[q] help needed asap! - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok first off thanx for all the help that you all have took time out for while i was trying to root my aria, but now my friend wants me to root his, and he's on his way to the apartment now, so i need to kno do i need to do the driver steps again or can i just connect his phone to my comp and run unrEVOked? PLEASE HELP ASAP!

the drivers are just for your computer so it can talk to your phone. As long as you didnt uninstall them from the computer you should be fine with just connecting the phone and running unrevoked.
EDIT: Remember to make sure his phone has USB Debugging enabled too.

I'm having the same problem. I got it to work about a week ago by uninstalling easytether lite, and just a couple days ago adb was working one time (completely randomly), but now it doesn't work again
I rooted with ADB and then didnt use it for awhile. When I went back to it, after a new ROM I noticed it wouldn't connect. Not sure why. USB Mass Storage also is a little funny.
Try this:
Plug phone into computer and choose Internet pass through mode,
Wait 10 seconds
Then change to Charge only for ADB, or Disk Drive to Mount, Then it should work.

[Q] Rooting Aria with 2.2.2

there are many topics out there right now guiding people through this but I'm a bit confused with what actually needs to be done to root the aria currently.
I would like to root and run CM7 on my Aria which is currently running stock FroYo 2.2.2. Do I need to s-off first, then use unrevoked or am I able to follow a video guide such as this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwDNRQelpr4 and be done? Then how would I go about getting CM7 on the phone...?
First time rooting.
Sorry I'm just confused and want to make sure I have a current answer for this before starting.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159237&highlight=root.
ah figured it out. had to turn off debugging mode when trying to recover with android flasher. that was a lot easier than I thought. Thanks!

Glad you were successful, but actually you don't have to turn off USB debugging when using Android Flasher.
it wouldnt read it for me if the debugging was on. as soon as I turn off usb debugging my laptop says there is a usb mass storage device connected but when usb debugging is on, there is nothing visible. oh well, it ended up working fine.
I actually ran into the same problem yesterday. Even tried two separate machines before trying to turn off usb debugging. It's weird because I've never had a problem before.

You cannot root without a computer.
Your problem is probably a driver issue. Please read the quides carefully as they contain everthing you need to do it.

The USB cable is known to be good? Also, remove HTC sync but leave the drivers.

So you can't get anything to work from your computer including USB storage and fastboot commands? Sounds like a hardware problem with the USB port on the phone or the cable to me.
Does it charge properly? You could still have data issues even if it charges. Some cables only support charging and are not wired for data.

Did you try going to device manager and completely uninstalling the drivers, then reinstall them?

Hahaa, no, they will not help you root your phone and void the warranty.

PC isn't detecting my device.

Hello
So this is it. i've tried searching in this forum and google for any possible solution to this issue that is kind of driving me crazy, but i haven't been able to make it work. None of my PC's can detect my device through USB Connection, i have:
1- i have installed all the drivers and Samsung Kies updated to the last version
2- i have enabled usb debugging mode connection and still nothing
3- i have the stock gingerbread 2.3.6
If someone can help me... please i'd really appreciate it :S

Even if you have the correct drivers installed, some bad drivers might be picking the device up, overriding the good drivers. If you open up device manager, what shows up when you plug in the phone?

Nothing shows up!, that's the thing, the device seems to be recognizing the PC. it makes a sound when i connect it to the pc and the icon of usb connection shows up right on the notificacion bar, but on the pc doesn't make anything.
I installed the official drivers from samsung and Kies Too.
Have you try changing USB port?

Snappea is an app for both windows and your android via which you can connect to your pc
1. First download and install Snappea (Google it "SnapPea" since i cannot post outside links)
2. When installed, it will ask some basic info and after connecting your phone, it will automatically download its android version
3. I guess thats all.... Youll understand its use via the tutorial (pretty much easy)
4. ENJOY!....enjoy transferring your files via pc and android........

