Hi
I bought a 4gig MicroSD and would like to know the steps to update the SD please
Update?
All you need to do is take off the back, pull out the old card, and plug in the new one.
If you want to keep the contents of the old card, just drag the contents to your PC first, then swap the card, and copy the contents back.
update = install a bigger one
tx
take the old out
put the new in =D
thats all you need to do
Now that the mini has been updated to 2.1, are 32 Gig cards supported?
Some initial information was added to http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Xperia_X10_Mini_MicroSD_Cards
You should turn off the phone OR unmount the SDCard before remove it.
TX .. I thought there was some wierd partitioning and formatting and so.
tx to all the help

i hope not because i just bought 16gb class 4 from ebay for £14 ( around $28 )
Ill have to give this to my girlfriend if it does coz i need the biggest possible
Seems like you will have to go shopping again. At least for the X10 the 16Gig limit is replaced with a 32Gig limit. At least if I can believe this page:
h t t p : //gadgets.apnafundaz.com/20 10/09/xperia-x10-whi tepaper-revision-6-for-andr oid-2-1-eclair-no-16m-color-adobe-flash-mu lti-touch-and-more/
Though the link is a bit old. So I was hoping that maybe somebody here had already tried this. As I would rather spend my money on a 32 Gig card then buy a 16 Gig card and hear that I could have got double that.. ;-)
Didn't you guys get the fancy card reader with your E10s/U20s?
I bought my E10i on the launching day and in the box was that USB MicroSD-card reader.
Using it is easy to put your contents of your old MicroSD to a folder on your computer. Either temporary (to move it to the new mSD) or as back-up.
Don't remember it's SE name (have mislayed it as I used the reader and 2GB card that came with X10Mini, for installing Ubuntu on a EeePC 701)
Well.. I didn't get a micro SD reader with my kit in Germany..(I had a couple laying around which I was using but they have both died.. I don't know how a reader seems to just keel over and die.. seems something strange happened on an eject in Linux and now they are dead... tried all sorts of things to resurect them. (Linux detects them.. windows too but the reader doesn't detect any micro SD cards I throw at it.... oh well.
on a brighter note.. I just found an A-Data 16GB Class 10 card for under 30 Euro's its at Jacob Elektronics (there is another 7Euro for sending but still a cheap Class 10 card (if it's a real A-Data Class 10 card, my experience of the A-Data brand has been pretty good.. its a reputable brand and the website/shop seems legit.)
I am convinced it will not be any faster than a class 2 card for general use but the transfers between phone and PC will be super quick and for the price.. why not go for the fastest available?
I will let you all know how it turns out.. if it arrives.
Kiwi
I think the A-Data cards will be fine.
Got a full size A-Data SDHC in my camera 8GB class 6.
just a simple swap with phone switched off.
When I upgraded my contract phone to the mini pro, it was bundled with a 2gb card. I told the operator I'd seen a similar deal on a different network only they were shipping with an 8gb card, not a 2gb.
For my cheek, my phone arrived with an 8gb free of charge
You don't ask, you don't get
and also a spare sd card reader too! (now I have 5 )
Well after waiting over a week for the damn Adata 16GB Class 10 card to turn up I finally got hold of the company who said.. " it may be another 3 weeks because of a supply issue" funny as they said they were in stock when I ordered it.
anyway.. I canceled my order (as I am moving back to New Zealand in 2 weeks) and just bought a Sandisk 16GB Class 4 from Conrad electronics for 36 Euro.. meh.. at least its Sandisk so I trust it not to die after a few weeks use..

Good news. Earlier there was some thread in this forum stating that 32 GB doesn't work in Mini - probably while it was on Android 1.6. How is the access speed ? Is it satisfactory?
ye i wanne update to 32GB too, but thinkin about class2 or class3, so any infos here?

