Hello!
As I'm quite a maniac of customization I wanted my phone to have custom sounds for every notifications.. tired of "Pizzicato", I made some custom sounds which you can use as notification sounds (and some were found online).
List of sounds enclosed:
* Elisa - Stay
* OST - NCIS
* OST - Need for Speed Tokyo Drift
* Sound - Angels
* Sound -GnicoGnico
* Sound - Magic Bells
* Sound - Piano
* Sound - Roses
* Sound - SMS
* Sound - Sweet Violin
* Stone Sour - Through the Glass
* The Verve - Love is noise
They are all .mp3 files stored a .rar archive.
In order to use those sounds as notifications you must create a directory on your phone (you can also create on microSD) called "notifications", then copy all the files.
I've been searching tones like this for a long time. I'm tired with the boring ringtones default.

Q - Which is better? This or DSP Manager?
A - Neither. DSP Manager has a fully editable EQ whereas mine has EQ pre-sets and a volume multiplier. They both use the same API's (albeit in a slightly different way) but use different methods to achieve the volume boost. This app can also go much louder than DSP Manager can (not always a good thing!) so you will encounter distortion with the higher values.
THIS APP AND DSP MANAGER WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS IF THEY ARE BOTH ENABLED. PLEASE DISABLE ONE TO USE THE OTHER.

This is only for the main loudspeaker, turn it up too loud and it will distort horribly. You have been warned!
DSPManager will probably not work too nice with this app but it should be ok if you disable the "phone speaker" EQ in the settings.
The same effect can be achieved with DSPManager, but this can go much louder.
This shouldn't cause any damage to your phones speaker (unless you turn it up to +15 or so), but i would strongly advise against playing music out of your phone's speaker constantly. It distorts, therefore it's doing some damage, however minor it may be.

Awesome! Any chance to include a boost percentage? I find that it's a LITTLE bit too loud.
EDIT: Turned it off as I just realised that it COMPLETELY distorts my notification sound (Pollux).
Yeah its a bit too loud. Ill reduce it a bit tomorrow.

I can confirm that it is working on a myTouch slide running CM7RC4. Great work. Any chance of getting a boost on the small ear piece speaker. It is really quiet even when turned all the way up.

Yeah Pollux does, none of the others seem to though. I'll have a look at playing with EQ a little.

Buy a different phone
Seriously, the speaker on the Nexus is dreadful, there's not a lot you can do.
I'm trying to get a compressor working but it's not responding very well.

you cant say its dreadful..
in cm 6.1.1 the speakers sound was as high as your volume fix does, but it was very smooth without any cracks..
its not yet achieved on gingerbread but that would be unfair to say that speakers are bad, coz on froyo they were loud enough.

hello, would like to help in the forum. I have a Xperia X8 and found two wake-up call for other models of cell and converted to a high quality. Let me share with you who are starting in android, like me!!
installation:
1 - Download the attached file Alarms.zip
2 - Extract to a folder on your memory card and rename txt to mp3.
3 - Open with your music player and apply it as a ringtone for alarm clock
(In the X8 is only set as ringtone it appears in the list of alarm clock tones.)

-in normal mode you use viper as your main audio and all of its components, while in compatible mode you retain your phones sound settings and juz using viper as an equalizer.

DAMAGE in what case? pls be specific.. was using it 8/10 volume for almost an hour to drain battery and all went well..
-In this set up, you could actually enhance your home speaker boosting sound using your phone as an EQUALIZER.
-make sure your phone your on interaactive or performance/ noop when doing sound set up...volume quality takes alot on our phones
