Since PS3 controllers use bluetooth to connect, can we find a way to turn the phone into a fancy touch screen remote for the ps3?

Pretty sure the phone would need better HID support before this would work wouldn't it? It would be pretty handy though. My old Sony Ericsson W900 had some quite good custom Bluetooth HID profiles in it which I used to control various devices which was pretty handy, the equivalents for Android all seem to be server/client WiFi based things.
I suspect there may be improved HID support in Gingerbread, so we might be lucky and it becomes relatively straightforward to implement then.

Nope, PS3's bluetooth is pretty standard. You can sync a regular Bluetooth keyboard or mouse with it and they work fine. Their media remote might use some odd signals, but you can duplicate what you need with the right keys on a keyboard profile.

How about taking it one step further and allowing remote desktop like you can with the PSP?
I believe that's what is being done with open remote play now. I have that running on my laptop instead of my cfw'ed PSP.
I'm pretty sure this has been done with the Nokia N900/Maemo. So wouldn't a port be feasible? Like with psfreedom?
Adding in my support for any dev who jumps on this. I've been wanting this ever since I got a PS3 but nobody seems to want to make it work.
Since the PS3 will work with a regular keyboard and mouse, all that should be required (theoretically) is to set your phone to think it's a BT keyboard with a trackpad built in. I would love to be able to tie my phone's BT to my PS3 and use it as a trackpad to navigate the browser or use the android keyboard to be able to type quick messages to friends. The onscreen PS3 keyboard is a joke.
I can see a lot of PS3 owners spending at least $5.00 for something like this. Hell, throw it in the market and watch the money roll in. I just wish somebody would create the app...
i'd pay for an app like this too.... just putting that out there

Due to an astounding lack of information on the subject I decided to open a thread dedicated to listing off bluetooth controllers for android devices. This way we can play anything from dos games to ps1 games.
There is a PS1 style controller out currently from Phonejoy. They have a dual analog controller in the works.

My question is, how many of those are sense friendly? I know from the thunderbolt forums that sense roms won't work with bt controllers. I see that the AOSP tons do, apparently from a different Bluetooth stack. Thanks for the links!
It's because of Bluetooth 3.0. Once more of those accessories start coming out, we'll see working gamepads that will work for Sense devices.
I use my zeemote (that I picked up for $20 shipped on the bay) with my epic4g and its fantastic. It doesn't want to pair with the view because the view wants to autoassign a pin instead of using the default lol

Hello, been lurking around here for a while, thought I would finally make my first post. I was wondering if there had been any more discoveries on sense-friendly bt controllers, or any (preferably HC) flyer roms with a full bluetooth stack. I have globatrons hc installed at the moment, and I would absolutely love to be able to play with my wiimote (like I am able to on my Inspire via CM7).
So, in summation, are there any sense compatible bt controllers out there?

There are no vanilla ROMs. Most people do not want one since it kind of deprciates the uniique qualities of the Flyer. for WI, I don't know. Most apps that do that don't like to work with HTC.
I recently read a thread about a guy who wrote CobaltController for windows phones. Some windows phones do not have full BT support either, it seems, and suffer a similar inability to pair with controllers such as the wiimote. He wrote a program that acts as a second BT stack that can be ran while your phones default BT is off.
Would it be possible to create a similar apps for sense phones? I would gladly contribute $50 towards developement of such a program for sense devices that allows pairing with the wiimote in particular.
Has anyone tried the iControlPad from ThinkGeek.com? If not I will give it a try after the holidays, and post the results... They did list a couple HTC phones, so I am hopeful.

Obviously there is not a astounding amount of demand for such apps or one of the current WI controller apps on the market would have been fixed to work with the Flyer, but that being said, I would recommend you contact some of those developers on the market and ask if that can fix the issues or have an alternative.
I would have to disagree with you. Perhaps that argument could be made specifically for Wiimote support on the flyer, but more broadly the problem experienced via sense UI for many BT devices that have similar pairing issues is something I believe there is a demand for a solution.
I have used the search function on this issue extensively, and there was a lot more interest it seems before it was certain that honeycomb would be coming to flyer. I believe many thought HC would clear up all the BT issues with sense, which was not the case.
In any case after searching through LeeDroid's rom thread I have read he would be dealing with BT issues for his rom (though not specifically for my device) so that may be the end solution I have to go with, if he gets a working fix and it is compatable with my device. It is a shame though because I do really enjoy honeycomb.
HTC does not write the bluetooth stack , its part of Android. Android only includes basic device support. Each HW vendor includes settings in configuration files that tell Android which services to allow, HTC may need to tweak the settings or a clever developer can do it. Audio issues are a different matter due to the Linux mess that is audio libraries and routing.
Special devices, even if they pair will not work without a special key-mapping and its impossible to include every device in the OS, so your premise that a new version of Android will solve all issues is simply wrong. That's why there are third party apps to handle special cases like a WI controller or a bluetooth GPS. SO while Android may pair and recognize that a game controller is a HID device on bluetooth , unless there is a matching key map or driver, your results will not be happy.
I am aware HTC does not write the BT stack... but they do use an older, less functional, blue tooth stack to work with their sense UI.

