Mounting a New SD Card Noobie Question - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently running Liberated 2.2 on HTC Aria. I am using the 2 gig SD card that came with the phone.
I read that this ROM automatically installs many of the default and downloaded apps to the SD card which is why the option to move to SD card is grayed out in the Applications menu. Several of the google apps downloaded directly to the SD card, and several of the other apps I downloaded gave me an option to move them to the SD card (after installing them), in the applications menu.
So then, is it as easy as backing up my data in Nandroid, copying the files to a PC folder via USB, ejecting the old card, installing the new card, copying the files back from the PC folder and doing a Nandroid restore?
The old card has a 512 meg ext2 partition on it that I think was created automatically by Liberated FR006 when I first flashed it. Will Liberated automatically create an ext2 on this card when I mount it?
Do I need to perform a format card function in Clockwork Mod first?
Please advise! And as always, thanks in advance for your help!

Well since I didn't get any answers, I just jumped in and did it! Here's how:
1. Move all apps to the phone reboot into recovery.
2. Run a Nandroid backup
3. Restart the phone, USB connect to PC and copy SD card contents to PC folder
Disconnect USB when done.
4. Go to SD card/Phone Memory and eject card.
5. With phone still running, take out the old card and insert the new card.
6. Create ext2 partition with ROM Manager or other viable means
7. Connect using USB, copy contents of PC folder back to new SD card.
8. Reboot phone into recovery menu.
9. Perform Nandroid restore.
Maybe the file copy to the PC followed by a Nandroid restore is redundant, but that is how I did it, and it worked.

How do I know if I got my sd card partitioned?
I installed a new 8gb card. I tried to use the method you described here. When I tell ROMManager to partition the card (512MB EXT and 64MB swap size) it reboots and very briefly what looks like a box or package pops up on the screen and then it just displays a white triangle with a yellow exclamation sign and a green android beside it. I have to remove the battery and reboot the phone.
What is happening or what am I doing wrong?
the phone will boot up ok and when I look at SD card and Memory in Settings it says 6.85GB avail and 6.85GB free.

I think I got it! in rom manager I flash clockworkmod and then it the format the partition thing to take place

[Q] SD Card problems!!!!!

Heyy All,
I have a couple of questions.. I wanted to partition my SD card so that apps2sd would work. Here are the steps i took:
Did a nandroid backup
I copied all information from SD card to my computer
rebooted phone into recovery
chose partition SD card when finished upgraded ext2 to ext3
copied and pasted all files back onto the SD card
nandroid restored
in recovery I am able to access all files on the SD card but when i reboot my phone an icon comes up in the notification bar that looks like a SD card with an exclamation point with the error "Blank SD card or unsupported file system"
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? or why my files are no longer on the SD card when I reboot my phone?
Thank you all very much!
You shouldn't have posted this in two different places. See my answer in the other thread.

How to create an sd-ext partition?

I am trying to create an sd-ext partiton so I can move applications and backup to that partition on my 4GB external SD card.
I've got ROM Manager 4.8.0.8 but when I select Partiton SD card it reboots and tries to reformat but I don't see anything on the Card just a LOST.DIR folder. I can't read the system messages when in Recovery mode cos it all happens so fast.
I tried via ADB and booted into recovery and selected the option to partition manually but still nothing. I reformatted the card with FAT32. Nothing.
Am I doing something wrong?
Just throwing something out there. Try rebooting into Clockwork Recovery. In CWR, go to Advanced -> Partition SD Card -> Select the size. If it doesn't work, it shouldn't reboot your device (If I remember correctly). Take a look at the log (Advanced -> Show log).
Hopefully this helps a bit.
Hmmm he's right, you have to flash cwm first.
If your device is not listed in rom manager, find cwm for your device on xda and connect your device to the pc in fastboot mode, extract the zip and copy recovery.zip to the folder where fastboot on your pc is and give the command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
after flashing cwm,do as suggested
Also, you can partition it by downloading Easeus partition manager on your pc and choose the ext2 partition as the second one and a size of 512 mb is enough in most cases
go into CWM and select advanced thn move onto partition SD card
it would ask u how much space to partition after that select swap size as 642 or above and wait for few minutes.... remember tot ake a backup of ur SD card as all the data would be cleared while partitioning
Thanks. The first problem was that the latest version of ClockworkMod Recovery 4.2 doesn't see my external SD card. No idea why. I used the 3.2 version which does see the external card and formatted the card first (after backing up!!). Then Advanced Partition SD card but I get a message saying : "Too many people have bricked their devices by doing this. Therefore this feature has been disabled."
I tried another Recovery Manager - Rogue Recovery and that showed messages saying it was formatting. I rebooted but when I looked at the SD card - nothing. However, I downloaded Easeus partition manager (looks good) and it showed that there is an sd-ext with a lost+found folder in it.
Is that normal? If yes then why didn't someone say that it would be invisible?!! If not, what happened?
Seems there are problems with the SD card. When I try to point TitaniumBackup to my SD card it sees the folders as Read Only. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=18559 and http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=18501. It was obviously a bit silly to call internal storage the same name as an external SD card. HD as in hard drive (I know its not) would be better. Or just Storage or whatever. NO doubt people have been accidentally formatting their internal memory instead of the card and that's why it was disabled in Clockwork Recovery. And by the way I'm using the hacked Android 4 - so the problem is still there even in 4 (Ice Cream)
The easiest way to get sd card partitioned is using Mini Partition Tool on PC.
Dikirim dari WT19i gue pake xda premium
Now does cwm also do the ext partition? and if not what program would work well I have a 2gb sd card for my samsung admire and I want to make a ext partition so i can move some more files to it.And later get larger card up to 16gb and do the same.
Thanks,
Doug

