[Q] Odd camera problem - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't find this anywhere so far, so I thought I'd ask you guys.
I recently updated the ROM to thr newer Tmobile one on HTCs website. First the camera stopped working, hard reset solved that one. Now it's doing something else.
If I take a landscape shot I get a small set of interference lines across the top of the image, if I take a portrait shot the interference lines become a large wedge down one side of the image. These lines are not there when the phone shows a preview image, but when I look at the saved image the interference is there. Presumably that makes it a software issue.
Is there a way to reinstall the camera?
I attached a portrait image to show the effect.
Cheers for any help,
Tony.

reflash/update the rom again. then when started up, reset by switching off your mobile. Once started up, now try the camera. If you stiil have the same problem, then flash back to the original rom, before the update. See if its ok on that one.

Weird dead spot

So there's a (what I thought was a dead spot) sensitive spot near the top of my screen. It's about an inch tall and spans the whole screen wide. If you press normal to hard it'll do a instant single click. But I found out if you touch it really lightly it'll function like normal.
Now the weird part is it stays w/ the rotation. If you turn it upside down or sideways the bar always effects the same icons and widgets in its path so I don't believe its a hardware problem.
Anyone else have this problem?
i'm assuming you're using a 101 as this seems to be a normal defect of the device. there is a fix where you have to dig inside your archos to get rid of the flex or you can just make a habit of lightly touching it. it's a pain trying to drag widgets on the screen b/c of this.
you can try to recalibrate the screen to see if it may help any.
Yea on a 101 and the recalibrate doesn't help. What is this fix your talking about?
Sent from my htc EVO
The fix that madsquabbles is referring to can be found here:
forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=41717
(You will have to copy and paste the link. I don't have enough posts to enter a URL. )
I have also read that it may go away with time and multiple recalibrations, or that it may be caused by a "rogue" application and/or widget that has issues with the device.

Try that one.

[Q] Couple of questions

Hey everyone
Have my white s3 about a week and have one or two questions.
My first one is in the camera app I turn the phone on its side and is it just me or do I loose nearly a half inch either side of my screen with black borders?
But if you switch to video it widens to the full phone screen..
Also is it just my phone or has anyone noticed that the back button doesn't close apps?? It will go back to the home screen but doesn't close the app.
I haven't rooted... Should I??
Thanks
if you go in to setting scroll to bottom and go in developer options there is a highlighted section there to end all processes so none run in the back ground. as for rooting i have cos i like to mess with things its entirely up to you once rooted warranty is void so i know some are waiting just incase
I do not believe you lose actual picture width, even if the viewfinder is shrunken.
Why do you want programs to get closed? They reload faster when they stay in the RAM, and the browser, for example, remembers what page you were on.
Android is decent at clearing RAM when needed (except when its the homescreen), but you can get Advanced Task Killer from Play Store if you want to manualy close programs. But this will ofter use more battery because loading a program from scratch uses more CPU than fetching the same program from the RAM.
Also if you must use a task killer (you don't have to), make sure it is not automatically closing things.
Thanks for the replys.. It's just something that I noticed on the s3
I thought my galaxy nexus **** them down when pressing back.
The pictures are my main concern.
When I view them in the gallery I have black border on the left and right, I'm not geting full screen.. Has anyone noticed this?
Yeah, I got that too. Maybe its a mismatch between the resolution of the pictures and that of the S3. The camera resolution can be changed, and you can zoom in on your pictures with pinch. Full screening all pictures would lead to distorted pictures.
Its just weird I feel like it wasnt like that when i first got it.. I think I would of noticed. I thought I changed something in the settings.
Why is it when you switch to video it changes to the full screen and the buttons you can press are see through.
But on the camera your loosing nearly a half inch each side of your screen.
Doesn't make sense to me.

[Q] Screen/Software Issue S3 - Need People To Test PLEASE!