I've looked around for 32Gb card, and the only I found where class 2. I'm sure that cards of higher class will be become available, but at the moment I know of none.
im using 16gb class 2.. all apps on there.. working good to me

I never heard about those manufacturers before so I'm interested in the quality.
Micro SDHC Card.
Hi !
I have been testing a lot of different cards, and my recommendation is this
Transcend Micro SDHC 16 GB Class 6
And it has lifetime Warranty!
With kindly regards MacRoy
MacRoy, thanks for your post
I know tha Transcend and San disk are the leaders in this field but i'm interested in the above mentioned cards because they are the cheapest i could find on e-bay.
I would like to know if anyone has actually used them so they can tell me what is their quality?

Just purchased this one myself, waiting for it to be delivered. An 8 GB Class 6 Transcend card came with the purchase of my HD and it's been the best card I've owned so it was an easy choice for me. I wouldn't go cheap on something like this personally, you get what you pay for.
I bought the 16gb class 6 earlier today because my 16gb class 2 is starting to give me and my computer MAJOR problems. Up until now, the card has worked like a dream. I can't wait to see how much faster the class 6 will be like
i bought this card a few days ago

waiting it to come...
i'm hoping it's gonna be delivered in a 2 weeks period so i'll give my opinion then on the card speed
the card has arrived....
by putting it in my PC the higgest speed I got was 5,2 Mb per second
I would like to make some more test so if anyone can give me some tool for testing the actual speed of the card I will report back with the results...

I have taken 100MB and 1MB in the settings. If that was not ok, please tell me what to put and I'll make the test again...
by this I screenshot I would say that the card is 6MB or am I wrong?
hello,
I bought the "Transcend Micro SDHC 16 GB Class 6" and since I can't flash any ROM, I formatted the card several times (FAT32) but to no avail,
you see the same thing?
Also this card is not compatible if you want to switch on Android.

my card is not transcend but I didn't formatted it when i got it... i just made a restore to defaults and once again installed all of my programs on it.. did you try that?
maybe you should format it with NTFS instead of FAT32?
but i don't understand why you said that you can't flash any ROM? did you try doing that already?
Looks good. Did you try copying 16GB worth of data onto it ? Some of these cards could be fakes and have lower capacity than stated.

by now i have 13,1 GB of data on the card... still haven't filled it to the end
in the SD properties on the phone it says 15185.50 MB of storage availabe... i suppose that that is 16 GB...
I know youre all speed freaks - and youre talking about the class 6 cards...
But i just ordered this one (16GB, Class2, ~22$) (urgh - china product... - i never trust those *g* - but the price is just half of all i've seen before)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270528336681
as the 8GB delivered with the HD also just was Class 2 i thought thats enough for me...
And it's just a third of the price for the class 6 cards youre talking about.
Actual my question is - what do we need class 6 for?
Don't missunderstand me - I don't want to flame anyone for buying class 6 - but in my case about 7 of 8 GB are static on the card (means i transfered it once to the card and it never changes - Music) and 1 GB is dynamic (new Progs and new Music,...) but even this doesn't change every day all at once but about 20mb every day (max).
So with class 6 we save some time on the first copy progress - agree.
And every day about 10 seconds.
I know the example above is just for me but I think it would fit for most of u *g*
So why all people are so keen on this class 6 ? (i ofter read about in this forum not just in HD section)
btw. the tested speeds of those cards - most are tested in external readers are they? Does our HD even reach them in USB mode? or even worse - in ActiveSync mode? Cause i don't take my card out every day to copy some files...
greetings
Edit: k some people might watch videos on their HD every day which could take a while to sync - but USB and ActiveSync quests are still out...
forgot the video thing - cause i just once watched a video on my HD half -> battery life is not made for in my opinion

it all depends on what do you need it for...
for me class 6 saves me a lot of time because i download approximately 10-20 GB of music a month, and somwhere about 20 GB of movies and tv shows...
so basically i transfer somewhere around 1-4 GB a day from my PC to my card...
true, if you're doing that through the USB or ActiveSync you probably won't see the difference, but i often don't have the time to do that so I use the microSD adapter and transfer it a lot quicker to my sd card than it would be done through the USB or ActiveSync
on the end it all depends on what you're looking for and for what price...
Class 6
From what I see, don't bother with class 6 16G. I bought one. Testing the speed on sd card is great but once it put it on HD, it's no different than my Class 2 8G. Could have just purchase a Class 2 16G.