try to format it thru phone
Tried that a couple of time and it didn't work. After a couple of reboots it worked now. Thanks.
Still got a question though.
What are the correct settings for formatting the sd card from windows?
Is it necessary to partition it from CWM? What are the correct setting for this?
LE: Ok. I got myself deeper in trouble. I managed to format the sd card from CWM. I mounted the sd card and copied update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-p500-signed.zip over. I wiped the phone's memory and tried to install CM7 and got the following error: "E: Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-p500-signed.zip (bad)". I also tried with update-oxygen-2.3.2-LGP500-KANG-signed_v2.6.zip but doesn't work either.
I was thinking of trying to partition the sd card from CWM but i'm afraid i will make it unable to mount back again and this time i got no android to format it from.
Also it seems that formatting the sd card from cwm doesn't really work. The files are still there though it says that it completed.
LE2: I managed to mount sd card from cwm and copied over a cwm backup folder i had in my computer. Takes a while to copy it like it really does something. But after i try to restore or remount usb storage the files aren't there anymore.
can you tell me why do you want to patition your sd card? do you want to create second partition (sd-ext) or what?

Just format your SDCARD from SETTINGS - STORAGE, after that proceed with the instalation of CM7 or whatever you want. Don't partition your SDCARD if you don't know how to do that and if you don't need partitioned SDCARD. It is not necessary to do that if you don't use an APPS2SD app, so don't waste your time with that.

[Q] Extra storage on SD card

Hi, I've installed CM7 on my SD card so that when I switch on my NT16 with the SD card it boots to CM7 and Android 3.7.3. I've extended the 4th partition on the SD card to make use of the card's full capacity but I can't seem to put any files onto this partition.
When I explore the SD card it just shows less than 200MB. When I connect the NT16 with the SD card to my laptop it shows two removable disks but when I click either it says to insert a removable disk.
Any ideas as to how I can put files onto my SD card?
Gotta put it into USB mode.
Only way I know how on my 8GB NT is to:
1) Boot from the CM7 SD card.
2) Once running CM7, connect cable to PC.
3) Android bot will appear on screen with a button that you can click to get it into USB mode.
4) Only after you click will both drives (internal and SD card) appear on the PC.
i tried the sdcard way for roms but i just can't wrap my head around how to get to the fourth partition while using the rom. if u browse to it using a file explorer like root explorer it will only display the rom partition rather than the user data partition.
so the question is: how to get the user data partition to show while using the rom...
Thank you!

[Q] My SD card UNMOUNTS itself

Hy all,
My microSD card doesn't mount. I go to storage - mount SD, it checks for errors in the notification bar for a few seconds and then says SD card safe to remove, like it mounted and unmounted itself. I take it out and put it in my laptop and it works OK. I use the Kingston 16GB class 10.
How i got the problem !
I wanted to make a clean ICS CWM backup and upload it in the nandroid theme [cuz I saw there wasn't a working link for my phone - p768 ICS and I wanted to contribute ] , so I boot in CWM, realise the MD5 error in my ICS backup - take out the extternal SD card and delete the content of MD5 on my laptop, boot again in CWM, then I remember I had taken some important pics that day and i wasn't sure if they would be deleted so I go to mounts, mount my SD card and external SD (I believe here to be the reason for the problem) use adb pull to copy pics and then finally restore my backup and wipe data/cache. Next time i boot up i get the problem described above
So how to make it work again ? I tried booting in CWM again and mounting it but the same ting happens.
Maybe formatting it would solve it, as it works on my winxp laptop, but I should say that i never format the card (its about 2 months old) because I had some bad experience with my USB flash drives and a SD card dying when i needed them + I red that class 10 cards should not be formatted because of some small partition that rules the performance and something... so which program should i use if i ever wanted to format my card and which file system to choose ?
EDIT Formated it with the official format found found at www sdcard org, nothing same problem
I'm thinking of flashing the KDZ
