[Q] Flashing Froyo on Unlocked Vibrant - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am getting ready to venture into 2.2 on my vibrant which is currently unlocked on ATT. Before I do so, I would like to make sure that my phone will still be functional on ATT after going to Froyo. I already have the unlock code, will that change once I go to 2.2 or can I just enter the same one.
In addition, I was reading that there is some directory I should back up prior to flashing a 2.2 ROM? Can someone please elaborate on that?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Unlock codes are bound to imei number. You should be fine.
Use titanium backup to backup your apps and with data. Custom roms do not touch your external card and /sdcard partition on your phone.
Sent from my Nero powered Vibrant

actually if its the first time flashing a 2.2 rom, doesn't it have a chance to wipe the internal sd? i would back up both to your PC just to be safe...
actually i would backup DCIM and any folders you wanna keep.. just to be safe...

Revert to Stock ROM?

Hi there, I have a T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero) and I want to go back to the stock T-Mobile ROM, but I've been told that if I re-flash then it'll brick my phone?
I'm running the latest version of VillainROM 10.3.2 and I found that I may need a Nandroid backup or something? If someone could possibly re-direct me to where I need to find a Nandroid recovery image for my phone, I'd be greatful!
Can you just confirm that I CAN/CAN'T re-flash my phone to Stock?
Help is appreciated! Thanks!
EDIT: I used flashrec to make a back up of the recovery image or some sort? On my SD card is "recovery-backup.img"? Does this help?
Thanks!
I am not sure how it will brick your phone and maybe someone here can advise you on this.
The recovery-backup.img is just an image of the stock bootloader that comes with your phone. If you wish to apply official OTA updates, you will need to restore to your stock bootloader using the flashrec app even after u have reverted to the stock ROM.
Hope it helps =)

[Q] Problem with voodoo, now stuck. Bell Vibrant.

Hey folks, heres a synopsis of what I did:
1) Stock Bell Vibrant, rooted.
2) Installed Clockwork, installed, backed up.
3) Tried to install voodoo for vibrant.
Then during reboot, it sat at the "Vibrant" screen for well over two hours before I gave up on it.
Pulling battery and rebooting always ends up on "Vibrant" screen.
I booted into clockwork recovery, and recovered my backup using nandboot. It runs the process for a while then outputs:
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.4
Checking MD5 sums...
Restoring system...
Restoring data...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File Exists)
Can't mount /data/!
If I reboot, I'm stuck at the same "Vibrant" screen.
I've been searching the forums, and the only solution I can find is to re-flash, but I can't find a stock bell rom for the galaxy s... I was under the impression clockwork backed up my original rom.
Anyway, any help you can provide would be great!
Thanks
Shado
You need to learn how to use Odin if you are going to mod your phone with beta software.
You can use Odin to reflash your device to stock. From there you can start over or skip it. Since you had problems with Voodoo make sure you follow the instructions with the addition of checking the "repartition" box.
Check this thread for instructions on Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748074&highlight=ODIN
Youtube tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnY7P14JSWQ
I agree odin is a lifesaver for most ppl here, and it doesn't hurt to learn something new
I've not installed Voodoo yet, but I read through the thread yesterday and If i remember correctly when Voodoo BETA creates it's EXT4 partition it was actually formating the internal SD card. Deleting most of the data, which would include backups. It seems as though people were using Eugine's 2.2 Froyo Rom then going back to there original nanbackup by moving over a backup that they were smart enough to store on their pc. This is all verbatim, and straight from memory. Start at page three and read on if you havn't yet. I hope this helps.

I love xda and everyone on it!
When I was waiting for a reply I found samsungfirmwareworld and grabbed I9000UGJH2 which was the latest Bell firmware, and I also found the 512.pit.
Following the instructions on that Odin instructions link got me back to stock, and avoided any major medical problems (like heart attack, stress induced coma, etc.).
Thanks so much!!
Now that I'm back to stock firmware, is it ok to re-root, install clockwork, and restore my backup I made pre-voodoo? I did copy the entire clockwork folder from the phone to my PC.

You do know that the Bell Vibrant is an sgs i9000 and NOT the same as the t959 vibrant for t-mobile that this forum is solely for/about, right?
And yes, you should be perfectly safe to restore your clockwork folder and do a nandroid restore.
Cheers,
=)

Yeah, I figured that out over the course of this whole process. I guess just because they share the "Vibrant" name, doesn't mean they're the same. Given the large number of Bell users here, I'm surprised we don't have our own forum for the i9000m. Would it be more appropriate to post in the i9000 forums, even though the Bell phones (from what I understand and firmware wise) are far from their European counterparts?
Either way, for having these problems and potentially posting in the wrong forum, you folks have been great
I have the same problem but i cannot get the samsung usb drivers to work. please help
@shadoslayer... i'm not really sure but i think the only diff between the bell vibrant ang the international i9000 is the hspa bands since bell vibrant has north america hspa.
except maybe for the few that do not have the 3 button combo.
btw, i'm using a bell phone too, on JM7 firnware.

