Simple idea for a g tablet stand. - G Tablet Accessories

I been using my GPS suction mount. It make a great stand and it also work for holding the g tablet with one hand. Oh, and it's cheap.
See this thread for pics:

Oh, and can be picked up at Best Buy or amazon.
Cheap option: $10
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1R0XVJJ2GGEEDQBQD4N3
A little more adjustable option: $12
http://www.amazon.com/GARMIN-010-10823-03-Adjustable-Suction-Cup/dp/B0012MJXXA

Thats an excellent idea!! Thanks for that, I was using a picture frame holder, but I like this better.

Glad you found it useful. It's made my tablet much more enjoyable.
My dock just arrived, but I like this for when the docks not needed (charging, HDMI out, ethernet). the dock has a fixed angle. I can muve the suction cup up or down and modify the angle as I like or the situation dictates.

$1 wire picture frame holder from walmart. Works great and was really cheap.

yup, thats exactly what I did, works great.

I have been using one made for the Ipad by Targus. Its a little clear acryllic plastic peice that allows for 45 degree viewing and 80 degree viewing for Portrait mode as a reader. It was only 15 bucks at Micro center.

Suction Cup Stand
Tried this out for myself and it works great.
Thanks for the idea.

Local Target had the Garmin ones for $12.... wish Ihad picked it up.

I wouldn't want to be around when you're carrying it around with one hand and that suction cup lets go...

If you lok at the picture you might notice I don't just grab the holder. My hand is under the tablet with my thumb or fingers around it. I can comfortably hold it with one hand this way.
As a stand, even if the suction cups came loose, it would be a big deal.
If left on for a long time eventually they will come loose. I only put it on when I'm using it and it if fairly sturdy. But yes... due care is in order.

I bought a garmin suction cup holder on e-bay for $ 6 delivered. Works perfectly!
Great idea.

Getting mine from ebay as well, $3, that's crazy.
Been wracking my brain trying to come up with some sort of stand i liked, and this was it, great idea.

I have the carbon covering on the back. I'm suspecting the suction won't work, anyone can confirm? Thanks.

I have the same covering and no it will not hold suction.

Do you think that one of these things would be sturdy enough to hold during a car ride? Im contemplating using my old GPS suction mount as an alternative as you recommended.... My idea would be to have the side that is used usually on the GPS to be screwed into existing holes in my car.... I have a fairly comfortable non-bumpy ride (Yukon) so, it's got me thinking....

Hummm... It may, at least for a while.
Honestly there is a change it would lose suction at some point and end up falling. So it's up to you.

Ive ordered some of the carbon fiber for the back of the tablet, im just concidering that if im going to stick this carbon fiber on the back, perhaps i could maybe put a hole in it and incert some sort of bracket, or clip, that i could connect a mount or stand too, if the gtab had some sort of connection on the back, even if it was just some sort of sleeve for a mount to slid into, would make it easy to make a stand, and have some sort of car mount, what do you guys think about this idea ?

i don't have anything on the back of my tab, but can't get the suction cup to stay more than a few minutes. are you using something to hold it in place other than suction?

Nope... Just the suction cup.
Maybe you have a bad suction cup. Male sure it clean.Wipe both surfaces with a damp cloth.

Another universal stand that works great with tablet

Suction cup windshield phone holders??

I have been looking around for a sturdy phone holder that suctions to the car windshield to hold my phone when I am using google maps and gps. I have seen quite a few but Im just wondering if anyone has had experience with any in particular.
THanks
Im looking on-line for the same thing.
If and when i find one, i'll post back.
Cool. Thanks Mikey. I'll keep looking too.
I bought this suction cup for the windshield, I LOVE IT!!!
Worth the money!!

Hello. I'm in Florida and have purchased a few different windshield mounts that well i paid 19.99 and it was JUNK. Granted this was from all the local places. Usually the heat just warps the suction cup and poof no good anymore. Have you noticed if this is happening with yours?

Can you rotate and use it Horizontally? For the occasional MP4 TV shows...
Remember California limited windsheild mount items (that were totallly banned before, but everyone was doing it and cops were not enforcing it) to the lower left corner only I think a 5"x5" area (so they can give tickets to center mount items now! so watch out!)