Hi,
I just got an email from ebay asking me not to finalize this order because of problem with the seller.
It seems that this is a scam.
Be careful.
Bemi
the question is not "what is the fastest class 4/6 card" in my eyes.
I bought the HD with the standart 8GB.....class "dont-know"...
of course I thought following:
higher class, bigger card = more expensive than slow and small...
so I tried to find out which card is included....
I found NO information about it. there is nothing to find on the HTC site.
no seriuos information to find on forums...
and nothing "written" on the card itselfe.
so I thought about buying the best and fastet card (testet with real test equipment).....
BUT
because the card-speed is degraded by the hardware you try to read/write....
and there is not a single information to find about what a HTC HD can handle....
(I asked the HTC support and did not get an answer at all)...
I decided to DONT buy another card at all....
I see no advantage to buy the fastes card it the cellphone is not able to use it.
SO : Is there anyone here, how can say that it is worth to buy a class6 card e.g. ??
if : where do you got the information a HD can handle the speed at all ?
thanks
alex

I do believe anything over 4gb is classified as a SDHC. If you can get a class 6 that would be better as it is faster.
16gig's works as well with the possibility of 32. I just don't know if anyone has tried 32gig's
I don't even know of any 32gb micro sd card for sale.
Newegg doesn't carry them.
I am running a 16gb Ridata class 6 and it works fine.
However for the price, I would have to suggest a sandisk Ultra 8gb micro sd
It has about 3 times the read speed as my class 6.
They are both about $50
I wanted more space for media storage and I port around several apps that I use on different computers.

I don't know of anyone who carries them either but 32 gig's is part of the Micro SDHC standard and on adverts for best buy I do notice the logo for some phones that they can accept 32gigs cards. They are around though but I believe mostly in Asia and in small numbers.
Also I'm not sure but I don't think the slot on the G1 takes advantage of anything faster then class 6 for SDHC memory cards. This is because it would draw more voltage and the device might get to hot.
32GB Class 4's are supported.

Thats too big, and probably expensive. Should be saving those pennies for nexus..
I just purchased a 32GB microSDHC on ebay for under $30!!! Just got it in the mail and have been testing it to make sure it actually works, and it works fine. I am having a few problems. Nothing really major, just some issues between the phone, Windows 7, and Lucid Lynx Ubuntu. The phone, as well as Windows 7 only recognizes 31.2 GB and Ubuntu recognizes 34GB. I am unable to partition the card for Apps2SD with the console, parted, or in Ubuntu. In Amon RA's recovery it says it has partitioned the card but the time it takes to do it is too fast. In parted I get an input\output error and it asks me if i want to retry\ignore\cancel and parted is only recognizing 33.6GB. If i retry or cancel in parted it goes through and the print command says my partitions are there as I have set them up but the phone and Ubuntu don't recognize them and disk utility in Ubuntu says my ext partition is not clean when I run the partition check. I don't know what else to try and have put this here only because the 32GB card is mentioned. Any and all help and info is very much appreciated.

Sorry dude, I think you were scammed. eBay is notorious for these fake cards. Allow me to explain.
A lot of this stuff popped up when the PSP came out. People wanted cheap Memory Stick Pro Duo cards. These manufacturers found a way to hack the sectors, making the card look bigger than it actually is. You could make a 1gb card look like a 4gb card.
Firstly, you would get tons of I/O errors. This is because it is trying to address places that simply don't exist.
Secondly, the memory would fail at random intervals. This was because they bought cheap flash chips.
The problem is that there is no way to guarantee authenticity from eBay unless you're buying it direct from the manufacturer.
IMO, only buy Sandisk products. They are the only ones reliable out there. And yes, they aren't the cheapest, but they are the most reliable.
Here is the best pricing I could find for you:
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-micro...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1280509434&sr=1-1
Being though Amazon, you can trust it IMO.
Taking delivery of my phone soon.
What's the latest on microSD cards?
Are 32GB worth it? Do they work?
Any particular minimum Class I should get, even if I have to get 16GB?
Thanks

