BBM on Andorid! - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen some videos on youtube shown that iPhone users are able to use BBM on their handset. so is it possible to do the same for our androids?

I've looked for an app equvilant of bbm with no luck
Whatsapp and pingchat are 2 that bb users can use but its not free.

Tell your friends to install Google talk or some other cross platform messenger. I never used BBM on my bb storm, despite it supposedly being a big selling point of blackberries, as no one I particularly wanted to chat with had a blackberry and it really annoyed me that it sat there unable to be removed using a huge 5mb of the paltry 128mb of memory that was also required for the OS and apps. Grr. Sorry about the rant, had to get that off my chest ;-)
Anyway, cross-platform FTW!

I know that, currently i use cross platform apps, like gtalk, pingchat, whatsapp, with my friends
But today i saw couple of videos in YouTube that iPhone users can run bbm on their iPhone!

KiK Messenger
its cross platform (iphone, bb, android), and FREE, need i say more?

why would you want to install BB on your phone when you already have cross platform apps? it's just too redundant and won't serve any purpose anymore imo

None of these have group chat yet, though whatsapp says its coming soon.
BBM is way better atm, but cross messenger apps are slowly catching up. Kik is my favorite right now, because if its speed.

Gmail and face time?

Can we not use gmail video chat to do face time?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
are you talking facetime as in apple? I think they only allow face time with other apple users
Well. You know how Google has a webcam video chat on gmail via webcam/laptop. Thunderbolt has front facing video camera. why couldn't we use gmail video chat on thunderbolt to talk to people on PC or laptop. Sorry if it is a dumb question.

Hmmmm... I wonder if the Honeycomb GTalk app would enable video chat... I'll try to decompile and fix for 2.2. First I need the apk...any links?

i have a xoom at work that we are testing, I will try to pull the .apk from google talk via titanium backup tomorrow since I have not rooted that device.
I was video chatting on my Xoom to my girlfriend the other night. I forget if it was the in the Talk app or not, pretty sure.
As far as "FaceTime", you can video chat with people using Tango and Yahoo Messenger for now, and Skype (with video calling) is coming soon.

I have definitely used video chat on my Xoom from the Talk app.
Let Google Know
I found a thread asking Google to please get video chat rolling here in the Google support forums.
Yeah I don't know if the Honeycomb GTalk app would just work on Froyo considering that GTalk is apparently heavily baked into a lot of Android features. But this would be an amazing feature. Maybe more people would finally start using GTalk too since it's hard to get my friends to kick their SMS addiction.

Arel wars

Hey guys, so this awesome game was recently released on Android. Strangely, on the market it shows to be incompatible with our device whereas.in truth it works well.
Now, here's a problem many have faced - one NEEDS an internet connection to even play the game, whereas the iPhone version doesn't! What's more we don't have the 1000 cash bonus when we first play the game, that iPhone users actually do receive. Is there a way someone could mod the apk?
Oh btw it's not warez, it's a free app xD

Fyi there's a offline version out there but still needs internet connection for some reason

Push in non-official Twitter apps

As an iOS ex-user, I miss lots of apps that I used in iOS. One of the most important of them is Tweetbot.
I've been searching for a great Tweetbot replacement and the only tolerable ones that I found are Plume, Boid and TweetDeck. But I am being forced to use the terrible official client because of the push notifications. Those clients have some sort of "placebo" push, which is slower and is less battery-efficient.
So, there's my question: can I use another app to push Twitter mentions to my device? Personally, I've got 2 ideas: an app like Boxcar (available for iOS, developers say that they are working on an Android app, but it feels abandoned) or some way to redirect official Twitter's notifications to Plume when I tap on them on Notification Center.
Thanks!

Do you get you tweets via text? If so you should try the app tweetification in the Play Store

[Q] universal video chat app?

I don't expect this to already exist and I suspect there are a lot of challenges to this such as api availability and so on... But what is the likeliness of a universal video chat app such as trillian for instant messaging?
I have Skype, qik, oovoo, talk, and at one point yahoo. I don't really use any of them but I feel like I would if they were all merged together so I wouldn't have to open each app to see if someone is available. What challenges would there be developing this?
And of this belongs in apps and themes, please move.

Android General Question

Hi, I'd like if someone can explain to me why android apps never open Web links within the app instead of always redirecting you to the browser like iOS and I never noticed this before but I'm currently using an iPhone along side my Galaxy S3 since I'm in the Caribbean and I just think the iOS way makes more sense especially for apps like cracked and Facebook.... Thoughts?

Because the android apps in question do not have a web browser within them, at least not in the sense of a traditional browser. I can't attest to how iOS works as I have too many qualms with apple to use their products, but I would assume many of their apps also launch a browser for web content, and if they don't its due to integration of a browser within the app.

Hey sorry I'm just noticing the reply and all I'm looking for is a discussion of some sort but a bit of an update I just used the CNN app on my Galaxy and it as in opened links pertaining to the app within itself such as unlocking the live TV and I just think more android apps should do it and also you might be familiar with flip board and how not handles links that's what I mean
