WiFi Proxy - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi everybody!
I was wondering: is there any possibility to set a proxy (maybe using a 3rd party application) to surf to the Internet, when I'm connected to a WiFi network?
My university uses a proxy for all the outgoing connection, so I need to set it in any terminal I want to connect to the Internet with.
I'd prefer not to enable the "root mode" on my LG Optimus One, because it would invalidate the 2 years warranty.
Have a nice weekend!

I searched on net and it seems, that it is not possible. Most problem is, that some custom ROM is needed - in this case you will most probably lose warranty.
Maybe is some way in rooting of phone and editing of appropriate files. Because rooting is reversible operation, may bee there won't be any problem.

Thank you for the reply!
Is the rooting a reversible operation?
I mean: can I install a proxy for my phone (in root mode) and then deactivate the root mode?
Can LG notice I entered the root mode and deny my warranty?
It's my first Android phone (actually, it's my first smartphone ever!) and I'm a bit confused...

Yes, it is.

Well, it's not impossible for LG to notice that you rooted (and then unrooted) your phone. But even if LG doesn't notice what you have done, it doesn't matter: rooting the phone voids the warranty... you are then free to unroot the device but the warranty remains void.

Install Any Cut (search on the web or market).
Through Any Cut create a shortcut to home of the option Proxy Setting (I think is under Action menu').
Clicking on the shortcut you can change the proxy for the standadrd browser only.
(Browsers like SkyFire have the proxy option in them preferences setting).
In any case, I have never tested this method, but should work for the browser..I do not know if it works for the app too.

In the next weeks I'll check if the AnyCut solution works for me...
Thanks everybody!

Issue 1273: IP Proxy Settings for Wifi Network
It is not possible to set up proxy setting settings for WiFi network.
1. Menu > Settings > Wireless controls > Wi-Fi settings > Menu > Advanced
Settings for all Wi-Fi networks

i managed to set proxy server using "transparent proxy". this app needs superuser rights

any other ways of doing this without rooting the phone?

My P500 is rooted. But I still dont know how to access wifi via proxy.
I tried to use 3rd party program such as Proxysetting, Transproxy, Android GappProxy, Asproxy, Orbot,... The only working program on 500 is Asproxy (download on Applanet). However, it made me crazy that the status is Running just about 2-3 minutes, and then it comes to Waiting with reason: Couldn't check license. Anyone help me solve this problem??? (this program need root and superuser rights).
Many thanks!

i see it is an old post, but if u still need some app for proxy settings (with authentication)
i recommend using PRoxyDroid
I use it over my college network and it works fine
it is a free app
just google for 'proxydroid apk' incase u want to install it from apk
u need to root ur phone to use this
NOTE: ROOTING DOES NOT VOID THE WARRANTY. THIS IS A CONFIRMED NEWS

orbot?

Hello,
Anyone got orbot working right?
MY phone is rooted but when i turn on orbot (tor) and select transparent it still does not anonymize me. What am i doing wrong?
Did you choose "Web" under Apps in Orbot after enabling the transparency setting?
thanks
Cappy,
I didn't have that selected. I selected it and now inet all together is not working. is there other settings like bridge? that need to be set?
Also will it work without 3g?
I haven't tried on 3G, just WiFi. I select Transparency and Web, and when I want to use my normal connection again, I disable Orbot and also need to uncheck the Transparency option, seemingly. Works for me.
still not working any ideas?
This will sound CRAZY - but...
Open Voice Dialer -
Say:"Proxy"
Open window for Proxy Settings and configure for Orbot.
I stumbled upon this while wildly searching for a solution - I totally thought it was a joke but had to try and sure enough - perfection! (you only get the HTTP proxy so not sure about solution for SOCKS)
Good luck - hope this helps!
Cheers!
Aron
anybody want to lend me a hand on this
Im getting this message:"No Tor Server allows exit to [scrubbed]:80. Rejecting
This occurs.after I turn on transparent proxying
I left the proxy and port blank on my 3G connection

[Q] Tethering with rooted ICS phone

I have searched extensively on Google, and XDA but can't find the right answer.
I want to tether my phone. I can do this directly in Android but my current carrier brings up a message in the browser saying it's not supported on my current plan.
I'm addressing this, but in the mean time I'm curious if there is a way round it, hypothetically.
I have seen some Apps, such as ClockWork Mod Tether, but since my phone is rooted I wondered if there is a more elegant solution that doesn't involve any software to be added to my PC.
I read about using TB to freeze a specific App/Process but couldn't find any details.
Any advice would be great,
thanks

HOW have you not heard of android wifi tether? One of the first reasons I had for rooting the first Android phone I got.
There's also Barnacle Tether, available on the play store.
Guess Barnacle is gone... but there are other tethering apps on the play store though.
And I'm wrong again. Barnacle is still there, but doesn't show up when I search from my phone. How curious.
Since your phone is rooted you can download wireless tether.
Google it and you will easily find the download link or even directly via the play store.

