include iptables support in aosp roms? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just a quick question, are someone planning to include iptables support in any custom rom, so we can use DroidWall in our X10's??It's very usefull for those who haven't unlimited data plan.
Thank you

+1 : I second that

Even if you add iptables you cannot use it without enabling the netfilter in the kernal. If you cannot change the kernal (i mean if ASOP need the exact same kernal of SE) it is not possible . Correct me if I'm wrong.
It would be nice to have iptables so we can use transproxy and use wifi proxy.

I was aware of the netfilter issue, but I thought our fantastic cookers could do something about it, I was hoping this this tio be possible at least in the aosp 2.2 rom

netfilter for superboot kernel

Hi Guys,
after a lot of experiments with the various custom roms out there, I decided to settle with stock for now until the mods stabilize a bit more.
I applied modaco's EPE54B superboot+highmem and manually installed busybox for Titanium Backup. The only thing missing for me is Wireless Tethering.
Now to my question: Is CONFIG_NETFILTER=y really needed for WT, or could I load netfilter as a module. I'm asking because I don't want to go throug the hassles to build my own kernel with nf+hiighmem
If it has to be built into the kernel, does anyone know where I could find the .29+highmem source modaco used for his build?
Thanks very much,
Paul
seems like a kernel module should work fine...the only way to know for sure is to try.
is modprobe on the default system?
I was running superboot mostly stock with a setup similar to yours for a while, busybox and a few utils manually installed, manually updated EPE54B etc. Decided to flash modaco's 'insecure' rom and flash over the undervolted 2.6.33 kernel though. This has been working great, as I get full ADB support form the ramdisk of modaco's insecure, and all the benefits of himem, undervolting/battery life, speed, and tethering from the UV 2.6.33 kernel.
Not something your considering?
Thanks for your answers.
The .32 and .32 kernels are crashing for me regularly. Soft-Rebooting, that is.
Maybe it's because they all seem to be UV or OCed.
Also, I tried to keep my device as stock as possible. But I can't live without highmem
Modprobe seems to be available from busybox.
Also insmod.
I still would need the .29+highmem source for compiling the module, right?
Cause Paul from Modaco hasn't answered me yet
Best wishes,
Paul (sic )

TYVM - I will try it when I am back home.
If you can get it working can you post a tutoral on how to do it?
yes a tutorial would be awesome. I also want as stock a phone as I can get, but need (read: want) himem and wireless tether.

IPTABLES binary and modules

Did anyone managed to install iptables on a rooted X10?
What I read is,you need first to activate netfilter hooks in kernel, like cyanogenmod, native SE kernel hasn't activated yet,i think.
Waiting for Roms

So, netfilter is disabled?
Damn it...
I was hoping is enabled but the release doesn't have the binaries/modules...
Somebody here got samba working and i was hoping it was the same issue

[Q] USB/Wifi Tethering not working? (openOptimus build 2.202.1)

OpenOptimus is currently the best ROM i've tried so far on my LGP500, and I would like to stick with it, but USB & Wifi Tethering does not work!
When I try to activate USB or Wireless Tethering from Settings, It goes on and then right off again and I get a tiny "error" message..
I use tethering as my main internet connection on my pc, so this is a major problem.. Is there a workaround or a fix for this?
Is this a problem with the rom, kernel or perhaps the baseband update?
Will flashing another kernel cause problems with openOptimus?
same problem here, try to download open garden tether from market it work for me
Sent from my LG Optimus One P500 using XDA App
This worked somewhat ok, but the tethering fails to turn off properly and the phone freeze when I do so. The same case with other tethering apps from the market.
[EDIT]
Flashing the latest franco kernel fixed the issue with 3rd party tethering apps.. I am now able to turn tethering on and off with the "Open Garden Wifi Tether" app..
franco.Kernel.v1.1-29082011 (testing version)
What kernel are you using
Sent from my LG Optimus One P500 using XDA App
im using the default kernel in the 2.202.1 build of openoptimus
franco v1 ?
--- 2.6.35.14-franco.kernel-gingerbread+
is this a kernel problem or a rom bug=?
don't know if it's kernel or ROM problem, spend a few hour goggling for an answer
but couldn't find one myself
i re flash the v1-16082011 kernel and no problem with using the open garden
I'll try flashing the kernel version you're using then...
Can I use other kernel versions, or perhaps other kernels like the PaoloM70, without getting conflicts with the openOptimus v2 rom?
How to fix the built in acces point? The third party apps can only do ad hoc mode while the built in is infrastructure mode
Its a kernel problem flash paolo v6 kernel it will work

Wifi and USB tethering dosn't work with Official GIngerBread and its Derivatives like OpenOptimus,Aga bla bla with the Franco kernel.
it seems it works with the Paulo Kernel.
open Garden works fine, but when u turn it off it screws around. i used to use 2.3.3 v20g Romanian Firmware and yes ofc, after i use it (open garden) the Battery used to die like crazy. a Reboot Solves the Problem here.
i dont know for sure if it works with the Stock Kernel.
but if u compare Official GIngerbread and its derivatives to
CM7 or Andy's Phoenix
its totally Rubbish in all the ways.

try this and see if it works!!!

Miui 2.4.27 + siyahkernel 3. Where is the tun.ko module?

Hello,
I've got the phone set up as per the subject with the latest stable of siyahkernel, I just do not seem to be able to get to a suitable tun.ko module to use with the said kernel to let me take full advantage of my vpntunnel services.
OpenVPN client is already up and running on the phone but I understand that you need to have also tun.ko up to fully exploit the vpn.
Any help?

Why would he thank you for linking him to the wrong thread (GB kernel for an ICS ROM, good job) and providing no useful information?

netfilter for mini

Hi folks
ive been searching a lot. i still don't know if the stock kernel supports netfilter/iptables. but i can certainly say proxydroid doesn't work on my mini.
there is already a kernel module for x8/x10mini/pro named ax8netfilter which gives netfilter support to those devices. it would be very nice if a dev port it for mini/pro. is it possible???
nobody home???
You are not smart right, all kernels even stock have netfilter.
X8 had old linux kernel newest xperias have newer so no need for this module.
End of story.

What error you got?
Btw it works for me.
Sent from my WT19i using Tapatalk
i don't get any errors. i give it the needed info (ip, port etc) and it connects. the problem is that i cant open any web page after that. exactly the same thing happening on x10 mini with stock kernel.
Try to install orbot and then connect, if u have netfilter problem orbot will tell you,
If the connection done then you have something else wrong
all the stock kernels support netfilter by defult
Sent from my WT19i using XDA
thanx for the tip. orbots connects without any error. again i can't open any web page after it connects. exactly like proxydroid.
BTW now im trying those to apps on generic ICS 4.1.b.0.431
just wait for few days, stock ICS have in-built proxy configuration setting so there will be no use of proxydroid.
are you sure about that? proxy setting with all the configs proxydroid has? https socks auth?
hooooooooooooooooorrrrrrray problem solved finally
my problem was caused by a stupid thing named: Islamic Republic of Iran!!!
i updated to latest version. there is a "http-tunnel" mode which solved my problem.
