[DEV] Rush to be Ginger... - Optimus One, P500, V General

Posting for some feedback. Already there are ways to get the Gingerbread keyboard running on 2.2. Now a moddified gingerbread launcher has been made for froyo...
I am working on porting Gingerbread to our hardware... but I am more interested in the internal things... new drivers, function calls, ect...
Working that out might take a bit... but by this weekend (maybe sooner with some help) a sort of Gingerbread Lite, or Froyo 2.25 could be done, but with just the cosmetics pretty much...
What would you the users rather have? 2.3 Framework, or Froyo with the frontend of ginger?

Yea, what I'd want are 2.3 APIs.
Who cares about the looks or launcher.

+1, i'm really interested in seeing what Joshua Topolsky calls "Blazing Fast", as well as the "Hot Wax Treatment"
=D

Black Statusbar plz

Hell yea. +1 to black status bar! XD

+1 to APIs. I couldn't care less about the appearance (although....), I'm more on performance.

"Blazingly Fast" On 1GHz Hummingbird.... Froyo is no slouch on those either. Everything I read from Google's documentation, and reviews seem to point to it just being more streamlined in general anyway. Poop, who needs a reason, I just want it on my phone because LG said no.
Thanks for the input.
Time to rest mind. Will be rolling up sleeves and getting digitally dirty tomorrow (yay off days!)

Don't get me wrong about the "Blazing Fast" *thing*, i know that Nexus S is hardware wise the top of the whole android line, but i'm really curious to se gingerbread's new internal work/performance.
But hell yeah, i love this way of thinking (as i think this way too):

Same here. I just left my Hero for an Optimus S. The main thing I miss is CM6 especially the drop down power widgets menu on the notifications bar. I hope a lot of people start to get this phone so we get some more dev's over here to help build some sweet roms etc.
Maybe when they start building to CM7 they can include the Optimus S, that would be awesome!

Perhaps the video, bluetooth and camera drivers can be ported over to our AOSP ROMs (jt's and kaos's) so camcorder, bluetooth, and video playback functions will work.

Actually, every Galaxy S *except* the Fascinate is pretty far along in development. Working AOSP-base Gingerbread ROMS and everything. And the i9000 has Touchwiz Gingerbread.
Given that Samsung has already released Froyo for our exact hardware, the Fascinate thing is clearly a Verizon issue at this point. Whether it's to sell the Charge (maybe, but AT&T didn't block the Captivate for the Infuse) or, more likely, Bing BS, who knows.

All the Galaxy S are relatively similar, so we can work from other Galaxy's sources. After all, they are the same family.
It just sucks that we don't have our "own" sources.

It seems like its possible to use some of the Epic's 2.3 sources for JT/Kaos AOSP/CM. Like BT/MMS/Camcoder, those things we currently have problem with.
Let's just think positively
Would be nice if a dev let us know how valuable the Epic and Charge source files were.
Am curious myself since those phones are CDMA.

LG announces Android 4.0 ICS upgrade plans

28 November, 2011
"LG might be slow on the actual upgrades, but at least it’ on time with the announcements. While most of the latest Optimus siblings are getting their first Gingerbread bite just now, LG announces they are all going to taste Ice Cream Sandwich too.
The lucky devices are LG Optimus 3D, Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Optimus LTE. The upgrade roadmap will be announced in December on the official LG Facebook page.
LG also promises it is exploring its options for bringing the Android 4.0 to some older Optimus smartphones too. So there is a tiny chance the Optimus One and Optimus Chic might get some Ice Cream Sandwich treatment as well."

They (lg) could give 1 single rat's ass about our ARMv6.There "upgrade"would be generic at best.ARMv6 is obsolete and will continue to fustrate devs efforts to "fit" all the new crap to run on it now & in the future.Never the less Andy will be sucessful (ICS) and his worst result will blow awayany thing LG might (maybe) have to offer as an upgrade.LG wants to sell you a new phone with ARMvXX & Qualcomm will make even that old when you buy it.I love my O1 p-509 and will probally run it into the ground with andy's port on it.But I would still "hack" any android I buy on XDA.You guys are all the BEST..........Thanks

all stock rom's are ****, no matter if you use LG, samsung Huawei or any other manufucator,
they all put in all **** app's and stuffs, even if LG may be slow on upgrade, it doesn't meen that the phone is stupid or LG is not a phone to buy, its the apps and no good resources they put in,
and the custom rom's is always better as they want to increase everything the manufucator has missed
I'm pleased as it is. Phone is ten times better than when I bought it thanks to the guys here. They made the phone even bigger bargain than it was so even if we don't get ICS its not that big of a deal.
I have doubts that LG will update out O1s to ICS, just because the phones on that list are their newer or high end phones. Sure we can run it with the right resources, but they already tried to avoid updating us to GB.
Plus XDA ROMs will always be superior so i'm not worried about LG doing it or not.
Next thing you know its gonna be like gingerbread when they said we needed a 1ghz processor.

