▌brainmaster´s Guide for Android and Android Builds for Acer NeoTouch▐ - neoTouch S200 ROM Development

First of all - I am not the creator of this Builds. All the credits are going to the guys who are compiling the needed stuff for our Acer (holo - for kernel for our Acer device, and many other guys from TG01 division, guys responsible for different Android builds and me - getting everything together).
I am only gathering them together and making it easy for you to install it on our Acer.
GUIDE:

In order to get Android to work properly on Acer you need a fast Micro SD Card at least Class 4. That is because Android runs from a SD Card, it's not ROM that you can flash. Also you need at least 1,5 GB of free space on your SD Card.
Many errors or problems on Android not booting on your device can be resolved if you format your Micro SD Card with the Panasonic SD Formater. Backup your files from the Micro SD Card, download the utility, run it and format your Card.
1. Download the Android Build zip file.
2. Unzip the file and copy the whole Android folder to your Micro SD Card. Remember - copy the WHOLE folder not the content of the folder.
3. Start the File Explorer and go to the Android folder on your SD Card. Start CLRCAD.exe, then start Haret.exe and click on the "Run" button.
4. Now Android is booting - it can take up to 15 minutes. DON'T touch anything until you see the Lockscreen.
5. Move the Lock to the right to unlock your device.
6. Play with Android.
HINTS:

Android is working from the SD Card. It takes 5 - 10 minutes for the system to work fluently. It is also good to reboot Android after first start.
You can hide the taskbar by sliding toward the taskbar with your finger. Sliding down from the taskbar opens the Notifications bar.
NOT WORKING: Everything except the Touchscreen and Graphics Acceleration. NO Sound, WI-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Phone. In the moment you can only play a little with the Android and customize it. With the time there will be more drivers added to the Android Builds.

The main difference is the Graphics Acceleration with Live Wallpapers and real Multilanguage support. There are also added apps and games.
The 75MB file is Android compiled for HTC Touch Diamond, the 240MB file is Android 2.2 Froyo compiled for HD2 that shares the same GPU as our Acer.

great news! think you !

Thx brainmaster, for this topic, hope will have many update in the future. You speak russian ?

eur 30 from me

I can't run HyperDroid, it says: Searching Kernel (custom) and it don't go on

I've tried the kernel from this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846777. And the good news is that it work with the acer, but TS have problems (calibration value must be recalculated). Why is good ? because TG01 and acer S200 have similar hardware, and the devs of this topic work hard to make android work on the toshiban, they already have 2 buttons that work, sound and vibration.

Hi guy.
For first thanks for Android for S200.
I've tried to launch like you said and it working.
But seems to me the touchscreen is not optimised for S200.
I don't really know if it's me or the compilation.
When you run Hatcher you can listen the connection (in order to have connection then Android start ?) but still not working.
Do you have any advices for starting in good base to this system ?
For me the first thing i'm looking is using Deezer application for my car, need to have french translation and connection working.
Can you help me to this ?

[HOWTO] Android on Startrek

I'm happy to announce that, thanks to the awesome work done by the wing-linux project, it is now possible to run Android on the Startrek. Well, kind of.
Limitations
As of now, functionality is pretty limited on this hardware. The telephony drivers do work, and they automatically pick up many carriers like AT&T, but the most important apps for placing phone calls (Dialer and Contacts) will crash if you try to run them. This is a known issue related to the phone's lack of a touch screen. Audio playback is unsupported, though I've found that the microphone works during phone calls (which I've placed using commands via SSH). The external LCD only displays white.
Interestingly, Android is about as responsive as Windows Mobile on the device. There is no option (yet) to install the OS permanently; Instead, wing-linux installs to an easily-removable file on your SD card (required).
Instructions
Before you begin, make sure you have about 300MB of free space on the microSD card. (wing-linux requires installing to the microSD at the moment).
UPDATE (Nov. 10 2009)
The new wing-linux 0.4 release includes Startrek support! You can skip the list of instructions below and just install wing-linux normally. See their site for more information.
Download wing-linux (site) and extract it to your computer.
Follow the normal instructions for installing wing-linux, pretending that your phone model is the HTC Elf instead of the Startrek for now.
[*]After wing-linux is installed, browse to your microSD card using your computer and open the folder named "linux".
[*]Download the patched version of zImage, attached to this post.
[*]Replace the "zImage" file in the "linux" folder with the patched version you just downloaded. (This adds support for the Startrek's keypad to Android.)
[*]Open the file named "default.txt" and change the first line, from "set MTYPE 2372" to "set MTYPE 2487". (This tells Android that we're using a Startrek.)
[*]Save everything, place the microSD back into the phone, and start wing-linux again.
[*]After waiting a few minutes, you should have a fully navigable Android desktop!
Button Layout
I have attached a handy button diagram to this post, but the basic ones you need to know are:
Android's "MENU" button is the Startrek's "Home" button.
Android's "Back" button is the Startrek's right softkey (above the Hangup button).

