Water Damage - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
My Eris has been acting up, and so I called Verizon and I'm getting my 2nd replacement sent. However, today I managed to drop the phone in the toilet . The little sticker on the charger port is red with slightly pink spots. Is that the normal color? I was being honest when I said there was absolutely no water damage when I called, but obviously that's no longer true. I don't want to have to pay for the thing when I can just go out and buy a new phone that actually works (none of my eris' have worked well for me). Am I screwed? I have in a bowl of rice right now - last I checked the phone was working, but it thinks I have a headset plugged in.
Thanks!

If that sticker shows any sign of being in contact with water then verizon will void the warranty regaurdless if it works or not. I would call them and tell them or they may charge you retail price for it.

So you're saying that I'm better off calling now rather than letting it go? Or will they charge me regardless? I'm just wondering how elaborate their RMA system is, seeing that they receive thousands of phones daily and wondering how they could single mine out. Would I not have to pay if I called now instead?

Well if you called and they had already sent the phone I would imagine they would let you return it with no charge. If you try to return the damage phone you run the risk of them catching it and charging you up to $500. Im not saying they would definitly catch it, but I would imagine they would try to spot something like that to save money. I personally wouldn't take the risk, but that's just me.

+1 Don't take the risk. They may be nice and let you swap anyway (just a guess - not from personal experience). Let them know it still appears to work, hopefully by the time you call the headset thing will go away, too. You shouldn't even have it on or have the battery in until you let it dry for a long time, though.
Good idea about the rice. I'd suggest a fan blowing on the bowl of rice, too. Good luck.

So I dropped mine into water too and have the headphone issue also lol. I, however, have the monthly insurance plan that the Verizon reps told me covered water damage. Is there a way I can get a different phone instead of another eris? Say an incredible for instance?

Doubtful unless you already qualify for an upgrade or pay a retail price since your phone wasn't even defective, you just damaged it.

I do believe one of the four phones on my plan is up for an upgrade. I don't have time to handle much more then paying the bill haha. Could you enlighten me as to how much an Incredible is as an upgrade?

Not really, I have no idea. www.wirefly.com had them for free with a new plan, but I heard it was through Monday night at midnight, but it'd be worth checking out just in case they extended it. Don't know if Verizon has any promotions going on, either. I've used www.letstalk.com in the past as well. If you want a referral to them that would give us both a $25 credit, PM me and I'll send you one.
Edit: FYI, Verizon gives better upgrade plans to the primary line on your account. The other lines don't get as good as an upgrade deal.

I ended up taking it to the Verizon store - the guy there told me it wasn't flared enough for them to call it water damaged. So I lucked out. However, the replacement I just got keeps overheating >:-(. Eris #4 comes Friday.

Sounds like its about time to have verizon send you a droid 2

I know! I made another thread but... how can I get them to do that?

Good luck!!!

Jusy start getting angry with them. Tell them you've had so many replacements and you don't want another eris cause they can't send you one that works. If the rep wont do it, keep at it, threaten to go to another carrier. If that's a no go, ask to talk to a supervisor. Gotta keep at it though and eventually you should get one. You will however have to buy a battery and battery cover for the phone, which is about $50, but still not a bad price.

Definitely an awesome price. Even if it's refurbished. I've tried threatening to switch, but I think because I'm 17 they don't believe me lol. I was told to be polite or else they won't but it sounds like I need a supervisor to make something happen. I'll let you know how it works out after I get the replacement, which I'm sure will have some kind of issue...

Well just watch out for those droid 2s. The first one they sent me instead of the eris the mic was broken, so im already on my second d2 lol

Verizon Trade-In Program get $132!

