[Q] AZERTY to QWERTY? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The story:
I just got a HD2 today, and to be honest I'm pissed.. I've been ripped off big time, the phone has a cracked screen(it said the description, but I expected something smaller), it has been taken apart and put back poorly(windows key isn't backlit anymore). Also, the LCD has 3 big white circles and the touchscreen sometimes doesn't work. Not to mention that the USB connection doesn't work(USB device not recognized), No usb modes work. Sorry about that but I had to write it, I have to let the angryness come out some way.. I demanded a refund, and he better give it to me.
OK, now about my question:
The phone has a french rom(original, not updated) and it's AZERTY keyboard. Since USB doesn't work and I can't flash updated rom without HSPL, I'm stuck with this ROM and without Android(2.04 radio (( ).
How do I change the keyboard to qwerty, in keyboard settings, there's no option to change the layout, just auto-correct and other things, but no layout option.
And I can transfer files to it, I have an X1 and I can use that to transfer files to the SD card...

Since the phone is knackered and you're demanding a refund anyway (and quite right too!!), why does it matter?
Pay a bit more and get a good condition one. If you have issues with a working phone then we can help you.

I don't think it matters if it's good or not, that's more of a software thing. Is there any cab or something to change the keyboard?

But you're returning it as damaged, so what do you care?
Seriously, from your description I wouldn't even bother turning that thing on!
A quick search (using the search) found this...

It's the opposite to what you're asking for, but it should point you in the right direction.

WM6 Problems

Having read a lot of posts... both potentially apropos and perhaps diverse... from this August company of Ameo sages and mages, I have been moved to write to you to ask if there is something you can advise with respect to WM6 on our Ameo.
We have two such similar devices, both in T-Moble livery... with the nice leather book binding and the peculiarly useful pen pointer.
One arrived well-used with HTC Windoze mobile 2.21.405.2 on it, and the accompanying larger sized HTC home module, apparently of that period.
The other arrived practically new and boxed, with Windoze Mobile 2.35.110.4 on it, and the HTC Home characteristically implemented in the task bar area.
Being housebound disabled, the Tom Tom which came with it is virtually useles to me as well... so if anyone is desperately seeking one then we might arrange something.
The new unit came in and came up from cold. Not having a method whereby you can stop the branding process, as we do on our XDAIIs units, we were forced to permit that to continue... which was our first surprise. However that seems to bring in some benefits... in the shape of Opera and Tru-Flo... as well as a bit of T-Mobile dross too.
The HTC unit functions pretty well as far as I can see, and takes more or less everything you can give it to try. And it also starts on keyboard contact too.
The T-Mobile does not, and also needs to be re-set fairly often.
Too often for my money.
The HTC unit is unlocked as far as I know. The T-Mobile is awaiting a Pay-As-You-Go Card from me, and the use of the unlock code, which was obtained for us by the person who sold it to us.
The real tell for us (as mere users rather than mavens) was oddly enough, not with a performance tool kit or with any kind of enhancer, but with Hidden Expedition Titanic... of all things.
It works fine on HTC, but appears to glitch on the sound on the T-Mobile, and then hangs. Other similar softwares appear to do the same immediately after install, and then sometimes seem to operate as they should after a re-set. Astraware Solitaire WE and Robo, to name but two.
Going on from there, we got hold of Syberia. As big a test as you might want for this type of device I thought. That works pretty well again on the HTC, but inexplicably stalls on the T-Mobile far too frequently... necessitating a re-set. It is my impression that it does so if run from a previously closed session involving more or less any other task or purpose but can sometimes function adequately from a warm boot. (There are occasions with this unit when I'd like to implement the old MSDOS computer users saw... and give it a warm boot... AND also a HOT Wellie.)
Again, it is only my impression, but it seems that if I run Pocket Mechanic Ram Reclaimer on this unit, and then run Syberia, we seem to get a longer run without a freeze... sometimes to where I have to close in the normal course of events.
The same sort of thing... system hangs... happens now I have tried it... in Word. Especially when using Transcriber.
I have to say that I had perhaps unreasonably high hopes of that, having had a Toshiba Portege Tablet for a while now also, and having been quite surprised at how good the Tablet version of Windoze is at handwriting recognition on that. Most unlike Microshaft...
Then I thought that problems we had (and still do occasionally, albeit not requiring a re-set however) with the Tosh might be similar on the Ameo.
On the Tosh, as it arrived, we found the startup to be inundated with little Toshiba software modules... many of which were uneccessary. We improved boot times no end by taking a lot of them out... although live processing sometimes still has slow periods.
Notwithstanding however I tried to look at the Ameo in the same way.
In the startup there are around a half dozen files, aside from the obvious... Magic Button and X-Scalar that are there due to my efforts. And there seems to be little or no information as to what these are, or what they actually do... or more importantly... if they can be safely left out.
I've no doubt, from my reading here, that a simple answer from you all would be to install the unlocker and the forthcoming cooked ROM.
End of problem... perhaps.
However I tend to be a little more conservative (or timid perhaps?) with this concept... also noting those poor folks who have "bricked" their units too.
We have had excellent service from our XDAIIs units over the years, and they have been good companions when we needed them, as well as just phones. They are still operating with WM2002SE and still most software that I "find" seems to work on them... including the Ameo-Glitching Hidden Expedition Titanic I might add.
This week the chap next-door-but-one also got an Ameo... having seen ours and liked it.
His came out of the box with WM5 on it... possibly old stock?
However it set me thinking again and this has finally moved me to ask the assembled wise old Ameo-ers... if perhaps we would be as well reverting our new Ameo to WM5 too... for the time being at least... or if we might be better employed seeking something like the HTC version on our HTC unit?
Or perhaps some other solution presents itself to you from my description?
I'd like to get the new unit starting from keyboard connect also, if anyone has the fix.
The HTC unit came with a restore CD with WM5 on it... and not the HTC version which is presently installed on it's ROM. So I cannot just mirror it to the new unit.
There must be a concensus surely?
The units are manufactured similarly, by the same processes, and using basically the same internals.
We need a windoze version for these which settles down and does what it is supposed to with most of the software that is available.
At the present moment I have "ancient-egyptian" XDAIIs, which seriously outperform at least one new Ameo... in most respects... and that can't be right.