am using class 6 works fine.
I use an 8Gb, class 4 without any issues. Resco is installed on the card.
Although if your going to flash a ROM from a micro SD card use one < 8Gb.
Thanks,
Al
From my experience, it's not the class or size that matters. It's the make. (Obviously a smaller card with a higher class will have faster r/w speeds, but that's not usually a noticeable issue.)
I never buy any SD cards now that are not SanDisk, and I can't remember the last time I had one that didn't work.
Some brands seem to get a lot of complaints.
The class wouldn't really matter if you're just using it to store data/apps.
I use a Nokia N900 and run Android off the SD card. A higher class gives a better speed when running an O/S off of one. But using one to store data/apps wouldn't give a noticable advantage of one class than another.
Obviously the size does matter but depends on what you'll use it for.
Plus for flashing use < 8Gb.
Thanks,
Al
PS. I agree with the brands. I don't buy cheap non-branded ones. Although I've never had an issue with any of the 'cheap' ones.
The size of the card depends on your needs. If you cram a lot of stuff in there or apps, then aim for 16gb or 32gb.
You can find 32gb on amazon from $70 up (sandisk, kingston, dane elec -- those are deem legit 32gb cards) and most of them should give real class 4 performance (even when they're listed as class 2 like sandisk).
For me I like San Disk, but I want to test Toshiba 16GB Class4.The seller told me that Toshiba quality is good also and I decided to buy it.
Never had any problem with file transfer and running android on SD card.
I've used it 4 months now.So far so good.
I use a kingston 8gb class 4.. Never had any issues with performance
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I'll probably run Android off the card initially with the standard WM 6.5 tweaked. Maybe put some SatNav on there too.
As for Apps depends what I come across. For WM I have an old large build of offline Wikipedia and some dictionaries etc.

I had my 8GB SanDisk in my G1 for 2 years, then my HD2 for about 8 months, then randomly one day it stopped working.
If I plugged it in, all of my content appeared on the phone such as pictures. Then after about 30 seconds it would freeze, and then the phone would say no SD card is inserted. I managed to copy all of my pictures across on the PC luckily before it froze.
Granted it was old - but they do fail after a while.

