Freeing up memory

Should I be using task killers to kill unwanted apps from time to time? I read somewhere that it really doesn't help. I installed wolfbreaks v0008. was really flying to start with but now getting a little laggy.also any apps that could stop apps from loading at startup?

Are you trying to free up RAM or phone memory. Doing both will help.

RAM, didn't know freeing up phone memory would help improve performance, didn't really want to get into the complexity of apps 2sd etc.

Deleting the caches in each app every once in a while helps.
For RAM, I dont use task killers at all. I let the system manage itself. And yes it works for 2.2 and even better for 2.3 but 2.1 I have to force close the big running apps sometimes. But I have noticed better performance and better battery too when not using task killers.

Have you ever try 2.3.3 custom rom? Try ThGo2 or TEAM ROM, both have better memory management than stock.

look if that's an app who works and eat all your memory.
i have this problem, and when i have uninstall the app which causes this problem, i have more ram...
you can look in settings> applications> current app, and force close the apps who seems strange.
And so, you can see what app start alone and take all the ram...
Hope it can help you.

[Q] Prevent Facebook-service from running - without removing facebook

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this? All suggestions I see are to remove facebook.
For me I would like to keep it on the phone, as I use it twice a week, but I hate that it always has a service running which takes up to 10mb of ram.
I tried removing that service from the startup list, but it puts itself back in again.
I don't care about the facebook updates (eg. notification) I just want the program to be active when I click on it, not all the time.
Any suggestions?
Freeze it if you have root?

Yeah, I just ROM toolbox for that, but it also removes the icon, so I have to get into ROM toolbox first to defrost it and then to facebook...

I kicked it out of there aswell, but still finds it's way back.
I also disabled it's trigger events... it just keeps coming back.
If I didn't know any better i'd say it's a virus

Better post your question in the MIUI thread, you`ll probably get more help there
