[Q] Samsung galaxy music player app - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung galaxy phone and I love the look of the music player. Is there any way to get the music app to work with the Archos 101. Step by step guide would be great.
THANKS

Not easily. The Music.apk file that Samsung uses is using the same standard 'com.android.music' name as most android devices for the music player. What this means is that when it attempts to install, it sees that another file with the same name exists and attempts to install over it... which it cant because the location is in a read-only section of the Archos device.
There are only (2) methods that I know of to get around this...
1) root access (replace the Archos 'Music.apk' with the Samsung 'Music.apk' file)
2) hack the Market.apk file and rename the 'com.android.music' Manifest entry name/title to something different. I think there are methods to hack and edit apk files, but I"m not really that familiar. The issue, I think, is putting the apk file back together... there's keys and signatures involved.

Thanks not the answer I was hoping for. Oh well.
If anyone else has a suggestion with steps. It would be appreciated.

And it may or may not matter, but the Samsung Music app does not support SMB/uPnP like the Archos one does. But I do agree, the sammy app is nicer

[Q] iDoser; is there an android version?

It's an app that uses audio frequencies that are supposed to have an effect on the neural brain waves in order to achieve certain states. To reduce headaches, to achieve deeper meditation, to induce deep sleep and mainly in recent time to achieve the state as the drugs do. To get high as after a splif or feel the rush of an X and even to feel drunk and so on and on.
So is there an android version of it? I've been searching forums and sites, googled it forever and found nothing.
Thanx in advance.
You know it's a scam, right?

I thought so yeah.
However , even the uselessest (let's presume that's a legit word) app could at one moment have been found on my device even only to be ran once and then uninstalled for good. If you know what I mean
yeah those things are rubbish. you could always play the idoser mp3s on your android phone though
Rubbish to an extent, those noises do screw with my head. Not pleasantly and nothing like the description claims.
I do remember seeing some apps for brainwave entrainment and such. The idoser site says to use the mp3 files on android and such

I have been able to find the latest version of this program, and it has some of the doses available. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to unlock all the other doses.
the obb file has all the mp3 files, and the apk file, if chabged into zip, will have lots of information, maybe the information necessary to change to have all doses unlocked is in there, but I can't find which file and what to change.
I would be pleased if someone found out how to unlock the doses and share it.

[Request] Galaxy Player dictionary app

I've read that the Korean-English dictionary app on the Galaxy Player is really great. Would anyone be able to dump the .apk file for that app?

Here it is. I bought my Galaxy Player 5.0 (YP-GB70) in Korea while I was working there. I can't guarantee that the dictionary app is cross compatible, but give it a try and let me know if it works (or doesn't), and we'll move forward from there.

Also, an aside; I do speak Korean fluently, so if I can help you there, let me know.
And, more importantly, to search a word in Korean in the app, you must use Samsung's input method "Samsung Keypad".
Cool, thanks! I tried a straight install of the .apk file and it failed. I'll have to play around with it some more.
As for the Korean language stuff, my wife is Korean-American, so any time I spend with her family is basically Korean immersion for me. My Korean is pretty much limited to the words dog, cat, elephant, and car. Not terribly useful.

I figured that might happen when you tried to install it. I'm thinking that you're going to have to be rooted in order to install it. There should be some info on rooting your device if you Google it (if you aren't already rooted).
If it so happens to be that you are rooted, then you could take the dictionary apk that I provided you and copy it to your SDcard directory in your device (via USB or FTP). Then, you would have to use a file explorer with root access (e.g. Root Explorer, ES File Explorer), and copy the dictionary apk from the SDcard directory to this directory in the root of your device:
system-->app
Then after you've done that, reboot and try installing it again. I can't guarantee that this procedure will work, but give it a shot. Otherwise, you'd have to get into more difficult procedures such as using APK Manager to ADB push it.
Still not luck. I pushed it to /system/app, but that didn't work. I also spent a little bit of time last night playing around with it, and tried some of the stuff mentioned here. I'll have to play around with it some more tonight.