By the way, why did it go from $20.94 to $28.16?? because the picture changed? its the same item!! I bought one of these suction cup things with custom mount/quadhook for a MIO GPS for $9.99 shipped and it was a very quality built. This one sounds like its triple priced item.
I got mine. I paid about $20 for it and it looks pretty sturdy. I stuck it to the windshield yesterday evening and locked it in place. When I got in this monring, it had fallen off. I will clean the glass placement area, wet the suction cup and retry.
I did set my phone in it and go for a drive. It can hold the phone in portrait and landscape...good with auto-rotate. Overall, I like it.
I just can't trust them. Mine always seems to fall off.
Maybe a vent clip would end my worries?
Mine never has fallen off. like i said i love this one.
For the ones that keeep falling off, try moistening slightly the cup before you stick it to the windshield.

Car Cradle

Someone is finally making a car cradle for the Touch Pro 2 that Verizon and Sprint (Not T-Mobile) should be able to use and its cheap. I emailed the U.S. seller and he said it fits though it is really for the GSM Euro versions. No surprise though as it is passive only. Heres a link to their website: http://www.buygpsnow.com/HAiCOM_Car_Mount_HTC_Touch_Pro2.aspx
Anything is better than a squeeze cradle
I have one ordered so will update a review but at $12.95 and $2.50 shipping kinda hard to go wrong even if it only lasts until Proclip gets off their duffs.
I found a coupon code for free shipping. It is hit or miss apparently but worth a try. Code is 430.

nice find. please let us know how it works. i have a vzw tp2 as well and have been searching for a car holder. right now it sets on my passanger seat...
Just a quick question, why do you think squeeze cradles suck?
I've not had one but was considering a universal mount from Arkon, which is a squeeze cradle.

Its been years since I've seen a phone thick enough that the jaws need to be anywhere near as deep as the vast majority of the squeeze cradles on the market yet they still make them that deep, at least the ones that are big enough to hold a PDA. This would not be much of a problem except they use soft foam in the jaws that is almost invariably also very thick. When you squeeze it tight enough to keep the phone from falling out, it has a tendency to roll the foam right down over the screen making it difficult to use things like the slide tray in Touchflo 3D. It is also difficult to remove the phone as after a short while the teeth of the jaw start wearing down and it sticks closed making the button hard to push. And thats with a good cradle like and Arkon, which is what I have been using. Lesser quality cradles are even worse. There are better squeeze cradles that address these issues but they are all for Iphones. Saw a nice one the other day with nice thin jaws and rubber grips that fit the phone perfectly with a friction lock instead of teeth and a cam but it had and Ipod cable and FM transmitter built in making it very expensive at like $69. Looked real nice too with a nice shiny finish like the phone has but at that price, wasn't going to buy something that I had to cut up to use. To bad the company did not make one with a USB cable instead. Unfortunately most of the good stuff is made by companies that drank large quantities of the Steve Jobs kool-aid years ago.

Thanks for the response, very good reasons not to go with a giant squeeze cradle.
I've been looking at this mount http://www.arkon.com/phonemount.php
Curious if anyone else has used it with the TP2.
My phone works splendidly with a $15 squeeze cradle from Walmart. It's not too thick, secure, and does not obscure the screen.
I have an old Treo 650 Pro-clip mount that works perfectly with the TP2. The phone slides in securely and comes out easily. Obviously no active connection but it works great. I put double sided tape in the back of the of the mount and it holds my Fuze perfectly as well.

Just came in the mail on Saturday. The cheap shipping took one week to the day. Quality of the cradle is very good. The clip at the top is actually spring loaded, not just plastic that bends back, like the Seidio holsters. It is removable if you won't need to use the cradle in landscape to make it easier to take in and out. The cut out at the bottom is definitely for the CDMA phones. It should work with the European versions also. THIS CRADLE WILL NOT WORK ON THE T-MOBILE VERSION AT ALL. It is a perfect fit for my Verizon phone. This is not a cradle you want if you need to use the keyboard while it is in. For me that is not and issue and it makes me uncomfortable having plastic wedged between my keyboard and screen anyways. Seems like it would be hard on the slider. The windshield mount is very nice. It has push button friction locks instead of screws for the joints and the rotation is spring loaded so its easy to rotate when needed one handed. The suction cup is very large and has a good positive locking mechanism. It is larger than the average suction cup so if you need a dash disk like I do, you will need the largest one you can find. Unfortunately it does not come with one. Since they are selling this so inexpensively, that probably a place they needed to cut their losses. The quality of the cradle is much higher than the price. The cradle does not use a standard mechanism to join it to the mount so you will either have to use the one it came with or go to the website and see if they have another kind of mounting solution. This is really the only limitation I can find. You will not be able to use it with your Proclip solution if you have one. Any more questions you have, just leave them in this forum.