Verizon now has a trade in program and I put in some of my old Phones(Palm 700p and Samsung i760) only to find out they were worthless. However when I put in my Eris it came up with a surprising $132. Being that I only paid $50 in the first place for it, I'm shocked. Thought I would share this with the community. Oh yeah, if you want to do it, here is the site https://www.trade-in.vzw.com/AppraisalPage.aspx
You paid more than $50. It's subsidized by your contract.
Are they going to send you a check or do you get a discount off from something else? I am assuming you have to buy something else at full price.
$132 for Eris!!!
I did the same thing this morning (I already had upgraded to a Droid X). $132 is not a bad price for that device. I also have a Moto Droid 1 and I put that in, and it only came up as $50????? As far as how they pay you, they pay you in Verizon Gift Cards. With those, I turn around and pay my bill thus freeing up money I didn't have before!
Oh thats cool.
I did the wizard for the Eris and at first got only $46...but then I realized I clicked YES YES YES too fast. The third one should be NO if you want to see what top dollar is.
So how would this work? We'd get the rebate but still have a bit of time on our contracts, but have no phone. We'd have to then either buy new phones at full retail or re-up our contracts. Am I right?
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Yes you would need to have some other phone that I were using. You could do the renewal then trade in the old phone later and apply it to your bill.
If you are on a family plan you might be able to steal the discount from another line and get an incredible for 149. That might be what I do because I have 3 lines out of contract and the people on those lines don't want a new phone. I'm just wondering if I should wait till 4g phones come out.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
I signed up a few minutes ago! Already switched to the Droid X a while back. Just wondering.. Are we supposed to include the charger? The microSD card? It never mentions anything but the phone itself. I don't need either of these things, but don't want to look stupid if I shouldn't include them lol..
EDIT: I missed the FAQ link at the bottom of their site. So to answer my own question, do not include any accessories with the device. =]
I sold mine on Craigslist for $150 and turned around and bought a Droid for $175. If you live in certain areas, there are a lot of cell phone places that want to buy Eri and the like to flash to MetroPCS or Cricket and charge another $100 for them. Just something else to think about.
I cannot believe Big Red will give you more for an Eris than for a Droid 2 or Droid X. Anyone care to speculate?
Eris is like a fine wine or what?
Verizon is trying to get more replacements to avoid giving droid eris users higher end replacements like DX.

So I just "lost" my phone, I say lost because it was lost for 3 days and, being that its my only line of communication, I had to buy another one using insurance. Can I turn the old one in for this deal? Or does VZW void your IMEI when you lose a phone?
Never mind, that's part of the agreement. Crap, I was hoping to get an easy $132 (well really $42 since I had to pay $90 to asurion).
I don't think they check. Good luck

Turns out the grass isn't always greener...

So after going through 3 Eris handsets and finally finding a CSR who had enough to sympathy on me to send out an Incredible, I've now gone through 2 of the latter. Both have reboot loop issues, the first wouldn't even go past the quietly brilliant screen while the second can go four hours before deciding not to work for an hour. This is the most frustrating thing I've ever been through. I'm gonna try to talk customer service into a new Inc instead of a refurbished one and see if that changes anything. Otherwise I'm just going to keep the third Eris and steal my moms upgrade in June I guess.
Moral of the story, just because something looks better doesn't mean it always is.

I went through 3 Eris's and I'm on my second D2, which I haven't had any problems with. The refurbs from Verizon are hit and miss, mostly miss. Good luck getting them to send you a new one. I have a feeling your going to have to put up a good fight for that. Hopefully it works out for you though.
Fortunately I've had nothing but good experiences with customer service. I'll ETF my contract if they refuse to help and I'll go to Sprint.

Never had an issue with my original new devices on Verizon, so never had to deal with the refurb. But I'd still take mom's in June and get something hardcore (Like the Merge?)
If the third one coming on Tuesday has the same issue then that's exactly what I'll do.

I was hoping for the Merge as well, but everything that I have seen rumored about it lately says it is going to Alltel. (several sites are posting that the Merge passed FCC yesterday for Alltel) So probably it wont be in your average Verizon store. I was hoping for an HTC device that has something smaller than a the mammoth 4.3 inch screen and the keyboard was something of a bonus to me.
I'll probably be going with an HTC device when I get my upgrade/ get a different carrier. Moto has made me never want to buy another phone from them because of the efuse, and the Evo is awesome....

Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
Why would they not lock down the bionic after the success they had with the x? Sales and security wise. Locking it down didn't hurt either company. A tier 3 Verizon tech told me not to be surprised if it's businessas usual. They know I'm rooted and "hacked" so I don't care. Time to leave Verizon because they want **** locked down as hard as possible.

