I'm on the rooted stock MT4G rom, and joined the swype beta when I had the MT3G. Last week I got a notification that the new beta was ready. Is there a way to update my swype with the latest and greatest beta?

i got it to work on mine, i had to un-install swype then i did a search for files with swype in them and deleted all of them, then the installer worked and the new swype also worked " version 2.15.56.14870". I got it to work on the release day, and it has been working well.

Interesting, swype themselves said that it would not due to the firmware..
Edit- confirmed working beta! I used root explorer to find all the swype files. I suggest you click r/w before you search.

Well damn. I need to try this. I was without swype for weeks because I deleted the default one and tried to install my beta. It was saying the english pack was missing or something

Yes, that use to happen to sometime. Switch boards then go back to swype. Should work then

I used root explorer. go into system, menu, search, enter swype. delete the apk and the other file. reboot. you might wanna copy them to your card first just in case
so just deleting those files will allow the installer to work? do you happen to know what the filenames were?
I uninstalled with Titanium Backup, and then deleted everything with swype in the name with Root Explorer, and then installed the new Swype beta. It constantly FCs. This just won't work for me...

Are you able to re-install (restore the files) the original version?
i just did a restore with clockworkmod. didn't want to deal with any issues with trying to reinstall.
Hey, is it possible to download the new beta anywhere without a beta account and use it without proper licencing?
I would even pay swype inc. for their product, but they don't let us

The apk and another file. If you do it how I said, it will show the two
I deleted the app using system app app removal then using root explorer to search for anything with swype (2 files I don't remember the name) then I'm able to install another swype version.

I couldn't get it to work, maybe someone else will have better luck.
EDIT: To make it work halfway, install the attached apk after installing zip. then under settings for android keyboard, disable all auto correction features....this allows the keyboard to open up, though once you press a key on the keyboard, it force closes

EDIT... Okay i got it. After you install, reboot, fix permissions, then go to applications and clear data. Typing this response with it.. and it sucks. LMAO.
I will take a screeny and post it. It must have been the skinning causing the problem. After i did it, the keyboard turned White.

build.prop
I believe we need to change which version of the sdk the build.prop references. I took a quick look at the file last night buit was too tired from work to try and find it in notepad. It should look like "ro.version.build.sdk". I'll look for it tonight, change it and see what hasppens.

That is exactly what it is.
tried everything, nothing worked for me... FC every single time...
Works for me on CM.
Removed DroidX KB since it was worthless and used the same lib and pushed both files via adb.
Edit: used files from HERE. Extracted both apk and lib.

Spent and hour trying to install it... pushed through ADB, got the /system rw, but anyway im getting FC... it says on some forum thread that I have to have the LatinIME.apk removed before I put the new one, otherwise FC will always happen... any time I tried to delete or uninstall latinme.apk it failed... any ideas how I can remove the old LatinIME before I push the new one?

This is a dirty way of doing it but it does the trick (at least for me)
I found this KB not as good as HTC_IME mod so, even though I have it installed, I still use HTC, mainly because predictions are better on it.

tried to do it that way... it removed it, I reboot the phone, push the new LatinIME.apk, and same FC... yeah, I use HTC_IME too, mainly cause I like the russian keyboard on it... and I never use predicitons...
i dont think this kb works for sense roms... only for stock aosp

FAQ / Issues
Q: After reboot, Swype breaks. I can no longer Swype words, the border just flashes, but I can still tap out letters.
A: Go into the Swype Installer, and select "Generate License" from the menu, and follow the instructions. It takes about a minute, and it's annoying, but it's better than restoring data/ re-installing.
Q: I'm missing languages that are supported!
A: Re-install Swype, I suggest backing up app with Titanium Backup, and restoring ONLY the data afterwards.
NOTE: Modifying Swype in any way, be that decompiling to invalidate license validation, or adding languages, or just customisation is not condoned in any way, by me, or XDA. It should not be discussed here.

I would be grateful if someone made a UK English only version (to save space).
EDIT: it's pretty small actually compared to other versions! Guess I don't need a custom English only.
Works great but in beta there is not my language ,but it is not neccesary to me so.
I tried it today after much anticipation. It stops working after a reboot as a swipe keyboard and you need to reinstall it make it work. SlideIt is best once they make it small layout.
Edit: on reboot, you need to get license once again.

Really, I have no such problems!?! Have you moved it to SD? that made it become the non default for me on boot up but then I just reset it as default and it worked fine.

Same happens with rc2. Simple fix is to restore data from titanium backup after a reboot.
That will overwrite user settings and custom words, just use the generate license in Swype installer.

I don't think so but they seems to release update soon for other languages as they mentioned on their website.
I Installed Swype for first time and it was stuck on completing installation, had to reinstall again.
They need to reduce Suggested words pop-up size and show it below the word at center of the screen. that will be pretty convenient to tap
Hey guys. Its been a while since ive posted anything, so i figured id share this small thing i did.
I was absolutely sick and tired of the home screen of tmobile's visual voicemail app. I thought it was absolutely hideous, so i went ahead and changed it, along with a bit of the button framework. Also the launcher icon, so its not pink anymore.