I appreciate the reply, but if you read my post again the issue I'm having is not an app to enable wifi tether directly on the handset, it's that the packet data is being detected as not from the phone so I get a message, on the computer, in the internet browser saying my priceplan doesn't include tethering. I cant get around this 3 website redirect. So, I need a way to tether, without the network knowing... The apps you mention work when the block is at the phone level I believe.... This is something different Three is doing..
Please correct me if I'm wrong though...
Oh, and as for the apps not showing up, the mobile phone providers asked google to block these apps for certain customers.. if you connect to a wifi network when in flight mode, and go the google market, you should still be able to see them...

I WAS on wifi.
And did you ACTUALLY download the tether app and try, or were you using the tether built into the settings of Android? Because it sure doesn't sound like you downloaded the app...
And I don't have tethering on my carrier plan, but the tether app works just fine for me.

Initially when I first posted I was trying the built in app but I downloaded the app you suggested anyway, but it didn't work. would connect to the computer but no data connection. Unsure if its an app problem or still a three problem, but I don't see how this app would fix the three problem. Does it somehow mask the PC data connection??? I couldn't see anything in the settings or set up that suggest that it would, it just looks like a more feature rich wifi hotspot app?? In addition I found mention that that others with my issue have also tried these apps like barnacle and it didn;t resolve the problem....

They can suspend your service if they discover you are doing tethering on your device if you are not alowed in your current plan.
I Hope you wont have any issues.
Otherwise it is possible that the sim card lock the feature even on rooted phone when detect thetering or it is impossible ?

yes I suppose they could do, but like I say I'm resolving this with my contract. It's more that I'm curious how they are doing it, and on principle don't like being told what I can and can't do
It can't be a sim lock.
I just tried tethering a Macbook, and amazingly that worked!.. SO, It must be something to do with the Packet Headers I'm guessing.. Or they are doing some other more detailed packet sniffing... It means there is definitely a software route around it... Need a clever developer to read this thread
I guess clockworkMod Tether might work, but I want a solution without a PC install..

When you use thetering, you embark to the provider internet network.
for example my provider is Bell Canada and their proxy is web.wireless.bell.ca
this one is for the device internet
for the thetering one they use another configuration settings when i connect my device to the computer.
What happen is when you plug your device to the computer, a signal is sent to the provider stating you entered in thetering mode. You don't have access to thetering so your internet connection is limited to the walled garden of the provider stating you are not subscrided to the service. Thats why i think they blocked the port 80 on your device and redirect you to that page.
Now for the Macintosh story.. It is not impossible that you can connect without problem with a mac and safari. I know a lot of people emulating a handled device with the Mac and the safari browser and those peeps didnt had a thetering plan.
The differences came with the drivers installed. Mac OS one are quite different in term of functionality than windows, thats why maybe the provider is able to sniff more easily people using windows but i am not a senior programmer. I am currently taking courses to become one but for now it is only suppositions. If i am wrong feel free to correct me but I am quite sure about what i am saying and that's why you dont have issues with a mac

This sounds correct to me. I'm pretty annoyed though. Only had the contract a month, I was told I could move onto a more expensive plan within contract if I needed more allowance etc.. Phone up 3, not only do they not let you PAY MORE for a different plan, but they also don't let anyone shift onto the one plan ever, unless its a new contract.. So basically **** them... so even if I want to pay extra for tethering I can't... absolute nonsense...
I had the same issue with three. I downloaded masqued crusader from play store. Activated it and then started wireless/usb tether. It worked. That was a while back tho. On a payg sim card on a galaxy s on gb. Its worth a try though.

[Q] Tethering S3 to iPad - Cannot access the Internet with iPad

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (Mini) with Jelly Bean 4.1.2. I recently bought iPad 4 (Wifi only) and decided to try to do some tethering with my phone. I entered the "Tethering and portable hotspots" submenu and paired up successfully with the iPad. However, I couldn't access the Internet with the iPad even though the connection to my S3 was okey. Everything just seemed to be loading and loading, and Chrome said something about DNS servers. I gave up and tried to Bluetooth-route. Again I was successful in connecting the two devices with the link symbol appearing in the upper left of the iPad's screen. Yet again the Internet did not work.
I should mention that I live in a country where there's no tethering regulation so I can just use the default tethering settings. I did think about if using Avast, power saving mode or anything other affected the tethering process, but after turning Avast and power saving mode off, nothing happened. I also double-checked that I could access Internet via my phone. I also double checked that I had my mobile data on.
There isn't any setting in S3's "Tethering and portable hotspots" submenu that I could try to change (I've tried tethering with and without a password). I can do something about hotspot Wifi-connection from the iPad (according to the manual):
Adjust the settings for connecting to a Wi-Fi network: Tap next to a network. You can set an HTTP proxy, define static network settings, turn on BootP, or renew the settings provided by a DHCP server.
Click to collapse
However, I cannot do anything if I try to create a hotspot using Bluetooth.
I would appreciate help immensely!
On the tethering section, and since you only doing it for an ipad, go to configure the access point and tap advanced settings. Try changing the broadcast channels from auto to 10.
I work on a technical support desk and it seems that Ipads are very very fussy on lower channels, i am unable to test this as i don't own an Ipad but it may be worth a shot.

