[Q] HTC HD2 Replacement touchscreen problem - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a HD2 with a broken touch screen, I ordered a replacement, put it in but it didn't work.
I soldered it and no connections touch eachother (tested with a multimeter).
do I have to close my HD2 completely before testing it out or something?

Yea of course please tell me you didn't try it with the screen of if so you may of screwed it up more

The device was off when I replaced it if that is what you mean By closing it I meant putting it back together, but I tried that with no positive results.
So any solutions?

buy a new one or buy selling the parts you have or keep them and buy a new one.

So what do you think the problem is?

Bump, does anybody have an idea on why it doesn't work? I really want to fix this phone so I can upgrade from a htc magic

Have you done this before? I mean replaceing the touch screen on a HD2? Did You follow all instructions?

HTC hero touch screen doesn't work periodically

Hi guys, my Hero encounter the touch screen doesn't work periodically, sometimes it became no response totally, after a few days ,it works well, I think this may be caused by the static electricity, Is there anyone have the same problem? do you guys have some methods to solve it ? Do I need to change a new touch screen?
well i droped mine today and now i have the same issue but the strange part is that i just had a replacement screen and there are no cracks or anything else, so you can't see that it felt out of my pocket.
Hello I had the same problem.
I installed several versions of Android and nbh files.
The problem occurred with versions nbh for Froy version of Android.
As I had saved the versions that were tested. I tried to install previous versions where I knew the touchscreen worked correctly. In my tests with this file to the touch screen work again: kaisimg-panel2-320-24-05-10.nbh
I hope that helped
when you say not working properly, what do you mean? the a and l letters on the keyboard dont register unless I press the screen really HARD. so that aria of the screen is unresponsive
what does one do with kaisimg-panel2-320-24-05-10.nbh?

I got the same problem!! whats the fix? screen replacement? cord lose? what what ?!?!?!!?
This has been discussed a milion times in the General forum.
Screen problems happen to a lot of Hero owners. Just send it to HTC fir a new screen. Don't forget to install an original ruu-rom on it.

I'm over the warranty. How can I fix it? does the screen need replacing? is the cord detached? whats the common issue of this happening? Whenever I touch my screen the notification bar drops down all the time.
i just purchased a old htc hero selling my spice mi300 i usualy get thr same problem in the lower part of thr screen may be i have to.just live with it as there is no warranty or insurance
I have had the same problem.
Mine is fixed within the warranty period.
But i have read something about failing Digitizers.
Maybe that's the problem?
See this topic:

You can buy them at Ebay just look for HTC Hero digitizer.
Below you find a link to the service manual:

If your phone is out of warranty
Maybe you can fix it by yourself

hd2 n00b questions

I am purchasing an hd2 that has a non-responsive touch screen (not cracked/broken) from someone off of craigslist. I'm willing to take a chance and hope i'm lucky enough that it's not a complete hardware issue 'cause I obviously won't have any warranty.
My question(s) are:
Can you navigate through the phone and within the apps itself using only the physical buttons?
If I try to replace a digitizer with the ones on ebay for 30-40, do these need soldering? Has anyone had any success trying these? I'm aware that may not completely resolve the issue.
Will t-mobile (my carrier) provide me with an unlock code?
If I flash it with android do all the features of the phone work? WiFi, sound, camera, etc?

As Samsamuel said no there is no navigation buttons on the HD2, you have to use the touch screen.

I have not checked out the digitizers you refered to on Ebay but I would suggest you buy a LCD digitizer assembly already together tbat requires no soldering. This will allow one much easier instalation and replace both major parts that have to work to solve your problem. So you should be assured you will fix the problem.

Yes if you are currently a T-Mobile costumer they will must likely give you the unlock code, but you have to contact them.

Yes on just about all NAND Andriod ROMs for the HD2 have everything functioning with only very minor things being buggy.

i find this kind of odd. most electronics used to be configured where if you couldn't access the primary input there was always a secondary option...kind of like how if your mouse wasnt working, you can still do everything with a keyboard. granted, this isn't in the same category but engineering has definitely fallen off in the way of profits as opposed to proper functionality these days.
i came across this piece of software called 'mymobilizer' which lets you control and see the device and its screen from a computer. i installed but i can't connect because it requires an authentication on the device (press ok to allow or cancel to deny) and i was hoping the home, windows, or call key would act as an enter but unfortunately no. that would have at least given me some kind of flexibility to at least play around with it in it's current state and i was so close yet so far...
are there any other softwares just like this?