I just told the tech lady that after having had 3, I was really not looking to get another one and she just gave it to me, no ifs, ands, or buts. They've already offered to send me an X because of the Inc trouble, but I said I'd give the Inc one more shot, so tomorrow is HTC's last chance to redeem themselves in my eyes.
Hit or miss again... my husband tried it with Verizon and the rep told him Quote: "go ahead." there was no help at all, no "You've been such loyal customer for 10+ years... what can we do to help?", no "Sorry to see you go." nothing, just a basic "Ba-bye!" He is now with Sprint and so far very happy.
This one works! Only problem I've found with it so far is an unexplained lagginess while on the charger, but that I can live with. I wouldn't have had a problem leaving Verizon for Sprint over this issue, it would've been completely unacceptable for them to leave me hanging after all the issues I've had with them, and I would've gladly taken my money elsewhere.

[Q] Screen "dead" in left side

Hi, my screen is unresponsive in about a centimeter thick line going vertical on the left side of my screen. I've downloaded an app called "Touch Test" and it just shows that whole area not able to be recognized when touched and it skips to the left or right. I've tried the "PDS fix" and no luck there.
I've been running CM7 for a while now and this is the first time this is happening today. I haven't installed any applications at all today either.
So I have two questions:
1) Does anyone know of a fix for this instead of getting a new device?
2) If I have to get a new screen or device, is there a way to "relock" or hide evidence of me unlocking the bootloader?
You're screen is toast. No way around it. You can send it into moto and it should be under warranty, if you are the original purchaser and can prove it with receipts blahblahblah.
It has nothing to do with unlocking it. The digitizer died. It's like taking your car to the dealer and them saying your transmission went out because of an intake modification. There are laws in place for this type.of thing, not sure it applies to phones or.electronics but with proper legal counsel you can show cases for cars that apply to this situation...but I digress
If you read the disclaimer closely of the unlock it says "may void warranty", which means if they can prove the unlocking the phone caused the fault it's voided. Ie before sending back to moto RSD to factory or fruitcake it. This way they have no way to blame a software mod that caused the issue. On the flip side, you're dealing with big corp, so it could get hairy if they try to charge you and you refuse to pay. You could always try to fight it and request proof of why it caused the hardware failure via software. In the end, it's cheaper to pay the $125 out of warranty claim with moto then to get a lawyer. blah blah im playing both sides, but the only way to find out is to send it off to moto.
Also if you have att insurance this ois 100% covered even unlocked, I know from personal experience. The only thing that sucks there is dealing with the att cs reps for 2 hours. Again, flash back to stock and don't mention the unlocking. If you know how to deal with tech support properly this will be a simple task to get an expedited warranty claim.
Also, if you search the forums for it, this has been over and over a hundred times incase you feel I am misinforming you.
Good luck dude!

Bummer, but thank you for your response.
Another quick question, It's not a huge issue to me right now, I feel like I can live with it for another month maybe. I bought my phone in April I think, is it still possible to buy insurance on it this late? Like if I got the insurance, then waited another month after getting the insurance, tell them theres something messed up so they don't think that I was just trying to get a cheap fix. (which I am haha)
Because I'm thinking if I got the insurance (which I wanted to get initially but for whatever reason I didn't), it would be cheaper to give to AT&T rather than motorola.

I am not sure you can put insurance on a device that is over the 30 day limit. However it may be 60, eitherway you are screwed. It wouldnt hurt to call them and ask though. The insurance is like 5 or 7 bucks a month and in this case we didnt have to pay anythign out of pocket. Also, you may try a 3rd party insurance company like square trade, but that may or may not work.
When my g/f's did it, we just called AT&T and after troubleshooting, wiping, troubleshooting some more, wiping again, they gave up and sent us a phone next day'd.
The funny thing was explaining to the CS Rep how we can't login to motoblur since the keyboard's A/S/W/Q/E/1/2 keys didnt really work, and of course my g/f's email is her name [email protected]. At that point she flipped out on the AT&T person for taking us from a semi working phone, at least could answer calls and such to a total biffed phone stuck at the motoblur login. Another crappy thing about the whole ordeal, she started the conversation on a tuesday night at 1730 with CS Rep, that one lasted til 1830. At 1830, the CS Rep wanted to elevate to tier 2 "android specialist" (i laugh everytime I hear that), which was "busy" and didnt call back until 2200. That conversation lasted until 2230, when he finally gave up.
At the end of the whole thing, the phone was overnighted AND we got a $60 credit on our account for them totally biffin it up. Thanks tier 2 support! lulz.
In that case I might actually try to go that route haha. If not, I might as well pay to get it fixed if that's all I can do. I love my atrix and don't want to move on just yet.

