Info: Bypassing Activation - Droid Eris General

Through my hours scavenging XDA and related sites, I've found ways of getting past activation. If your not aware the MOTO Droid bypass trick (by hitting the corners) won't work on the Eris, atleast with the ROMs I've used. But here are some helpful things to try to keep your Eris from being a paperweight.
....Easiest things first.....
This has never worked for me but it wouldn't hurt to try it:
At the activation screen right before you call to activate,(below the statusbar)tap the top left corner of the screen then the top right, then continue to the bottom (just above the call button) and then tap right above the emergency call button. Then it should say skip activation
...Now for things that have worked for me in previous builds.....
Tap the activate or "try again" button then hang up. Do this 3 or 4 times. That should do the trick
.....One that sounds like it should work for 2.0.....
Press activate then immeadetly press home or menu. This is actually a bug they fixed in the OTA update.
...The one that always works for me...
On any screen you will see the emergency call button
Push it.. yes now push the button, no it will not call the cops
Now dial ##778 and push call
Wait a sec and push edit
This will open up your phone activation settings
Now go into your NAM settings and look for anything that resembles a phone number, I had to mess around with it a bit. But I changed some values from 00000000631 to some random number. After that push menu and write the values then reboot. If you did it right you will see the tutorial on how to enter text.
Hope this helped

Forgot one part. Before entering the nam settings it will ask you for a code. Enter 6 zeros there

By Pass Activation
This is what worked for me. No I didn't figure it out, whoever did is a genius.
As many people notice tapping 4 corners on HTC eris doesnt work because the version of it is different from regular DROID but this is the only way you can bypass it.
STEP 1) press EMERGENCY CALL
STEP 2) DIAL ##778 (CALL)
STEP 3) PRESS EDIT MODE
STEP 4) ENTER PASSWORD WHICH IS: 000000
STEP 5) TAP NAM Settings
STEP 6) Enter Your 10 digit phone number press OK
STEP 7) TAP NAM 1 and enter you 7 digid cel phone number without area code
STEP 8) TAP NAM 2 enter your 3 digit area code
STEP 9) TAP back
STEP 10) TAP SID/NID settings and change the left box to: 40 leave the right box as it is(then tap ok)
STEP 11) TAP MENU
STEP 12) TAP COMMIT MOD.
AFTER STEP 12 the android eris will restart in 10 seconds and will bypass the main activation screen.
This is the manual configuation for HTC ERIS

All Not working
I have tried all the above options, but non seems to be working (maybe its new firmware, and all have been blocked)
Any1 knows of any new hacks to bypass the activation ?
BTW, I have unlocked the GSM part with xtc clip
Thanks

Are you trying this from a stock based sense ROM like xtrsense? Or an aosp/cm ROM? It won't work on aosp/cm. You need to be on stock based.

Isn't the Eris CDMA only?