I never said that. If you take a look at what I said; I stated that there was interest in some sort of blue tooth fix prior to honeycomb coming out, and people INCORRECTLY assumed that it would clear up any bt problems.
Any of the emulation progams I run support keymapping to the remote. And the devices can be seen by the device, but pairing is impossible. So the bt stack on these devices is the issue, though you seemed mighty determined to insist otherwise.
Well whatever, you seem to know more than anyone else about it so fix it.
The Bluetooth stack used by HTC is written by Broadcomm and used by Samsung, LG, HTC and others. As you can see by studying the Android Market, all those devices you listed are special cases and require a special application to make them work . For example Bluez IME which has been reported to work on the Flyer. Good luck.
I have downloaded the newest version of bluez ime and it would not successfully pair with my Flyer running Globatron's HC rom.
Bluez IME will not work on the flyer, if it running any version of HTC sense. or so the program developer says:

I have also read on a market review someone claiming it worked with the flyer. However they did not mention which devices, drivers, or firmware they were using.
I could not find a suitable Bluetooth controller in bestbuy the other day. I've heard of such things as the Wii remote working for android, but I read further and found it did not work with Sense UI. So I decided to go and buy a Bluetooth keyboard because I was used to the PC gaming style anyways. It works fine for the n64 emulator, but I wish more keys were mapped on mine, and I am trying to get it to work.

Keys are mapped in files in /system/usr/keylayout
it's not so straightforward and depends on what vendor ID the device presents. If it matches an installed key map, ok, but if not then it may get either the generic map or the qwerty map. The Flyer already has maps for logitech , Sony, Apple and Motorola bluetooth keyboards, but not MS. you might start by searching for a MS keymap file.
WARNING< backup your files / ROM before you modify any key map files in your system.

This is confirmed working on the Flyer/View? I thought that they didn't provide any power to USB devices, which would inhibit the receiver from working properly. Am I missing something?
I am trying to get my xbox 360 wired controller to work with gta3 and its somewhat working. Im using Xpadder, a gamepad profiler that can make the controller emulate and mouse/keyboard movement and then using "wifi keyboard" app to get it to move across to my phone. However i cant get mouse movements to register and can only really get basic walking and driving controls working, such as steering and walking. I cant figure out how to make the controller use any weapons, sprint, but entering and exciting vehicles works fine. Is there a better app to do what im trying to do? I searched and couldn't find any and am curious if anyone else has tried to do the same thing i am. I really need like a list of what the translation for the pc version would be, like what keyboard button was used for the ebrake, drivebys, etc because thats the only way i am able to get this controller to work. I have been working off of a list of pc controls but am still unable to figure out how to make the controller fire or use weapon or switch between weapons, i know it was default to mouse left click or left control but neither work for me. And ive literally gone over my entire keyboard pressing random buttons to see if i can make it fire or switch weapons.
I know there are apps to you can download to turn your cell phone into a wireless mouse for your PC, in fact I have one and it works great.
Does anyone know of an app that will do the same thing but be able have a mouse pointer on your Prime using your cell phone as the mouse. I've searched the marked and googled it and get nothing.
If there is not an app like this maybe one of you guru developers here can make one. That would be awesome.

Mobile mouse works great, if you're just looking to control the mouse functions. There's also LogMeIn, if you're looking for more functionality (remote desktop type stuff).
These work on a PC, but I'm not sure how well, or if these would work on the TFP.
I have a app that controls my computers mouse pointer from my phone. What I'm looking for is an app like that but to put a mouse pointer on my Prime and be able to control the pointer from my phone. So it would really be an app that creates a mouse pointer on the Prime and is controlled by the phone. This way I could sit back and control my Prime while connected via HDMI on my bigscreen and not have a long HDMI cable or have to get up to mess with the tablet.