[MOD] Spotify app with AVRCP bluetooth metadata

Spotify App with Bluetooth metadata (i.e. album , title , artist ) modification.
Attached is current version @ 4/1/12 (v0.5.4.73) - works perfectly with my Subaru Bluetooth, let me know how you go.
Installation Instructions (from fayez @ spotify):
NOTE: you will have to redownload your music (this may be prevented by manually copying the apk)
1. Download the .apk file and get it onto your phone (you don't need the AVRCP zip file at all - it's for reference only)
2. Uninstall your current version of Spotify
3. Install the custom .apk (you may need to turn on the ability to install from unknown sources first... It's in Settings > Security for me... Make sure to turn it off afterward)
4. Launch the app and log back into your Spotify account and enjoy.
You won't receive update reminders from the Play store, but will need to check manually (if you do see one, let me know so I can patch it. )
Original Post:
Hi guys,
I've been trying to modify the Spotify app so that the title, album and artist information shows up over bluetooth with AVRCP. I found a really helpful site with a patch/diff file showing the smali changes that need to be made. I've had a crack, but I think the current version of Spotify is different to the one the patch was made for.
the patch is set to make changes to one smali file (ad.smali) (smali/com/spotify/mobile/android/service/ad.smali)
however the important parts of that file are now in x.smali (smali/com/spotify/mobile/android/service/x.smali)
Any guidance/help would be appreciated. It frustrates me how my car stereo doesn't show up any useful information (even though it does with the stock music app)
I've attached the original smali, my attempt as well as the patch file.

I've successfully made the old version, works perfectly with my Subaru Bluetooth. I'll keep trying to get the new version working....

Is this the latest 0.5.4.73 build? Does this work on any phone, or in my case the Galaxy S III? Should this thread be moved to general Android dev and not specifically for the Note II?

2 things worth mentioning - it broke facebook authentication for me, but I fixed that by going into my spotify account on their website and generating a device password and using my device username/password.
https://www.spotify.com/us/account/set-device-password/
Secondly, the track progress isn't working on my 2012 VW RNS-315 but the display and controls still work.
Sad how everybody has been asking for this for over a year and Spotify just makes excuses and basically tells everybody it's too hard.
Thanks! Very nice to see this.
I so hope spotify see fit to incorporate this into the official client.
Just one thought -- I also tried the method at http://www.julian-young.com/2011/04/21/finding-the-spotify-external-sd-location/ to move offline storage to sdcard, but the removal of the app to install this one clearly undoes that.
Is there any easy hack to this one to move storage to sd? (again a feature spotify need to put back)?
I realise an alternative is to root and fix up at the filesystem level using links/directory bind, but currently I'm using 2 apps (sky go, pingit) which have some issues with rooted phones (though I may give up on them anyway)

It's strange they removed SD card storage. I use directory binder for that. You could hard code it. I'll look into it.
In terms of track time. It should be possible. I'll have a look into it. I'm pretty new to mucking around with smali though

Thanks mate - very useful. Just installed it and will test it on my way back home. Could you please add an information in the first post, that all offline music will be deleted when uninstalling the original app? Hoped that a redownload of all tracks wouldn't be needed but unfortunately it does.
Thank You! Is working just perfect in my VW Passat!

I works good in my volvo however the meta text updates 10-30 seconds after the new song starts, or if I press Next track button in my car stereo.
To have the meta text update instantly you need to select a song in the spotify app in my android phone.
Anyway, a big THANKS for improving the app!!!

Tried to install this yesterday, but since I have used the mentioned trick to have the music stored on my external card (install old version - change path - upgrade), the installation failed when trying to install this patched version. I guess this has to do with the signing key.
I'm not that familiar with Android development (yet), but I tried to replace the updated version apk with the patched, and it didn't work. Do they have to have the exact same name for this to work?
Is there any other way to replace the currently installed version manually? Would it work if I decompiled/repacked both the old version and the patched one and signed with the same key?
Would really love to have the bluetooth working, but I rate the possibility to have the music stored on SD card higher.
try this

I had problems as well. App did not work when I tried it first.
However it works good now after I installed it again using this procedure:
1. Clear cache / erase data files in : Settings, Apps, Spotify.
2. Uninstall old Spotify.
3. Install new patched App.
4. Login using Spotify username/password (do not login by using Facebook).
Honestly I think it's nuts that someone had to patch this in ahead of Spotify's actual development team.
I appreciate this. Just installed a new head unit and it bothers my OCD that I can't see any metadata.

Yes, I know it works if I unstall first. Sorry if I was unclear.
But since I have used the method of first install an older version to set the offline path to the external card, and then upgrade to the latest verson, I don't think this setting will "survive" if I uninstall first.
Hence, I would like to simply "replace" the currently installed version with the patched apk, without doing an actual install. Is that possible somehow?

