The update.pkg is the actual rom and flashes via the first recovery screen (option 2 then it installs) after you've flashed the stock.img.
Clockworkmod (option 2 then black screen with green writing) is for update.zip which are update files for custom roms (steves 2.2) for that you flash clockworkrecovery.img.
You will also need to downgrade the baseband back to 1.1.1 version.
Hope it makes more sense now?

Hi, i am unable to find the stock image to help install the dell 2.2 rom.
The ones i tried are give a blank screen when i select update from SD (option 2) hence the problem. Searched a lot and there are too many image files saying stock image but all give the same problem, one gave a fota mismatch.
The PDF put together by one of the members was very helpful updating.
Thanks for your help on this.

If I were you, I would...
Downgrade the baseband
Then just flash the dell 2.2 (factory reset before loading)

Need help with how to do that
Please let me know how to go about that.
Also wanted to have the stock recovery to cover any warranty related issues.

Glad you got it sorted... the stockrecovery.img is for flashing purposes only, doesn't affect warrenty. There is a thread somewhere on modaco you might want to bookmark just in case, restoring streak to factory condition to send back sort of wording.

Yes am happy it got sorted out..files are on STEVE'S WEBSITE too

Phone messed up badly and/or bricked. Need HELP please.

First of all, I am on a MAC and have an 00 baseband Streak and updated it to a 21 baseband and 2.1 Eclair following the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754418
Everything worked fine up until the end where after the final reboot it got stuck on the Dell logo. Ok, no problem I used the instructions in "How to unbrick your streak *worked for me*":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754448
As instructed I substituted the 2.1 Eclair pkg for the stock and it flashed perfectly, no issues and booted into 2.1. At this point everything pretty much worked fine.
... UNTIL I decided to try an root it to get rid of the O2 Splash Screen. Universal Androot did not work for me previously so I went with the NExus One Superboot method which worked in the past. That's where it all went to hell and the Dell boot logo came up and the unit just sat there.
I have tried re-doing it, from all the steps listed, but either get a black screen in the recovery phase (after choosing update for sdcard/update.zip) or the Dell logo on boot. I have also tried AdamG's 'rooted eclair build [6841]' img but it also just comes back with the Dell logo (listed below).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753699
... NOW, the only thing that seems to work is clockworkrecovery using AdamG's updated 2.5.0.1 Dell Streak (original or alt img) (listed below) and the 4399-update-streak-stock-rooted-signed.zip file renamed to update.zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754563
Every time I put an Update.pkg file on my sdcard and try to update using recovery it gives me a black screen in the recovery process. Renaming it to update.zip just gives me an error when I try to update in recovery mode. I just cannot seem to find a stock recovery ROM that will update using a .pkg file (either stock or 2.1) without giving me a black screen.
Any help/ideas/prayers would be greatly appreciated as I'd hate to think that I now have an $800 paper weight.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

It's definitely worth a shot for everyone with this issue to try, although it did not work for me.
FIXED
Thanks to marra2 who provided a link to a 1.6 rev.4399 NANDROID backup image I am now up and running. I used it to get my Streak operational then did the update to 2.1 Eclair and all is well.

Clockworkmod broke my recovery, any suggestions?

SOLVED it myself - read below:
The super quick version:
During an attempted downgrade from 02 2.1 6941 (it was buggy as hell) back to ATT 1.6, I tried a method someone posted involving clockwork 1.8.1.7. Unfortunately, clockwork can only burn .zip clockwork formatted roms (you cannot simply rename a pkg a zip). All attempts to switch back to any other recovery program simply resulted in a black screen after selecting update - many recovery roms were tried. So I was stuck with no way to even try to burn a regular pkg rom and a broken clockwork (1.8.1.7 "works" but with errors).
TLDR: Black screen after "press camera button to update" on all recoveries except clockwork 1.8.1.7 on 02 1.6 4399.
Solution:
Installed clockwork formatted rooted 4399
Installed older recovery rom I found
I can provide links to these later. I don't have them on me at the moment.
If anyone has any idea how to solve FOTA name mismatch, or even wtf it means, let me know.

The Streak community seems to be pretty small at this time. Until we have a bigger user base we are all kind of breaking new ground. People might not have had the same experiences as others, such as yourself, so maybe you could share your story and help someone in the future.

I was busy raging at the time.
I am *still* stuck on o2's OS (but 1.6 which works fine instead of the seriously bugged 2.1, which worked "ok" at first and got so buggy that it wouldn't allow me to answer incoming calls) but at least my recovery is no longer broken.
I can't swap back to ATT though due to a "FOTA name mismatch", whatever the hell that is.
The black screen recovery error seems to be caused by the ROM itself. Certain recoveries simply do not work on certain builds. It seems as though pretty much all of them failed with the build I had. However, I found an older recovery (smaller than the rest at 2.7mb) and used that along with a rooted ZIP format (clockwork) version of 4399.
It was really just about finding the right files and the right combination.
I hope I can upgrade to the ATT froyo when it gets here without issue. For now, I am staying with what works.
Download the attached recovery, flash it and you should be able to update any official rom.

**I looked through my recovery roms and I had already tried THAT EXACT ROM, so perhaps stop making assumptions, eh?**
The only recovery that worked was the 2.7mb one. I tried many others. They all resulted in a blank/black screen after selection.
The files I used to fix the issue are linked below.
The first is a zip/clockwork version of O2's 4399 build which clockwork can burn. The second is the stock 4399 recovery (2.7mb).
4399-update-streak-stock-rooted-signed-clockwork.zip - 80.1 Mb
recovery.stock4399.img - 2.7 Mb
*This fixed the black screen on all recovery roms except clockwork 1.8.1.7 issue. It won't do a thing for FOTA mismatch.