Yes, I mentioned that. This isn't a final or polished release; it's just to play around with.
Works pretty good! none of the letter keys seem to work but , i did get the on screen keyboard to come up once but now i don't know what i did to get it to come up. I don't know how to remove widgets from the screen once i add one. Also how do i turn it off and get back to windows? Do i just have to pull the battery? Great job though! i can't wait to see if it will get fully functional!

Don't worry, I've observed all of the same things. And yes, I've just been popping off the battery cover to reboot for now.

EDITED ... I understand !
Update: Now with less hackery!
The wing-linux project has released version 0.4, with Startrek support built-in. You no longer have to do the special steps outlined in the original post. Hooray!
Does the 0.4 update offer any more function than the last one? I'm downloading right now but, i thought i would ask.

Other than having Startrek support already included, it shouldn't be much different from 0.4pre. I think there is a file manager application, now.
Hi
I install the 0.4 version + startrek cab .
but when i active the icon in start menu , this massage appear :
cannot open script file \storage card\linux\default.txt
i explore this path with pc , and there is no file with this name .

of course it can't be done .
contents of " default.txt " is different .
apparently , we must make the " default.txt " with notepad . but what's it's contents ? maybe a path that guide haaret for booting kernel .
COntent of default.txt
set MTYPE 2487
set KERNEL "zImage"
set INITRD "initramfs.cpio.gz"

Above is the content of the file, though I would suggest you to reinstall the whole cab as I don't have this problem after installation.

Bingo !!!!!!!!
thanks . now it is installed !
booting is slow ( maybe for first time )
Glad it'd help you. Ya, booting is slow and you have to press red button (end call) when it loaded to a stage with the ANDROID, then you will only greet with the Android logo. Enjoy!
Hi everybody
so cool ! I wish full ability of android was accessible !!
more questions : can wing linux complete development of this project ?
I know some linux developers , can a linux expert remap keyboard or run other parts?
what about other packages like phone , bluetooth ? how we can have complete functionality of android on startrek?
can anybody answer?
MTYPE 2487 in default.txt
doesn't work with qtek 8500, must change to 2372.
With this change I can boot linux, but after setup, run the calibration utility, and startrek isn't a touchscreen device as you know. How can bypass this?

Good news
I would to try it out. Can you upload your android package here?
yes, nike users can use the package for the vogue. the problem for me was that nike could not wake up after sleeping because we have different key mapping than vogue or kaiser. how is ur battery life?
im on school right now.
when im home, ill upload a complete rip of my SD card.
what i've done is the following:
i downloaded the pack for the HTC kaiser/vogue etc.
then i used the default.txt from a android made for the htc niki.
the only thing i changed in there was change "Zimage" to "Zimage-monsha"
then i could just install the andoid on my sd card and run it.
i don't know about the battery life yet, i didn't test it very well yet.
it's pretty laggy though so it will need some very good improvements.
Did your data work? I also got eclaire runniung on nike on ext2 partition using the methods from the vogue forums, but I noticed some issues:
- No data
- Slow
- I Tried to patch the new 3d driver stuff into the kernel. Afterwards i had accellerated graphics without textures (live wallpapers). But i have the same issue on some combinations of older builds, kernels and rootfs.
I also tried other builds from ext2 (all without rootfs, no working data on any of them , but it seems like the old versions with rootfs work better (-> data works)
i did not test it anymore.
i was at school.
rightnow im at home, so ill make a rip of my sd card, this is not formatted in ext2 or something.
i just deleted all the data on the sd card, and i just installed it.
it will take a while to upload, cause its pretty big.
right now im going to upload the .rar file.
it is 115 MB big, so make sure your sd-card is bigger than 512 MB