^ here's an example of what i'm referring to.
i dont think (or hope) that it needs a new lens since it looks to be in good shape and the t-mobile US HD2s digitizers don't require soldering from what i've been reading so is it a matter of simply unplugging it from the ribbon or what have you and inserting/plugging the replacement back in?
are there any good guides that focus just on the screen/digitizer disassembly and replacement? I saw that one video on youtube but it's not really a great step by step tutorial.

i currently only have a 1gb sd card on me, is it possible to install android from a card with that little capacity? i was reading one where the minimum requirement was 4gb.
If you buy the one on craiglist I wouldn't worry about SD card size as with a dead screen you won't be doing much with it except for use as door wedge perhaps.
dead screens are normally a hardware issue stripping the HD2 is not the simplest plus eBay screen parts are cheap poor quality junk.
If buyining a used HD2 you need to buy a good one & preferably a revision moel with the yellow reset button.

Yeah I agree have traded functionality for profits to a certain extent. And I agree not having any kind of control with any external buttons is a drag, bit it is a all touch screen device. The link you posted shows a LCD and digitizer wich is what I was talking about and yes this kind is the solderless kind that just plugs into the mainboard. I personally have not done it but I have read about people that have and watch a video or two.
As far as a spacific video to watch I really don't have one to suggest but seach YouTube really good you should find something that will help you out.
Now on the SD card I would get atleast a 2GB to 4GB.
The link is just the digitizer.

will an i9000 screen work on a vibrant?

hey guys getting a vibrant with a cracked digitizer for my g/f. correct me if im wrong but it appears to be next to impossible to replace just the digitizer from what i read.... (please comment if you have done it) i see the i9000 parts are cheaper everywhere but the buttons are different. i wont be running a stock rom on it and i plan on adding a ffc so....
1. would it be physically possible to use the i9000 replacement screen on it?
2. would the buttons be a problem? not sure what the square one on the i9000 is (trackpad?) or where the home button is if there is one....
3. does anyone have a clue or am i the first to bring this up? i have searched my self silly!
4. digitizers are cheap should i just try to replace it? whos done it and what do you glue the new screen with? (i cant find any decent write ups)
i know the i9000 and vibrant have diff roms but im hopping that has to do with the radios etc. maybe i can edit the keyboard file or something to make it work.. but not sure about that pad thing...
i know this is alot of questions and i dont expect one answer. if anyone has any knowledge on any of this id really appreciate it and thanks in advance!!! id like to join the samsung crew as ive always had htc (since g1) but always secretly wanted a samsung too haha so what better excuse than to get the gf one

Sorry to tell you but the i9000 screen wont work at all. You will mess up your phone up big time if you start messing with the screen/digitizer as its one unit. Call samsung repair and that may be your best bet for a new screen replacement.

It's not possible.
Call Samsung, maybe you can get it replaced for free (or really cheap).
I'm guessing that you don't have a warranty with T-Mobile, because they cover this (my screen was damaged, and I got a replacement).
The 'pad thing' is actually a big iPhone style physical home key - it's plasticky and ugly, and the reason I got the Vibrant over the i9000. You definitely won't be able to use i9000 components on the Vibrant, the i9000 screen and digitizer are built to accommodate that button, not the Vibrant's four capacitive keys.
They have the same back, though, so you can use i9000 cases and battery doors just fine.

Well if I used the i9k parts I would swap housing LCD and digitizer all together so the button and everything would be there. I'm pretty sure it would physically go on but not sure if I can get the buttons to actually work. I know you can edit the keypad file as I've done it on my mytouch 4g but not sure if that's all I'd need to do or not :/ figured someone might have been in a situation that they tried it and couldn't hurt to ask. I have warrenty and insurance on my mytouch but I'm buying the broken vibrant out right so I'd think I could buy the parts and put them in myself cheaper than anyone would charge... I've repplaced the screens on several phones already so not a problem there. Guess that's what ill do.
Another thing Id consider is the vibrant 4g screen as it has the spot for the ffc unpainted already and everything else appears identicle but only place I see it for sale there's a min 2 per order >< has anyone ever successfully replaces just the digitizer? Its sold seporate for 35 and I read you need a new ribon as its almost impossible to pull LCD from digitizer without tearing the cable.

