lot. It's actually faster for me to do it for you than to try to give a step by step guide, so if you run into issues send me a pm.

Can we change the folder shape?

I, personally, don't like the rounded folder shape even we are able to change the shape for the app icons. Do we have magisk module or icon pack where we can change the folder shape?
Thanks in advance!
press and hold on the homescreen. go into settings and change folderstyle to your likings.
Reeppeep,
I only have "Change icon shape" after I press and hold on the home screen and select "Home Settings". I don't have the folder style option. Is there a new pixel launcher apk somewhere? The version I have is 9-4928604.
hey, i'm sorry i thought app-icon style is what you were after. kinda misread your question a bit. can't help you with folder style, i'm sorry.
I know it is an old thread, but this question is still relevant. I got a new phone and I hate the dumb round shaped folder icons in Android 8 and 9, with no way to change it. It's crazy, isn't it? Taken from the real world, folders are always square, after all. Yet, we can't have square folder shape in google's skewed digital world, only round ones. App icons can be customized in many, some useless, way. We can have round app icons, square app icons, squarish app icons, teardrop app icons .... but only round folder icons. No customizable folder icons for us, oh no. Doesn't matter that in previous Android versions, at least up to 6, folders were square. Take your round folder icons now and like them. Yep, that makes sense . Screw you , google, that's the kind of stupid stuff that drives people to Apple and iphone.

Go to settings> enable developer option > in developer option > themes application: highlight color, title source and icon shape.
that is about folder, not icon, icon we already know how to change shape as the last post above us told
Hi, I didn't find a Solution, but I think this should be better then installing a Launcher (something I don't want to do).
The onle thing it should do the job is removing completely the background color of the folder, see the screenshot.