That works just fine. I found it while looking to use my phone as a BT keyboard to use cheats in GTA III. Mouse also works.

So will this app put a mouse pointer on the Prime and control said cursor from the phone? I'm not really going to use my phone as a game controller what I really want is a cursor on my Prime to control it like it was in the dock (I don't have a dock) remotely.
That's two apps that need root to work so I may be closer to rooting if one of these will do what I want.

I have an LG Ally which is running Android 2.22 if I recall correctly. I currently have a setup so that I plug my phone into my stereo through AUX so I can use my phone to play music, and as a GPS when needed. I use the Music system that's built into android phone, but when i'm driving it's very hard to change the songs and still drive. I know they make bluetooth headphone that allow you to pause, skip, etc so there must be a bluetooth remote control that I can pair to my phone so I don't have to take my eyes off the road in order to change a song.
To make this clear, I am NOT looking for an app, nor am I trying to turn my phone into a remote control. I can't stress this enough, because a lot of posts I read while looking into this a lot of people where getting confused and thinking the person wanted to use their phone as a remote and this is not the case.

There is a remote called Satechi BT Media remote that is compatible with iPhones.
If it works like like a Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, media functions should work with Galaxy Note, but I don't know about LG. Every company use different Bluetooth stack.

So i know this thread is a little old and i realize this doesnt directly help the OP, but could an IR remote, plugged into a USB host like a moto dock or one of those cables that enables the host command through the mini usb port possibly work? I suppose youd still need some sort of software to control the function...
I was thinking about this the other day when i had my phone attached hdmi to the tv, watching netflix. Once the episode was over, id have to get up and pick something else. A remote or a bt mouse might be a decent solution, but a mouse isnt very sexy as youd have to move around and click, as opposed to just using a directional pad or an arrow key.

I was looking for exactly the same thing, for the same purpose.
I wasn't aware of the bluetooth HID protocol until now and hence I was thinking about a different solution:
I thought about using a bluetooth headset for media control as these often include all the media control buttons.
However I only wanted to use the media buttons of the bluetooth headset while I was playing music through the headphone jack in my car.
Therefore I was seeking for a solution to connect the bluetooth headset in a way that its buttons can be used for media control but no music would be streamed to the headset or could be muted.
I think it's possible but some android hacking might be involved.
But that's a thing of the past with this new Satechi Bluetooth Remote, the amazon sales description states that Android devices are supported as long as they support Bluetooth HID. The customer review section also includes a guy who succesfully paired the Satechi with his Galaxy III.
The Satechi was introduced a couple of months ago so maybe other manufacturers will introduce similar and cheaper devices.
If your Android OS supports Bluetooth HID you can also use some Bluetooth HID devices which are advertised to work with iOS only (ie Apple Bluetooth Keyboard).

So this is a pretty old thread but Motorola has a product called the RZ100 which should fit the bill nicely. I use it for my GS3 (I travel quite a bit, so gs3 + HDMI out adapter + this remote = bliss) and it works without issues. The only thing I would like is an app that allows remapping the buttons on it (Ahem Android developpers...)

i want the EXACTLY function as u said, just plain media control to pair with my buttonless in ear earphone, only Satechi available now? kinda bulky consider i just need the media control alone.. haiz..