What makes a sound when you connect it to the PC? Does the PC itself make a sound? And you did as I suggested and had Device Manager open when you plugged it in - did it refresh at all?

Strange! Do other devices work when plugged in?
the device makes a sound means it connected to USB only. it can be computer or charger.
did you try uninstalling usb drivers in device manager.
right click and update driver
then select have a disk..
show path ..Program Files\SAMSUNG\USB Drivers..
i can't remember the rest of the part.
then it will recognize
hope this help..

Oh then Idk i've never looked into it.
I'm having the same problem with my i777 model.
I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers, I updated the drivers, I tried debugging mode and I've tried "Mass Storage" mode.
Mass Storage mode was the only one that seemed to work for me, when I tried debug mode it would constantly connect and disconnect.
When I try without being in any of those modes, my phone will connect. My computer will recognize and then randomly my phone or computer wont be able to see each other anymore. Like my phone will disconnect from MTP-initialization (but still charge like it's plugged in)...I'm really interested in rooting my phone, but I don't want to since I can't connect my phone correctly. I don't want a $200+ phone becoming a brick and I can't replace it very cheap (anytime soon at least).
Here's phone info if it helps any..?
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-i777
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCKK6

Hmmm...I just tried something. My phone says it's not in MTP, but my PC can read it and open it up.
All I did was turn off my phone, then I plugged it in, then turned it back on and it's doing good so far...might give it a shot, I dunno how well it's really working or nothing though.
|-----EDIT------|
Now it's in MTP Application and synchronizing, I'm just trying to back up my phone with Keis so if I do decide to Root, I can back everything back up.

USB debugging mode.......

Is anybody else having problems with usb debugging mode not working? I have been trying to root with CASUAL all afternoon and I can NOT get usb debugging mode / adb mode to work. Any suggestions on what I could do to make it work?
Thanks guys/girls.

I'm having the same issue.. just bought it and this is driving me crazy! I'm i the process of removing drivers and crapware from verizon, and then figured I would try drivers direct from samsung.. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

It's absolutely crazy isn't it? Please let me know if you figure out the problem. I don't consider myself a noob about rooting/romming/etc but this is making me feel like i just started today!
EDIT:::: I finnally got my phone to connect to my moms laptop but it still wont connect to mine. I got CASUAL to recognize the phone but I'm kind of scared to do it now since my first phone connected perfect the first time and when I started having other problems and needed to send it back and usb debugging WOULD NOT work. I don't want to leave it stock but I don't want to go through what I went through with the first phone again
Ok, I finally got my phone rooted, unlocked using casual. I had to use my moms laptop ( hp, windows 7, 32 bit ) to unlock it, our desktop ( windows xp 32 bit ) to use odin and my laptop to transfer music, vidoes, etc..... Now i absolutely hate installing drivers and windows in general. You would think being 1 of the top-of-line smartphones, **** like this wouldn't be so difficult.
It seems this is a driver issue.. I still couldn't get it to work. I'm guessing that either the old GNex drivers or maybe a windows driver. I recall having a similar issue with another device and I had to go through device manager and remove certain drivers and install others.. That doesn't explain the failure I had with linux thought.. perhaps my adb is out of date??
After updating adb removing/installing various drivers in an old XP install was able to get the phone to be recognized by CASUAL, but casual would would reboot the phone to a "Downloading" recovery screen, and just hang.. CASUAL seemed to be waiting for this screen, but could'nt tell that it had it ???

Yep that's the same thing that happened on my windows xp based desktop, it would boot into download mode but it wouldn't recognize the phone. It's got to be a driver related issue though. I had similar issues with my gnex but that was nothing compared to this catastrophe.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I finally got mine done.. gave up on windows drivers and went back to linux.
I had to switch to a disto that used gksudo & dpkg in order for the CASUAL app to work properly (..my distro of choice is PCLinuxOS, but it doesn't use gksudo or dpkg).