Bricked Streak on 2.1 -> 1.6 O2 downgrade

I was successful at getting it to 2.1 from 2.2.
However, i had issues getting it to the O2 1.6 rom, i ended up using clockwork and the .zip rom of 1.6 and it flashed successfully. However, upon boot i was stuck at the dell screen.
After this i tried all recovery images to get back to 2.1 or a workiing 1.6 install with no avail.
Now im stuck with out being able to do anything but flash recovery images, but cant install a update file because it isnt recognizing my SD card after removing it for some reason.... i tried multiple cards with no luck either.
Oh and to be clear, I am currently on the Build 4399 (rooted, intended for O2 devices) rom with the corresponding clockwork recovery installed. Can not access my SD card now tho.
This just happened to me! Toto modaco and download stock recovery Tom and flash it with fastboot and then you will be able to do why you want

You need the modded stock recovery

I used this to downgrade before a warranty repair, worked for me
Which 1.6 build is this used for, O2 1.6 or US 1.6 6601 build?

This recovery image is to used to get you from O2 2.1 build 8105 to O2 1.6 build 4399. It worked for me after several days trying various guides and suggestions on other threads and sites.
I used this recovery image to Flash ROM Streak_104_4399_21.pkg which can be found on other threads.

That modded recovery bricked my streak I'm tryin to get back to 1.6 everytime i run this recovery after downgrading to 2.1 from steves 2.2, I have tried several recoveries and nothing seems to work so stuck on 2.1 atm.
(oh btw I used QDL streakfash to unbrick I dunno if that helps anything.)
It may not be relevant, but I had huge instability with my ROMs for a while, random hard resets, force closes, ROMs not taking properly etc, failed flashes even with 1.6 etc.
Turned out I had one of the bad batches of Streaks with a bad internal MicroSD card. I sent it back to Dell, they replaced the card, and all was well again. Perfect stability etc.
You can confirm this on the diagnostics menu.

[Q] Flashing from Froyo to GB

Ok, so I haven't picked up my Streak in about 2 years since I got onto Sprint. I'm in the UK for a couple of weeks so needed to come back since it's GSM. I searched but didn't see a guide on how to flash from a Froyo ROM (Streakdroid 1.9.0) to one of the newer GB ROMs (I'm thinking Longhorn). My baseband is GAUSB1A131800-EU. I don't know what version of Streakmod recovery I'm on. I don't need a detailed guide on how to install Streakmod or the ROM. Just would appreciate if someone could tell me if there is a certain thing I need to do first (like update to the latest Streakmod) and if there are any dependencies between things like matching up a certain baseband with the ROM. Thanks!
I think I'm on CWM so I guess I have to go to Streakmod. Do I need to install stock recovery and/or ROM first? I have a vague recollection that I used to do something like that to update the baseband. I just can't remember because my Galaxy S2 you can independently flash modems and ROMs and of course, I haven't gone between Android versions as it's always been GB. Thanks!

What do you mean? Are you not able to connect with Fastboot? Is your cable /port broken so it won't connect at all? Anyway, here's what I suggest. First you need to install Fastboot. Search for the thread ADB and Fastboot and download the zip. I unzipped it to my C root directory to make things easy. Then search for the thread Dell Streak5/Flashing Guide. That has all the instructions to install Fastboot, connect with Fastboot. I'm assuming you found the thread with StreakMod so follow those instructions to then install it. If you don't know how to use Fastboot, search for the thread Dell Streak the Complete Guide. The guide is dated in terms of the files it references but the instructions on how to use Fastboot are still accurate. Just replace where it talks about Clockworkmod with StreakMod. Good luck.
Since I already wrote all this, I guess I'll add what I did in case it helps someone. Moving from Froyo to GB requires updating the baseband. To do that, I installed the stock 407 recovery and then stock 407 ROM. Then I installed StreakMod then flash the GB ROM of your choice. I chose Longhorn 2.8. Only had it for about a day but seems to work fine. No issues with reboots. Can't comment on speed or battery life since I haven't used the Streak in like a year so I have no reference.

[Q] HEEEEELP!!! DELL streak Update (stuck on DELL logo)

My dell streak just went off a couple of days ago and got stuck on the dell logo when it restarted. Its been like that ever since. i tried factory reset a number of times but it still wouldn't work and the phone "passes" the sd/sim test. I've searched for solutions on the internet for a while now and NOTHING... i found out i could actually get it to work if i flashed a custom recovery img and matching ROM but... i cant use flashboot cos my USBport no longer works, although I can get into flashboot. And i also tried updating the ROM with a pkg i downloaded off the internet but i get a blank black screen when i choose the "update via sd card" option. Was just wondering if there was a way i could still flash a stock/custom img and ROM via the "update via sd card option" in recovery. (my phonez unrooted and its got a stock ROM atm). PLEASE HELLLPPPPPP!!!! (current OS version= GAUSB1A111231)
Change the size of the font used in your post. We can read perfectly well here.
You currently are running Android 1.6 and can install a 1.6 ROM to fix your bootloop, but upgrading will not be possible unless you fix the connector port. This is because the recovery and the ROM must have matching regions. To change the recovery requires fastboot, thus no port, no upgrade.
thanks but....

Similar answer to the OP. Get your connector port fixed or replaced if you expect to resurrect your Streak. You have a stock recovery as well as a really old version of Android according to the baseband. Custom ROMs cannot be installed using a stock recovery.
