Froyo on Nook (codename: "Nookie Froyo") - Nook Color Android Development

Details coming very soon. "Team Nookie" has an early early build of Froyo that is being tested as we speak.

Edit: We had some good times, but this thread has now been migrated here. Please post your questions/comments/thoughts/reactions/tales of woe there. You will notice there is now a link to more info at the wiki page: "Nookie Froyo". There is NOT yet a full SD image. But if you know what you're doing, you can get a bootable SD. (A full SD is just a matter of someone putting together the pieces...)

Best news I've heard all day. Willing to beta test if needed.

Niiiiceeeee!!!

horns to that action

very nice im willing to test also since i have the 2 yr no questions warrenty

@fattire
You have a nook as well?? SWEEEETTTT!!!!!

Posting this from honest-to-goodness froyo. Some bugs to work out.... but it looks good.
Gotta get adbd up. One button sucks and there are other minor issues...but this is pretty rad.
Best part? Booted entirely off sd w no bn owned proprietary code.

The device rocks, I gotta ask the question though...whisper sweet nothings in my ear about how nice it runs on the NC plz.....ty

Wow...that was quick! Nice work so far guys, I'll be patiently waiting for a finished product, rather than beggin to test, or *****ing that you're going to slow. I'd encourage everyone to do the same.

@fattire
Questions on everyone's (well, mine at least) mind... please answer as much as you can, and a big big thank you!!!
1. Is BT working?
2. Is FM working?
3. Can we still use SoftKeys for hardware key emulation?
4. Can we overclock the processor?
5. How's the video playback?
6. How's the battery life compared to stock?
7. Since you're booting from SD, does that mean the internal memory of the NC remains untouched, should we need to boot stock?
and
8. How does the device feel overall?

That whole boot process was from the sdcard? How much space does all of that take?

Seriously, you got me chomping at the bit. I got a 4GB microSD waiting for a release

Just an educated guess, but about the same size as your average nexus one froyo nandroid backup.
Mb

Awesome, is this a beta update from B&N themselves, or a community build? I too am curious about bluetooth, flash, etc..

Very exciting stuff here guys...cannot wait to try an alpha build!
I wonder, if you get a problem, does the 8 reboot trick still fully restore the system to stock?

Stoked! I've always preferred your roms on the Slide. Always the fastest.
Is this built straight from AOSP? Not from CM6?
Can't wait man. Thanks for the teaser vid

I used vendor and proprietary files from CM but everything else is stock. Its a great rom, far surpasses my last rom.
Well crap if I could root I'd so use this rom but guess I'll hafta wait for a more dumbed down version that works with my phone.
What do you all think?
It looks quick, 2.2.1 ?? I'm running Cyanogen's RC3 OC 807mhz, And it's stable. I'll definitely Flash it as soon as you release it ! Any issues thus far ? Either way I thank you for putting this together and helping out the MTS group !
This is actually my 1st post. I lurk and get my info and roms from here. I felt compelled to answer. The little teaser looks great. The rom looks very professional with a lot of time and care put into it. I've used your roms in the past with good results and satisfaction. Keep doing the good work. I like to think there are a lot of people like me that are grateful for whcm.at you guys do but just don't say much. Anyway good job, can't wait to try it and thanks for your time and effort. There are a lot of people who really appreciate it.
Thanks guys! It is quick smooth, there are also no errors. I think you guys will be blown away when its released

Nice! Any time frame? =D
If you posted this right now...I'd flash it. Does is have the built-in overclock kernal that CM6.1 has?
Yes it has it, I dont want to put any dates/times because Im not finished tweaking it, and Im still adding features!
Man i can tell this forum is full of great devs already. Seen your video on this ROM and the other ROM you released and can't wait to try this ROM out. I was trying to check out a release with the 10 second boot time and no luck. Phone boots up fast right now but is it actually a reality to have a 10 second boot time?
Will it have apps2sd built in?
It will not have App2sd, Im sure acejoker can mod the boot.img to allow app2ext but it wont have it by default.
Also Im going to be releasing a public beta, so heres the deal: head here http://goo.gl/O92vH and register, you will see a post "ArayrayMod Revamped Beta". Post a comment like "I want this beta" or something, and if 25+ users post there I will release the beta
The video looks absolutely astounding for a teaser. And boy am I teased. Moment you mention beta possibilities I jumped on it ;-)
can't wait for this!
I think my brother will be happy to try this on the slide i gave him
Looks f'n aweome, tethering/hotspot working off the jump too???
Yes it is, make sure to get everyone to SA (Simply-Android) and post in the thread.