i tryed with sleepmode on 0, and it just worken, also on 1 it just worked.
i do not know how to see if full sleep is working, but it could be also working on the HTC Touch-Dual *NIKI*
set pm.sleep_mode=4. Data don´t work. Data don´t work on Nike with more new Android OS like donuts(1.6) or eclair(2.1) only in olders like android 1.5. Nike handsets lacks of android developers. We have no luck like Polaris/Vogue/Kaiser/Diamond users
i know, but i edited the default.txt a lil, by changing the resolution, i had less lagg, but it does not show the whole screen :S
even when im using the resolution of the screen :X
if u set the sleepmode to 0, can u wake the device? i never been able to. could u post just your default.txt here? anyway, data is working for me.
Running
I tried this, i'ts running, here's my report:
1. I cannot make a call (incoming or outcome).
2. I cannot send the SMS
but the operators carries found..

yes it awakes then.
and i did not test it with sim yet, the first thing i wanted to do is a good fast stable android build.
i found one, only one problem:
you cannot install it on your niki, i have to take the data.img and system.img from a HTC Kaiser(which uses my dad)
i already got a rip, right now im going to test if that works.
then i will delete all settings in there, and upload it here, one thing; it is REALLY fast!!

Data don´t work on Nike with the more newest android builts. We lack developers
I noticed that data works on eclair and donut, but the connection drops after a (very) short time. Sometimes I was able to load one or two webpages after a fresh boot until the connection went down (20Key Nike, O2 Germany). I also got google sync once working for a few seconds (enough to fetch mail).
So it seems to be more a stability issue than a general lack of data connection.
Does anyone have developent experience with android? I am now compiling the eclair build with the latest libraries from the vogue andoid git tree, but if someone already knows were the data problem is or what it could be i could find a faster solution, any in the development would be great.

HTC HD2 Android - Stuck at green HTC-Logo

First: i used the search function and didnt get an answer
im also having this problem around 2 weeks...
im using this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692763
Omega v3.4
with the Radio-Rom
Radio 2.10.50.28_2
and as you may think, my handy stucks after the executes linux code on the green HTC Logo. No one could help me, so im asking for the pro's in this forum for some answers.
Is it may possible, that every 3.14 rom makes problems with android?
so, thanks
and i hope you could help me, solve this problem
greez
Monolize
Edit:
i switched to the chuckyrom, didtn know which version.... but it also didnt work
can u just send me an rom and an android-build, which just work
download one of the Andriod versions of Mdeejay. He has truely good working ROMS. EVO, Revolution, Desire and Desire HD (even with 720p camera fixed)
I just think you data.img is corrupted .. you can try to replace it .. i rather would go for another Adriod version. Trouble shooting for Andriod SD ports is a waste of time if you dont know were to search
i download always a new data.img when i change android
so i rather think, this isnt the problem
but the mdeejay builds.... i try it
EDIT:
im doin it right, or?
the data.img in the android folder and the rootfs from the android folder intro the root of the sdcard
EDIT2:
it also stucks at the bootscreen.... this time it is white and green
any1 know, which issue keeps me away from the lovely android @ hd2?
It also happens to me when i download android and exracted to my sd card it stuck or frozen in the htc logo for like an 1hr
I would delete the data.img and let Android build a new one. It should do it on its own the 1st time you boot it up, it will make your 1st boot take quite awhile, probly like 10 minutes, but it should boot up that way as long as you haven't changed or modified anything else within your /Android folder. It may just be because of the data.img that you included in the folder why it won't boot up for you
ok, i let android "build" a data.img by it self, but it also hangs at the bootlogo
and i didn't changed anything in the android folder, cuz i dont know what
i changend in the meanwhile the hspl from 2 to 3 back to 2
i changed several roms...... several android builds but nothing works :'(

Okay, It's the same as the one I have tested in the past.
Steps to do:
1) Download v. 4.3
Download 1GB data.img
2) Prepared your SD:
- Format your SD (select FAT32)
3) Create a folder on your SD named: "Android"
4) Open the "MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4.3_MDJ_S7.5HD.zip" archive with winzip/7zip Set the 10 files folders in your Android folder on your SD
Code:
- AndroidApps (folder)
- media (folder)
- zImage
- initrd.gz
- rootfs.img
- startup.txt
- system.ext2
- CLRCAD.exe
- haret.exe
- ts-calibration
5) Open the "data.zip" archive with winzip/7zip Set the data.img file in your Android folder on your SD
(You don't need to have a other file/folder on your SD except the one I mentioned.)
6) insert your SD into your device
7) Navigate with your device to your SD/Android folder; press on CLRCAD.exe and than on haret.exe
The first boot up can take some time (about 15min) but after that it must works well.