Hi
I feel you have lots of time to write on here. therefore you must have time to read about these threads before you try to mirror anything. If you do not understand fully you may brick your ameo.
To unlock the CID: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315831
Read the above thread fully
upgrade the radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372904&highlight=radio
Upgrade to AP3 DUAL Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=346221
Both of your devices need to be unlocked if you want to upgrade another rom other than original ones. If you do not understand clearly please do not do any changes and read everything about athena.
Good luck
Microshaft Windoze,that's great.

keyboard layout not correct

hi, i just flashed my o2 xda mini s to the jaguar wm6 rom (fantastic btw) and now all the symbols on my keyboard are snafu'di.e when i press shift a i get ~ shift s i get !, and the * has gone awol totally!
any clues anyone? thinking i may need some sort of fix.
also is there anyway to get to the back of the keyboard with out the total dismantle job?? i think i got a stuck up key on my keyboard, cuz, it doesnt work when i jab it and every so often the unit will go into up scroll overdrive, and i gotta either jab the down key on the touch wheel, or belt the unit of something (yes, yes i know, not good)
muchos appreciated for any clues to either of these!!
The reason that your keys are wrong, is that the Jaguar ROM may be for a different localization....IE, Europe, Japan, Phillipines whereever, and for whatever reason, the Wizard keyboards in other areas have the symbols moved around on the beyboard. What you need to do, is find you a keymap settings.txt for the en-us keyboard, and then copy it into your Windows directory on your phone and it will fix that problem. Whether or not one of those exists for the Wizard I dont know, I know this fix from my days in the Excalibur forums though, because we had the same problem with the 6.1 ROMs from Asia. You may have to flash to a US ROM if we dont have a keymap.txt floating around somewhere. As to your second problem with the stuck key, I beleive that you will have to open your Wizard to fix that....unless it didnt do it before you flashed to the Jaguar ROM, then I would say that its the ROMs fault. I hope that helps out!
many thanks for the speedy reply! after a bit of hunting around, i came across this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317240 and it told me how to change the reg setting for the keyboard locale. one soft reset later, and i can type what i see again!!!
as for the sticky key, i stripped the phone as per the service manual, gave it all a bit of a wipe, checked for loose stuff, etc, stuck it all back together, and it seems to be a lot better, only going ape every so often now!! will probably invest in a new casing and see if that does the trick, as this ones all battered anyways. should of seen the partners face when he walked in and the phone is all spread out on the bed the same face incidently whenever the ps2s in bits!!
heh, glad I could be of service!

USB Adaptor Fail. Soft Keyboard inaccesible

So while I am waiting (and waiting, and waiting, LOL) for my Keyboard Dock, i remembered that I bought the USB adapter for the TF101 (fits into the proprietary charging/dock connector port, provides 1 USB port)
A soon as i attached it, I put a USB Mouse receiver/transmitter and it worked really well. The mouse tracked MUCH better than it even did on the TF101.
Until I went to the browser, and went to type a URL. The onscreen keyboard wouldn't come up (none of them, I have the two stock, plus Swiftkey X Tablet)
Stranger still I see the keyboard icon in the taskbar, and suddenly it hit me! The goofy thing thinks that the dock is attached! Sure enough as soon as I pulled the adpater out, the freaking keyboard popped right up.
None of this is going to cause any major issues, as I have a dock arriving tomorrow (I hope), but it's just another one of those overlooked items, and one that is SURE to get just about NO attention, LOL!
While I appreciate Asus wanting to get the flagship Tablet out there, and get ICS on it (has to be the #1 directive in tablet development at Asus at the moment, Asus needs to do a LOT more testing.
Also, and I have said this before, Asus needs to a) Try and get workable GPS functionality since it was they who put it in the tablet and b) Asus needs to repair the hardware on whatever percentage of tablets that get NO GPS signal at all. There is obviously a software component, since quite a few folks had, then lost SOME GPS function, but I have never had any, and I want it. Even if it is sub par, and works marginally, they advertised the spec, I wanted it, I bought it, I don't have it. End of story, as far as I am concerned.
Nobody has GPS working. Some may say they do but they do not know what they are talking about.
Also since the latest update, wifi location gets turned on automatically when a GPS app is trying to get a location.
Pretty much sweeping it under the carpet, it may work on those that don't know any better but for those that do know the difference it a pretty pathetic attempt.