Anyone ACTUALLY Warrantied an Unlocked/Re-Locked?

If anyone out there in XDA-land has actually warrantied an unlocked or re-locked phone (in store and/or via the 1-800 number), could you please chime in and post your experience (whether you did store or 800 and what happened).
I realize that it may still be too early to ask this question, because the true kicker is whether someone down the supply chain (in store, then in Verizon, then in HTC) noticed and charged back to your account; as there may not have been enough time for bills to generate after such a chain, but I would love to hear of actual experiences.
If possible, there is no need to report back on Amazon or Best Buy or Guy-On-The-Corner They have different policies. This is a Verizon Corporate inquiry. If anyone sent it back to Verizon, did Verizon ultimately charge you for a new Rezound. Thanks
(I realize there is another thread debating whether or not HTC shares with Verizon, and whether Verizon employees are trained to check. This is not that hypothetical inquiry; I am hoping that only people who ACTUALLY did the swap report in).
Thanks!
This is interesting to me. I'm stuck wanting the "normal", for lack of better words, root and s-off method from the community. I knew that the employees don't care about root as long as they can set it back to stock. That's what I heard from my friend that worked there. I don't know about the HTC unlock though.
I did it with my first rezound. (i baught them at bestbuy for their replacement plan) no questions asked. GIVE ME NEW PHONE, they gave, I was happy.
not that this helps right now, but i should be able to give you an idea in a few days. bought my rezound on the 9th and unlocked and flashed that night, data started not connecting at all on the 13th. called vzw tech support on the 17th telling them what was going on, no mention of whether it was unlocked from either side, got my warranty replacement today. gonna send back the old phone tomorrow.
I had the 'can't charge dead batteries issue' the other night. Went to store and replaced with new battery. No problems.

Well - You did come closest to answering out of all the other responses PLEASE let us know if you ever get billed for it (which can take months).
When I turned my Charge in to Best Buy for the upgrade plan, the dude actually SHOWED OFF to the other folks how modded that thing was, he was in awe. As much flashing I did on that thing, it should have melted. They don't care, or are not paid enough TO care. Never had a problem at the VZW store either, but those guys are usually idiots anyways.
Local best buy for me looked for a superuser app, didn't see it, then exchanged the phone. Had they looked at the bootloader they would have seen the relocked. Bunch of idiots...lol.

While Best Buy is not relevant (they probably have their own policies), that is kind of disturbing. It means they are looking.
Anyone actually do this with *VERIZON*, would love to hear if they ultimately charge you.
I know this is not exactly the same, but I exchanged my old Samsung Fascinate for a Droid Charge under warranty through Verizon. I restored the Fascinate but forgot to restore the kernel. It showed some hacked version under the system settings and was really obvious.
I sent it back and never heard anything about it...
i'm curious, if they do charge wouldn't that mean they should send me the phone that was broken back since in theory i would have purchased the second phone at full price?

YES! That is why I was hoping to hear of people's actual responses with Verizon. Not having much luck with the "actual" or "verizon" part of the inquiry, but it is probably still too early to really know. The phone hasn't been unlocked long enough for people to unlock, decide they need to warranty replace, exchange it with VERIZON, and then get another bill cycle or 2 or 3 to see if they were charged.
... but I keep hoping to hear from anyone who actually warrantied an unlocked phone back to a Verizon corporate store or Verizon 800. As time goes by, maybe we will learn

Please do. I suspect it will take months (has to get from Verizon store to headquarters as part of however often they ship, then Verizon has to batch all their warranty replacements back to HTC {if that's how they do it} however often they ship, then HTC has to notice {if they ever do} and push back {if they ever do}, and the Verizon has take the pushback and bill). I suspect that this can take months, at which point the question will be moot (because it will be as it will be), but it was a pipe dream of mine to see what actually happens, given the amount of guessing going on.
Good luck!
I don't see from a legal standpoint how they can do anything...soon as the phone is in their possession they are taking responsibility for it no? Therefore if it is not covered by HTC for some reason, it would be there fault.