When i was installing android on mine HD2 all i needed was to UPDATE MY RADIO to 2.15 ! and it passed the green logo just fine! I really doubt it has anything to do with sd card...
ok i followed the steps indicatet above AND flashed Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14

Fore the moment out of Ideas.
- Radio is correct
- Rom; I don't see the problem
- Steps are follow like I mentioned
Maybe SD, (but you tested also on a otter SD. No?)
This worked for me.
I had the same issue for about a day, and after research of stuck on green HTC Logo with no help, and thousands of post later I came acroos an article regarding EncFiltLog.menc. Do not format your SD card with MAC or windows PC, but rather the secret is to format your SD card with your winmo phone by going to "settings" | "format SD card". It will create an exec file "EncFiltLog.menc" This file is, I guess, a partition index??? The file "EncFiltLog.menc" is hidden in windows mobile 6.x but is visible when you mount your SD card to your PC. Do not delete this file!!!!
After that just drop your android folder and it will boot up in less than 3 mins. After that, u may add all your other files. I use a 16GB card with Android and all my music and stuff with no problems. Hope this helps you.
Seriously man, you're a life saver. This has been kicking my butt for two days now.

1.Flash HSPL (Search forum for DL)
2.Upgrade Radio (Ive used 2.12.50.02_2 for ages works great -search forum for DL again)
3.then format SD Card (use your WinMo again to do this - app is in there somewhere)
4.Download an Android Build (Try darkstones SuperRAM build v1.5 - really good!)
5.Unzip Android Files and put into SD card (Sync phone to PC and drop files into SD)
-a. Press CLRCAD (use Windows Mobile File Explorer to Nav to android folder on SD card)
-b. Press Haret (Same process as CLRCAD)
Android will Boot and congrats -
(IMHO dont play with custom ROMS Windows Mobile use stock WWE or whatever - Stick to Android especially when NAND is around the corner..if your going to Windows wait for WP7 - IMHO)
check your software version in case you need to update..few apps to start you off
cookies home tab2 and cht editor
bsb tweaks
open market
again like previous op, do a search as these questions have been asked many times
All .cab files have to be coped to your memory card and run from there. Cab files cannot be unzipped and run from your computer.
Lots of fun ahead of you. Welcome.

[Q] Trying to find out how to run Android on Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2

I'm having quite a hard time finding the correct instructions. I'm trying to run Android on Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2. I did manage to run Android 2.2 from SD card, but it was very slow and sluggish. I was wondering if there's an option to run a more advanced Android version, like Ice Cream Sandwich, also from SD card as dual boot option.
Any suggestions or help out there?
Thanks in advance!

Gingerbread was the last version created for the TP2.
The experience of the SD card version relys heavly upon the sd card you run it from.
Read this thread for more SD card/OS requirements info.
Here are the basic instruction for loading a NAND version of android.
I run GB0X for my daily, and while it is not perfect I am over all happy with it.

Thanks, wizardknight.
Problem is, I'm not familiar with many of the quoted texts, which only adds to my confusion. The second link you provided is totally Chinese to me. The last link I'm not exactly sure if that is the Gingerbread you mentioned. And it also seems that it involves flashing the phone, which I didn't really want to do. I want to dual boot from SD card, so I can revert to Windows Mobile if something goes wrong...

First, if FroYo is slow what makes you think ICS will be fast? lol.
See this thread for a newer version of XDAndroid, based on Gingerbread.
That's the newest and probably the most stable version you can run from the SD card. As was stated, performance is heavily dependent on the SD card itself - and higher class != higher performance here. Operating Systems need high random read/write performance, which is not what classed cards are measuring for speed...
Regardless, NAND runs a bit better IMHO. If you still want WinMo, you'll have to deal with the slowness of running it off the SD card - although to be honest there's not a huge bottleneck by running it on the card.