Hi Everyone,
So I have noticed with my new S3 that when I do certain things my screen colours are change. For instance if I am watching a movie using there new picture on the home screen thing and then I set it back to full screen and rotate the screen and then put it back on the home screen the text in my text messages is all screwed up and has a white border around all the text. As soon as I close the video this issue resolves it self.
Would this be a hardware or software issue and can any of you please try this for your self.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Can some of you S3 owners please do the following.
1: Load up a video with the default player.
2: Use the picture and picture feature.
3: Then return the video to full screen by tapping on the small video.
4: Then rotate the screen with the video playing to full screen.
5: Then return the video to the PnP mode and load up your text messages.
You should see your text has a white haze around all of the text.
Can someone please confirm.

Your phone comes with an LCD test menu. You could use that to check for any issues on that front.
Following instructions from The SGS3 Indian FAQ and Discussion Thread could help you out. Thanks to Bala_gamer
* Enter the dialer and input the following code "*#0*#, it will give you a set of options to test the mobile.
* The same lcd test menu can be used for testing the tint issues, the main menu of the lcd test should look white rather than pinkish white or warmer white. you can either decide it yourself by your eyes or compare it with another AMOLED screen.
* Black dots are present on almost all AMOLED panels with varying intensity. Its not an issue. But if you still want to check for lesser dots take your mobile to pitch dark environment and load a complete black wallpaper, once your eyes get setlled to the environment look over the scrren. you will notice those spots.
I hope this tells you where the problem is. Lemme know if it works.
Hi,
Thanks for the information I tried it and everything looks good. I went down to my local Optus dealer today and I could replicate the same issues with the pebble blue handset they had on display. It seems to me it's a software issue.

Well, what do you know. You were right!..Never would've even thought of that, come to tell you the truth. I'm afraid I'm completely out of my depth here. I've faced the same issue. Try posting the question in the forum I posted in my previous reply. The admin should be able to figure it out. I'll second your post.

Wallpaper problem

I think this is a bug – but it may be a stupid question on my part. Apologies if so. I'm primarily an iOS user on mobile, and the Gemini (which I'm loving so far…) is my first serious experience of Android.
OK, so I was playing with customisation options for my home screen, and although I actually really like the default dark blue starfield background that comes preset on the machine, I decided to swap it for an 'early morning sky' photo that I typically use on all my mobile devices. (It's a photo I took myself years ago, and works really well as a backdrop.)
After touching 'Set wallpaper', I elected to set my new background for both home screen AND lock screen. Fine; that worked OK and looks good. But I subsequently changed my mind and wished I'd stuck with the standard starfield for the lock screen. So I went back to the wallpaper options to change the lock screen only.
At this point I discovered the problem/bug. The thumbnail of the starfield picture is still there to be selected, and if I touch it, it covers the screen like it did before, so everything appears OK. However, when I click on 'Set wallpaper' and choose the option, regardless of what I choose (home screen, lock screen or both), there's a pause and then the starfield vanishes, leaving me with a completely black background. I can set the background image to any new photo that I supply myself without problems, but any attempt to reapply the original starfield graphic fails, which is rather a shame.
Can anyone tell me where I can locate the starfield graphic on the system? I've tried browsing the file system (with hidden files visible) but haven't found it. Or can anyone perhaps supply the file so that I can copy it back to the device if perhaps it only now exists in a cache or some such problem? I'd really like to get the image back.
Thank for any help.

Can confirm I have the same issue after re-flashing with the latest stock Android. Explains why I've still got a black screen!
+1 , same thing seen (or not seen if you prefer lol)

I believe this is a bug. I got around this by a long winded method. I selected the "star field" thumbnail so it covers the screen. At this point I took a screen shot by pressing Fn + R and then you can go to your gallery app, select the screen shot image, crop anything you don't want such as the bar at the top and then set the edited screen shot as your background. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a good workaround.

My Picture are showing Gray with a white explanation mark

Notice others are having this issues since the latest update.
- I take a picture on my phone, turns out great, then I go to access it later, and more than half the picture has a grey block over it! I don't have a photo editor installed and I'm not cropping the pics. But it keeps happening.
The few that show up in my album, once I click on it to expand it turn gray with white explanation mark like the others.
Is this a defect ? I saw on other forum that people have this issue. My issue just started and I have had my phone for over 1 year with no problems unitl now
Any help would be appreciated, as I've lost a couple of photos that I'd like to get back!
one question, all pictures turn into gray or just a part? seems it might be the problem of your memory.