[Q] ICS?

I know we don't have any ICS kernel sources yet but do you think we will get ICS before this August?
I thought I read somewhere that we were getting it in the next month or two. I would assume we would have a good working ICS port at the least in the next month or two. Can't speak for the devs here, but I thought that's what we were looking at. As for when ATT will push it out, that could be forever...I hate how long they take, but oh well.

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

Guys... the development of our phones is coming to an end... we have less and less developers everyday and I don't think I'm good enough to develop anything decent my self.... we need to find people to develop and fast if the future of our phones is to be a bright one....
I agree with you... but I think maybe is time to other people (including us), learn some more and keep doing a nice job. Not as great as some developers I guess, but someone has to do the work. I know, its hard, but what we can do if not is change our phones

This is just my two cents worth:
Take a look at the Android Development section. There are many budding developers with their themed roms oh, I mean heavily tweaked and modded roms out there. I'm not sure about the rest of you but I feel that this is simply wonderful. Its a good opportunity for beginners to learn more and serve the online community here. I'm sure in 5/10 years time down the road, some of us will look back and say "Hey the Optimus One was the Android phone that got me so interested into developing and look at much I've learned" or "It was my Optimus One phone that made me love Android".
So alright, our phone isn't considered a legacy device (yet, of course hopefully never) so hang on in there I love my O1!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Well...I think the developers are enough to build an stable version of ics.For GB,we already have Oxygen which is amazing..or neko's rom if you like some changed graphics. If we'll have stable ICS...I don't think we can request something else from them.Even like this,I'm happy with Oxygen.
The thing is that o1 gets older and older, and resources are very limited.600 mhz...just saying.
The developers will upgrade to better phones.
This phone...I think it was it the top when it comes to developrs support. It was a cheap phone with good performances at that time. Now games, versions of android, apps, all request more resources and in time this phone won't be able to offer enough.
Probably this phone was a challenge for most of developers. We wouldn't have so many roms if this would have...a 1.4 ghz / dual core processor and this stuff.
Don't worry my friends,in time we'll upgrade our phones too.And for most of us,this phone was "first love" ...and you know what they say,you will never forget your "first love"

o1
you realize that this phone is 2 years old and most developers have switched to nexus devices.
you realize this will never have an official update ever again
you realize this has an armv6 processor
you realize that we have reached a "glass ceiling" for now maybe quallcomm will be nice or someone comes up with a workaround or we can get a leak
you realize that this phone has no official flash support
you realize that we have an HVGA display
thats why so many devs are leaving and or moving to another phone IE. Nexus
so many devs went to the nexus, franco, milk, bok, dax\
im new here

That isn't development^^
I'd really like to change my Optimus One for a better phone but I really can't spend lot of money for a phone. Android 4 is beautiful but set a LOT of devices apart. Now Android looks like something for the few. I still have to understand what should I do with a dual/quad core phone: my Optimus One is old, armv6, 600mhz but I can still use it with Lightbox, Twitter, FB, G+, gstrings, Maps, Endomondo and a lot of apps with no much lags (and I didn't overlock). I hope Tizen or especially Boot 2 Gecko will be good enough to revive not-so-incredibly-old phones like ours. Android is fantastic but it's going too fast.

Lolz, 2 years is such a lotta time My previous phone was 6 years old till I changed it. I bought my O1 last autumn. 6 months is really looong, so I think I gotta buy newer one
I switched to HTC one v but unfortunately there's nothing in development section like O1 has I luv my O1 I'll never forget my first Android phone which was our beloved O1.....

webos port :)

Hey guys,
Do you think it would be possible to have a port of webos on the rezound.? The beta was just released and I am curious if someone could get it to happen or want it too? Not telling people to do it ,but just curious if people are interested .
Thank you

Unless you wanna do it yourself. everyone's busy with aosp or just source in general. So short answer:
No way.
We really don't want to run an obsolete OS that was dropped about a year ago and will probably never exist again.
ill do this after touchwiz and android cupcake.
cupcake? really? wtf lol...I would have gone with froyo or eclair

WebOS won't be able to work on this device because we'd have to get RIL working on it first. WebOS is only going to be able to be on devices that are in the official AOSP repository (Nex1, S, GNex, Nex7, Xperia P) or devices that have been fully cracked open for development (HD2, DInc, GS2, etc) so most devices probably won't get WebOS unfortunately

Its sweet but the real problem is who actually wants it? I have a feeling someone will port it and everyone will use android. Like on the touch pad.
