best way to root?? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ive been searching around gone through these threads.. and i cant figure it out
i used the vibrant one click root and every time i try it gets rooted but shortly after the phone freezes up when the screen times out and the only way to turn it back is to remove the battery and try it again
any tips or help would be awesome thanks

I just used the no computer needed one. Put the app file in my phone's internal storage, installed, ran app, rebooted into recovery, reinstalled packages and bam. Was root.

can i get a link to that please?

if its OCLF i got it but still phone freezes on screen time out

Just grab the file and flash. General sticky.

imo its best to wipe your phone to factory stock, boot it up, download OCLF from the market and root thru that app. its probably the easiest way to root.then reinstall your apps and install the lagfix if you wish

[Q] How to install [ROM]KaosFroyo V30 on droid eris?

Hi Guys am quite new at this however i've been doing some research on how to install [ROM]KaosFroyo V30 on my Eris but i have not found any instructions or guide and so i was wondering if anyone here could help? by the way i am running the android 2.1 version released by Verizon an HTC and hopefully this won't be a problem.
Google is your friend, also the Eris root app might make things easier.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
first question is are you rooted?
i think the phone's rooted now!
well i used the eris root app and when it asked me to i used the KaosFroyo V30 zip and it seemed to install ok, then i boot up the device and after an initial boot screen i get a screen saying android in blue and like a white light inside i don't know if that makes any sense but that's where the phone stays. i guess i am rooted now but then phone won't fully boot up

good luck and remember to always do a nand backup before flashing anything...saves more lives than seatbelts
The thing that you did different was wiping caches before flashing. That's why it works now.
BTW, NAND backups are important, but the one you made this time was worthless.
A NAND backup makes a copy of your system. Unfortunately your system wasn't functional when you created it.
Use this as a lesson. Always do a NAND before you change anything. That way you can restore to a working system.

Hi guys I was messing around on the HTC DROID ERIS and I may have damage my phone. I change the wrong NV items. 435,436,1192,1194 and now phone keeps turning on and off. it only gets to the skate boarding green dudes. I try adding a custom rom but i dont think i am rooted. I try doing the system wipe but as soon as it reboots to enter that mode it reboots and reboots again same system. I can only update with the PB00IMG.zip but does not changes anything. I can only keep it stable on the hboot usb which I dont know what else to do with that. anyone has any idea on how to correct this issue...

[q] black boot screen after i did verizon update unlagfix and crap

Well I was rooted and and had lagfix on my fascinate. Then I decided to download the new update from verizon today. After the update the update screen kept on popping up even after I already installed it. Then I found out that my apps that require root like autokiller and setcpu did not work anymore even though I still hade the superuser app. So I rooted my phone again restarted it and the apps worked again then I decided I wanted to do the clockworkmod installation thing so I could make my phone flashable, the instructions recommended that i remove lag fix so I took my phone plugged it into the pc and went to my ryan lagfix folder whatever on my desktop and clicked on the unlagfixme.bat thing and at the end it had some errors or something even mentioning the Innopath Activecare in it which was for some reason probably why it didnt work. So I decided to try it again and it didnt work. Then I rebooted the phone and I saw the samsung logo and then black screen! I CANT BOOT UP!!! WHAT DO I DO!!!!!
follow this your going to have to go back to stock, then redo everything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
Also, Do not install the Verizon update, it is not made for rooted phones. Wait for one of the devs to post a root friendly verizon update.
if that doesnt work, take it where u got it and tell them u did the update and that s what it does after the update.

No i did not I was going to but then it said lag fix is not recommended so I went to the folder with the lagfix stuff from Ryan and clicked on the unlagfixme.bat and there were issues. I saw innopath activecare some where in the error part or whatever, so something with the update from today or some thing. Dont know what to do now! Stuck on that stupid black screen ANYONE HELPPP!!!!
Had the same error, hold the power button and the volume keys till you can boot recovery. Then do a factory wipe and then after you get back into the phone, do a factory data reset.
It's the only way I got my phone back. Now time to figure out how I can remove the root and re-root .

