[Q] Stock Android OS - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I get a copy of stock Andriod (as available on the Nexus one) installed to my Vibrant, thereby removing Samsung completely from my experience 'cept hardware?
If I can/can't, what would be the benefits/limitations?
Thanks

there is a beta rom for i9000 that works on the vibrant, but cyanogenmod team is having a hard time getting cm6 onto the vibrant...basically means yes stock android is possible, but buggy at the moment. with the release of 2.3 gingerbread,i can see a pretty quick port to our phones as the hardware is almost the same.

look at the other thread of cyanogenmod 7 development for Samsung Galaxy 5 device)
Since I'm a developer of the Cyanogen port for this phone, let me answer:
Until the major bugs are fixed, we recommend you use Froyo. However, you will probably enjoy testing Cyanogen 7 for a day or so, if you can forgive the bugs.

I have updated my phone to Foyo 2.2 from Samfirmware. In kies I did not see update. I also contact Samsung service center. In India there is no official update.
I used I5503DXJP8 from Samfirmaware.com

In my current ROM - Indic font rendering is not working properly. I replaced DroidSansFallback.ttf in font folder. It is having right font now, however Conjuncts are not working. Any idea about that..
Also is it taken care in Cyanogen 7
CyanogenMod
I'm using the subpsyke's CyanogenMod and it's really good. A little slow but whatever
I recommend CyanogenMod 7.1 hotfix 1.4 .. is f***ing stable and works fast....I like this very much....ADW Launcher is incredible.I like that the menu was changed from that page format to grid...I got a lot of apps and games and they works fine.
Cyangen mod
i use Cyanogen Mod 7,1, and has overclocked my phone to 768mhz.
Its a new phone, me like it now.
I would definitly choose Cyanogen over original rom.

How do ROMs work? (n00b question, I know)

Ok...I am really REALLY new to all of this. IF you put a custom Honeycomb ROM (CM7 is Honeycomb right?) onto a tablet, will it then run apps that are designed for Honeycomb tablets?

Cm7 is 2.3.7 gingerbread and apps working anyway.
Most.
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
The ROM is the same android OS but customized regardless of the android version (honeycomb, gingerbread, etc).
Different ROMs could have the same Android version. Major ROMs like CM are updated by their Developers when a new android OS is available.
Apps work mostly on any ROM, unless a certain app doesn't work on a certain Android OS version.
I hope I could answer your question.

Sort of....I guess I should break it down a little. There is a Words With Friends App that is made specifically for Honeycomb and because of that I can't even put it on my tablet which runs Froyo (parsing error). If I install a custom ROM or ported ROM like CM9, will it allow me to be able to install it?
CM9 is Ice Cream Sandwich I believe... It might run your app.
Go to the app page on the market and see if anyone is complaining about it not working with ICS... If not, you're good to go.
CM8 was supposed to be Honeycomb, but didn't happen because Google didn't release the source code for Honeycomb. If you find a Honeycomb ROM specific for your tablet, then that answers your question. Otherwise you might have to wait till an ICS ROM is developed for your tablet.

[Q] Samsung Dive On Non-Stock ROM???

hey guys, this may be getting into the realm of a "stupid question" but I'm wondering if there's any way to get the samsung dive service working on a custom rom. I know the few roms that I tried that were based on touchwiz already had it activated and working. What I'm thinking about is the other AOSP based roms that are almost plain jane jelly bean (4.1.1 or 4.1.2).
is there an apk or some update.zip I can install and get that option back, not that I really ever used it but still, it would be nice

Also looking for. Just updated my S2 to JB 4.1.2 and Samsungdive is gone
In order for non-stock ROMs to work with Samsungdive (which I am very found of, BTW), there are 2 requirements:
1) It must be based on a stock ROM
2) the samsung framework must be kept in the ROM along with a few other samsung components that make the link between the device and the SamsungDive servers
Unfortunatly SamsungDive is heavily dependant on the Samsung framework, so if either one of the above is not true, it isn`t gonna work.
Forget about using it on AOSP, AOKP, MIUI, etc, because they don`t have the Samsung Framework (obviously).

Huh... you want a rom built by samsung but that has absolutly nothing samsung made in it? Not sure how's that even possible
There's only 2 ways to go, from what i understand:
- for absolutly nothing related with samsung your best bet is any rom compiled (and modded) from google sources like CM10, aokp, slimbean, etc
or
- any samsung based rom with those aroma setups that allow for the removal of just about anything before installing. In this sense you'll be good with just about any rom you pick since all seem to have it But you'll still have samsung stuff in it since they built it, not sure if there's how to go round that

[Q] galaxy tab 10.1 wifi gt-p7510 from that can handle microsoft onenote?

Title spelling mistake: From => Rom
Hi, So I managed to change my tablet from android 3.2 to 4.0.4, however Onenote can be used only on android 4.1 or higher...
Any chance to use onenote on my tablet (with a different rom? which one?)?
We use Onenote in our lab and I don't want to buy a new tablet Because of it.
Yes, I know, Microsoft is the devil, however I really need to use this program (and I really don't want to use the Microsoft online option which will probably will be horrible on a tablet)
Your help will be very appreciate it!
Thanks,
Tom.

It works with Nameless Rom ( 11-13-2014 )
I would think it would work with most of the newer roms, but if stability is what you are looking for. You might try a jellybean rom or one of the stable 4.3 roms. Just remember that those older roms are most likely not being supported anymore.
This will require your tab to rooted. On a side note. Nameless Rom has been really stable on my device ( 4.4 )