There was a ridiculous number of acknowledgment clicks re voided warranty through the unlock process. I would consider this situation exactly like if you brought a phone to Verizon saying it won't work, and the somewhere down the line someone finds the water sensor tripped. The dude behind the counter at Verizon is not going to know at the time, but as the phone winds its way through the warranty replacement chain, someone will figure it out; and they probably will charge you for your replacement.
No one would be screaming 'illegal' in that case; and I believe the cases are identical.
Please note - I hope this is not the case; I have not unlocked my phone (despite desperately wanting to run Nils' ROM) because I dont have $650 to start again. BUT, I can easily see the parallel here.

I don't know how to feel about that either. When an employee of a cellphone provider looks at the available water marks and SAYS your phone is fine and has not received water damage and they are going to replace it for you...anything found afterwords is Verizon's own fault and they will have to deal with. I actually had apple try and pull that once. Had am iPhone where the wifi card was bad, tech at apple looked at their two water markers and said it was fine, that there was a definite issue and shed replace it. Got a call from apple saying the water marker was tripped and I'd have to pay for the replacement. I told them exactly what happened and they left me alone real quick.

... and there you go. That is the heart of my inquiry.
The initial person (counter at the store) will be irrelevant, and if people turn in Re-Locked phones, will they ultimately get charged by Verizon EXACTLY the way Apple proceeded with you.

T-Mobile & Asurion

Don't know if this is the correct forum or not, but I am certain I will be informed by somebody else should this be misplaced.
So.... I lost my phone last weekend and I subsequently filed a claim with Asurion, T-Mobile's insurance provider. However, I have a strange circumstance that did not require me to suspend my service. I was at the T-Mobile store getting a micro SIM card for use with another phone I was planning on flashing over to T-Mobile. Anyhow as it turns out, I could not get a micro SIM as it would render my service useless on my phone (unless of course I possessed a SIM card adapter, which I found existed after this incident). So the rep had to issue me a new SIM card.
After I all of that excitement I noticed I was running late picking-up my kids. So I rushed from the store, and I swear that I had all of my phones & SIM cards with me. However, upon returning home I could not locate my phone. I thought to myself that it must have fallen between the seats and that I would search for it after the kids leave. So I broke out the new SIM card and an old MyTouch 3G Slide to use during the interim. After the kids left I searched for my phone with no success. I even called the T-Mobile store and there too was informed they were not in possession of my Amaze.
I waited to file my claim anyways as I really believed my phone must be in my vehicle, especially as my truck is notorious for consuming cell phone, wallets, etc.! Sunday comes around and I still haven't found my Amaze. So I file a claim with Asurion, and I wait to hear back from them. Six hours later I get an e-mail response saying they have news about my claim. So I call the 866# and I am informed by a rep that my claim is denied because my line has been in use. I of course explain my story, and the rep claims to understand. They check with T-Mobile to see when the last use of my phone occurred and according to them it was the following day. This is odd, but my thought is that I had not used my phone the entire day prior to filing my claim thus the report of the last use of my phone.
After all is said and done, the rep at Asurion files another claim assuring me that this claim would not be rejected & that she would call me within 24 hours. I never heard from the rep so I called again only to be informed that my claim again is denied with no reason given. So again I tell the rep what happened, and again the rep says the understand, calls T-Mobile, and files another claim with all the same promises as before. Next day I get the same e-mail as I received prior which by now indicates to me that my claim is denied. This time when I call I decided to escalate the situation. Well, this only further confused the rep I spoke with as they also refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor while claiming they could solve the issue. I get placed on hold by this rep with the excuse that HE needed to contact T-Mobile. He comes back on the line, and right away starts to tell me that my line is insured not my phone! I of course already have the literature from Asurion pulled up. I very firmly explain to him that every single reason he has given me for not honoring my claim is complete BS.
This representative continued to hold his ground that my phone line is insured, that if they cannot detect the phone on the network the claim is no good and some other idiotic excuse that I rebutted. By now he can tell that I am not very satisfied with their tactics, nor his level of service. So he again places me on hold telling me that HE will speak with T-Mobile. Well... I got blind transferred to T-Mobile, and of course I am informed that they cannot process the insurance claim. I immediately ask to speak with a supervisor. So I get placed on hold, rep returns telling me that I need to wait and she asks me if she could place me on hold again, then she hangs-up on me. Great! An hour on the phone & I get nowhere.
So I decided to try the online support people. Which when I am chatting online sometimes with "customer support" I 100% feel that I am speaking with a chat-bot! This 'person' also tells me that they cannot do anything. However, he offers me phone upgrades on all 4 lines of service. So while I am waiting for this 'person' to type their next reply I began to search for an upgrade. Some upgrade it turns out to be as they are basically offering me to purchase phones at the full retail price. I let the rep know that this is such a bogus benefit and that I could purchase a phone at the full retail price anytime I wished. Enough of this; I'll just call T-Mobile one last time and inform them straight away that this is the last opportunity for them to get this right, and that after dealing with Asurion & their less than stellar service, I will not be calling them. This time I actually get a person that really understands the words coming from my mouth. He ends up filing the claim with Asurion for me, and after speaking to 10 people by now informs me that my claim will continue to be denied unless I suspend my service!
I had figured by now that no human is involved in the processing of claims. Looks like I am correct in my assessment. Sigh.... So again I get a notice this morning that my claim is ready and to call again, which is code for your claim is denied. Yup, my 5th claim is denied. So I am typing out this story of frustration while I await a reply to my 6th claim. A claim which I have finally adapted all of my responses for their automated system to understand.
I realize this is very long winded, but I appreciate your understanding of my frustration with what I now view as some sort of scheme. A scheme that is meant to bilk consumers out of their hard earned dollars, and never provide the service for which they have paid.
Am I the only person that has had this issue with Asurion/T-Mobile or any other carrier as it seams Asurion has the market cornered on providing Phone Replacement Insurance for every major carrier?!