try formatting the block size to 32KB
An sd card does not need to be formated only hdd do... What couldve hapend is that your boot sector got screwed up. Try putting your sd card in an card reader and connect it to the pc. On windows 7 go to start type cmd and hit enter. Then type: chkdsk /X /F /A:, where A: is your card reader. Hit enter and wait. I revived a couple SD Card by this method. Without losing any data!
***Ignore this***
Edited for clarity.
I have a Class4 16 gb card. Worked well so far.
Guys - Can we lose the personal criticism here - this thread is bang on the money with a problem I'm really struggling with and I'd hate for the thread just to become a shouting match.
My daughters x10 Mini Pro (running latest paul-xxx version of CM7) is just refusing to play nicely with a Sandisk 8Gig Class 4 SDHC which has prviously worked perfectly in a Samsung Genio.
On the 8 Gig card music jumps between tracks as you are listening , apps moved to SD Card refuse to run, photos save OK and will open once in Gallery but then the jpgs get corrupted and cannot be reopened on the phone or when transfered to a PC.... and to crown it all I get random reboots/freezes.
If I drop back to an old Kingston 2 Gig Micro-SD (ie non-SDHC) everything on the phone works fine and yet when I format the 8Gig card on my PC, there are never any errors and I can then copy files on and off the card (via the card reader in the PC) multiple times with no issues.
Is this just a somewhat more extreme example of other peoples experiences or would you suspect my micro SD is b*ggered?
I suspect that this "quality" Sony phone is just so sensitive to SDHC cards that I need to get one which others can confirm works reliably and stick to it.
For now my daughter is content to run with the 2 Gig card and have a stable, working phone but obviously she'd like to carry more than a dozen Albums and Apps at any time.
Any advice?
The reason I am asking is this:
When I bought my nook, I put in an 8gb (4) Kodak that I already had and not a problem with anything. I recently bought a 32gb (2) that I found for cheap and it formats ok, but when I put book or music on it, the nt dumps half or more of them into the lost files folder. Just acting screwy so I figure that this card is not going to work for me. What are other people using?
I'm using a 32GB PNY class 4. No problems at all. I wonder if class 2 may cause problems?
I'm using a Class10 PNY 16gb card, It was cheap on Black Friday.
If any one gets the Nook-Tab to boot off a card, you will want to do some digging into what has quickest in the 'small block read' category.
All i wanted was some cheap storage, so i just got the the PNY, in practice i have no problems playing 720P on it, and i don't think it will be even close to a bottle neck playing 1080p either.
Check newegg. 32 gigs there for under 50, 15gigs for around 14, etc. i have links on my dropbox thread
I got a Sandisk 16gig, class 4 from Radio Shack for 16.99. I formatted it in SD Formatter 3.1 and have had 100% success with it on every download.
I started with an old 8GB Class-4 SanDisk and move on to a Class-10 PNY. The difference in file transfer is critical for me, I add a lot of contents and remove them when I'm done.
I wanted a card quick. I found a 16GB Lexmar at Office Depot for $18.
It's working fine, but has mostly data so far.
I did use sd formatter in every way possible, wiped the nt, formatted with the nook, all ended up with the same result. Has to be a card issue. More than likely it is because it is a (2), but not sure. Just a heads up to make sure you check the number before buying memory.
I'm using an Amazon Basics 16GB Class 10 card that I picked up from Amazon for $25. It's been working very well, and the speed tests out to what a Class 10 should run at.
I'm using a SanDisk 32GB class 4 card. According to SD Tools, write speed is 4 to 5 MB/s, read speed is about 18 MB/s. I haven't had any trouble with data files, but haven't yet tried to watch any videos from it.
san disk 32Gb class 4 $36 newegg. Works fine got it about two months ago when I saw the price.
Random SanDisk 16GB that I pulled out of an old OG Droid. It works as it should and I haven't had any issues with it.
I plan on using: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BOMU3K/ref=pe_175190_21431760_cs_sce_dp_1
class 10 32gb for about 50 bucks, just waiting on the nook now.
There are lots of places that sell 'hacked' flash drives that report higher capacity then they actually are, you'll get lost files left and right with them. The SD card's wont look any different then a real one, they just aren't. Best to avoid any deals that seem too good unless its direct from one of the big vendors.

(forgive the xxx, I can't post links yet)
I just bought this Lexar 32GB for $47 (when it was on sale):

I formatted it using the SDFormatter program posted in another thread here.
Transferring 192 ebooks (about 370MB) from Calibre to my Nook Tablet took about 3 minutes which is much better than my 8GB Class 4 SD card I was using. It would have taken like 40 minutes for some reason.

If I get one, I'll grab a 16 gig sandisk class 4 for 20$ on the newegg.
I ordered a Sandisk 32gb Class 4 from Amazon for $35 (free Prime shipping) to replace a 16gb I took out of my Iconia A500.

32 GB PNY lass 10. Working well.
I think you want a fast card. Where you can have issues is if you want to run your OS off of the SDcard. I did this on my Nook Color. Then it was very fussy about which card to use. For just storage (which seems to be all you can use the card for on the NT), I think any class 4 and up card will work.
Transcend Class 4 32GB from Bestbuy, $45. But I had a $25 gift card, so I used that to eat some of the cost.
Works great.

Save money and stick with class 4 or 6. Booting off sd for NT is not in the foreseeable future as of now.