***If you have visual voicemail currently installed (either as a system OR third-party app) it needs to be uninstalled BEFORE installing this modded version.

Im running trigger 3.1. I remember it gave me a little bit of an attitude when i first tried to install it as well.
Are you trying to install it as a system app? because that could be why. I remember I wasnt able to do that, which is why i noted to install as a third party app from your sdcard. but if thats what youre doing, then i have no idea why it wouldnt work.

OK. No one else has reported the issue expect for you two, and youre both running Trigger 3.0, so I guess we can assume that it doesnt like the ROM...which is VERY odd. In fact i almost refuse to believe that, because realistically, any app that i can run as a third-party app, you should be able to as well.
unfortunately i dont have a solid answer.
only things i can think of is use root explorer, go to /system/app and just double check to make sure vvm-signed.apk (or something like that) isnt there. also go into something like titanium backup or system app remover, and make sure it doesnt show up. theres a small possibility that there was some data left behind, which you could wipe with titanium.
these are the only things i could think of
I don't know if it has anything to do with it but there is an updated version in the market. I can't install it on Trigger 3.2 Final.

yah that wouldnt have anything to do with it. This modded version is based on the VVM apk that came with Trigger 3.1.
if its working on my phone, theres no reason why it wouldnt work on anyone else's, regardless of the ROM...this would indicate that the people who are having trouble may not be getting clean uninstalls. It is a very odd issue, but all i can advise is make sure there are absolutely no traces of Visual Voicemail anywhere on your phone.

Yes, I fixed permissions. On Trigger 3.2 Final, the Visual VM is vvm-signed.apk and is in the \system\app folder. I tried to rename it, then totally deleted it. Tried doing a normal install = fail, then a push to \system\app. Is there some other folder to try? Wi;; you be updating to the current APK? (assuming I can get it to work!)

This almost bricked my phone.. I pulled my battery, re-wiped my cache and my phone booted. Then when I selected the keybord I keep getting a force close for android.keyboard.process.latin or something like that. The keyboard is unuseable. Fix this (or remove the latin) And it should work

Same thing happened to me, just use root explorer and place the .apk in system/app and place the .lib file in system/lib and reboot....works fine now.thanks op

Don't throw around blame so haphazardly. Why didn't you just adb into the phone and remove the offending apk? Are you aware at all of the risks YOU take when you flash something?
Oh, and the Latin refers to the layout of the keyboard, e.g. for Latin based languages, English included.

Swype is it's own input method app. Just like thumb keyboard or the default HTC keyboard. It doesn't work in conjunction with another keyboard app. If all your asking is if there is a swype style option with this keyboard, then the answer would be no.
I've been trying to use this keyboard all day. It came on Warm's TwopointThree ROM, and I just can't get the hang of it. It seems too small for me, and I am constantly getting typos and pressing "L" instead of backspace. It could be my fingers though.

Hey everyone! Some of us already figured it out but for those that haven't...
To install Swype beta...
Root phone
Then
Get a file explorer (I use es file explorer)
Goto system/app and remove Swype.apk
Then
Goto data/data and remove com.Swype.blah.blah
Reboot
Then install Swype beta
Win!

Difference between beta and stock version?
I wish I took before and after pictures lol.
To me the button layout is different plus if a newer beta gets released you can't install if the preinstalled Swype in on the phone. As an added bonus with the beta swipe if you look hard enough you can find a themed version and instructions on how to theme the beta version.
That's why it's important to me but to each there own

Betas are usually more updates to auto correction and typing wise. The ones that come pre installed are usually months outdated

My data folder was empty so I don't know what to delete, so I used titanium to delete the old swype.., but I keep getting a parsing error on the beta after login ..re re re installed, no luck.. any thoughts

Yeah, I get the same parsing error. Judging by their forums the issue is pretty widespread. I would wait until the devs get around to it.

After you got the parsing error trying to install the beta, were you able to easily restore the original pre-loaded swype keyboard back onto your phone, with Titanium Backup?
I've downloaded the beta myself but want to confirm I can go back to the pre-loaded swype in case I can't get the beta to load either. I've not seen anyone say one way or the other whether they were able to return to the original swype if they had problems installing the beta.

Yes I was. I just returned Swype.apk to /system/app then restored from titanium backup.

Thanks for the awesome directions knightwolf, and thanks for confirming about the reinstall Gibson, even though I didn't have to use it.
funny thing is before I even made an attempted I checked on here too see what you guys had to say about it, and naturally all this stuff about it not installing right made me say forget it until this morning and all I did was install the latest beta and it worked

You can also remove all Swype material from ur phone using search with something like root explorer and jus install the Swype APK. I'm using an updated themed Swype

Did you have to edit something else to get rid of the language key? I hate that key but when I installed the beta it was still there, just waiting for me to hit it.
Go unselect additional languages. I dint remember but that might be it

yup, thought I was clever for just a second