Thank you very much! Just got it running, so far no issues or force closes. I have been waiting on a 1.1 bl honeycomb. Thank you!
Wow! Great news, definitely gonna give this a try, had lots of issues the last time I used a 1.2 based bootloader,so I'm really glad to see this!
Thanks!

I'm actually surprised that it took this long.
We used the 1.2 bl initially because we had to as we ported directly from the Adam devs. But once there were Clem kernel ports, it wasn't technically a requirement anymore. I just never changed my port as my opinions on 1.2 are already well-stated and sticking with it made sense to me, at least. But that doesn't mean that a 1.1 based HC ROM was impossible.
However, if NI releases a HC port and it's using a .36 kernel to make everything work, this 1.1 ROM might have issues with porting that. But this is all speculation, at this point - I don't know if a NI port will even work on a GTAB yet, regardless of the bootloader used.
does this has the same bl 1.2 version issues or just the usb to pc?!
bl 1.2 version has these issues:
(copied from other forum)
- Camera isn't working (pulled out the app for now)
- Browser is working, but OpenGL is disabled for it to work. That means no Flash on the stock browser.
- (High-def) video playback does not work, yet.
any testers can confirm this? i'm a bit feeling lazy to try it today
confirmed but very smooth i love it its not reading my sdcard though how can i get it to read sd card?

Awwwww, yeah! I'm pumped. Is this essentially the same as Roebeet's BOS, with the same features not working yet?
This is great news!
Is it accelerated?
Does it run Flash 10.3?

One other thing, on a good note -- I'm definitely happy to see more modders our there for the GTablet. Options are always a good thing and I plan to pull back a bit, starting new month. So the more HC ports we have, the better!
Quick question... If I'm running Vegan 5.1.1, what do I need to do to install this ROM? Full wipe? Just flash it from CWM? Something else entirely?
Sorry, I'm still a bit of a noob at all of this, but I promise I'm trying to learn!
roebeet said:
I was really hesitant to post anything, as I really don't want you taking this the wrong way. I apologize if it came off as anything else but a concern for post-support, that was not my intent (and, in retrospect, a PM would have been better. My bad).
The branding, for me, is mostly about post-support. Remember, I'm a sysadmin by trade so when I get PM's on issues, I usually ask the usual questions like what mod, what version, how did you install it, etc. That's actually why I started branding "TNT Lite" as such back in November, as it was easier for me to know if a user was actually using my ROM or not. That's really my only concern, here. When two different mods are branded the same, it will get confusing. Especially if they are on two different development branches. It is fun, I agree - that's why I do this. But for users who soft-brick, it's sometimes a major panic attack and a lot of them are hesitant to use nvflash.

Robeet, I think you were spot on, the OP is not reading it correctly. I can just see the flood of posts/PM's asking you questions and users cross posting between 1.1/1.2 because of this and the difficulty of tracking all this. it's difficult enough keeping up with all these great roms and boot loader types, I could not imagine what it is like on your guys side.
OP he is not dissing you, he is just asking that you rename it so you can support issues and he does not have to keep getting cross questions, it's pretty much non-issue in my eyes.
OP, thanks for supporting the Gtab and the 1.1. people like all you devs that make android so much fun and android FTW over IOS.

Yes, full wipe and flash it. do a backup of course just incase you want to go back. back up your apps as well so you can restore them on the other side of HC.

Maybe this should be called something like "Bottle of Smoke MOD" since technically it is a modified version of the original.