sorry to hear..
This is why Ive NEVER gotten insurance on ANY phone i've ever owned (be it on t-mobile, or verizon, or sprint). Because of the fact I know they all insure through asurion and I know for a fact Asurion sucks balls. Ive heard and read so many horror stories about asurion...not to mention the replacement phones they send out are usually garbage. theyre usually refurbished phones..and by refurbished phones they clean the screen, make sure it turns on, and then call it good. the same phone that went in for signal problems will 99% come out with signal problems. Eff asurion in the a, seriously. dont ever get asurion insurance again. if you ever do get insurance on the phone make sure its carrier insurance, not insurance via 3rd party (aka asurion)
i hope everything works out well for you.
Update:
Just as I planned I received an email finally approving my claim! This is what happens when an f-ing computer decides what to do. There quite literally has been no human involvement with my claim. Yet these ya'hoo's talk about fraud & all this other crap.
I got news for you idiots: when a system is finally figured out by people, then it is ripe for being manipulated.
I do agree very much with the post above me though. Stay away from the insurance for more reasons then the fact that you will be ripped off by this company. My opinion is that you save the $8/month you would pay towards the insurance & save it specifically for a fund for your phone.
Another note: I have been reading a whole lot of posts about stolen or lost devices. I highly suggest installing some program such as Lookout. I am still checking on my phone every day to see if it has been turned back on/found by somebody.
Other security ideas to consider: encrypting the data on your phone & SD card, locking the phone, password protecting the SIM card and with ICS entering owner info that is displayed on the lock screen (there are still some honest persons out there, they just don't always think to call the carrier to let them know they found a phone).
About the above security suggestions... I know that people complain about how unlocking the phone takes too much time. My sister is the biggest complainer I know. I did her a favor by installing Lookout on her brand new Amaze. Anyways, the 3 seconds it takes to unlock your phone can save you the headache later.
Just saying!