I had one for my Touch Pro and it was nice enough but it kind of made the gap between the keyboard and phone wider over time. If you absolutely have to have the keyboard open while driving its probably the best on on the market, though to me that keyboard open is just and invitation to disaster. Its hard enough to keep hands off the phone while closed They are not inexpensive by any means. Depending on how you need to configure it you can easily spend well over a $100 bucks. The powered cradle alone without a car specific mount is $60 which is competitive with other powered solutions, but the non powered ones at $40 bucks seem more than a little like highway robbery to me especially since you will still spend $30+ on the mounting solution for the cradle. Still, if you need that keyboard open its the only decent solution at this time. They have no powered option for Verizon yet, but the non powered one they have listed for the AT&T Tilt 2 will work on Verizon and Sprint. The phones are exactly the same shape as the AT&T phone except for the ports on the bottom. If you want a fitted cradle but don't need the keyboard to open while mounted, this is the posted cradle only real solution I've found, but its inexpensive and good quality.
Now if you want the best of both worlds, I was wrong about the Proclip mounts not working with the cradle. They make absolutely the best mounting solution hands down since there is no damage to the vehicle. They have cradle adapters on the site that will make it work and the price is not to bad.
http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionp...egoryid=&p_year=&p_countryid=0&p_leftorright=
The suction cup on the cradle is 3.25 inches and this adapter is 3.5 inches so it should work.
I'm not a fan of clamp holders or suction cups, had enough of unintentional flying objects. I usually make my own holders that slip into a vent clip from theclip.com
http://theclip.com/store/Ultra-Clip-with-Vent-Mount-p-16176.html
This time I found a perfect custom made touchpro2 holder for $1.35! It clips right into the vent clip with just a little grinding on the vent clip. It holds the phone solidly and perfectly positioned for easy phone use and GPS mapping.

Nice find on the holster. Never had a problem myself with a good suction cup holder and nothing bounces like a Freightliner. I find that taping a small vanity mirror to the dash works much better than those little round plastic disks since they where designed to stick to glass. If you have two phones and two holders like I do, the small rectangular one they sell in the automotive department at Walmart will hold both and its only 2 bucks and looks nice. I am not a fan of any kind of vent clip. The two worst enemies of electronics are heat and cold and something as heavy as a PDA is going to break the vent eventually. What I have done in the past is use something like this: http://theclip.com/store/The-Clip-Mount-p-16156.html with a holster or case.
I'm going to get the holster. Been looking for one that faces out like that.
I already have a clip in the car so won't need to take my mount with me when I get off the road.

Homemade Stand for Gtab

Ok so I could not wait for a stand and did not want to go put $$ down on something that was not perfect fitting for the Gtab.
I have lots of tools and wood, so here is my 15min $0 Gtab stand.
I used a piece of scrap PERGO flooring from when I did my kitchen that matches the wood on my desk and it has a foam underside built on to it for no scratches.
I have felt pads in the corners where the tablet touches.
Tab sits at a 45 degree angle. I already have ideas for a adjustable version as well that may swivel.
it has my my enjoyment of the gtab better.

You are correct and I stand corrected. it is more of a stand at this point. It could turn into a dock down the road if the one viewsonic makes is not up to my standards I guess.
Thanks for pointing out my mistake, it has been updated.
Very nice, I was thinking about something like this, but much smaller. Something like a kickstand on the device with rubber feet, not sure why they didn't build something in for using with keyboard, but I guess that is what their dock will be for.

Ahh the Joy of Legos... I gave my 5 yr. old son, who reminds me he is 12 yrs. old in Lego years, my ZT-180 tablet with a Lexar 32GB USB disk loaded with 19 hours of 'Star Wars the Clone Wars' episodes... and sure enough I found him watching it on the floor while playing Lego with Star Wars characters and he had incorporated the tablet into his 'Command Ship' that he was building...
He used a LOT more pieces to hold his tablet up
I don't know if my son would let me have the lego pieces to build that, I would have to fight him for them!