So is it just a strip of the screen?
If you really really wanna be able to get it unlocked, Download the correct version of clockwork mod for our phone one that's not touch, has to use the volume rockers and fresh install the rom, Or as a matter of fact, Just boot into whatever recovery you have and clear data/factoryreset, that'll get rid of your lock pin
Hello from me too!
I have a strip on my touch screen that doesn't work. It's right where the Search button and Install on Play Store is and Clear on the Phone notifications, too.
It had the stock rom, I have replaced the screen with the digitizer when it fell down. It worked after that. I had to unscrew the phone one more time because my LCD was touching the screen and the phone had gone mad. After that, and a couple of days later, I noticed that the strip didn't work anymore. Today I finally flashed a new rom (King Cobra 3d) and nothing's changed so I figured it might be a hardware problem...
What's your opinion?
Thank you!

Its the hardware. and your carrier should change it at no cost. (Sprint)

I've replaced my digitizer twice myself. I got a cheaper one the first time, and figure that's what I get for trying to go on the cheap. (I was out of warranty). Sorry to say it but it could be that again.

I think I don't have a warranty because I've changed it myself. It's my fault...
I think I'll buy a new one... I unscrewed it a while ago so I could see if sth had been misplaced or if the digitizer had scratches or sth like that.
I saw that the ribbon's top had been ripped off right where it bends on top of the LCD... Don't know if that's the problem...
p.s. I live in Greece. My carrier is Cosmote. We don't have Sprint here...
Yep, if the ribbon cable is ripped, that would be your problem. Don't go too cheap on your replacement. Good luck!

If i buy a new one from Amazon will it be allright? It costs around 10 pounds... The other one that i've changed and now it has a problem i've bought it for 60 euros from a local store here in Greece...

The last one I got from Amazon is the one I'm using now (about a month old), and spent $20 US on it, which was NOT the cheapest of them. Not knowing the exchange rate right off hand, would venture to say the one you're speaking of is not a "cheap" one. So go for it. Just take your time replacing it and be careful with ALL the ribbon cables. Good luck!

Htc one x+ cracked screen

Hi guys, as you can see i am new here
I have htc one x+ and it has cracked screen. I think only touch screen is cracked and LCD is not damaged. I want to know if i am able to change only touch screen, because i heard that its difficult to separate LCD and touch from each other.
Also i want to know if i can change it by one x screen, as long as i am unable to find any screen for x+
I have AT&T version but at the top it says HTC not AT&T, so i cant really understand what to do as long as its a lot of options available on ebay. (Currently i am outside of USA so dont advice me to take the phone for repair, best opinion for me will be if i replace the screen by myself)
hey, hope this might help, i have a euro model(uk version) so i am unsure what screen you need ie frame+lcd+digitizer(it will be either sony or sharp)
does mean you would need to open you phone(voiding any warranty)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793341
The same problem
I have the same problem and I don't know where i can buy a new one digitizer.
I found this replacement on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=331071120495
Does anyone knows if this digitizer works in the AT&T version? What did you do OP?
Im not sure where to get the parts but I should warn you to be very careful when replacing it. Its much easier to replace the entire assembly. When you do, make sure to be gentle. When I finally set the screen back in I accidentally pinched the ribbon and the LCD didn't work. Its very fragile! VERY!
Edit: is the at&t screen for the x+ the same as the at&t x?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using XDA Free mobile app
Hi guyz,
I had a cracked screen on my HTC One X+ with a cracked screen
Two things that can help
1) The screen and the digitizer (both) is acutally a one piece hardware. So both have to be replaced.
2) The One X's screen is compatible with the X+'s screen (I've got the one x's screen now)
I'm in India so cant help with places to buy parts from.....but an online (ebay) search might help.