As I'm still new to Android, you can't expect too much from me... I just assumed that if FroYo is sluggish, a newer version could probably be faster. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. I guess it indeed also depends on RAM, ROM, and who knows what else.
Anyway, I downloaded your latest link, copied the unzipped files to the root of my SD card (unfortunately I wasn't aware of the fact that higher classes will perform better, so I got a class 2 card last week). As per the instructions, I copied all .csv files from the \Windows directory to the same root of the SD card. I also copied the RHOD400 startup .txt file (which as I assume is the one for my HTC Touch Pro 2). When I then try to run the HARET.exe, the phone crashes and simply reboots back in WinMo...
Am I missing something?
Thanks!

the recommended cards are the lower class Sandisk ones class 2 should be good. Higher Class cards are not good for running an OS from. it is also recomended that you format the SD with the "HP Tool" http://www.eocfiles.com/bdc86eb1ed2989c30dcd1902e84939ae/bootdisks/SP27608.exe before you put GBX0C on it. I also have a sprint TP2 and have had problems with 16GB SD cards had to use an 8GB.

This is exactly what worked for me. have you set win mo to airplane mode before starting HARET? it is recomended round here but did not produce a reboot when I did not do it.

First, re-read my post - I said higher class != better performance - as in does NOT equal.
Also, as was previously stated - it sounds like you did everything correctly. Do you have a funky WinMo ROM? I know some ROM's 'fake' what type of device it is, and this doesn't play with HaRET well - because HaRET actually believes what WinMo is telling it... I can't remember the ROM's off hand that do this, but the jist is they try to fake as if the device is the Leo aka HD2... which it obviously is not...
The only other thing I can think of is did you reuse anything? Literally anything, from FroYo? Data.img, anything? Please don't reuse a single file. Start fresh with GBX0C, including a new startup.txt.
Thanks all! So I formatted my SD card again with the HP tool, copied back all files from the zipped folder, copied over the csv files from \Windows and tried to run HaRET again. Sadly, same story. First the progress bar comes up with "Loading Linux", but around halfway it crashes, and the phone boots up in WinMo again.
The ROM itself is stock from Sprint, I didn't change anything on that. And with FroYo I used HARET as well, and there it worked fine. Except no ringtones (!!!) and no bluetooth (!!!). The other difference is that with FroYo I did not get instructions to copy over csv files. Could that be the cause?
I definitely didn't copy over any FroYo files to this one...
Thanks!

FroYo doesn't require the CSV's.
You're not reusing any files? Nothing is being reused at all?
You have a RHOD400?
Have you tried different SD cards?
It's a brand new Sandisk 8 gb class 2 micro sd, never used before. Downloaded the original files from the provided link. I think maybe to use the provided csv files instead of my own...

Do you have WinMo overclocked with WiMoSpeed or something of the like? Haret will crash if you are using something other than the 528MHz stock speed.

I managed to find a friend, borrowed his 8 GB Class 4 card, formatted with HP tool, copied all files, including csv. Same crash with his card...
I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2. According to my research, and to the sticker in back of battery, it should be the RHOD400.

Not on the battery, under the battery on the phone itself, yes? Then yes, you have a RHOD400. Especially if it's 'Sprint' branded...
Ok, do this. First, run HaRET.exe with NO startup.txt. You can copy HaRET.exe to another location (root of SD, etc) - or rename your startup.txt to startup.bak or something. Then run HaRET.exe and tell us what you see in the box.
Next, perhaps try EVERYTHING from GBX0C except for the startup.txt. Still fails? Try the HaRET.exe and startup.txt from FRX07. Let us know.
So here's my latest update:
I tried removing the startup.txt file, crashed. Tried to run the HaRET.exe file on its own, crashed. Tried to use the startup.txt from FRX06 (which is different from the GBX0C one, I checked). Crashed.
Finally tried to use the HaRET.exe from FRX06, and now it works! Runs Android 2.3.7!
I guess for now the issue is solved. Will have to continue testing. BT and ringtones didn't work with FRX06. Should it work now?
By the way, here's a screenshot of what happened when I didn't have the startup.txt.

When mixing and matching files there is no way to know what will work. You will just have to post your results.

Thanks. Just checked bluetooth. Sadly, it doesn't work. Takes about 10-15 seconds when I check the turn on box, but then it remains off... Wondering if there's a fix for that. Ringtones are fortunately working.
But I have another issue so far. While outgoing SMS messages seem to work fine, I don't get the incoming messages. Any ideas?

Machine Type Leo - Exactly what I said earlier. Your WinMo ROM is trying to fake like you have an HD2 not a TP2... That's the whole reason HaRET.exe doesn't work. Your ROM is lying.

Text messaging should work fine. With you mixing and matching so much, and having god knows what for a WinMo ROM... who knows what's wrong. Did you boot Android with WinMo in airplane mode?