This is really the best cheap stand... I used to use one when I had my GenTouch.
Mine was black and actually looked really slick... I'm sure you could find a variety at any thrift store. Found mine layin around the house somewhere.

You can also use a business card holder from an office supply store. The metal mesh ones work good because they do need a slight bend in the top to add stability.

You can also adjust the angle of the tablet by drilling a few more holes in the base closer to the slot. If you dont have the tools for the slot, just glue a strip of wood where the slot is. Simple!
what's point of tablet if you are going to use it like laptop?

i want to be able to clip it on or near my bed so i can watch stuff in bed. that would be the ultimate.

I hate to admit it but I'm looking for something similar too. Id like an arm that the dock can stand on.

Someone else mentioned the mountguys.com
I checked it out and while they may not have exactly what you need, they have more mounts for more devices in more places than even where the sunshines!

yea i checked out mount guys but their stuff isn't that descriptive and only 1 pic of the product.
i'm looking for some like a strong, flexible neck that also has a strong clip so i can just clip it. i don't want to drill any holes in my wall or anything.
Am I the only person thinking really hard about one of these?
joby.com /store /gorillamobile /original
I'm sure I could stuff it in my cup holder just fine, and my nightstand, headboard, lap, living room ottoman...
My only curiousity is if it would support the gtablet..

i can't speak for joby products but i've tried something very similar to these and i am pretty sure they won't be able to hold up the gtab. i noticed they don't even have one for the ipad. or any tablet for that matter.
Have you seen the Rocketfish Apple iPad Stand? I saw one of these at Best Buy today for $59.99. I did a quick search for reviews on my blackberry and decided not to get one. It's got 3 sizes of rubber pads which, I think, would allow it to be used to different tablets.
Can't post a link yet, so you'll need to google it.
I'm using a plate hanger I picked for 2. bucks to hang the tab on my wall.
so i guess no one has created or found a way for this to happen yet huh?

Your best bet may be to try one of those document holders secretaries would use in the olden days to hold up a document while they would type out a memo or the like. I'd bet a search of Staples' website may give you guys some possible ideas.
Modification
I have not tried this (and have no need) but what about taking a clip on lamp with a flexible arm or even an articulating arm and changing out the bulb socket with one of the cup holder mounts... a few screws or nuts and bolts to hold it tight in the lamp socket ...

.... or how about a simple tripod with a piece of wood as the base mounted with the camera mount and then either velcro or a combination of wood strips on bottom, top and right side to keep in place. You could place it very close to the side of your bed and use the tripod arm to find the perfect viewing angle.