Clearly I'm an idiot and get over excited. I now need to find the stock Bell firmware to use with Odin so I can go back to normal. Any Canucks with a link to it?
EDIT: I got it back to Bell's stock firmware.
So we can't use what other odin post is using for the i9000m bell vibrant?
How did you get it back to bell firmware?

[Q] How well can the Atrix be backed up?

I am completely new to Android, I've never used it before. I'm looking into the Atrix, and one question I wanted to ask - is it possible to do an utter and complete backup of the phone? By which I mean, no matter what gets screwed up in the O/S, or with future attempts to load a custom ROM, etc... - I would be able to restore the phone to its original factory condition.
Is this possible, and if so, how?
If not, what limitations are there?

So, I guess you didn't see the "Atrix 4G Q&A" sub forum? Wheres Mr.Clown? He'll move this soon enough...
there is an SBF thread which allows u to unbrick ur phone and return it to stock assuming ur Atrix is ATT branded, if ur not familiar with how command line interfaces work then u really shouldnt be doin much modding just yet.

I saw it, but I thought it had to do with general product questions, not questions regarding modding.

Thank you. I appreciate your trying to answer my question.
The simple answer is we do not have a full backup option yet. A nandroid backup would provide the full image type of backup you are looking for, but it's not accessible at this time.
You can currently only back up individual parts separately. Titanium Backup for root can help with apps. Blur can store your user settings. Google/Gmail keeps your contacts. As already stated above, flashing the leaked SBF will take you back to (near) stock, but will wipe most everything to get there.

I'm not worried about backing up components or data. I'm looking for a way to ensure that no matter what shape the O/S is (including being bricked), that it's still possible to restore the phone to factory new condition. I don't mind wiping the phone to get there, that's assumed as part of the process.
The SBF is a good start, but what concerns me is that it's not quite identical to what's originally on the phone. That's why I was hoping for a way to do a local backup that would guarantee an identical restore state.
If nandroid would accomplish this, what is the current roadblock to using it?

The SBF is nearly the same as the stock version. It's actually got some bugfixes in it too. The one broken thing is the WiFi firmware (on mostly Enterprise/Corporate networks), which Da_G has fixed. That fix will be included in the 7th beta of GingerBlur.
Moved to Q&A.
FWIW Q&A is for any kind of question pertaining to the device, from "does this phone have a camera" to "what backup methods exist".
Cheers

That's good to know. But I just wanted to clarify which SBF we're talking about. I thought the one to use if you needed to unbrick and return to stock was OLYFR_U4_1.5.2. Is GingerBlur usable for the same purpose? Or are you talking about applying that *after* OLYFR_U4_1.5.2?

Hey guys and gals
I'm no noob when it comes to this rom topic but on my Miui I can not get my external_sd files on here. I have rebooted a few times and that's a temporary fix but goes back into not finding my card. I have scan it on the computer and got no errors I just wanted to know if there is something I'm missing. Thanks for your time (P.A.)
Miui on vibrant a great decision

if you're on GB bootloaders it wont see it, unless thats just for CM7 but im pretty sure its or miui aswell
That I couldn't tell you. I just downloaded Miui, Odin back to stock, then flashed to Miui. So I'm on the default bootloader. Now bootloader is one area that I'm noob in.

most odin packages here don't have bootloaders. Just because you odin to stock doesn't mean your on froyo bootloaders.
On a side note, I think that cm7 has been made compatible with the gb bootloaders.
I get confused by the fact that you can get it working sometimes
Beware of angry gingerbread man
ok I just tried to put the froyo bootloader on here and all i get now is the recovery screen. I followed the steps to a T but now I can not get out of the recovery.

plz help a clueless vibrant user with ROM

I am working with a company phone at my bosses request..what he really wants is a rooted phone on Froyo with Clockwork recovery.
This proved to be more of a challenge than I thought (Froyo). I did try to get around the signed update problem in the E3 recovery but wasn't successful.
Finally, I odin'd back to Eclair and installed CWM. It is weird in that I have to reinstall the update package each time to get CWM.
My questions:
1) anyway to get it into CWM directly (each time?; so it defaults to the CWM)
2) re Froyo, I guess the only way is to use CWM to install a Froyo based ROM?
a) If so, any recommends on an almost stock rooted ROM with Exchange email? (would prefer one that had the bloat removed, however; prefer stability to speed)
b) If I flash a Froyo ROM, am I ok in that I don't have to mess with the new bootloader business?
Thanks for the help!
(an Atrix owner out of his element and nervous about the bootloader biz after having previously dealt with the Moto locked bl problems )
You don't need to mess with bootloaders in order to install froyo. If you're on eclair then just put the attached update.zip posted by s15274n on root of your internal sdcard. Do not rename it or anything. Get into recovery, reinstall packages TWICE and you'll have your recovery then flash any froyo rom you want. Yes, it is that simple. There are few latest ones posted by Jellette and fishman0919 in development section. For example this one ...