This is what I've been waiting for ages!
I tried to set it up with Galaxy Nexus (and VW RCD-510), but no luck so far.. Did you managed to set it up also with Nexus?
Thanks for this! Unfortunately it doesn't work on my Sony MEX-BT4000U head unit though. I completely removed the original version of Spotify (including deleting data and cache) and then installed this version but there's still no track, album or artist information displayed on the unit. Any ideas?

[HOWTO] Manually adding lyrics on Sense 5 Music Player

hi,
this tutorial quoted from HTC one x thread (thanks to mr1029x) and this is the thread.
Somehow HTC (or GraceNote music database?!) didn't allowed to download the lyrics for some countries (geographic limitation!! may be),
so for those how didn't work the lyrics in the sense 5 stock music player, they have 2 solution:
1. MANUEL: this method quoted from HTC one x thread (all thanks to mr1029x) and i tested with success:
FIRST, go on the internet and search for the song's lyrics. Remember, if you want it to works properly, you need to findtwo types of lyrics: the normal text one, and synchronized one which is found in .lrc file types.
The first normal text ones are easy to find through famous sites such as metrolyrics or azlyrics,etc..
The .lrc files are a bit harder looking up and not always available on the internet. You could learn how to make one yourself right here
Click to collapse
Personally, I used app from playstore called "KiePlayer" which download and generate a *.lrc file(synchronized lyric file) for your musics.
SECOND, create a notepad and paste the normal lyrics that you found to there, save the file without any extension, name it "Songfilename"_lyric (without quote).
In the same way, copy the content of the synchronized lyrics to notepad, save the file without any extension, name it"Songfilename"_lrc (LRC not IRC and without qoute).
For example, If your song file name is ABC.mp3, name the files ABC_lyric and ABC_lrc
THIRD, plug the phone into your computer, copy two files that you've created to:
Computer\HTC One X\Internal storage\Android\data\com.htc.musicenhancer\files\. albumarts\storage_external\Music
Remember, look for a file name Songfilename_not_available in that directory, if it exists, delete it
Enjoy
Note:
The _lrc file is required for the lyrics to pop up while you're playing music, if you don't want it, then you don't have to create
Try to google search "filetype:lrc Song Name" if you don't find any synchronized lyrics with normal searching
Click to collapse
2. AUTOMATIC: download any VPN changer app from playstore (i tested the "TunnelBear" app with success), then change the VPN to US or UK then go to your music player and activate the automatic lyrics download and that's it, you will see all your lyrics of your musics (if they already found in the "GraceNote music database") displayed in your music player, then you can dis-activate your VPN app (this method need to be activated ONLY ONE TIME).
thanks
help me
please make screen shot or video tutorial. i did. but not working.
Thanks for this!
By the way, if you guys want lrc files, I'd suggest a program called minilyrics. It works with iTunes and downloads user-created lrc files that you can edit yourself. It's free too, and it's the way I get lrc files.

Hi, I think if you provide more informations about your problem (procedures that you did exactly) would be better so we can

I think it didn't need screenshots or video tutorials, because it is a very simple procedure, and if you had any problem with the first procedure you can use the second one.
Thanks

[Q] Timely alarm clock as ringtone?

Hello, recently I found out about the AMAZING app Timely. It is absolutely beautiful and works great. I really love the default sounds it comes with, and would like to know if I could get one of the alarms as my ringtone. So is there a way to get the music off this app?

Any chance you could re-post that zip file? The only other way to get the sound files appears to be extracting the apk and I'm not sure I know enough to do that successfully.
You can find timely apk file on your device (in /data/app folder), select it and choose to extract (apk is a package like a zip file). All sounds in ogg format are in res/raw folder

I'm pretty crushed that they've stopped supporting Timely, it really was the greatest Alarm Clock Android has ever seen.
Personally I can't find the .apk file on my phone, but I've found a few other places on the net where it can be downloaded and extracted.
There's even a SoundCloud playlist (I can't post links yet, sorry)
The trick for Dalia (My favorite as well) is that the actual file name is "la_gitar.ogg". I had to listen to them all to find which one it was.
Several others have different names in the app versus the actual file name.
Hope this info helps others.
Cheers!
But.....
Could you tell me where you found the file? I've searched, and still can't find it
Thank you for the help! It's very sad that Timely is no longer supported, best clock app on Android, have been using it for years! 5 plus easy! But at least now I can use the alarm sound I'm used to.