Test Codes

If this has been posted before, go ahead and /dev/null this mods.
Stolen from another board.
VIEW/USE/MODIFY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
*#*#4636#*#* for battery and other general setttings like GSM/CDMA
*#*#8255#*#* for Gtalk service monitor
*#*#7780#*#* for factory data reset
*#*#34971539#*#* for information about phone camera (be very careful hitting options here)
*#*#7594#*#* change the "Power" button action in your phone.
*#*#197328640#*#* service mode
*#197238640# service mode
*#0*# testing mode
*#06# view IMEI number
*#1234# display phones current firmware
*#*#1472365#*#* gps test
For those wondering, the "Change action of the power button" simply changes a long-press of the power button to shut down, as opposed to the choosing b/w Airplane mode, Shutdown and Silent.
These are pretty cool. Thanks
Most of these are linkable via Better Cut as well.
Codes - How to
For those wondering what these programmer (or developer) codes are and how all this done:
These are programming codes and "support" or service dept. codes to get to various menus and interfaces on the Vibrant.
All phones have these and they are typically only known to developers, tech support and even some customer service reps for use when people call in a panic to say the phone is on the fritz.
WARNING: I WOULD NOT ENTER CODES UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THE BELOW AND KNOW WHAT THEY DO. (Some codes are harmless if you screw things up, others may brick your phone, perform a hard reset, delete apps, render the phone and parts of it inoperable, or negatively affect functionality.)
For example, where the OP says "Information on camera" code, be careful on hitting certain menu options on that interface. I don't see a need, at this stage anyway since the Vibrant is so new, to enter that code, so why not avoid problems by not entering it.
After all, the camera code does not do that much for the end user (that's you). Two of the menu options do in fact give you info on what camera software version is running your camera but until Samsung provides a camera firmware update, what good does it do you to know what is running the camera.
But two of the options that you might be tempted to press say:
"Update camera firmware in image" - that's on the ROM.
"Update camera firmware in SD card"
You might think those check the Net for an update, similar to what can be done in Android Settings. But pressing those menu items does NOT access the Net.
If you press either of those it will DELETE the existing camera software on your ROM. It will then look for the update. Since you don't have one, the update will be incomplete and your camera will be inoperable because you deleted the software required to operate it.
Then you're stuck with making a warranty claim saying "My camera stopped working" and hoping they don't discover that you deleted the software and refuse the claim (or charge you for the software reinstall.) Note: I don't know if reinstalling the ROM that's on the Vibrant will reinstall the camera software.
So be careful.
____________________
Still adventurous? (I know you want to enter some codes, just for the fun of it.) Well here's how it all works:
1. You enter these codes via your phone dialer, enter the numbers as if you are going to make a phone call. (I have had some people ask me that, where do I type in the numbers.)
2. On all code entries you will always type a *#*# at the beginning of the code entry. This tells the Samsung Galaxy S that a code is about to be entered (that is, the numeral after the last #).
3. At the end of the entry you will type combinations of the #*# or whatever is indicated. This is to get you out of the phone dialer and into menu interfaces of whatever you are trying to do or to activate the command.
4. On entering the last character of the code a menu will pop up, where I say it should or the command will be executed.
Here's a teaser code, I will enter all kinds of them later.
This one is harmless if you screw it up entry wise.
This is the code that the OP mentions, but I will explain it a bit more.
____________________
You are probably aware that when you press the power button on the right side of the Vibrant a menu comes up with choices of putting the phone in airplane mode, silent mode, and power off.
Well this code can change the power button's function to just turn off the phone when you press it, that is, rather than a menu popping up. This basically saves you the additional step of having to press a menu item to turn off the phone.
(You can enter the same code and change it back to where the pop-up menu appears when pressing the power button.)
Here is what you do.
1. Go to your phone dialer.
2. Enter this code: *#*#7594#*#*
3. On entering code a window/graphic will pop up that says
"Shutdown - Enable to Shutdown on End call long press." (Note: Although it says "end call" what it means for the Vibrant is the physical power button on the top right side of the phone. There is no physical "end call" button on the Vibrant. End call is performed with a touchscreen command.)
4. There will be a box to check and uncheck. On accessing this the first time the box should be unchecked.
5. Check the box. A green check mark will appear.
6. Back out of the page by pressing your back button until you get to your home page, or simply press the Home button.
7. You do NOT have to reboot for the change to take affect.
8. You can try it out by pressing the power button. If you did things right the phone will automatically power off.
Bonus Tip: You can enter the codes in your contacts, with a descriptive name and the code in the phone number field. While you can't "dial" the codes from the contacts menu you will at least have reference to them. (And you can sometimes perform a copy and paste.)
I would like to add that *#*#7412365#*#* brings up a Camera Firmware page that includes both the phone and camera firmware information, as well as the ability to flash new camera firmware.
I did the power button one yesterday and it's nice but out kills my lock screen too. I like the way the puzzle thingy and the lock screen in general is set up so I'm torn.

Yes, that's what I mentioned in my perhaps way-too-long post.
That's the code I say to avoid because it does not serve any purpose, because:
1. At this time, since the Vibrant is so new, it does not matter what version software the camera is using. We have to assume it's the latest. Even if it's not, we can't change it since Samsung has not provided a camera firmware upgrade. And,
2. Pressing the update (flashing) camera options will "brick" the camera since the operation will first delete the camera firmware and then search for an update. Because you don't have one, the camera will be rendered inoperable.

Tool to quicky flip airplane mode on and off?

Currently my work area is in a room in the basement of the building I'm in. I get no Verizon service in that area. When I emerge from my cave via the elevators or stairs, it sometimes takes up to 5 minutes for my Eris to realize it is in coverage. So to speed the process along. I flip airplane mode on and then off again.
What would be nice is a tool or app (if it exists) to do this for me via a single click. Sort of like flicking the lights off and on.
Any ideas?
What rom are you running?
If a cyanogen based rom, longpress a blank spot on your homescreen, choose widget, then set up a new power control widget & select only the airplane mode. The customization of the power control bar might work for all froyo roms.
If an HTC rom simply longpress, select HTC widget, look for the settings Widgets & choose airplane mode.
If neither works, install "quick settings" from the market. Or search for "airplane widget" in the market & choose from the options.

Kaos Froyo. I've got the regular widget that has the different buttons on it, but was thinking more of something where I don't have to wait for it to go off and then back on again.
Beautiful widgets has one.
And I don't understand, you don't want to wait for it to go on/off? I don't really "get" what you're trying to say.
I want to tap one button or icon to have it go into airplane mode and right back out as soon as it is done without my intervention.
Not tap (wait 10 seconds) tap again.

It takes about three seconds for airplane to go on in xtrSense 4.6 with the little Sense widget and once you press it usually it doesn't take long. You lazy bum.

I guess. There's been times where I came out of the basement and it took 10 minutes for my voice mail indicator to come up and text messages to start rolling in.
Or some magical tool to say "Hey buddy! You're in coverage now, hurry up and get a signal!"

Lock screen telephone shortcut[SOLVED]

Hi I do not what happen I was messing with prl because I just activate in my country so suddenly In my lock screen (and after ota update of software) the phone reboot and I have not the dial or telephone icon, just a empty circle. I try change in settings but I can't find something like telephone in applications any help? Thanks a lot
Edit: Solution was apply again the updates

You need to do the second update. You might have to open HTC watch for it to prompt you or go to system settings and do it manually.