AOSP ptIII (the Revenge of the RC)

We are starting a new thread as we enter a new phase of development.
We are beyond confident @ this point that we are where we need to be. We are now working on new init.rc and init.mapphone_cdma.rc that will be able to boot a cm7 atrix nightly.
As of now we only have aceoyame working on these and wish to solicit ideas from those who may be more experienced or who have a keen eye for the obvious.
We will be test flashing this first run shortly. Lets keep this thread clean. We are expecting only comments relating to the new .rc's or pointing out obvious shortcomings of our method.
Expect a test flash to be posted here shortly so others can try along.
So without further ado... here are the initial versions of the inits as modified by aceoyame..
init.mapphone_cdma.rc http://pastebin.com/N3CFNrBX
init.rc http://pastebin.com/KdpL6eKC
Help and comments are welcome...
If you apprecieate our work please hit THANKS on the appropriate post to let us know you guys care and to keep the thread un-cluttered. So far with the other threads it seems we only have about 20 or so users who are looking forward to this.
There is an excellent thread here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372293 started by ashclepdia that can be used for speculation, thanks, etc...
Thanks again to the many users here for helping during the sbf flashing phase.. we may need your help again soon.
And last but not least thanks again to dragonzkiller for taking the time from his busy schedule to get us past the last hurtle.
So fu$king excited! Thanks guys!

While reading init.mapphone_cdma.rc i noticed like 3 mount points referencing yaffs2. From what I understood, yaffs2 isn't supported by the X2. That was the only glaring thing I saw so far.
Keep up the great work
Edit: Everyone, Please lets keep on topic. If you have any questions or you want to say thanks please use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372293
We need to keep this topic clean for the sake of development.
Thanks
can someone explain whats this for and what it does?
Does it improve something?

Took better photo and video?
Better sound quality?

This is me asking for all of the x2 devs to pitch in and help with CM now that we have 2nd init going. The thing holding us back atm is our init scripts, the one were using bombs out shortly before boot animation (before adb runs) any help would be awesome!
Do you have link to CM7 including 2nd init you are testing with?
I want to push it into my phone when I get a chance this weekend and see whether I can help.
Thanks.
Well its a new day.. and i begin my holliday break.. Gonna spend a good bit of it working on this. I have some new approaches I am going to try today. Hopfully we can get some good information from the upcoming tests.

We intend to release a testing package shortly, once it is logging some sort of usefull data for us. In its current conditions it is not very informative. Rather then spending time getting people up to speed on it.. i am gonna try to get it to a point that it is more useful and self explanatory.
Ideally someone with more experience booting on second init devices will come along and give us a nudge to speed things up
In the meantime i have re-written our hijack to work along side our current X2 bootstap so that will save us some sbf time.
Hang in there.. We are getting close. Thanks for everyones support.
Probably should've posted this earlier, but I have a fairly powerful system. I could compile for you guys.

So I take it the script I sent you over helped a lot? It's good to see that! If you're guys' init script works I can patch them into an actual CM7 build for the X2 (So that we can have a device config, and eventually nightlies for it).

Don't worry about trying to compile anything yet. For a few reasons:
They're only patching an ATRIX build, not compiling yet
We don't have a full device setup for the X2 (i'm working on that now)
My computer is more than powerful enough to start releasing office DX2-Dev-Team betas from the repo, so don't worry about compiling yet
I will be on irc @ #X2-AOSP all night for the specific discussion of this thread.
So after a late night in IRC we managed to past 1 of the 2 hurdles we were trying to solve. Thanks to all that helped.

Booting From SD Card On Nook Tablet

Someone on the Nook Tablet Development was able to successfully boot a Nook Tablet from a microSD card. Does this mean that we should be able to see ICS on the Nook Tablet soon?
Not necessarily. It takes time to port ROMs to new devices. People are working on it, but ETAs are strictly forbidden. In the future, it's likely; but the near future? Here's to wishful thinking. Another group is working on CM7, and that should be at least a little simpler and therefore a little sooner.
At least some are working on CM7 and CM9.
Where can I track progress? I know I am coming across as impatient, but I would love to see what has been done and what remains to be done.
Thanks for your answer anyway!

[ROM] [5.0.2] [NIGHTLIES] VanirAOSP [OFFICIAL][VS985] FAST! FULLY FEATURED!