I'm using my Sensation with a Harman Kardon Go+Play and therefore had the same problem as OP.
I read your post and realized that I already own a Logilink BT0019 for other purposes.
I paired it and voilá, the music plays via the Harman Kardon, but the BT0019 media buttons still work.
Only Play/Pause and Next/Previous Song though because the sound level Buttons only change the Headsets volume which means that I do now need two remotes (the BT0019 +the provided Harman Kardon Remote for volume control.) but okay, cool.
I got the BT0019 for 22€, so it's a decently low priced solution too, even if I would not need the Headset for other purposes.
I know it's not bluetooth but the Mele F10 air mouse can do the trick via USB OTG.
I'm looking for a similar solution to control the media playing on an Android tablet for my daughter while on road trips. We have a Nexus 10 currently and will probably be getting a Nexus 7/Kindle Fire HD/Nook HD+ soley for her uses. Are there any android apps that might also achieve this using bluetooth? If I could control the media on the tablet using my Galaxy Nexus phone, that would be even better.
I succesfully managed to get what the OP asked for with an old TomTom bluetooth remote like this one (www ebay com/itm/331084156246) thanks to the informations provided by Norvan Gorgi at norvangorgi blogspot it/2011/10/using-tomtom-bluetooth-remote-with.html (insert dots as required ), and it worked brilliantly with both my SGS3 and my first gen Galaxy Note.
Basically, the remote is recognized as an external keyboard, so all you need is to remap its keys (the tomtom remote has 10 buttons) according to your needs, as per the instruction provided by Norvan in his blog.
Thing is, this stopped working when I installed CyanogenMod 10.2 on both my mobiles, appearently because android 4.3 now does not recognizes the remote as a keyboard anymore, but rather as an 'input device', ie with a nice 'joystick' icon next to it (and my own keyboard definition files won't work anymore).
Anyway, once paired with a 4.3 device the four directional keys and the central 'ok' one will sitll work, so it might still prove useful for someone, even if it does not have proper 'direct' media functions as it would have when set up as a keyboard.
Satechi Remote Control
I recently purchased the Satechi remote control because even though it says its specifically made for iOS, people in the reviews said it works on android and also because it works on 3rd party applications like spotify.
I have two Samsung devices, my phone which is Samsung Galaxy Note II and a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 which is just used to download my spotify playlist for the car. since the Galaxy Player 4.2 only has 512mb of ram its really annoying when i want to change song, very slow and I realised I pay a lot of attention to the device while driving and that isnt good!
so I bought the remote thinking it would help. now the problem is it doesnt connect to android devices because it requires bluetooth HID, according to a few posts found on this website and a few others, I downloaded bluetooth keyboard easy connect and on my phone it worked fine. however on my galaxy player it didnt work. it just keeps TRYING to connect, the device is running 2.3.6.
my question is, is there any other application i can use or anything I can do to use this remote on my mp3 player?

Basically the title. I'm wondering what wireless controller you've guys gotten to work with the Pixel. I don't really won't to get anything expensive because I'm probably won't end up using it much. I wouldn't mind getting one that holds the phone though. I'll mainly be using it for emulators and such.
Also, has anyone successfully gotten the Sony Dualshock 4 controller to work with it? It seems to pair just fine but I can't get any buttons to work with it. It'd be awesome if I could get it work because I already own one.

I believe with a PlayStation controller you need a way to map the buttons like Sixaxis Controller (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller).

I believe with a PlayStation controller you need a way to map the buttons like Sixaxis Controller (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller).

I haven't tried Sixaxis yet with my Pixel, but it worked pretty well for my previous phone. It does require root.
Good news, I got Sony Playstation DualShock DS3/DS4 controllers to work on Google Pixel.
I have a pixel, rooted, with SixAxis Controller app installed.
Wired USB:
dmesg for ds3/4 show the devices connecting via USB, but does not create a hid/dev input device. sad, this worked perfectly on Galaxy S3 on Cyanogenmod
Wireless (Bluetooth):
- Program the master address using SixPairTool on Windows (use phone's Bluetooth MAC address)
- DS4: pair natively as "Wireless Controller" in Android, holding PS+Share. Buttons will not work at this point.
- DS4: Start SixAxis app, and touch start. it 'just works' now, tested in JohnSNES and DosBox, NO LATENCY! Zelda / CommanderKeen
- DS4: Touchpad/Sticks/Buttons works natively in android, sweet. No need to switch to SixAxis IME
- DS3: No native bluetooth pairing. Start SixAxis app, touch start.
- DS3: Hold PS button to start pairing mode, phone will popup with request (0000/1234)
- DS3: Latency seems good, but didn't play that long (JohnSNES).
- DS3+4: XY/AB buttons seem to be swapped, but easy fix in SixAxis settings.
So ROOT is needed for both controllers and wired support is broken.
I got an ouya controller to work. For what it's worth. Of course I wouldn't recommend spending $50 to get one if you do that have it already
I prefer to use the USB a to c doohickey and plug an Xbox controller right in. Works perfectly. Noted for future research though, thanks.
My SteelSeries XL works very well with my Pixel. It's easily the nicest looking controller I've seen that is meant for use with a phone.
At the moment I am using it with DraStic NDS emulator but it likely to work with any game that supports external controllers.