thanks for the links! i've actually thought about repurposing a lamp's bendable neck and just attaching some kinda clamp so it can hold up the gtab. the thing is though, the gtab is pretty heavy. the neck would have to be pretty sturdy, and most lamp's have a pretty weak neck. not meant to hold up about a pound and a half of weight.
so i bought this from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/PHR-NB-PB2-26...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296063786&sr=1-1 the neck is strong but its still not strong enough. i only bought it because it said its made for a dell inspiron mini 9, so i thought for sure it can handle the weight of the gtab. but the clamp didn't fit the gtab properly. the tab was about half an inch bigger than the clamp. and the way i had it positioned on my bed, the neck was not strong enough to hold the tab up. it used suction, and although that was strong, it would still fall off sometimes.
so what i'm looking for is a clip, with a strong neck, and has a clamp that will snap into place around the gtab so it can hold it in place. if i can buy this somewhere, i will be all over it. i can make it myself but it would take me a really long time because i don't have the workspace or time to make it. i'm not that good with arts and crafts stuff lol.
oh and i can't use a tripod because i'm on the top bunk on a bunk bed.
Ok next thought... top bunk ... could you mount a cable (Home Depot) and use pullies? Yes, I found those lights even are a bit tough to manuever and maintain position with just a light bulb in it. I like the type that has articulating arms with springs. Those springs can be beefed up with rubber bands. The next best thing would be a computer monitoring arm but it sounds like you couldn't drill into the bunk bed... so how about the PC monitoring arm and mount it to a piece of wood and then use come C clamps to clamp the wood to the bunk bed. Oh I just found this: http://www.amazon.com/Inland-Monito...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296069779&sr=1-3
or even this: http://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Ti...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1296069779&sr=1-14
and then again either de-construct your existing holder or construct a velcro based holder... piece of wood or purchase a copy holder and velcro from staples: http://www.staples.com/Staples-BookLift-Copy-Holder/product_515621?cmArea=sku_pd_box1 and http://www.staples.com/VELCRO-Brand-STICKY-BACK-Fasteners-Black/product_31402?cmArea=SEARCH.. Bolt the copyholder (book holder) to the arm, and use velcro to further secure the holder to the arm. A little bit of DIY but should work well up on the top bunk.
yea C clamps can work. and velcro. dunno why i didn't think of velcro. i'm gonna have to do some measurements and figure this out. i have a bookgem holder so i'm gonna see if i can velcro the back of that and attach it to a C clamp arm. that way, i don't have to stick ugly velcro on the back of the tab and i can use the bookgem to clamp the tab in place. thing is i have to figure out how much velcro i can put on the back of that bookgem and if the bookgem will stick. there's not a lot of surface area on the back of that thing. if not, i'll have to find another backing. maybe a piece of wood like you said or the copy holder.
thanks for all the suggestions!
DealXtreme has mount for the iPad which should do the trick;
Car Windshield Swivel Mount Holder for iPad SKU# 47030
Has suction pad for mounting.
If you want a desk or wall mount, consider the Ergotron line of products - http://www.ergotron.com/ - I can vouch for the desk mounted monitor arm and they have a laptop tray attachment - http://www.ergotron.com/Products/tabid/65/PRDID/147/Default.aspx - which looks like it would work for our tablets. (The end of the arm can be adjusted so that the laptop tray is at an angle more suitable for a tablet screen)
Has anyone actually tried one of the windshield mounts?
This one on Amazon doesn't exactly had rave reviews - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Good Bike mount for the Note.??

I just received this from Amazon...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PR3IC0/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
not sure if i like it...it seams secure, but i had a problem with it on a bike ride today and i think im going to send it back...anyone have a good one that they recomend?
i thought about getting one for my bike also, but then for some reason i don't think i want my expensive phone getting crushed if i happen to fall over or hit something.
surprisingly that never went through my head with my iphone.
Trident offers a bike mount for their Kraken case, which should be released soon. I've used RAM mounts before, very very sturdy.

I ride with my wifes old Aria in an Otterbox (REAL Otterbox) + standard 4 hole GPS mount motorcycle mount. It stays in place pretty well, but no way to interact with the phone, so I gotta leave the screen on, and the box isn't that clear, has some amount of frosting to it, although I haven't had any problems reading through it.
Plusses are it's waterproof and pretty bomb proof, so if I get caught in the rain or wreck, the phone should be safe. It'd really be nice to be able to interact with it though. I have to stop, pop the latches, open the lid...
The Note actually fits in it if I take off the phone case, but I don't think I'll be riding with it like that.
Anywho, if you want, I'll look up the exact things I got.
I don't think it's a good idea to mount a bike on the Note. It's not that big...

Do you have a link for the mount? (and the case)
Thanks
I got the Samsung Car Holder for the Note which holds it very securely . It seems to have the same ball connector. Maybe it would fit together with the handle holder instead of the Window thingy. Just a thought.

Those squeezable mounts suck. Sorry for your loss. I have used these, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cycling-Bik...962477?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3375756eed. From ebay, and Asia. But they have worked out. You can find different sellers for them.

The note with a VERY THIN case will fit in this Otterbox. A normal silicon or TPU it wont' fit, or will just barely fit. And remember, you can't interact with the phone in the case! Although with a dremel, you could possibly have a pretty tough case that you could touch though, although it'd obviously be less bomb-proof and you'd have to do something for water resistance. As-is, it's almost bombproof and waterproof.

http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-GN032-AMPS-Motorcycle-Connection-Compatible/dp/B003FMUP14
To attach I just templated the holes on the case with the mount, drilled. To maintain water resistance, I put a piece of an old intertube between the mount and the case, just a bit of silicone, and screwed down tight. I've dunked it in in the sink, nothing. The screws on the inside I put duct tape over just in case anything rubs, but I put together a piece of cut-up foam in there to secure the Aria I normally use in the case.