I've been shelling out money to these folks for the past 3yrs now.
What I want to know is did you call and tell T-Mobile that you lost the phone? Because they should be able to IMEI block it. Then I would go as far as to get a police report and then send in the claim again. Once that they see your phone is IMEI blocked then it should qualify your claim. Don't quote me on this but its worth a shot.
Good Luck.
If they don't ever wanna cooperate, always file a complaint with the BBB. Works with me

Received replacement late yesterday. Upon plugging in for initial charge noticed that the usb connector is loose, and yes I am using the charger sent with the phone.
I have to say my loyalty to this underrated phone is waning, and the thought of jumping over to Samsung is worrisome. I cannot and will not use a phone that I cannot replace the battery or add memory! Sorry HTC, but the One line lacks a whole lot of thought.
If my Acer tablet had cellular capability, I would just use it. The A500 has the best battery life I've ever had in an electronic product, and is well designed & constructed. Only problem is the optics, they suck.

you have to realize you recieved a refurbished product, not a new one. furthemore it was refurbished by ASURION not HTC. so factor both of those in and be happy it even works. Asurion's QC is horrible most of the time it seems they make sure it turns on and then say ''okay its fine''

Yeah. I know now that this is a newly refurbished P.O.S.! I am not pleased at all. Just got off the phone with Asurion. They are sending me an One S. I really don't know what to do here. I want my Amaze. I'm not willing to get a product that I cannot change the battery out of or add memory to. If that were the case, I'd get an iPhone.
May send back the One S.

if you know its a refurbished phone, then dont be mad at HTC =)
I say give the OneS a good try. You may find that the removeable battery isnt all its cracked out to be. yeah no sd slot is a bummer but seriously give it a shot. Personally I would have asked for another amaze. =)
I cancelled my insurance a few days ago because of this post! I'll never send another penny to Asurion.

Blame people that scam for all of this non sense, by all means I don't fully agree with all of asurions practices but working for tmobile I get to see the side you guys dont. People call in for claims by using there friends phones to try and get better phones, people that "lost" it and we check there call history and someone they know is using it, etc..... its easy to be upset I would if I was in ops shoes but if you understand the system insurance is great to have, I always tell people if you lose your phone first things first file your claim get it started even if u don't complete it you can get the proper direction on what steps to do once its lost to get your service up and running till you get a new one.

Cant really say I have any complains with Asurion other than the T Mobile store I went to was out of Amazes so I got stuck with a SGS2. Although technacly two SGS2s ebcause the first one had a problem where when making a call nothing would be heard, so luckilly I was in the parking lot still and went back in and got a replacement. I tried talking to the lady into letting me pay a difference for a OneS but she said not :/ I love HTCs so its kind of a bummer to have a Samsung but I cant complain too much either.
Also off topic: Glad to see the Amaze finally got CM9 working, well GSM atleast

ONE S is probably the best phone i've ever used from T-Mboile. (after flashing a new rom with the 3dots menu removed) nice battery life, thin, slick, fast, feels great in my hand, awesome bright screen that's just the right size for one hand use. I like it much better than my S3, except the no microSD card slot part. non removable battery doesnt really matter if you have have the 3.99 warranty replacement.
I just cracked my my amaze screen the other day, even had the d30 case. It just landed on its face sadly.. but what kind of deductible does assurion charge ? I'm debating on just keeping the phone cause its just a hairline crack straight up the middle of the screen.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
They deductible is around 125-130$ also if you decide to go that route, PRAY or call a Tmo store ahead to see if they even have any Amaze's left. There were none at the store I filed my claim so I got stuck with a SGS2
Dang, I didn't even pay that much for the phone. I convinced tmobile to fork it over for 50... No way I'm paying twice as much for a refurb. Thanks though.

I cracked my screen a few weeks ago. I also had the D3O case but it didn't help at all. the deductible was $130 and Asurion set my replacement right away (called about 23:00 Saturday night and had new phone Tuesday morning). the one they sent me was a brand new phone in a sealed unopened box, so now I have a spare battery, battery cover and SIM card.
That makes it sound much better. New phone and an extra battery will be sweet. I'll go for it. Thanks

I would trade my Amaze for a One S in a heartbeat. Going to the S4 processor and be able to run Cyanogenmod. Heck, the One S has a much more stable CM10 than the Amaze does for CM9. I hate that I can't get a stable Cyanogenmod ROM on my phone.