Dude, Jen, seriously you are such a tool. Most everybody's GPS works. It is just not working well enough to navigate (which I agree is unacceptable). He is saying his won't see a single satellite in any condition. That is not working by definition. You insist on stating things as if they are fact when they may only apply to you. I can cold boot in airplane mode with nothing switching on my wifi and lock satellites in a windowless room in my house. I cannot however navigate. Those things are facts. If I were to continuously post that 'everyone can lock satellites with their prime and those who say they can't are just too stupid to know it' I'm guessing you would get annoyed at some point right? So please, if you have nothing constructive to say or you are too dense to know that just because something is happening to you doesn't necessarily mean it's happening exactly the same way to the whole community, then stfu. Please and thank you.

HD2 Intermittant Issue...

Hi, I have a couple of HD2's ready for use within the business I work for.
These HD2's were purchased as replacements for older HD2's that had been used and were getting tempramental and old.
I have recieved the new HD2's and heres my problem:
The touch screen seems to decide when, and IF it works. The first time I EVER got it out of the box, unwrapped it etc the touch didn't work.
After a couple of restarts the touch works, then after a bit it will then decide not to work.
This happens constantly, it will work, then wont work, then work, then wont work.
When it works it is fine, just like the HD2 should be, it just seems to be like a moody teenager who decides when and if it want's to work.
Any one know what could cause this? Why it is happening and why it works and then doesn't?
Thanks !
the touch has always been a weak point of this phone, and your issue doesn't sound all that uncommon.
if they still have older version, rom then you should certainly update that.
if there's any warranty you should definitely go that route immediately,, because you almost certainly aren't gonna fix it.
Hi mate
Yes I have updated the ROM's which went from 1.4 (ish) to the current ROM listed on the HTC website. That seemed to fix it, but then I realised the phone was in a good mood, and 10 minutes later it started its hissy fit again.
And about warranty I don't know as I didn't buy them, we may have to attempt to send them back but thats gonna take weeks, as it took weeks for them to arrive. And we need them out and about tbh.
Do you have any idea what the cause is?
Hardware/Software?
Thanks !
sorry no clue why, and I'd say it's most likely hardware,,, a failing digitizer by the sound.
Sounds like the common digitizer issue, just had same with my personal TMOUS HD2.
Our local supplier said he had units 100% new but old that had failed in the box, reckons digi ribbon bonding to digi is bad on both solder & socket types.
From 20+ HD2 handsets we have running in our company I would conclude similar myself.
My personal handset has had extremely light & sympathetic use & hardly minimal use of end key but it still failed.
Hardware durability of digi/micro USB port & mainboard thermal control/BGA solder quality is very poor to be polite ...

S9+ Non Functioning Screen Data Recover

Aloha Everyone!
My S9+ screen has broken yet I can tell it's still functioning as my alarms keep going off etc and when I plug into my PC it registers the phone and should be authorized on this pc.
However since I can't use the screen I can't change the debug settings or put it into "file transfer mode".
I see Dr Fone, Droidkit, Phone Rescue etc. but they all seem suspect and suspiciously all want 35$. I don't mind paying if they work however they all seem to require I put it into debugging which once again I can't do with my broken screen.
Is there any open source solution to this? I would like the pictures on the internal SD of course but I need a recording I made with voice record for a meeting I have tonight. This is my priority and I am currently at work and don't have the time to scour forums and all the regular things I would do.
Any help is appreciated! I don't think this post is breaking any rules and if it is I'm sorry. The S9+ mention is specific but only because I need to explain the generation of the phone as it's older.
I know this is an old phone and I pray someone sees this, infinite mahalos for any suggestions or replies in advance!
You Rock!
Is your screen responsive to touch (Even if you can’t see what you are touching)?
I saw you said broken, do you mean physically? Can you see anything on the screen?
Could you use scrcpy?
It has a few small cracks that water got into and fried the screen I believe.
My alarms going off at the proper times, if I touch the buttons it will vibrate in the ways it should etc.
It doesn't seem to be responding to touch however and it is black as in off, no color or light.
I am looking into scrcpy! Thanks, if anyone has any other suggestions that would be much appreciated!
Spcry won't work because I am not in debug mode, or rather never authorized it while I had it unlike all my previous phones. I got bored of homebrew apps and didn't bother doing it on this one.
Not sure there is anything you can do. No PC programs can control, no Bluetooth mice, no nothing.
Damn, you would think there would be a program at this point to bypass everything and grab your files.
Thanks for your help everyone!
If there was, I would be patched right away, and whoever reported it would get thousands of dollars for the report.
im pretty sure you can use a usb c hub with hdmi and usb to plug in a mouse and your phone to a tv
This is late, but questions do NOT belong in the Development section. Also, this post is for a S9+, not an S9.