Warranty is VOID... blah blah blah. Flash at your own risk... blah blah blah
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, READ BEFORE YOU POST! USE THE Q&A THAT MAGICALLY APPEARED
EDIT** - This build is for people who want to flash and test, not expecting everyone to answer questions for them.
Now that that is out of the way, here's the fun part. I will post a pretty OP later, but being that I know no one will read it anyway, it doesn't even really matter right now. Those of you that know the Vanir team, you know we really aren't concerned about the problems that YOU THE USER have unless YOU THE USER are able and ready to help troubleshoot by providing information to help solve the problem(s). (logs, steps to reproduce, yadda yadda)
To Install -
Download these
ROM - http://www.vanir.co/dho/3-Vanir-mirror/4-nighties/
GAPPS - http://www.vanir.co/dho/5-Gapps/50Current-DHO-GAPPs.zip (you can test others, but these are tried and true.. don't tell me about your problems using other GAPPS)
Bump your G3 (Meaning install the recovery - boot.img in the ROM is bump'd already)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...pment/bump-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-verizon-t2900590
BACK UP, WIPE, FLASH
At this point, don't ask about what is or is not included. It's probably the fastest AOSP experience you'll run at this point and has plenty of features packed into it. That's all you need to know for now so PLEASE don't clutter up this thread.

Thanks and enjoy
Glad to see another AOSP ROM added to the growing stable, so thanks! Might try this later tonight or something, as I've never given Vanir a shot before. Very anxious to find something extremely stable and with bluetooth calling working so I can convince certain other people near me to convert to the AOSP side Thanks again!
Edit: I totally would try this out now, but my work has the slowest wifi connection on the face of the planet, and my mobile data is very limited until it re-cycles!

Oh how I love the options. Much obliged. I have a 64gb SD card, exfat. It doesn't work on LS, but does on CM. I'll edit this and let others know if it works on Vanir.
Edit: It is not working with the stock exfat format 64gb SD card. I don't know if they'll be adding that support or not, on other devices it was the kernel that didn't play nice but if you don't want to wait to find out, I hear formatting it to fat32 usually works.

I had the same problem with my 64gb sd card. All you have to do is plug your sd card into your computer, make a backup of the sd card, then format it and copy your files back. I formatted for ntfs or whatever option is like that. I don't know if that is necessary or not but it worked for me. I also had to mount it manually the first time I put it back into my phone but after that it works like a charm!
If that doesn't work, try formatting it in your phone first then format it on the computer. This is technically what I did but my phone went a little batty and shut down in the process so I wouldn't recommend trying that unless formatting it with the computer didn't work!
Ohhh Vanir....have to try it. I ran Vanir roms on my Galaxy Nexus for years. Some of the most stable and fastest AOSP builds around. Good amount of options, but not overwhelming. Can't wait to give it a try when I get home from work tonight.
I'll post my findings for others once I have some time to run it through its paces. Thanks to the devs for the great support out of the gates once Bump! was released for use!! You are all AWESSSOOMMMMEEEE!!!!

Bt calling? Does it work? Vanir was one of my faves on s4. Thanks for bringing it to g3
It seems like BT calls is what's holding many people back myself included. Unfortunately it is a must for me. I'm loving all this development and how quickly it's coming. Thank you to all the devs and teams. You guys are great and I'm sure will have a fix soon.

Well, if you look at the time stamps, you'll see that the first two, mine and HerroMoto's, were posted at the same time. The other two, i agree, were unnecessary. And obviously, I read your OP, since I had the question about bumping.

Not fair. There were none up when I started typing my post. I am usually pretty considerate .lmfao
I'm dead serious no one can hear me nor can you hear them.
Everyone having Bluetooth call withdrawal....please give the devs some time to look into it. As with my past experiences with having AOSP builds for phones that were never meant to have it...bluetooth drivers and software stacks are mostly likely proprietory. They (the awesome Devs) will have to look into whether they can port it over.
Now please do what the Dev has asked and try not to ask the same questions 1,000 times (present posts excluded). This will allow them all to concentrate on looking to adding more features and squashing any minor bugs that may be present.