I first created the Wifi hotspot connection between SG3Mini and the iPad. In SG3Mini, I entered Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names (APNs) -> *chose my provider's Internet/Wap settings* -> wrote down Proxy, Port, (User Name, Password)
Then in iPad, I entered the Wifi-settings, Tapped the > next to the SG3Mini's Hotspot connection and added the APN info in the HTTP Proxy settings. I originally tried to use the User Name and Password but it didn't work so I just used Proxy and Port. Then I tapped the "Renew" option.
After this, I could tether without problems.

I have been noticing that on the lg g4 and now the v10 that mobile my account shows small usage of mobile data but not the actual amount I used. I might just be a mobile thing. Not quite sure but I too saw the same thing. But I also watched a week's worth of anime on my laptop via router and only was a 20mb increase in hotspot usage.
What are your mobile settings and the app settings? Thanks

I used all the same as the stock apn except I changed to ipv4...I assume you're rooted. Did you turn off the wifi scan setting under wifi?
Yes, I'm rooted and the scanning is off. I have even emailed the developer of the app. His last response was that I need a vpn.
There must be some sneaky software tracking whether you have tethering enabled. My Hotspot Data is being used/throttled no matter if I'm behind a VPN or tethering to another Android phone.
I'm rooted, removed all of the suspicious looking system apps, and set the APN settings to what I've always used before. I'm at the point of giving up and probably just going to use another phone to tether until a stable custom ROM is released.
I used to have this problem on my old Note 4 where the WiFi Tether app was working perfectly but Tmo was still tracking my data usage. The workaround that I found was to connect to a private VPN on my laptop. I used Private Internet Access to hide my IP and then I was able to tether off my phone with Tmo no longer capturing data used. I'm not sure if it will work on my new v10 though since I haven't gotten around to rooting it yet. I think there's a free Google Chrome extension that will do that same thing and for free. I forgot the name, sorry.
On my note 3 the guide I followed said I had to change the build file in a couple spots and then it worked perfect if that helps u guys out at all I really want this but can't use a vpn bc ps4 won't allow it with online gaming and my phone all I got out here in the woods

LG G5 H820 AT&T Tethering & Hotspots Enabled But Not Working

Hi guys, i have a Unlocked AT&T LG G5 H820 (Android 7.0 Software H82020n) and using it on the Three Network here in the U.K
Tethering & Hotspots wasn't initially selectable so i Googled it and found the solution:
Download 'Settings database editor' from play store, after installing you will see option system, Then go to: Tether_entitlement_check_state Click over it then Change the value to 0.
Now when i Tether, it is selectable, but nothing seems to happen & has no network connection. Hotspot is the same, i can create a Hotspot, but if other devices try connecting , it connects, but no internet connection.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

What do you mean? I didn't test the tethering and hotspot... But I had an issue that I didn't have 4G, couldn't access the internet just with the SIM card. But now it's solved... Forgot to configure the APN (Access Point Names). And when I bought the phone I was concerned that couldn't be used properly(4G) outside America.

Hello friend,
What u mean? How do u did these steps. Is it possible?? Please could u explain?
Go to the playstore & download "Clockwork Mod Tether" Tether works fine with this App
locked wi-fi teather by Provider
There wi-fi tether internet access is locked by mostly cellular-providers.
I add the APN on my LG G5 - take it from your cellular provider.
I dounload the 'Settings database editor' from play store, Then go to: Tether_entitlement_check_state Click over it then Changed the value to 0 to unlock the wi-fi tether.
I have wi-fi tether ON, then connected other device, and there NO internet on other connected device due the locked wi-fi tether internet access. Call your cellular provider and ask them is it locked or unlocked wi-fi tether internet access. If it locked ask them how to unlock - mostly it cost some money.
You can check the wi-fi tether working or not from another sim-card that you sure 100% works.
I had the same problem, and I founded the solution:
Go to Play Store, and download an app called "Settings Database Editor"
Once u downloaded it, search Tether_entitlement_check_state
Change the value to "-1"
Done, no need for reboot
sorry for my bad english, hope I could help u