Screen goes black

My vibrant running a rooted froyo started to act up today after it wouldnt play my mp3 files, saying how its the incorrect format or something. So after it said that for every song i restarted the phone. I get past the phone boot screen and i even get to see the bar up top that i could usually slide down but the rest is black, i hold the power button as if im going to shut it off and the power menu comes up and anything i do freezes the device. The bottom soft touch keys are turning on but seem to have no effect on anything the phone does. Im also getting these weird vibrations out of it every so often.
I got into recovery, tried deleting the caches, still nothing so i formatted the system partition since it gave me an error every time i tried to restore it. now its stuck at the vibrant screen.
Help please

well if you restored the rom and it dont pass the first screen you should install a kernel such as dead horse, dragon, overstock...and it should work because ive had that before
Easiest way is to Odin to stock...you are trying to run the wrong kernal on whatever rom you are using...they are incompatible

now i lost my clockwork recovery screen, when i press install update.zip it says that there is no such file. Il try stock now.
Back to stock now, working fine. I think i lost all my data though, i cant seem to find clockwork on the internal SD. Any way its still there?

ok brother so now reroot the phone and flash anything again... just read instructions and make sure its for vibrants
If bet you installed a non voodoo kernel over a voodoo one and it wiped your internal SD card....you news to toto the vibrant Bible and get the update.zip, move it to your internal SD...then reboot into recovery, then reinstall packages might have to hit reinstall packages twice...then you can flash whatever rom u want

Its working now, just need to update to froyo now. I guess next time i should get titanium back up as well as clockwork recovery. Off to start over again.
Thanks guys
If You Want To Flash A Different Rom There Is No Need To UpGrade To 2.2... But You Can Do It Anywas...
would i just put the rom into internal sd and hit install update?

Remove root. Help need please

Hi,
I am rooted on my S3 and all is good. However, my Father also has an S3 and last week he was talked into rooting it by his Grandson. All went well but long story short he was not happy with having a rooted phone so has decided to remove root. He has now done so by following various guides. He used Triangle away which he says went successfully and has used Odin to put the latest stock firmware on the phone which again he says went successfully. I was not there when he did all this but phone seems all good.
Except one thing. He has tried to install a couple of apps he had before rooting. Barclays bank app and Sky Go app. After installation these apps are saying they will not work on a rooted phone, but it's not rooted any more. I have booted into recovery using Volume down, power and home buttons and it says custom firmware / rom, I can't remember exact wording, but it says no. Also in the phone menu where a rooted phone says modified in device status it says normal or whatever it should say. Again can't remember exactly but all looks like no root present.
Anyone got any ideas on this? As I am rooted on my S3 and never un-rooted it yet, I do not know if he should have done something else. Will he have to root again to run triangle away or anything else. Or can this be fixed as the phone is at present?
Thanks for any help guys.
Cheers, Rich

One basic question..are you still able to go into recovery..vol up+power+home..if yes you are still rooted...you need to find your stock firmware and flash it via odin
check if it was a stock firmware your father flashed orcustom ROM o.follow this guide to do it again

Sounds like maybe triangle away didnt properly remove the count, was the firmware he downloaded the official one for his phone? Was it previously branded or anything like that?

Hi,
He has superSu on the phone. Presumably it has downloaded from the play store when restoring the phone. However, he tried to uninstall it which just removed the updates. Couldn't go any further. It is now asking for updates which he has done. But when he tries to launch Super SU it says no apps configured and won't go any further. I think the fact that super su is on the phone, the apps are thinking it is rooted. I am doing this all over the phone so can't see what's happening.
I'm wondering if the way to go now would be another factory reset and when restoring everything, try not to let play store instal super su. Would this be the way to go, or can we get super su off the phone without a reset?
Cheers, Rich
Try uninstalling super su with titanium backup. Then factory reset. Are you sure you have flashed a stock ROM and not a rooted one. This doesnt sound right.

Hi,
Trying to do these things with him over the phone ain't easy. I may just go and get the phone and do it myself.
He does have supersu on the phone and it is working, well it's installed anyway but obviously does not do the root things as the phone is un-rooted. There is an option in supersu settings to remove root but will this work as the phone is not rooted? Question is how on earth do I remove supersu. Do i need to re-root and remove it that way?

Can't uninstall via Titanium backup as he is no longer rooted unless he roots the phone again. It is a stock rom. It was downloaded via the official rom thread on here.