Yeah, go into settings and software update. Choose the HTC one. If it doesn't come right up, keep trying. After the update you might need to reboot the phone as the update won't do it for you. After that you will be golden again!
Mine must be a freak?
I did all the updates (all 4 of them under settings) and battery-pulled many times.
The phone icon is STILL gone. It's freakin' terribly frustrating.
Hello,
If you want to do anyway with the Lockscreen altogether, you can get No Lock in the Android Market for free and it could not be easier to use. You can also easily turn back on the Lockscreen by pressing the Icon.
With No Lock engaged, you have to do is press the Volume Button or any other Button to get the unlocked Screens. The Screen goes out in the same time as whatever you set the time to be.
Cheers,
JJ
I could be wrong, but I think you are having the same issue that was covered in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147524&highlight=missing+phone. They were able to resolve it with the steps provided. Best of luck!
Oh yea, Thanks a lot

[Q] Can't attach anything to txts

My girlfriend and I both have an Evo3D. I've had mine for almost a year, and she just got hers this week as an Asurion replacement for her 3rd Evo Shift (digitizer issues).
This phone works well, but she pointed out that she can't attach pictures to a text message. From the Message list screen:
1.) Open a conversation
2.) Press the paperclip to attach
3.) Select Picture (or whatever you want)
4.) Press "Gallery"
5.) Select an Album
6.) Select a single item
7.) (return to 5)
The phone never actually completes step 7, it goes back to step 5 infinitely until you press the Back button. If you go through the gallery app and "share" through message, it works kinda well; but not really... Phone is up-to-date with ICS and stock ROM.
Should we factory reset and see if that clears it up? Anybody else seen this issue or similar? There are no add-ins other than Swift Key 3, and we've tried it using the stock keyboards.
I also noticed she can't add Widgets to her home screen (the list comes up blank)... so does the "app shortcut" section, as well.. All help appreciated, thanks
Sounds like a hard factory reset is required, no widget screen? At this point, that's all you can do
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
There's apparently a setting called "Don't keep activities" under "developer options" and my curious girlfriend thought it would save battery power to turn that on... turning it off fixed both issues. Thanks guys!

Back Button Does Not Function

For some reason, my back button has stopped working. Regardless of which button I press, I get the application task list. I can not figure out how to fix this. I have rebooted a number of times and it still does this.
Same thing here! I already contacted Samsung and Sprint, they don't know how to fix it! Take it to the store to get a replacement !
Same Thing here
Everything was working as expected and the two buttons (Back and running apps) stopped working, i made a factory rest and it did not help, I am suspecting the cover that have magnets in it and I removed it, shut down the phone for few minutes but it did not help, I will try extending the time it is shut down and see the results.

Guys, you can try to pass to Simple mode, and then try if both work, if yes, come back to normal Mode.
Leaving the mobile without my cheap cover that have many magnet resolved the issue and both buttons worked again. Please check if you have a cover that is not supported which is probably the reason for these issues.
I have a similar issue with the note pro using a cheap cover which causes issues pushing the pro to standby while being used.
I can not be sure that the cover is the reason for that, however this resolved the issues for me at least for now. I will try to reproduce it again and check,
Left the Phone with the cover on and same problem pops up again, and when I took the phone from the cover the buttons started working again but after few minutes, the buttons goes bad again (without the cover) so the issue is not the cover. Too bad and don't know what to do except to send it for repair.
Here is a "solution" that has worked for me. My S6 is the Verizon variant, but I think these steps will work on any Service Provider.
Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity and interaction > Assistant menu
From here, toggle the switch to "ON". This will create a hovering circle with a window with four panes inside it. If you interactive with the hovering circle it will open a new window in which you have access to the back and recent apps buttons via an onscreen button.
Not sure what has disabled the hardware buttons, but this should give you access via onscreen software.
I know it's not a true fix, but a work around.
If someone finds a true fix, please post it! But in the meantime ...
I hope this helps!

BAck Button & Open Applications Button Not Working on Samsung Glaxy S7 Edge
Hi
i bought Samsung Glaxy S7 Edge just few days ago, up to yesterday everything was fine, but suddenly back button & Multi folder/Application button stopped lightingup and working.
i have tried all the things i knew, rest, factory reset , cache wipe, factory wipe but nothing is working with me.
i cant take it back to the shop where it was bought from because it was in other country.
Any body else having same issue ? or any suggestion ??
BR
On my Galaxy S6 Edge that if you press the back button with your finger covering the whole button, the recent apps thing comes up. Buuut if you press the right side of the button (but don't cover the whole button) then the back button works.....I dunno why. I have to use the Accessability thingy like some iPhones have though for the most part...if anybody finds a better solution then please reply!!!!!
Here is a tip: if you have problems with a hardware button, try using the application "all in one gestures"to change the functionality of some of the buttons. Some features require root, but most just require accessibility
Root yours and enable onscreen navbar.
